Tried to create a backup of my Hangover Part 2 (single mpeg2 file): It seems to only copy the Spanish audio track and I can't find a way to adjust this. The resulting .mpg is large, too - >5GB

Big deal, I am still waiting for my key! Is winexdvd a scam or is giveaway of the day a scam? I get a notice saying that the key will be e-mailed to me but days later I'm still waiting!

Installed last night. Installation was smooth. When I tried to make archival copy, I get "No source DVD. Please choose the source DVD." I click on the browse button and select the dvd drive F( on my system ). That’s when I get "No source DVD. Please choose the source DVD." This happens when choosing any of the functions to be preformed. I have the Tipard DVD Ripper and it sees the DVD rom just find. ( there are some DVDs it won’t copy. That’s why I’m installing this one, hopefully to copy those). Also I can’t close WinX DVD Copy Pro. I have to use task manager to close program.
It was getting late last night so closed down computer to reboot in the morning to see if that would help. It didn’t.
Thanks for any help.

@ #54 #76 and #81,

DVD Fab 8 was offered last February as a one-year license with some features disabled after a month but the basic copy function for a year. I have the last version of Win DVD Copy Pro and found DVD Fab to be my preferred program for several reasons, including that it will compress a dual layer to a single, but I'm assuming it's going to self destruct next month since this program went to term licenses several years ago. I have my fingers crossed that the good people at GOTD will offer it again soon. Hope someone there reads this.

I installed and registered it OK yesterday. I installed it on me E:\ drive where I install the majority of my programs. I didn't try to use it then. Today I went to use it and it is nowhere to be found. No trace of it what-so-ever.

I am really disapointed in this, creates copies that either don't work or too big to burn to a standard dvd. I am really pleased I did not purchase it.

Hrrrm. Only seems to be the one original dvd crashing it. It's a dual layer, copy protected dvd.

Investigating further.....

Started using my lovely free copy today and after doing a couple of personal backups of cr DVDs the program now crashes every time I hit the run button or try to change the name/location for the backup of dvd iso.

Very disappointed. Hopefully Digiarty will email me a fix

Tried to register - FAILED! Uninstalled and deleted all traces from hard drive and registry. Re-Installed and register FAILED! Tried at least six times. THUMBS DOWN on this one big time. Not worth the effort if you're only getting a trial version.

When mouse hover to "Clone DVD to DVD" menu,
I observe wrong spelling on Main GUI.
"Please insert a DVD Disc"
"Copy DVD to DVD Disc. Nee a black DVD Disc"

Should amend the line to
"Copy DVD to DVD Disc. Need a blank DVD Disc"

I also had trouble installing "over" previous version. Did unistall and new install several times and got message that code (apparently from previous version) was not valid. New code from email was not accepted either. I discovered that the cut/paste of code from email was including a leading space. Eliminated that and all worked fine.

To people like Laura#29 it's best to clean you computer out first. Get a copy of CCleaner, leave a donation, reboot, and run it for your current logon. Reboot.
Just for good measure check in \Users\Laura\AppData\Local\Temp and delete everything in there (skip anything that won't delete; it's current).
Computer, Disk C, Properties, Error-Checking... is a good habit, too.
HTH.

Update to #56. Movie I was trying to rip is taking forever on ISkysoft as well so it either the disc or I have a dirty head. Interesting, even though only 2% was showing before I stopped the conversion, when I went to output file I actually had a number of files already copied so counter may be off or just wasn't ticking. Wish the software would let you select choice of format rather than just mpeg2 and Tsob?? I prefer AVI for my videos as it makes it easier for playback on pc and in portable devices. Still looks like good software to have as a back up so I will keep it.

It took a long time for it to copy a DVD to a folder. Maybe it is my computer that is slow. But the 4 GB DVD is now 7 GB.
comment no 42 mentions DVDFab.I do not have speed or size of folder problem. DVDFab 8 copied form DVD to DVD with no problem but this program does not copy to another DVD. It says I need an 8GB DVD to copy a 4GB DVD.
Why do I need a 6 GB DVD if what I am copying is only 1 GB.
Does anyone know why my files are so huge?.
Anyway I think DVDFab is the best in the market.

Currently use ISkysoft for my DVD ripping needs and it works great. Every once in a while come across a DVD I can't rip so figured I would give this a try. Had downloaded WinX DVD Platinum but somehow never activated it (duh!) so fully deleted it with Revo before downloading WinX DVD Pro. Downloaded easily to Win 7 64 bit. Launched it, went to website and got my activation code. Decided to test it with new DVD to rip. Much too slow, driving me nuts. Can't get past 2%, forget it. Am going to abort this and see if I can rip it faster on ISkysoft. Then will try another DVD and see if that works any better, will let you know how I make out.

Great deal further down the activation page for the Snowman game to win free copy of the BlueRay ripper. Let's you play until you guess right and then gives you download link and activation code for the BlueRay, might limit you to 10 copies though not sure.

Today registration was very ''unusual''. I did uninstalled my previous version but still ended up with the trial version. Got the same message as # 20 that my licence code is invalid I followed the link given in the Readme file and was given the activation code on the website. The email with the code was sent as well. It still didn't work with the software downloaded here on GAOTD site, so I uninstalled it, went back to winxdvd website and downloaded the product there. This time the activation code worked.

I was really excited to get this software and really disappointed after trying to use it. You can not clone dvd to dvd because it does not shrink before attempting to burn. In my book, this makes the software useless. If you have to take the extra step of shrinking, you can use the free version of DVD Fab which is excellent software.

Installation was flawless for me. I went to the website FIRST, entered an email address that I never use, the key was in the popup so I copied it into the Windows Clipboard, ran the installer, and pasted the key in when the program started and asked for the key. Done. Did not have to open that email.

Yes it is a dang shame this program only archives/copies single layer DVD's, where as DVD Fab does.

If you had the old version, it will tell you that the key is not valid after you install this version - even if you uninstalled the old version.

Don't worry - just click thru the message and it will give you a screen to enter the new key.

It works fine after that.

This GAOTD is definitely a nice software which does its job pretty quickly and flawlessly: a must have tool for those having a large DVD collection at home.

This updated version is even better than the previous ones given away for free here in the past, because the developer has improved the ISO mounter capability, which works pretty well now, meaning you no longer need any third party software to burn ISO file to DVD as in the past.

2 HUGE THUMBS UP from me!!

That being said, there is a terrific FREE APP, no one mentioned here,
which can even outclass today's giveaway as copying speed and final output, despite being FREE!!

Don't believe me?? You are wrong dudes....LOL!!!

To copy any DVD to your HD/DVDR/PSP/iPod etc...just download this freaking awesome GEM which is incredibly FREE of charge (don't know for how long though ==> MAC version available)):

http://www.dvdfab.com/hd-decrypter.htm

Full screenshots:
http://www.softpedia.com/progScreenshots/DVDFab-HD-Decrypter-Screenshot-70895.html

Please note that this FREE TOOL is part of award-winning shareware DVDFab DVD Copy and DVDFab Blu-ray Copy, with the only differece that it's....FREE!!

It works perfectly as a free DVD/HD/Blu ray decrypter, since it can remove all the DVD protections (included AACS) and part of Blu-ray protections as well, as well as copy DVD/Blu-ray to hard drive, enabling you to either clone the full disc or just copy the main movie.

This program is always updated to support latest protection of DVD movies, so users should not have any problem to backup their DVD movies to their HD, DVDR/PSP/iPod etc...

COOL, isn't it?? And it's amazingly FREEEEEE, meaning you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Why didn't anyone mention it here yet?? Big mystery...LOL!

Anyway, a comparison between this GAOTD and DVDFab HD Decrypter would be of course very much appreciated!!

Finally, if you are eager to add chapters, menus, pics etc...to your DVD copy, as a personal final touch to your DVD copy, you can do that for FREE by using one or both of these great DVD authoring tools:

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Video/Encoders-Converter-DIVX-Related/DVD-Flick.shtml

http://www.softpedia.com/get/CD-DVD-Tools/CD-DVD-Rip-Other-Tools/Bombono-DVD.shtml

Enjoy & Prosper!!

Digiarty has consistently been one of the most generous companies, when it comes to offering worthwhile software to us for free. As we all have seen from other companies, many times what's offered for free is useless or software which no savvy consumer would spend good money for.

This am, and all the others I've got from them (free or not) actually does what it says it'll do and is well worth the retail price.

Giving away good, pricey software for free may not be what most companies do, but it's working for Digiarty (and us, too).

I've had occasion to speak on Skype and in email with some of the folks there, and found them always to be friendly and helpful. Yes, sometimes their email support queue can get a little backed up, but their web site is FULL OF tips and troubleshooting information, for those who bother to read it.

In any case, for the price of free, it's worth getting a copy and checking it out, along with some of the other freebies and discount packages available.

Oh, and yes, it will let you do a DVD9 to DVD9 exact copy with all features intact. It has a lot of other tricks up it's sleeve, too. I happen to like copying to either ISO image or VIDEO_TS folder. From there, I can use their converter software to make just about any other format imaginable or can stream the DVD to other devices on my LAN or via the Net. If you have an i(phone/pad) you can use their free AirPlayIt server to watch over the on those devices too (Android coming soon).

[Disclosure: I have been writing about tech stuff since before there even was a public Internet. In that time, I have previously reviewed and offered as a giveaway various Digiarty software. That said, these are my own opinions and no one asked me to post them, nor do I expect to receive any compensation for them. I just think this is a good company which has been very generous to give us a really useful piece of software, they actually do sell at retail price, for the price of free. 'Nuf said?]

To those having activation problems, if you copied and pasted the activation code from either the pop-up box or the email then make sure you didn't accidentally include a space at the beginning. Its very easy to make this mistake, as I did, and if you do there's no way it will work.
If you're still having problems, then write down the activation code and type it in, its a bit slower but it may save a whole lot of hassle!

Is there something that I'm missing here?... Like I've seen on a few previous comments,it is stating that my normal 4.7GB blank DVD is too small to copy to. Are you only able to direct copy DVD's that are smaller in GB size? No one seems to have answered any of the previous problems with this. Thanks.

#43: "Could use a little “help”. “?” takes you to the digiarty web site but it’s not obvious where the “Help” is."

In a nutshell, Click the 3 dots ["..."] next to the the upper address box to browse to your DVD drive with the source disc in it. Do the same for the box below it, selecting your target. Make your selections in the main window & in the column on the left. Help here: winxdvd.com/dvd-copy-pro/#Title4 -- User Guide here: http://www.winxdvd.com/help/how-to-use-dvd-copy-pro.htm

#44: These are old comments, is this a new version with new improvements ?"

This is the latest, very slightly newer version than what WinX gave away for the holidays. Unless someone accidentally goofs [happens], each newer version is improved. :)

* * *

#47: "What is the difference between WinX DVD Copy Pro 3.4.3 and WinX DVD Ripper Platinum"

Today's GOTD copies DVD files -- DVD Ripper Platinum converts them.

#53: "But my copy wants a 9G blank DVD disk to do anything.
There is no such thing.
Should I convert to MPEG-2, then use another engine to burn that to DVD?
Not exactly the 1:1 “easy copy” promised."

Single & Dual layer DVDs are very often referred to as DVD 5 & DVD 9. If you want to put a DVD on a DVD 5 blank & it won't fit, you can 1) try stripping out stuff you don't want/need, e.g. added languages, 2) try trimming the title video in Shrink or Recode, e.g. removing the end credits, 3) use Shrink or Recode to make the video file smaller, 4) try to re-encode [& substitute] the audio from 5.1 AC3 to stereo AC3, 5) re-encode the video using a lower bit rate.

* * *

#55: "Will it clone also a dual layer (DVD9 ?) DVD to another blank dual layer DVD?

For burning DL blanks I think ImgBurn is almost universally preferred, rather than using the included Starburn code. I'd suggest copy to ISO & then ImBurn to burn it. Do a bit of reading 1st though [the ImgBurn site forums etc.] so you won't be surprised or confused when it asks you to select the layer break.

@53 (rroberto): a 9GB DVD is dual-layer. You must also have a DVD drive that is capable of writing to dual-layer discs.

How can you improve upon sheer perfection? In the case of WinX DVD Copy, you can't! I've used this software since it was first offered as WinX DVD Copy Platinum and have always had success with backing up my DVDs. Today's offering is like Christmas Day again. I've updated all three of my pc's with it. I LOVE THIS! Getting it for free (again, only with a better upgrade!) really washes out the lost money on other programs that eventually became unable to decrypt anything new. I don't copy movies to share them or make knock-off copies to sell at flea-markets with pathetic ink-jet copied covers, but I DO like to save my officially licensed-fully purchased by me DVDs and CDs because the backs of them scratch too easily.

I have my own intellectual property stuff as a novelist and I have complete respect for trademark and legally protected things. People need to get paid for their hard work. Consumers on the other hand need to be able to protect what they've worked hard to buy...especially on the budgets we're all on now!!

Use this product RESPECTFULLY if you download it. It works great for me on XP Professional and Windows 7 64bit. (I hope I didn't just jinx myself there!) I applaud the authors of this software for making it and sharing it freely with us. I also give a huge HUG to GAOTD for posting it often since programs like this can be controversial if used improperly. Thanks everyone for all of your posts each day as well. I rely on them and trust your opinions and expertise!

WinX DVD Copy Pro lets you copy Video DVDs from disc -- it won't open DVD files you have on your hard drive(s). You can copy the files on a video DVD to a folder on your hard drive, to a blank DVD, or to a DVD image file [ISO]. Additionally you can select titles &/or chapters to copy, save just the audio or video, or mount a DVD ISO file in a fake or virtual drive. WinX DVD Copy Pro's main purpose is to bypass the DRM usually present on retail DVDs, which is what prevents you from just copying the same files in Windows Explorer -- more well known competition comes from SlySoft & DVDFab... basically SlySoft's AnyDVD & DVDFab's Passkey work by decrypting video DVDs [& optionally Blu-Ray] so they appear to Windows & software as if there was no DRM -- the DVDFab app OTOH includes the copy functions in WinX DVD Copy Pro, optionally adding video conversion &/or DVD authoring. [DVDFab (on GOTD almost a year ago) is a single app with several options or features that require an additional license -- you pay just for those options you need.]

Once you've got the files from a video DVD on your hard drive you can work with them further or just leave them as-is -- several home theater apps [like Windows Media Center] can work with them just fine, & not having to hassle with physical media definitely has advantages. That said, once you've gotten rid of DRM the free PgcDemux quickly strips out [demuxes] individual audio, video, & subtitle files, along with providing a text file listing the chapter times -- the free ImgBurn will both burn discs & create image files [ISOs] -- there are several free apps for mounting ISO image files -- the free DVD Shrink [or the not-free Nero Recode] let you copy your choice of chapters, audio &/or sub tracks, Plus let you trim [to for example cut off end credits] -- while the free DGIndex together with AviSynth or VFAPI let you open DVD video in a whole host of apps that otherwise can't handle a DVD's standard mpg2. As above, bypassing DRM is what makes WinX DVD Copy Pro special -- the rest is just convenience, not having to start another app.

Now mounting ISO files normally means installing/using a special driver, & WinX DVD Copy Pro is no exception. Unfortunately 1) ISO mounting drivers are a bit prone to causing problems, & 2) WinX DVD Copy Pro doesn't give you any options -- even skipping the normal install routine, running the app installs the driver if it's not already there. In testing, uninstalling WinX DVD Copy Pro did not remove their driver. I've read that win8 will include the ability to mount ISO files natively, but until then I don't know of a great, 100% trouble free solution [other than just not mounting ISOs so you don't need *Any* ISO mounting software/drivers]. WinX's driver, DigiartyVirtualCDBus.sys, accounts for most of the recorded 157 new registry entries -- otherwise the app is almost portable, with the main program folder holding ~39 MB in 41 files, 4 folders... new folders are also added to User App/Application Data & My Videos.

Finally, WinX DVD Copy Pro does work, though mileage may vary depending on the original DVD & the DRM it uses, e.g. by design some DVDs are *Broken* according to DVD specs, & I've come across some that wouldn't even play on any of our PCs or stand-alone players -- when your PC can't even read the disc properly, whether WinX DVD Copy Pro will work or not is IMHO anyone's guess. Beyond that today's GOTD is not like a video converter that may work faster or slower than something else -- how long anything takes is based on how fast your hardware can copy or move data. 'Bout all you can do is check out Media Code Speed Edit to see if you can remove the copy speed limit [if present on your DVD drive], & use a faster hard drive as a target.

I should have added that - although the DVD Shrink site doesn't say it supports anything later than Windows XP - DVD Shrink plays fine with Windows 7.

WinX DVD Copy Pro will not compress a typical commercial dual-layer dvd to fit on a standard 4.7GB disc, although it allows you selectively re-author which chapters you want to backup (i.e main movie title minus extras). If you have a burner which supports dual-layer then you probably have no need to re-author. Verbatim dual-layer discs are generally accepted as the most reliable and are rated at 8.5GB capacity.
Freeware burner http://cdburnerxp.se/download?more-options will handle dual-layer burning (but I suggest you get it from above 'more download options' link and avoid the default installation which comes with 'Open Candy' software - which many, rightly in my opinion, constitutes spyware.
If you wish to rip and compress a dual-layer dvd to fit single layer, I highly recommend you to DVD Shrink 3.2 which I have used successfully for years. It decrypts most titles, it's freeware, and you can re-author and/or compress to fit any movie on a standard 4.7GB disc.
A guid New Year frae Bonnie Scotland to one and all.

The software copied a Europe Region DVD ok to show on the computer, but the cloned disk failed to play on a Sony BluRay player - although I did have the "remove region code" and the rest properly checked. Pity. Does not seem to be anything else I could check
