The Hide Files and Folders feature does not really do that. So long as an indexing software is available, in my case, the great Everything Search Engine by voidtools, then it will be found, thereby rendering the Hide capability useless. Other inconsistencies have been mentioned in the posts above.

Hey Giovanni,

Thanks for the heads-up on that DropIt utility. Looks like a great find, and it is very reminiscent of another program I have been using for a while called Belvedere (http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/automate-files-folders-management-belvedere-windows/). Are you familiar with it? Anyway, a cursory examination hints that DropIt may have a few features that Belvedere does not, so I'm going to have to take it for a spin to see which one is better!

Just for kicks thought I would download and try. Very poorly designed IMHO. I ran the system lock and I have dual monitors, it locked the system requiring a password to unlock it but all i had to do was right click on my 2nd monitors taskbar select open task manager find vitainterface in the running process and shut it down. I'm sorry but if it takes me 30 seconds to figure out a bypass on the system lock then I can hold to much faith on what the rest of the app is trying to protect me from.

@DVMarsh #36. Windows is awesome. Microsoft loves us all. They gave me a free update to version 8.1 last week, so I feel loved. The thing about windows is you can use it how you want. I use a desktop without anything on it. I have some popup folders near the system tray, and a start menu on the left using Classic Shell. Nothing messy or scattered about anything.

I wanted to review Giovanni's app suggestions...

SynAssistant - Very cool, but a hog on the resources - I went from 52% memory used to 77% (the first thing the program did was tell me we were running out of memory! LOL) I have 4GB right now (normally 8, but one stick died.) I even turned off 3d mode, but it still hogged the ram... Still, this program is pretty sweet - the voice commands are fun, and it has already integrated with many services. If they can crunch the memory footprint down a bit, I'd probably keep it running! For now, it's just a fun toy though.

MutliCommander - I skipped this. I love windows explorer, have never needed anything else.

DropIt - Very cool file organizer with extremely powerful reorganizing tool capable of using file names, folders, or even metadata from some file types (like mp3s) to move/rename files into your own custom directory tree. There's a great DropIt Blog too, with lots of hints and tips - good community. I highly recommend this one for anyone like me that spends a lot of time organizing files (all of my videos are well organized - i plan on spending a lot less time doing that now!)

Q-Dir - The only thing I love more than Windows explorer is 4 windows explorers! Q-Dir gives you a quad-view of windows explorer. Go to "Extras=>Tree View=>Each has One" and all 4 views have their own tree view to the left, it's the ultimate windows explorer. Will be using this program forever.

Pokki - Minor memory hog (8% of 4GB) This is basically a toy to me. I'm plenty fast getting where I want to go, I don't need another app hogging up memory to give me short cuts to stuff I can already get to quickly in chrome or other ways. Still, it's neat, and I'm sure some folks would like it. But I uninstalled it.

VeraCrypt - I already use it, I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to encrypt a hard drive, it's very thorough.

Find of the Day: Q-Dir!

Giovanni, I usually agree with everything you say, but not today.

"And why the heck don’t you try to use GOOGLE to find out more about them when the blurb here is sketcy?"

Because GAOTD should have standards. Clearly they don't, but they should. And everyone SHOULD complain when garbage like this comes up, otherwise they will NEVER have standards.

Good review otherwise tho bro! As always, gonna checkout the software you recommend. =)

That said, I'll be skipping this offering. It just looks like a lot of overhead to me - a memory hog. I've never been a fan of All-In-One tools, because you're usually only interested in one or a few of the tools, so everything else is extra fluff that takes up memory... Plus, their website reads like a 3rd grader wrote a lot of it - I never trust software with a 3rd grade website.

I find it interesting that a company selling software whose major selling point is the interface, doesn't have a single picture of the interface on their website.

I wonder if legendary software colossus A.A. Fussy is behind this?

I was very qurious about this software because of the vague description, so I went to their Website and found out about it.
Installed it showed a panel with tabs on each side of the browser with shortcuts to different pre-selected sites for social networking, Ontline Shopping, Gadgets - like calculator, Calendar, weather, evernote, translator, Security Features to lock system, encrypt, hide files, antivirus, - internet services tab with browser, games, skype, gmail, maps youtube...ect....It is basically a souped up computer interface "shell" like the desktop and its icons but everything is in done in a browser interface - interesting, worth a try. It can help speed up surfing, search, and adds a few more security features with it and a cloud storage site to store your other data.

I see that many users went bonkers instead of TRYING, and LOOKING at the user SETTINGS PANEL in the program BEFORE turning off their computer and got themselves in a mess. PLEASE open the SETTINGS TAB at the TOP of the INTERFACE and CHANGE the setting to your liking - all settings can be changed for - start with windows, - become default browser or media player, Locking windows and requiring a password (security setting Icon)...etc....Something that is done with any new program that is installed.....shame on the people that install a program that warns you that it has security features and don't go to the settings first thing....and complain they got themselves into a mess by their own stupidity.

So far the program is interesting and worth a try for a bit. The only problem I found is that it says it is a Gold version but the site says that I only have 2 GB of Storage instead of 1 Tetrabyte - Please check on this GOTD - I don't like being lured and lied to about the program offered to see if it is a mistake or false advertising (not nice)..

Thank you GOTD for another interesting Program.

P.S. GOTD had pictures of the program at the top of this page....

First time commenter. I like to go to the developer website before trying any GOTD offerings.

Went to the Softvit website and then to the Contact section. They have a picture of their office building with the address and the SoftVit LLC sign out front.

So decided to Google earth it. Not quite the same, well not even close.

I'll pass on this one.

I am a retired teacher and currently am a self-employed graphic artist who writes owners manuals (which are highly acclaimed, if I may say so). I also create website content. One of my clients is based in Taiwan. They appreciate my work in being able to present their products to the general populace in correct and understandable English. If the Vita folks can charge $50 for this application, they can afford to hire me.

No, I am not looking for work, but, "...a unique Soft that based on the latest trends"? Really?

Wow! Total turnoff just reading the description and watching video. I have to agree with all the other posters as well, and would like to thank those of you who actually did download this, test it out and give your feedback. You're braver than I am!

I don't like the fact that a company hides behind a false location. Are you not proud of the country you come from? Or do you hide behind a US address because of all the negative feedback your country gets? There's a reason for that, be a hero and change it.

External hard drives are inexpensive enough nowadays to "store" your info on, and if you want to be able to access your info from another PC or whatever, there are inexpensive zip drives, and already established, trusted cloud storage companies. (I would never use the cloud, but that's just me)

I'm afraid I am disappointed with GAOTD on this one. Did you actually test the software on one of your own machines before offering it to the public? Or did you just make sure there were no "bugs" in the download? I would rather you offer us nothing, than just offer something that a publisher allows you to give away free for one day, without trying it out yourself. I trusted you, but now I am hesitant to trust you.

This should be a wake up call to not only the publisher, but to GAOTD as well.

Not going to allow any bit of this program to touch my PC. Sorry.

This is a waste of time, it took over my computer and jambed it. I had to to do resore point to get back my computer. It uses all of your computer memory and turns your computer into a dependent web site outside your computer. There is constant communications going back and forth in the background and who knows what is being sent or received.
Stay away from it like a plague.

This software tries to give you many utilities in one box.

Skip.
I have not downloaded nor tried this software.
I do not want to.
I do not need to.

After a while, most PC users would have chosen and got used to their own specific set of time tested and proven browser/utilities. Which in most cases, would be better than VitaInterface 2014 Gold.

In addition, by sticking to their own chosen set of browser/utilities, there is no need for them to go through a long learning curve again.

Because VitaInterface 2014 Gold tries to be nearly all things, this software would inevitably have shortcomings here and there. Some users have already pointed out that it is too invasive - which is no good.

“Now you won’t require dozens of junk apps which clog up and slow down your PC. All you need is Vitainterface 2014"

So, their sales department is saying is that one junk app that clogs up and slows down the PC is better than dozens that clog up and slow down the PC? I'm not seeing that as a major selling point. Perhaps it makes more sense in their native language?

I have read all the comments today & it is a pity - BUT - professionalism IS a part of salesmanship & a very good barometer of how (literate) computer people (IT dept. - Computer wholesalers - Pop in gen) want to see the product they're using or want to purchase. I don't have a REAL opinion about the software because, I don't use the "cloud". I have 17TB of hard drive space & if I need more - I'll buy it. No Big Brother for me, or I try to keep it to a min. Last, I try NEVER to say or do something that either I can't take back, or which I will regret - nothing Big Bro has to worry about. GAOTD knows that I have been frustrated in the past, but everything comes out in the wash. gl Soft

I found the browser interface far too cluttered and wasn't able to turn the program off unless I opened up the task manager and closed down a couple of background programs. If I left the computer for more than several minutes I'd have to sign in to get back to what I was doing.

If the interface was cleaned up somewhat and it was made easier to turn off, say via a toggle on the interface, plus the cluttered interface could be made to look so much better by tabbing all the features and also including different skins so that users could match the look of the interface with their own desktops.

I wanted to like this application, but found it more bother than useful. Sorry.

First, I for one am hugely reluctant to upload 1TB of my files and information to an obviously Russian-backed company. Sheesh!

Second, even without that first fear, the company wrote that
Using “Smart” technology we have

Personally, I'd like to know

1. what that "smart" technology is
2. how do they define "smart technology" versus regular technology

Maybe this product really does have some cool, "smart" technology, but I can't tell from the product's description or their website.

All things considered, this program is a complete and utter FAIL!

The program's description is so vague that I can see how many people would have a problem understanding what the heck it does (although I understand what it does, but that's because I download and try out so many different programs). It basically attempts to aggregate the functionality of several different programs and web sites into one, including: file management, system security and privacy control, access to social networks, access to online shopping, online communications, access to email, audio & video playback, calendar and weather gadgets and some kind of advertising network (who know what that does), even antivirus and more. That's a LOT of functionalty, and the question is, does it do any of these things well without either taking away too much control from YOU (after all it's YOUR computer, right?), bogging down your system or breaking something else to do what it does?

What is worse though, is that I have been considering this program for at least a few months, but I have a couple of questions about it and have emailed their support at least FIVE OR SIX times asking about those things and have gotten no response whatsoever. If a company wants me to buy their software but doesn't want to respond to simple questions about it, I have to wonder what their support would be like once they have my money. FAIL!

Also, they have blatantly lied, because the GAOTD description at the top of this page says the program sells for $49.99, which is not true. Ever since I have been looking at it, it has been $29.99 and that is still the price displayed on their web site. It seems like they have given the good folks at GAOTD an inflated price, and for what? To make the program "seem" more valuable? FAIL!

Everyone of course has the power to choose for themselves whether they want to give this program a try, but I STRONGLY advise against it because there are just too many issues and unanswered questions. Unless of course you have the time to kill or a good, recent backup of your system so you can reinstall if this things trashes it!

It's an alternate Windows command shell, which they should have said at the beginning to appease all the confused people (yes, I was confused by the description too, had to look at the screen shots). Doesn't look too bad, but seems more targeted at inexperienced Windows users who would like to have everything in one place with lots of instructions. We experienced users sometimes forget what a scattered mess Windows is for newcomers.

All the questions, WOW. From screenshots to google to their own website I think it's fairly easy to discern what this program does and on the surface it looks pretty good especially for a noob who starts with this. This is one of the few times I agree with Giovanni and I see (now) that he is not being voted WAY up by all the usual Giovanni lovers. People, do some research BEFORE bashing things.
P.S. I did download and try this but it's not for me. The major problem is I could not find out how to make DuckDuckGo my default search engine.

I have a favourites bar and a start menu. Just 1 click on either of these gives me access to almost everything on my PC anyway.

Why risk giving control of my device to an unproffesional program from an unknown source.

A trusted antivirus from a trusted partner... Who would partner up with them ??? NOT ME.

Thanks GAOTD but not for me today,

Maybe I missed it but does this version include the 1tb online storage? If so, it's worth that if nothing else. But as soooo many people are moving to the dark side (the cloud as we call it in IT), don't put anything in online storage that you want to keep private (unless you lock it down before copying it) or anything that you can't live without if you lost it. It's just a backup of a backup as I like to peddle it. Program looks interesting but don't have a need for it.

Recently with the attitude you have, you had might as well sign off as "Giovanni Mr FREE (Know-It-All & Supreme Dictator of FREEBIES)".

I see GAOTD as being a service set up so that people don't have to hunt the entire web to find something. I do not see a problem with users of this site airing their thoughts and problems about todays giveaway. It is not only useful to the visitors, but to the developers and GAOTD site itself. I mean, it has become such that even a person who says a simple thank you for the giveaway receives negative votes. Who is to judge what is considered a "useless comment" as you say? This trend is going to ruin the site in my opinion.

The very concept of cloud storage is backup safer than on a physical disk. I doubt whether cloud space offered from a Brooklyn apartment fits this requirement. This cloud is just a little bit too virtual for me and I am slightly worried for your potential TB of data.
Regarding the other zillion features offered by this soft, I’ll consider downloading when it offers the zillionth and one I mostly need: prepare my morning coffee.

I love this forum! Software developers can get brutally honest advice about their software, and in this case, a chance to bring their offering up to the standards of savvy software users. I hope the makers of this software takes heed - and thank GOTD for the opportunity to find out what people really think. As for the software, I wonder if it is aimed at the computer illiterate - those who wouldn't mind having software that would do a lot for them?

Uninstalled it 10 minutes after installing the software. It's bloated, slowed down the system, could not register (although used two different/valid email addresses), and the interface is entirely too busy. Not worth the hassle to download and install.

NOTE: This is NOT a positive or negative review of the software or its performance. Several things, however, throw up red flags to me, and these are as much a part of any software I am interested in. FIRST: I want to know, in plain English, exactly what the software does -- not done. SECOND: Incorrect grammar, punctuation, and spelling put me off; to me, at least, it indicates a lack of professionalism, or at least, a failure to edit the content of the web site for the intended audience. I also understand the sometimes daunting task of translating a native language into English, but there are professional editors for hire. THIRD: Before downloading, I "always" visit the vendor's web site -- not reassuring. FOURTH: If I'm still not sold, I do a "WhoIs" search on the web site -- not reassuring that the admin, registration, and technical contact info is all the same person from an apartment in Brooklyn (nothing wrong with that; just indicates a small, possibly one-man, operation).

As I said, I cannot evaluate the software itself, but all of the aforementioned is, for me, part of the total software "experience" and cannot be separate from the software itself.

@Giovanni. I think the point here is that the developer is trying to sell a product with a woefully inadequate description of what it does. So, even if they had whiz bang programmers who live on crackers and only sleep two hours on Saturdays, devoting the rest of their lives to developing a fine program, based on their copy we would never know it, would we? Common sense and personal responsibility, I know they are out of fashion, but really, businesses should cater to customers not the other way around. Lets say that this program really is great, it is like dressing a delightfully curvy woman in a burlap sack..... It isn't reasonably taking advantage of the goods! Think that is sexist? Too bad, grow up.

I'm attempting to try this out (on a spare machine in case of problems). Have created account with email address and a password. It then says "trial" but apparently you have to log in again to fully activate. Okay, but this time it says "incorrect password", despite the fact that I know the password is correct. So I went through the "forgotten password" routine several times, each time getting an email to tell me that the password I was entering was correct.

Registered again with a different log-in email address and simpler password (to make sure I wasn't being fumble-fingered - multiple times). Same result. Doesn't inspire confidence. I've got 30 years experience with PCs - I'm not doing anything unreasonable or daft.

Icon at top says Questions/Feedback. I wanted to ask "why doesn't your software recognise the correct password?" But, guess what - only registered users can feedback or ask questions. I have emails to say I am registered, but apparently not so.

If you want to waste an hour or so of your precious time, go ahead and (try to) install this. I think life's too short.

For what it's worth, the website describes Vitainterface 2014 as "An all-in-one solution which resembles smartphone for your computer."
It goes on to say: "Now you won't require dozens of junk apps which clog up and slow down your PC. All you need is Vitainterface 2014 - smart and secure interface for Windows".

In its description, the site lists the following features:-

Still not sure to understand what and how this does...

Anyway I have a quick question:
Is this fully desktop based or it needs an internet connection to work?
The programmer's website mention "create an account" and a free storage space.
Really intriged and confused by this GOTD - better details needed...

Why you folks never try programs here before commenting them or giving them a THUMBS DOWN?

And why the heck don't you try to use GOOGLE to find out more about them when the blurb here is sketcy?

It seems to me that most of you always want everything on a silver plate....that's not good at all!

Anyway this GAOTD is an all-in-one file manager, online drive security tool and video and audio player!

There are lots of functionalities available under a neat GUI (hide file and folders, encrypt files, lock disks, lock your PC screen if inactive for a certain period of time, store files on an online drive, direct access to YouTube, Facebook etc....)

Full review here:
http://vitainterface.findmysoft.com/

No bad in my view but.....

....this is a short review by an user taken from another website:

1. Must make an online account to use the program fully (or at all it seems).
2. Google everything on this program.
This was very off-putting for me, as the program is all about security/privacy. Google tracks everything one does. There is no way to remove any of the default search engines, or links within the program that relate to sites (e.g. Google).
Security/privacy would be much more maintained with duckduckgo.com than google.
Slow program. I had to restart it several times to try to get thing to work at any reasonable speed.
Very little (I mean very little) option control over the program. The user has virtually no control how they would like to see the program operate.
The program made itself the default program in areas (my other programs I run caught this so I could block it from taking place), but it still changed itself to the default media player.

Overall not overly impressed with the freedom it is intended to provide but seems to steal away for itself without user permission.

SO...LOL...if you love being spied by BIG G brother, get it and enjoy it!

My 0.00000000000000001 cent for those lazy GAOTD readers who always want anything on a silver plate without giving nothing in return to the GAOTD community, except useless comments (so called "leechers" ==> LOL!)

Holy cow! When I first read the introduction on the first page to this software, I thought, "man, this is awful vague in it's description of what it is or does!?!" Also, I usually read the comments, before I even consider downloading these free give away software's and this is one of the few times, that all the comments here, are negative about this software! Which I whole heartily agree with! It's a shame too, because this software looks very interesting, in how they put a lot of tools into this one software! But unfortunately, this is their undoing, because they seemed to put too much into one thing, to where it would take a computer expert just to figure out how everything works, because it's so darn complicated and vague! But anyway, I pass!

Installed!

What a mess. Never seen such a software before. I've seen a lot of it...

Changed my default browser. Of course. Then an interface with many fancy points. Childish, like the programmed in a kindergarden.

Uninstalled. But : interesting to see, what software exist, most interesting. Really nothing for me, but for whom???

Install and see

I have reviewed their website and youtube movie. It all sounds good, but... The voice-over sounds a little foreign (I'm from UK, I'm foreign too). The contact page has a beautiful photo of an office somewhere, yet! This is the US contact address: 3165 Emmons ave. 2F apt, NY. It is someone's house or Apartment.
I'm all for people building a business from small beginnings, but Cloud Services from an apartment = smells odd to me!
Thanks, but no thanks.
