After further practice and fiddling, there are a couple more issues I don't know how to solve:

The software seems to choose the longest track, and identify it as the "Main Movie." That would be reasonable if it really were a movie, but in the case of TV episodes, it may be only a few seconds longer than the others.

I am unable to rip more than one track at a time. If I select more than one, it rips the first one over and over until I cancel it. So the four or more episodes on a disk must be ripped individually.

I repeatedly get a problem a few minutes into the file. On playback, it stutters for a few seconds, then it jumps to catch up. This has happened, so far, on every rip. The DVDs do not do this when I play them directly.

For all the problems I've noted, which may have a solution I haven't found yet, this software still does the job I need it to do.

@#7:

Cons:
- No GPU encode support.
- Does not support multiple cores

Settings for GPU use and multiple cores are on the "Conversion" tab of the "Options" menu.

I've used WonderFox DVD Ripper 2.-something since it was a GOTD, to rip DVDs to watch on my iPhone. I've been very pleased with it. But now we have a portable widescreen DVD player, which will also take a USB stick. The player is too stupid to recognize when I have a fullscreen DVD, or fullscreen file on the USB stick, and displays it as widescreen, so everybody looks fat. I tried tweaking all WonderFox's settings to make it pillarbox the video, to no avail. Yesterday I started looking at other DVD rippers, to see if one would do it.

I checked my mail this morning, and there was WonderFox from GOTD. I downloaded and installed. The interface is not quite as pretty as the old one. The old version had several choices in "TV Video," which is what I needed to make a file which would be recognized by the player. That section is gone in this version. But I've spent much of the day ripping files with different settings, and finally found settings which make a file the player recognizes, and which displays in a pillarboxed 4:3 format. Hurray!

I like being able to change the file name before ripping the file. The old version did not allow it.

I've only found two issues so far:
- It appears not to have iPhone 3GS in the Output Profile screen. I suppose it might work to choose one of the others and tweak the settings.
- I cannot find a way to trim the file so that I can rip a portion of a movie. I'm sure that feature was available in the old version.

Terrific lifetime discount offer that was just too good to pass up. DVD Rippers need near constant refreshing to keep up with different protections schemes. So, a lifetime license for $10 is just too good to pass up. Wish more GOTD vendors gave such generous discounts.

The software installed like a charm and so far has worked perfectly.
I am software inept, but this one requires absolutely no knowledge of
how to do it - just put a disc in, and tell the software where to place
the finished avi (or whatever format). I have now purchased it ($9.99)
because I feel the publisher should be rewarded for his work.

A bit late with this info I know, but hopefully a few will get the benefit.
I too, prefer the lazy (read easy) way of life and typing some convoluted registration code to enable software to work as designed is definitely not up there among my ideas of fun.

BUT:-
If you Copy/Paste the code into notebook, for example, then copy & paste from there, it usually does the trick and thereby enable you to drink your coffee while its hot.

Installed on Win 7 64 bit 2 core 4 thread system - a breeze.
My old Acer was running at 75° plus so fans to the rescue. I converted 4 DVDs worth of TV serials in 2 hours with no hitches.
I bought a lifetime licence - been looking for this program for years!!!

I had the same problem as #13 (Roger). Have WinXP sp3, tried numerous time in different directories also using the version from the suppliers web site. Bombs at the very last step saying can't write file(“C:\Program Files\WonderFox Soft\DVD Ripper\App_date.dat”). It seems to create an additional directory.

Ok program but not very fast and it lacks a lot of video options. About as good as the free Format Factory which has better options.

Installed, thinking this was a candidate for the $9.99 sale price.

Easy interface and controls. However, the max resolution showed is 720. This is insufficient for larger screens and TV's

Uninstalled. )-8

OK, please call the dogs off! I ignored and closed the error message and opened the program. I entered the registration key and it was accepted. From there, the program ran normally. Looks good! Thanks!

I've tried twice to install in (Win7 64-bit) but each time it reaches the same point and says, "The system cannot find the file specified" and hangs. Any advice?

Conversions seem okay, but WonderPlayer (the preview function) always hangs and crashes the whole program if you try to skip ahead even a few frames.

This is not installing on XP. After repeated attempts and downloading it a second time, I keep getting this error message:

The system cannot find the file specified.

Easy to install.
Simple interface.
Very quick, 41min DVD in about 20 mins.

There are options to just extract the audio, which is great for my concert DVDs - but it's missing track break feature. I'm sure there's info on the DVD to isolate the tracks and create a new mp3 or flac for each track. Would be great if it could name the tracks too.

How is this used with an Android tablet or iPhone, which obviously has no DVD reader? Does it read the iso image of the DVD?

Installed quickly and easily on my Win7 64-bit laptop and the registration screen allowed copy and paste of the key from the ReadMe file. I had to hunt a little for the option to switch off the updates (thanks for the reminder #3) bit the user interface is clean and there are not many places to look. I tested it with a copy protected DVD, and even when the set-up was for a wireless connection to a NAS drive while I was using the laptop for other things it was commendably quick. The output file name came out as 'Untitled_Title1' which I renamed afterwards. If there is a means of choosing the output file name before starting the conversion, I haven't found it yet, and this facility (or this facility found more easily) is the only improvement I recommend. A nice, useful, well behaved product, and a keeper.

Instillation went without a hitch.
The user interface is one of the best I've seen and very responsive. Obviously a lot of thought went into it. I'm sure the same level of detail went into product "Function". I will definitely shop for products at Wonderfox in the future.

Was not able to install on Windows XP SP3 system. Made two installation attempts, but in the final stage of the installation wizard got a screen prompt: "The System cannot find the file specified" at the extraction stage of: "C:\Program Files\WonderFox Soft\DVD Ripper\App_date.dat".

Also tried 2 separate downloads of the program "WonderFox Pro DVD Ripper" from the url: http://www.videoconverterfactory.com/dvd-ripper/ and got the same error message.

Had to turn off identity protection to get the key to paste into Wonderfox DVD Ripper.

Tried to register after an easy installation and for some reason I cannot seem to do a simple copy and paste of the registration key and it will not allow me to enter the registration key manually. Anyone know why? Thanks.

I am only 60 (baby boomer) & I still like to 'read' over "guess the picture" - why don't your programmers - program a "word" menu that can be, say an option after it is setup & younger people can use it as is and old 'farts' like me can use your product the way I am used to. Don't forget - this is not something I'm likely to use EVERYday, SO, reverting to a text (pull-down Window style menu = File, Edit, View, etc.) will allow me to immediately start using the program again "WITHOUT" having to guess what the pics are for again, jus' sayin'

I don't understand what it means by zero video loss. When you convert a video from one format to another format then there's always some loss of video quality.

This software was available on another giveaway site about 1 week ago. I tested it and after a brief test uninstalled it.
Pros:
- The options to encode/rip are decent.
- Free

Cons:
- No GPU encode support.
- Does not support multiple cores (My dual core was hovering at 50%)
- The internal player is buggy. If you scroll too fast, it can lock up.

so far looks ok, but there are 2 problems

1) you can' just drag folder with your .vob files and drop it to the Ripper Pro window; you have to use their tiny archaic "select folder" control in order to find your folder with dvd files

2) you can't convert whole DVD at once (main feature and everything else) - you have to go and check every item instead

also, I am converting to MKV and I am not sure if this program will allow me to include all subtitles by default or I will have to visit each title again

Another DVD ripper giveaway! Don't get me wrong! Some computer users like this kind of stuff. But, like one of our more popular commenters state! The computer market is flooded with DVD ripper software! At one time, I had 3 types of DVD ripper software on my computer! But, I actually rarely used all 3!
Now, giveaway some type of security software that helps our computers run safely or a software that helps our computers run better! Like a computer utility software! Now there's a great computer software giveaway! Just saying!

Thanks for the offer.
Could Wonderfox staff explain what they mean by saying: "This giveaway code can only be used for trial version"? Will the application stop working after the lapse of the trial period or the application as offered here is not operable as compared to its commercial version?

For me it does not make much sense to install GAOTD software which is a trial version. If I wanted to try such softare I would get a trial version from the vendor in a time convenient for me and GAOTD service would not make sense in such situation.

The suggestion of a forum member to disable updates as a "cure" to disable control whether the trial period has lapsed, is not a viable solution. The lapse of time may be controlled by an internal clock of the computer and the application may stop working regardless of the update option being on or off.

Installed and registered on Windows7 without any problems.

I like its interface which is a balanced mixture of design and functionality. It allows you to select your source video DVD, which not only can be a standard DVD disc, but also an ISO image file or a DVD folder. You do not need to extract the whole content of your DVD, as you can specify only those titles that you want to extract.

Moreover, you can select the audio and subtitle tracks that will be included in each video file. As a value-add, the program includes a simple video editor that allows you to select among several kinds of effects to be applied to your resulting video files. You can also crop, rotate, and/or flip them.

This tool supports a wide variety of output video/audio formats, including AVI, MPEG, MP4, MKV, WMV, MOV, ASF, 3GP, WEBM, MP3, WMA, WAV, and many more. It also allows to make your video fully compatible with such portable devices as iPhone 4/4S/5/5S, iPad, iPad mini, iPod nano, iPod touch, Samsung Galaxy S II/III/IV/V, Samsung Galaxy Tab, Nokia Lumia, Sony Xperia, and many more.

I'm testing The Amazing Spider-man & Frozen right now. Perhaps it supports 99% of all encrypted DVDs, which means that there are very few commercially purchased DVDs that can't be copied using the program. It supports variable bitrates and is designed to take full advantage of multi-core CPUs.

It just works fine. I will test it in the next couple of days.
