This is one of my favorites. It very easily converts pdf's to ppt's, doing every one I've ever thrown at it (in last version). It's pretty good for pdf's to word too, although there are plenty of others, and some better, but not for free. But, I haven't seen anything that converts the range (ppt, word, excel) in one solution. If anyone has one to recommend, I'm interested in trying that out.

I decided to try this app since I'm having such trouble converting pdfs online and with the softwares I've used since I can't afford Adobe Acrobat Professional (had license on my mac version but now I'm on a PC so it's of no use) but this doesn't work either. Nothing seems to allow an actual editable Word document when converted from pdf without paying. This is the message I received: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6Z5LJchEOmhVkwxMnBmSVQ5VzA/view?usp=sharing

This is just a converter (for about $60), but the documents are still in non-editing mode. For this amt of money, I would rather have something that would be able to convert and be edited.

Installed on Windows 7 64 bit just fine. First file I tried was a 1 page pdf - with data on it - which I tried to convert to Word. I got a box saying the software won't convert "scanned" pdf files (99% of the ones I use are scanned) BUT if you pay and get the PRO version, it has OCR software which will convert. This effectively makes this "giveaway" crippleware (at best) for my purposes and I don't need it bad enough to pay at this time. Will be uninstalled after reboot (thanks Karl! :) )!

Re. password protected files.

Right from the wondershare Home Page:

Convert Password-Protected PDF Files

Not able to copy, edit, or print an encrypted PDF file? PDF Converter allows you to convert it to a different type of file in order to make full use of it. If the file is protected from being opened, you’ll need to enter that password before converting it to another document type.

Like Edu says.....ya gotta know the Password in order to remove it or to open and edit the file with Wondershi*.

I got this the last time they offered it. Last March I received an email invoice (.pdf) from a business that i was to pay, but it was corrupted and unreadable. An associate also received the invoice and couldn't read it, either. He tried some of his .pdf reading software (Adobe, I believe) and I tried it on my Ubuntu reader, then on Nitro, but no dice. Then I used Wondershare and it popped up perfectly. It was the only time I have ever used this freebie, but it saved the day. I'm recommending it to friends.

Dual-boot here - slept in & in a bit of a rush - program started in Win10 Build 10130 - but that is the extent of the "good" news. Tried 4 pdf files & only 1 was readable, but, even in that one - the format was so bad it added pages between paragraphs (and I an using Windows Word 2010) sry Wondershare, wish I had better results, but thanks for today's program - it might work for removing 'quotes' from pdf's - we'll see. Thanks GOTD - c u tomorrow - HAGD

I have a free time limited (6 months) license for Abby Transformer+ 12. It is the tool you want if you're into converting PDFs every day, for work or fun. One of the best OCR engine. Normal price is $69, much cheaper than "Wondershare PDF Converter Pro". But there is a free trial for casual use, and a free version. Beware, installed size is 750 MB, or 474 MB in my case after deleting of unused language files. With Abby, you can also scan, create and modify PDFs.

Test: a 2 page PDF leaflet to Word. It is a 3-column layout, with 1 photo on the 1st page, some drawings (icons...) and colored text over colored background. Not a scanned document, it was created with Adobe InDesign CC 2014 using Adobe PDF Library 11.0. Not a very complex document, and one that, presumably, can easily be converted.

Abby resulted in a .DOC, Wondershare (this GOTD, not registered) in a .DOCX. Surprisingly, the photo is partially rendered in Abby. Abby did a poor job with the icons: they all disappeared. Page 1 is much more scrambled with Wondershare, very little work to do with Abby. Now, page 2. Abby is Ok, with the exception of the icons. Wondershare couldn't create anything usable, the page is almost empty.

I know nothing's perfect but Wondershare really did a very poor job. You will need another ---if not many--- software if you like converting to Word. Anyway, you will always be disappointed by the results.

I am always amazed at just how many thumbs down, people give the majority
of GOTD's. Surly many of them are just doing so because the do not need or
want the software on offer and i am almost certain that they do not download
the item and try it out to give a valued response.

We are very lucky to see that others will take the time to write a response
and at least give us a valued reason why the giveaway is good or bad. If i
do not need or want the giveaway, i will not give it a thumbs down. But if
i do download the software, then and only then will i give that thumbs up
or down.

Thanks you to those that write here about their good or bad points about
each giveaway. It always helps me to decide to either download or not.

I've stated this before in response to similar posts. I think the reason behind the rating is very unclear. It simply says "Rate It!" Rate it for what, exactly? Rate it because you don't like the offer? Because you can't get it to work? Perhaps this area on the rate section should be explained better. This would also give GOTD a more accurate tally on the Nays and Yays, too. :D

Even though I realize it was a typo, with a couple of commas, it could be a more apt description.

"Surly, many of them are, just doing so because the do not need or
want the software..." :-)

Downloaded and installed ok Windows 7. But when I tried to convert an encrypted PDF, I was asked for the password. I thought one part of the program was to remove the encryption as in the quoted bit "It also gives you the ability to convert encrypted PDF files, protected from copying, editing or printing."
While on the Wondershare site, I noticed the 'remove PDF password in a second' program so downloaded the trial version. I tried the same encrypted PDF file and seveal others, I was told I needed the password to remove the password!

Reply   |   Comment by Doug  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+5)

A Password remover is not a software that shows the password of a certain file. It is a software that turns this file into a non-password protected file, so you don't have to enter the password everytime you open the file. It removes the password, but you have to know the password.

Shalom Hebrew users,

For those who are looking for a software to convert from Hebrew PDF to editable text: There are very few progs around which supposedly can do this well, and they are not available for free. But even the paid ones, I doubt they're worth the money.
One converter used to sit on my computer after it was linked to by some visitor a long time ago here on GAOTD. It may still be somewhere on here, but I never use it. I even forget what its name is and cannot find it just now. I may have uninstalled it. I believe it was using the abbyy machine for conversion, but I may be wrong with that.
I installed it when I needed to copy lots of Hebrew text with Nikkud (Vowel Points) for work, digitizing texts from rare Hebrew and Aramaic translations of the New Testament, for online use. However, as soon as there was Nikkud in the Hebrew, the conversion got always messed up. In the end I found myself typing all from scratch which seemed to be quicker than editing the messed up results from the software conversion.
Behatslaha! Let us know if you find something usable!

Hi kobi. You can try an online solution. There's quite a bit of them to find with a simple Google search. I don't know, if you can use this one : http://www.i2ocr.com/free-online-hebrew-ocr

It seems like, it isn't very popular to ask for anything in Hebrew. How comes - anyway, Shalom....and אל תשכח הגזענים מטורף

Thanks for today's offer. However, I only need this program, if it handles Hebrew, and there's no where, I can find the supported languages, and it seems like, some developers are a bit more service minded than others, when it comes to answering relevant questions.

I'll pass, thank you.

Without OCR? It's 19.2 MB only and they don't mention any OCR for this restricted version (no free tesseract engine e.g.). I looked up the size of outdated Abbyy Finereader 5 (139,204,786 bytes), Abbyy_Finereader_6_sprint (66,367,986 bytes) and a 2013-year Wondershare PDF Converter (88,977,944).

Abbyy Finereader5 still for free (corrected link!):
You remember my formerly cited (outdated but still useful)
https://forum.raymond.cc/threads/abbyy-finereader-5-0-pro-for-free.35458/
with registration and download links:
http://register.avanquest.com/ABSOFT/produits/Promotion/enregistrement_presse/VNU/FineReader0906/avq_fr_cov.cfm?CFID=5089403&CFTOKEN=14305582
and broken download link (corrected here by me) now is
ftp://ftp2.avanquest.com/bluesquad/FR/FineReader/Abbyy%20Finereader5.exe

Both links checked today being online (presumably for advertising reasons) but I won't reregister and redownload just for the fun of it, having a very limited connection.

I hope that next Wondershare GOTD will be less restricted, same as was in past times. Best wishes to Wondershare in China and GOTD. And many thanks!

Installed and registered without problems on a Win 8.1.3 Pro 64 bit system. A not so clean install with an additional Wondershare helper.

A Chinese company with address and phone, digitally signed as Shenzen Wondershare Information...

Hmmm, which software is this? How to be polite??? Well, thze company claims, this is the $79.95 version, but the registration says, that the OCR, which is part of the $79.95 "Pro"version is missing:
http://i.imgur.com/ssSj9AE.png

http://i.imgur.com/TPNK8cr.png

The "PDF converter has another price tag:
http://i.imgur.com/ZWBHzEm.png

Okay... after start a small not resizable interface opens, you add your PDF, choose an output format,a path and convert.

The result is... hmm, how to be polite, a little confusing:
http://i.imgur.com/5OzjGUB.png

But works for simple PDF files very good:
http://i.imgur.com/u45u6B5.png

The quality of the epub conversion depends of course from the same source "quality", it is a base to start to work with Sigil (for example), a simple copy and paste would be faster...
http://i.imgur.com/JLT7WBZ.png

If you don't have a simple PDF to Word converter, you can take this. Does his job with simple files, fails on complex PDF with tables and graphics.

Uninstalled via reboot, cannot compete with the good ones, except in pricetag.

I was completely baffled yesterday, that a program tries to root a Samsung device silently without any user interaction. Never thought, that this would happen. Try to get your money back... LOL

"A not so clean install with an additional Wondershare helper."

Yep, watch out for that WSHelper (or the similar ASHelper with some AiseeSoft products). They're of the "phone home" variety (?) There may be pieces of it you have to hunt around for, though it should all be deletable after the fact.

This doesn't include OCR function. The Pro Version has OCR . So Image based PDF / Scanned PDF can't be handled by this.
Excluding that issue It is really convenient PDF Converter. As it claims it can preserve all the texts, images, graphics with the original layout and format without much trouble. Though in some cases a dark dotted line or continious spot appeared over the texts .

Freeware Solution :

1. Ableword - http://www.ableword.net/ - Load any Text based Pdf and Edit directly or you can save them as doc or docx file. (http://www.ableword.net/pdftoword.html )

2. FREE PDF to WORD CONVERTER - http://www.hellopdf.com/index.php

3. Unipdf - http://unipdf.com/

Thanks, Jahid, for the link to http://www.pdfonline.com . I literally spent 3+ hours recently trying to get a pdf form to where I could edit it (fill it out) and not having Acrobat Pro, I was in some hot mess. I went with some online app that Google Docs has and that was a nightmare. It kept moving my text and hiding it behind the "pages" to then show up again after I'd retyped the info. If I'd had your link, I could have converted it to word, filled it out and saved it as a pdf to return to the person I got it from. What a time saver this site is going to be and no extra software to download. Thank you very much!

Reply   |   Comment by jbdean  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+15)

Actually, Jahid, I have to revoke my first reply. No offense to you but when I actually tried to convert the pdf file to Word I was only able to insert an image. I could not add new or edit existing text. The entire "converted doc" was just an image. :( I didn't see any way to choose a different format, it automatically converted the pdf to rtf. I had to go back to GoogleDrive and use DocHub to edit the pdf. Sorry, it really sounded like it would work but sadly it didn't do anything differently than other pdf to word applications I've tried. Once I can afford it again, I'm just going back to Adobe Acrobat Professional.
