I had the same experience as Robert. I hope to restore the older version, if possible. The new version activated just fine, but it won't rip certain DVD's that the old version did fine on, claims "new copy protection - click here to find out more". my older Cucusoft still works fine on the same DVD. I suspect Digiarty's main reason for this "upgrade" was to hobble the software in an attempt to sucker us into paying extra to un-hobble it. Rip off.

@51 it would probably be better to rename old file and not new file because online activation link might be directed to an intended INSTALL file and not to altered file!!!

@ kumar yes anytime you install a upgrade of same program rename the
old folder and shortcuts or rename the new file while installing.
that way you still have the old one you liked.

@ Robert, you should be able to do a system restore to a previous date, which would give you back version 5.8.3.
it sounds like maybe your install wasn't activated so in effect you have trial version?
I installed this and it activated all smoothly, tried ripping a tv ep to a xvid avi. this was from a dvd already on my hd and already
decrypted. after 40 min it was 25 % done and avi was already 200 mb in size. I canceled it . it would have taken 2 1/2 hours to do 1 ep and avi would have been 800 mb.
free software can do this much better and allow control of avi size {auto gk]
you cant do dvd to dvd with this you have to rip each title as a avi or mpg and then convert back to dvd so although I guess it works,it is very slow and limited in "key" areas

Thanks Dac for your comments 45 & 46. I am extremely grateful to you for your very intelligent answers. :) I'll do exactly what you say. :)

Thanks again. You are a highly intelligent person :) & I'll be delighted to read your comments whenever I visit this site

While deleting the shortcuts & subsequently renaming them I'll subsequently use version numbers also for all GOTD software henceforth
Ramesh :)

Perhaps a better idea is to install this version in a folder next to any other version you have so you can compare the two. If somebody finds I'm in error please post!

Don't install this version! I had version 5.8.3 and ripped a dvd yesterday but after updating to this version 5.9.2 the same dvd can't be ripped without paying for the upgrade. Calls it new technology protection but it was working with my older version...sneaky. Digiarty will not be getting any positive recommendations or business from me. I invite a response from whomever if they can explain this.

OK : Download of DVD Ripper platinum OK. Both programs are straightforward, easy to understand.

Negative: download of Video Converter Deluxe. Popup froze after entered key and clicked "Activate" so I never Knew if it activated properly. I could open the program but I had to terminate the process so that that frozen pop up would shut down. No mention of activation on program. Window program is not resizable.

AT 24 You can uninstalled 1st version or go into program files then Digiarty file and see file - WinX_DVD_Ripper_Platinum -- which you rename WinX_DVD_Ripper_Platinum a

When you install new version it will install into file - WinX_DVD_Ripper_Platinum

Both will work, but be sure to take out shorts cuts from all progams for 1st download and store else where! You can delete 1st version later if find new version is better!!

My initial analysis of WinX DVD Ripper was a little short, yet quick to conclusion. After using the 1:1 Copy Feature, things sped up quite a bit! It took on average 11 minutes to rip a DVD movie using the eMachines em250 Netbook and a HP dvd 555s external DVD Burner.

Keep in mind that the Intel Atom n270 supports Hyperthreading, so this program seems to utilize this by having 2 cores listed in the program settings.

So I have now come to conclusion that the conversion process to another format is far more time consuming then if you were to convert it 1 to 1.

Unfortunately I think because I actually had the trial veraion of this on my pc before, I can now only convert files upto 5 mins long (a restriction of the trial version).

I did uninstall it first. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling this Giveaway version (with a reboot in between) to no avail.

Any ideas as to how to resolve?

Great program, it is true ripping speed isn't the fastest compared to the "big names" but it's not the slowest either. The 1:1 feature is OK. I can't see any difference in quality between 1:1 and other rip methods though(avi, mp4, etc), so I always rip a version of each for every movie I rent. As for WinX HD Video Converter Deluxe, I found out about the giveaway for that a few days ago. First time I tried to rip Bourne Ultimatum Blu-Ray it crashed, rebooted my PC and then it worked fine. Took about 5 hours to rip that movie, though quality is very close to the source material.

DVD Decrypter, DVD Rebuilder, and DVD Shrink are the only three programs I have ever used for copying DVD's - and they work on every DVD I have ever run across, from ten years ago to present.
They are all Freeware, which to me is the best you can get anyway....

And, you do not have to go to the Mall or the Grocery Store while they are working, either...LOL

It would be nice if you could actually choose which MP3 codec your using or enter the xvid config settings. Not very in depth control for a video ripper. I mean, what if I want to rip my DVD's to Xvid at 800 bit rate, with 128 bit Lame MP3 audio?

@17: If you need to convert, there's nothing better than Format Factory.

@24: I'm surprised Ashraf hasn't posted this yet, but here's the dottech.org review (of version 5.1 I believe)

I had no problem installing and running this on Win7 64bit. As far as speed is concerned, it took about 7 minutes to rip a 26 minute episode of a TV show to an HD MP4. I run on a 3.0Ghz quad-core with 4GB or ram and a ton of HD space.

Someone mentioned it is listed on many torrent sites. I googled it and also found most of the listings were for torrent sites.
What was missing is any mention from any mainstream review sites of this software. I found that kind of curious.
I guess I could go back and look at previous giveaways here and read the results but I think all things considered it is better to pass.
If someone knows reviews from some of the major review sites, please mention them here.
Thank you.

The previous version hosted by GOTD on Feb 7 2010 was called WinX DVD Ripper Platinum build 20100109.

Can one install this WinX DVD Ripper Platinum 5.9.2 over the previous version or is one supposed to uninstall the previous version first?

If one has to uninstall the previous version is it better to use the built in uninstaller or is it better to use Revo Uninstaller 1.8.5?
Greatful if GOTD team &/or developer team answers bot queries.

This is a great program.Thanks.
Re #5. I found very easy to make back up of DVD pixars film "UP".
The upgrade info window pops up to advise that the DVD has a newer copy protection. If you explore the DVD VIDEO_TS folder you can locate the files you want to copy, make a note of the file number, then run DVD Platinum select the same file number, adjust output settings to your requirements, press START. Let it do its thing, Job done.
There is a don't remind me about this again tick box on the popup.
hope this helps.

Hummmm....
Installed OK.
I had already ripped a DVD to a directory, with some other software.
I Wanted to get these ripped files and convert do avi format...
This program does no offer alternatives to do that.
It only accepts files from a DVD directly...
from a path where you have the files, I could not figure out how to do it...
very sad.

Hello again,

Re. my previous comment #7:

Dowloaded and installed this new version in a seperate folder from where the older version sits. No problem! Just put itself "beside" the old one (also added "_5" to the program name to show the difference in version).

What today's giveaway introduction does not mention is that you get WinX HD Video Converter Deluxe for free on top (installs in same folder)!

AND THAT THIS FREE EXTRA IS AVAILABLE UNTIL 15/03... I suppose this offer is not linked to today's giveaway exclusively, therefore I include the url: http://www.winxdvd.com/hd-video-converter-deluxe/?drp
After the installation process as such has ended, you're provided with a registrationkey which you can copy and paste in the seperate "popup" window.

Nice to know for anyone who might be interested but who has no need for WinX DVD Ripper Platinum 5.9.2.

Greetz,
Patrick.

At the end of the installation, if you accept the default options, the installer opens a web page where you can find a free code to register also WinX HD Video Converter Deluxe. Therefore, this GOTD is in fact a double offer! Thanks Digiarty Software and GOTD! :-)

If you want to install only WinX HD Video Converter Deluxe, download it and get its code here: http://www.winxdvd.com/hd-video-converter-deluxe/
(Click on the orange button "Get it now for free".)

I don't know if this second free offer is released under the GOTD license restrictions (no update, no support...), but the key contains the word GIVEAWAY, so I suppoose so.

What kind of computer do you use? Could you at least tell me the type of processor your computer uses and how much RAM you have?

I don't know, but perhaps maybe that affects the amount of time it takes to rip the CDs.

Creates macro blocks everywhere when shrinking dimensions. Tends to pixelate too. And when the high-quality engine is used, it only uses a single core of the CPU. I'll have to recommend Handbrake instead.

Hi,

Previous giveaway was v5.1.6 on Nov.21, 2009 and repeated on Jan.15, 2010.
Some of you may be interested in Ashraf's review on http://dottech.org/gotdreviews/12404#comments of that older version for reasons of comparison perhaps, or just because that review was -as usual- worth reading.

I don't know if this newer version will overwrite the older one without any problems, so, for security's sake, I'm considering to uninstall the old one first -unless someone can assure me beyond any doubt that an overwrite/upgrade will not mess up my system.

Thanks and greetz to all.
Patrick.

Well I'm not geeky enough to comment early in the giveaway, but I will say this : a quick internet search of the software title reveals that it's a hot ticket on all the torrent sites, which suggests to me that it does what it sez and does it well. Here's the brief summary of it from one of the torrent sites :

> WinX DVD Ripper Platinum 5.9.2 Build 20100303 l 9 MB
WinX DVD Ripper Platinum - it is a super smart DVD ripper, supports all commercial DVD and could remove all the restriction. You can convert and rip your DVD to AVI, DivX, MP4, MPEG1-2, FLV, WMV, ASF video file format, iPod, iPhone, Mobile 3GP, PSP, PDA, Zune video file. Just like a grabber. Have a try.

The good: Rips encrypted DVDs. Supports the latest titles that have tough sectors etc. Handy tool for those cheap made MP4 players from overseas. (for ripping compatible video)

The Bad : Its ripping ability is much slower then AnyDVD , DVD Shrink , amongst well known programs, program options are far too many and confusing to the new user, Audio and Video Sync is poor at times.

Its an okay software. But remember this version supports decrypting and ripping of movies where as the free version of this product does not.

You may want to go mall or grocery shopping while a DVD rips because its going to be a looooooong ride........
