Before configuring the application, if you want to change the "Private Data Location" (of the Program Data), modify it and restart the program: I lost all of my settings and data when I did not do so in that order.

@39: VueMinder can sync with your phone by using Google Calendar as a pass-through. The other computers would be able to view and modify your calendar by syncing their installations of VueMinder with the same Google Calendar. If they need to connect with their own Google account, you can configure your Google Calendar to be shared with their accounts, via the sharing settings on the Google Calendar website.

@46: Thank you for the suggestion regarding the privacy policy. I've updated it accordingly, since VueSoft doesn't collect information about your computer either.

@48: This has already been corrected in the next version (8.0.2), scheduled for release later this week. It will show the prior, current, and next months as a mini calendar at the top. I know showing a mini version of the current month isn't so useful when printing the Monthly layout, but this is a common header and used by the Week and Day layouts as well.

The Month Print has an unhelpful quirk that is identical to Outlook. The two small months printed on the Month Calendar - the first small month should be the month PRIOR to the month being printed, not the same as the month printed.

Worked right out of the box. Pretty slick. Even better than Sunbird IMO. Definitely a keeper. A ton of options for customization, too.

I have Outlook as my calendar and just got a new Palm Pixie plus phone (I have had palm devices for years and they work very nicely with Outlook). i need to be able to sync my phone to my calendar, but i would like 2 other people to at least be able see my calendar on their computers (we are networked but there's no real server), if not be able to add items to my calendar from their computers. Will this calendaring program be able to do one or both?

WinXP Sp3 installed runs without a hitch. The sign of a good program is it just works, and is easy to use and figure out without having to refer to a help file and this prog falls into that category as excellent. The auto figuring of holidays for your country, the auto figuring for sms messages to in my case hotmail are a breeze.

No one else uses my computer so I dont want password protection of the calendar , I have had calenders in the past with passwords then forgotten them . It is easier to protect your whole computer with a bios password . It is too short notice to try everything but so far I thoroughly recommend this prog and thoroughly recommend downloading. In case it does not have one or I missed it , I suggest a menu option to suggest an improvement , which then emails the author/programmer in case anyone comes up with improvements.

I downloaded the "Lite" version just last week to use as a desktop reminder program. It works great for my intended purposes. As far as the issue noted above that the calender and notes don't integrate into one place, since that sounds like too much work to me for something I'm using to simplify my life, I entered items I wanted to note as calender appointments and it does exactly what I want it to do - remind me. I'm going to definitely go for this one. Thanks Dan, VueSoft and GOTD.

Great program installed with no problems on Vista SP2. Like the different views especially the one you can see through. I run Deskscapes and the 'active' desktop usually freezes with most overlay calendars. Still trialling it but seems very flexible and more bells and whistles than I need. Thanks GAOTD a definite keeper for me.

I'm the administrator of two separate Google accounts, each with their own calendars. It doesn't look like you can do two-way sync with multiple Google accounts. Anyone know? I really like otherwise.

Incredible! I had just downloaded and evaluated the free version last night and had decided it was the best offline calendar option for me. I had planned to purchase the full version soon.

I can put a calendar on both my and my wife's desktop and sync them through Google Calendar. We both have our own calendars and can overlay them as needed. We can both see the calendars whether online or offline and they will stay in sync automatically whenever online. Perfect!

It took a little configuration to get everything just the way I wanted it but I'm very happy.

Thanks VueSoft!

I've been using the free version for about a year and it suits my purposes pretty well except I can't update it without losing all my calendar info. (It won't backup.) So I'd like to try the Pro version but wonder if I will be able to import/save my current calendar info. I certainly don't want to try to input it all again. Anyone know for sure how Pro handles data from another version?

@12: VueMinder Calendar Pro doesn't need to be renewed every year in order to continue using it. It's a one time purchase (or free if you get it today). A single user license can be installed on any number of computers where you (or a family member in the same residence) will be the only user. The paid version ($29.95 using the promo above) includes 12 months of upgrades, which can optionally be renewed. It doesn't need to be renewed separately for each installation. You can also continue using the current version without renewing, if there are no new features you want. This is described on my website, which I understand is currently having technical difficulties. I'm looking for a new host right now. I didn't anticipate the increase in traffic would be too much for my current host.

@23: The formatting shouldn't be lost if you're using the latest Lite version. If you decide to upgrade to Pro, you can backup your data first, using the Backup Data command on the File menu. If you notice the formatting is lost (it shouldn't be), use the Restore Dara command to recover it.

To everyone else - Thank you for the feedback so far. I continue to work on improving VueMinder, and will keep your suggestions in mind. Please keep the feedback coming. Also, please accept my apologies for the problems I'm currently having with my website.

Google sync simply added another calendar to Google (and will sync that one). It did not give an option to choose which Google calendar to sync with. It apparently cannot sync all G-calanders. IMHO, as someone who uses Google Calendar for everything, (desktop and android), this program adds a layer of unnecessary interface.

It is, however, a pretty interface and would be quite useful for someone who needs a decent desktop cal.

Downloaded without a problem in Win7-64bit. The program has a lot of pluses, but it does take a lot of real estate on an already crowded desktop. Even the mini-version. It would be nice if you could move the desktop views of the calendar around the desktop so that you could avoid other necessaries....

Same question as # 5. I've been using the free lite for a while now and would love the pro version but every time I click on the GOTD Special link I just get to a discount page and the free link brings me to the lite version. Not complaining but how is this free giveaway any different than what they offer every day to everyone? confused.

Currently using the free version and really like it. It's worked well in syncing with Google calendar, which I use on my Droid X. However, recently I downloaded trial paid version, and when I did it wiped out all of my formatting. The events remained, but my color coding disappeared. Not good! I ended up deleting the trial version and went back to the free one.

Question for the developer: If I download the paid one from this site, will I have the same problem? How can I make sure I don't lose any of my formatting?

I guess it would be good if it could sync to phones with sms reminders etc, but other than that it seems to me a really nice program with a very user friendly interface, easy on the eye and easy to use, ideal for a home computer user without a zillion things to do on the run requiring smart phone reminders. At least the Google reminder is a good start. I've found Rainlender a bit irritating and will be happy to give this a few weeks to prove itself. Thanks Vuesoft and GOTD. And Ashraf for the steer to try it.

PIM-type applications are always highly subjective. There's a lot to this, lots of flexibility on how information is displayed, has synchronization features, can display as part of the desktop as well as conventional window, etc. The installation was clean but rather massive because of temporary registry entries related to components from using the Microsoft Installer, a System Restore Point got set, and a bunch of .NET assemblies got recompiled.

People have been complaining that the website is down. That's partly true, although you can always check cached pages on Google, etc. The part of the website that handles the helpfile has been up:
http://www.vueminder.com/products/vueminder/help/gettingstarted.html
You should always read the help yourself rather than relying on someone else's often-erroneous opinion.

I've been testing this in a virtual machine. StorageCraft ShadowProtect Desktop has direct support for Oracle VirtualBox, so I can just select the most recent near-continuous backup image (I have mine set for 15-minute intervals) and VirtualBoot it, ShadowProtect handles all of the image dependencies and the hardware-independent restore to the VM (P2V), so that part is very easy. Unfortunately, VirtualBox released 4.0 just three weeks after 3.2.12, and ShadowProtect 4.0.5 was released just two days prior, so I'll have to wait for the next maintenance release of ShadowProtect for VirtualBox 4.0 support. Some optimization needs to be done manually, like setting the amount of RAM and display RAM for the VM, the number of virtual processor cores, and installing drivers for hardware DirectX acceleration and seamless desktop integration (that's neat, it blends the physical and virtual desktops and start menus). I can tell which is which because the virtual windows don't have Aero effects, and I use an Aero theme color.

#3, OSEmuTech, this isn't a support forum. Rather than posting a bunch of useless garbage which is specific to your system, read the error code and look it up yourself. In your case, the Microsoft Installer returned error code 1601, which is generally due to permissions being messed-up in your registry.

@ #4: At the time of writing, the developer's website is still down, unfortunately. If you want to do a comparison check of today's GOTD Pro version against the free Lite version, then use the link Ashraf has provided in his review at #1: his website carries that comparison list (of all four versions of this app.) I do feel sorry for the developer; hopefully whatever website difficulties are being encountered will be resolved soon.

In reply to Bernard (No 8) Rainlendar does do Google Calendar Syc and I believe it always has. I have used Rainlendar for years. The Pro version is only 9.95 euro's ($13.29), you can install it on all of your computers and is not an annual fee. This one is $39.95 per computer per year. No comparison. So remember that today you get it free but in a years time you will have to pay $39.95 to keep the features you are going to get today. What I want from a calendar is the ability to enter dates in Outlook, Google or on my android smartphone and it gets sync'ed every time. I also want a nice desktop interface and I get that with Rainlendar. To me this product is hopelessly overpriced, offers no benefits over what I am using and I would never download from a site whose homepage doesn't even work.

As mentioned above, as at 10.40 GMT their site is down. If they are hosting the site themselves, they need to look at the issues. If it's being hosted elsewhere, time to find somebody more reliable!

The program looks promising, but I for one wil not go further while they are having outage issues.

By the way, not to be overly critical, but the website was dead the 3 times I checked on it this morning. Not a great date to be down!

Installed it in Win7 starter edition one hour ago without any problems. Customization wizzard asks some questions (where to locate time line etc) for which I need to know how it looks like - but this can be done afterwards. A very clean and proper user guidance. Afterwards I could not reach the site of the developer looking for any localization (see the postings above) in my favorite language. But that does not effect the quality of the software. It's only a temporary technical problem.

I have been using this program for months now, and it is truly superb. VueMinder Calendar Pro is probably the most powerful offline calendar available, yet despite the plethora of features it offers, it's very easy to learn and use.

In particular, the option to display multiple calendars and calendar groups, the option to sync with other calendars, whether on your own computer or with Outlook or Google Calendar, and the infinitely user-configurable user interface make this program an absolute must-have for anyone who has serious calendaring needs.

I should add that the developer is extraordinarily responsive and constantly introduces new features - in large measure, at user request

The Good
* Straightforward and easy to use.
* Allows users to have multiple calendars, task calendars, and note calendars.
* Allows users to create events, tasks, and notes.
o Event can be categorized by calendar, location, category, and priority.
o Events can have a specific start date/time and end date/time, or they can be all day events.
o Users can send e-mail "meeting requests" to other people to attend events.
o Tasks can be categorized by task calendar, category, and priority.
o Users can set events and tasks to reoccur.
o For events and tasks users can make VueMinder Calendar Pro show two different types of alerts, send e-mail and SMS reminders, and execute a program.
o Events, tasks, and notes can have descriptions/details, files, and links to other events/tasks/notes and contacts associated with them.
+ Event and task descriptions/details can be in rich text or plain text.
* Has a contacts manager.
* Has the ability to export/import events, tasks, notes, and contacts.
o Events can be imported from CSV files, TXT files, iCalendar files, Excel files, and Outlook.
o Tasks and notes can be imported from CSV files, iCalendar files, Excel files, and Outlook.
o Events, tasks, and notes can be exported to iCalendar files, CSV files, Excel files, and Outlook.
o Contacts can be imported from CSV files, Excel files, Outlook, or Google Contacts.
o Contacts can be exported to CSV files.
* Allows users to sync with Outlook, Google Calendar, share over local network, or to publish to a remote location.
* Has a highly customizable interface, with users being able to filter what data they want to view, how they want to view the data, being able to move around panes, etc.
* Has a desktop widget which gives users access to many features of VueMinder Calendar Pro right from their desktop.
* Has a powerful printing function.
* Has the ability to automatically backup program data.

The Bad
* Needs better, more direct way of syncing with smartphones, such as via apps.
* Needs to give users the option to password protect published calendars.
* No option to use plaint text for note descriptions - only rich text.
* Only allows events to be categorized in the "main" calendars, with tasks and notes having to be put in their own separate calendars. Needs to allow users to categorize notes and tasks into the main calendars.
* Does not allow users to share/sync/publish task and note calendars.
* Uses an awkward mix of due date/start time for tasks. It would be better if there were due date/due time and start date/start time combos instead.
* Needs the ability to "autohide" the calendar for the desktop widget just like how the navigation panel, tasks list, and events list can be set to autohide.
* Uses E-mail to SMS gateway for SMS notifications. Using E-mail to Sms gateways is not "bad" (because it is the only way to send sms notifications for "free") but this means not all people will be able to receive SMS notifications because not all service providers support E-mail to SMS gateways. Furthermore, some of the ones that do support it treat received messages as an MMS; sometimes SMS and MMS are priced differently, with MMS often costing more.
* Lacks the ability to password protect the program.
* No offline Help file.
