#4 why do you put blame on the software developers for your mistake in not opting out of installing the tool bars and add ons? Just about every software offered on this site is absolutely free without restrictions. Experienced users already know that you always, always install using the custom install feature. Please don't be in such a hurry to install the software by just rush clicking. Take the time to read what you have downloaded and what you are about to install.

16.@comment by dp331: Because this software is very limited in scope, and I have no need for ever flipping my video, why would I ever want to download and test this? Me I also don't have any need for this, but I can see uses for this if you had kids! Jole videos you and your kids make of them with them flipped slideways, upside down repeatedly! I made a video like that last time this was given away and thougt it was funny! Mybe I'll get grandkids, right now no use for this product that may have uses for parents or phone users that need to rotate videos!

I have had success with rotating a birthday party video using Windows Live Movie Maker.

The how-to may be googled, or the correct link should be here:

software worked fine with my w7/64 machine. tested on 2 files, 8mb and 15mb mp4 vIdeofiles, using different rotations. the results were very satisfactory. time it took for one rotation for the 15mb file took 90 seconds. thumbs up from me. thanks pdfzilla and GOTD!

How can a 91 MB file become a 722KB file? Oh loss of quality. Horrible. An MP4 file converted to an MP4 file completely pixelated. The software is what I'm looking for as my phone always records in "landscape" format. Unfortunately it does not work well enough for me to keep. Oh well just wait till tomorrow for a new deal.

@36 --- That's a great YouTube link... lol...
Nevertheless, I think this software is targeted to people who, like my "techie" 68 year old brother, still manages to send me videos from his iPad that are inverted. Only 2 ways to watch them on my PC: either stand on my head, or turn my monitor upside down.

Maybe our software today would suit such 'vertically challenged' family members ;)

So I had just got the Galaxy SIII, and went to record the marching band. Having not tried it out yet, my video wasn't 90 degrees, but completely upside down. Will video rotation be able to correct this also??

Using the video editing features in Movie Maker, you can make your movie look the way you want it to. Use rotate left or rotate right function, as you can see on the top right of the picture here:

I don't need this particular give-away but I know a few tech-challenged iPhone users who would love a simple program that would just rotate their videos. Personally, since I'm called to rotate their videos, I'd love for them to have such a program, too:-).

This tool is for rotating video clips.
It is not for converting them or anything else.
If it rotates them as it claims it will, then it does its job.
Quit complaining about what it can't do or what it isn't designed to do.

I had a couple of videos accidentally recorded at a 90 degree angle on a mobile phone by my father while on holiday. I had thought I would have to break my neck every time I wanted to watch them but this sorted them out in double quick time and it was so incredibly easy. A thumbs up from me.

Vertical videos... How is it possible?
All people that insists doing vertical videos should first see this youtube video and stop doing them.
So, this software (and all other similar ones) would become useless, what is the best to them.

@4,

First, search bars are not MALWARE. Malware is actually malicious not just annoying!
SB's are obnoxious (like ASK.com's)and I do not like them either, but they don't just show up in free software. They can come from some pretty well known commercial software as well (Norton comes to mind)!

Second, there is a bit of a contradiction in your statement that some software from GOTD "may also include searchbars but allow you to "custom" remove them". Yea if you can see/notice them in time. All search bar options operate the same way...

The point is there is no way to be "pretty confident that the software here really IS “clean”". Not even GOTD can guarantee that!! I say that not to offend GOTD. They are great! They don't write the software they just make it available.

We all just have to pay close attention to avoid SB's!

Cheers!!

After conversion none of them were watchable... and they want $29.95 for this ?? A cruel joke.

It is not easy to test the software in one day. It won't be a fair comment.

The thumbs down are because this costs $30.00 for something Freemake and a dozen other apps do for free. And I must be too old or something, but why would I want to watch anything on my S3 phone, let alone rotate it when I have a 60" LED at home ??

No problems installing on Win7 Home Premium 64-bit. Just shot 2 test videos, one needed to be rotated "anticlockwise" (ummmm, it's counter-clockwise) and one was shot upside down. Both .avi format. Rotated and converted to .mp4 with ease, sort of. The upside down video, which was shot panning left to right, was flipped but panning right to left. I tried again, first converting with the "horizontal flip" option, then converted that with the "upside-down" option.

I rarely shoot videos that need to be rotated, but have seen plenty of people flip their cameras or phones sideways then rant & rave that their video is sideways. This is for those people!

All it all, it's user friendly and it worked well, for me anyway.

After recognizing the bad rating and the majority of negative comments, I decided to test the program, with the result that a 75779 kb flv file was rotated upside down to a 906022 kb mp4 file with no recognizable lost of picture and sound quality in about 5 mins. So I have to say, that I would use this app for correcting a video that was recorded upright, specially because it's free today! Thanks to the developer and gotd.

I had a batch of mp4 files recorded upside down from a month ago so this program was just what I needed. Downloaded, installed and registered with ease. When the first video rotation was complete, the audio track was fine but the video had been accelerated like one of those Keystone Kops short films from the silent era, so it's no good for my purpose. Sorry.

Succeeds at rotating video but outputted video is of low quality. Tried various formats and always the same result. Also changes widescreen video to letterboxed garbage. Thumbs down big time.

Bozeke's corrected link for Freemake in #11 above is correct and helpful. Downloaded and tried that on a very simple short .mov file I needed to rotate and it seemed OK and otherwise very useful. But I wanted to keep that file in original format -- just rotated, not converted -- and did not see how to do that.

Does not work at all, no video was converted/rotated!

I tried several different file formats (AVI, MOV, MP4) with different resolutions and here are the results:
MOV: File can't be read because incompatible to QuickTime.
MP4: First frame will be displayed rotated for the whole duration and only audio will be played.
AVI: Only few kilobytes in size and not playable.
MPG: Same as AVI.

I have never seen such a disappointing outcome, not even with free software!

For simple rotation, is it lossless or is it re-encoding the output video? It does not say on their website and McAfee flagged a warning, without saying anything more than it exhibited one or more risky behaviors.

To answer question in #2, How is this any better than the free one, I'll just say this : after downloading some free software yesterday (prompted by the homepage of yesterday's Giveaway, alas) I ended up with searchbar hijacker malware, a common problem with free software. Site said it was clean, but it seems "clean" - like so many words now - means different things to different people.

Had to spend ages & jump thru hoops to get rid of it, and now have even greater appreciation of the software we get here at GOTD.

True, some companies here at GOTD also include searchbar hijacks - if you don't install using the "Custom" option and untick the searchbar addon "bonus" - and some companies are regular offenders, but most don't do this, and we can usually be pretty confident that the software here really IS "clean".

Free software is often great - efficient, graceful, & useful - but without trustworthy assurances that that it is free of spyware, hijacks, & other malware, we may be downloading it at some risk.

Freemake Video Converter does this for free.

You can rotate, flip, cut out or trim sections, and combine several videos. Plus convert from to all these formats.
Convert video free to AVI, MP4, WMV, MKV, FLV, 3GP, MPEG, DVD, Blu-ray, MP3, iPod, iPhone, iPad, PSP, Android, Nokia, Samsung, BlackBerry with Free Video Converter. I have used this program to convert hundreds of my DVD’s to MP4.
