Even though this WonderFox DVD Video Converter included video conversion, DVD conversion, video downloading, audio conversion totally four capabilities. But it was still lack of 3D edition, Blu-ray discs conversion, etc. fairly significant abilities. It needs to be improved !

@ mike and Ozimski re subtitles: While I haven't tried this program yet (and I will try it) when it comes to ripping subtitles from DVDs, I have really loved DVDFab. It will rip the movie, subs and sound in any of the available languages on the disk. It will do straight copies of disks or rips. This program has been my ripping/copying bread and butter.

For burning previously ripped movies and subs, I really like ConvertXtoDVD.

The only downside to both of these programs is that they are not free.

Nice results. All I had time to try and rip to NTSC DVD, two movies detected, although one was the title sequence and the FBI warnings, etc.
My only issue, that I didn't spot is it install in a "weird" directory. C:\Program Files(x86) not Files (x86).

As for no GPU support, it's in my copy, and checked by default. I'm not sure what that suggestion is about.

Also, be sure to uncheck updates! :)

Total time 3.89GB movie approx. 18 minutes.

Hopefully the moderators will ignore my previous comment regarding the speed of conversion.
When I checked again I had converted from an MP4 to and MP4, so at 71 senility has settled in as an unwelcome companion.
If my previous comment does get posted my apologies to all.

A follow-up to my last question about junction points. My computer came with a 2TB hard drive and it is partitioned into two 1TB drives allocated a C and D, so will I have any issues? Thanks again.

So what is a junction point? I've been reading, and I think it applies to people who have a partitioned drive? If I just have a regular WIN7 install will I have any problems like a few people mentioned above?

Sorry if I sound like I'm stupid, because..well.. I am.

It doesn't read blu ray videos.
Is there any free ones out there that work with blu ray DVD?
Thanks

@Waldek Ozimski
For srt subtitles not showing up,
What player are you using? If you are using Windows Media player, it doesn't have built-in subtitle support for avi and mkv files and so on so you will have to get a program like DirectVobSub and enable them via that program. For Media Player Classic or VLC, you have to enable the subtitles from the menu in the player. SRT subtitles are subtitles that can be attached to the video and can be toggled on/off. If none of that works, Wonderfox must have done something wrong.

I regret to say that both this version and the prior one give me error messages each and every time I have loaded a DVD on either a laptop or a desktop, both running Windows 7 pro. The program doesn't seem able to read a DVD, much less edit it.

Mike (#7),

Great response there. :-)

I performed the same install/uninstall on a 64-bit Windows 7 Pro workstation and a 32-bit Windows 7 Pro laptop. Exactly the same problem in both cases.

It looks like part of the user profile file structure is imposed in place of the junction point. I saw my unique user folder, plus three folders underneath that (didn't make a note of what they were).

To me this looks like the work of a very out-of-date (and poorly programmed?) installer, that takes no notice of junction points. Though how this could happen is beyond me, since no software should be able to take out a JP just like that. I suspect it's a fairly rare set of circumstances that caused this.

I still don't have my laptop back up and running - I have a TrueCrypt-encrypted system drive, so I'm having to decrypt that fully (10 hour process) before I can boot from a Win x86 repair disk.

Fortunately my workstation isn't encrypted, so at least I can use that; otherwise my posts here may have contained slightly more colourful language! :-D

This is the 'improved' rerun? Program didn't properly detect titles on DVD with two theatrical versions - presented them as a single 4-hour title merged together. NOTHING was uninstalled when I uninstalled the program. I probably won't try another program from WonderSoft. Now I probably need to go scrub my Windows registry.

@mike #7 Thank you for the update! I was thinking about installing and I have a similar setup. I usually just run a backup first before I install but it would still be a waste of time to restore.

#4: " Software failed to detect 6 of the 7 episodes on the disk. In “Main Movie” mode, it just detects the “play all episodes” single file. So no way of ripping all episodes from disk"

In my experience, FWIW & all that, I've seen quite a few apps that had problems in that area... IMHO it's because of the nature of video DVDs, where all titles are treated the same, whether they're a trailer, an intro/outro clip, an episode, extra, or movie. IOW from the software's perspective, the only difference between a 30 second intro & the movie is the length -- there's nothing saying what a video file is used for. TO make matters worse, 2 or more videos can be combined into one file, where for example to play one you in effect select a chapter, while "Play All" plays the entire file.

The reason I mention this is not just to defend the WonderFox DVD Video Converter, but to go on to say that the best way to identify &/or isolate the different assets on a video DVD is by using DVD Shrink, IMHO anyway. That way you can play each title individually to see just what it is, & optionally copy just that title, trimmed if you want, to another folder. You can do the same sort of thing dragging the various VOB files on top of whatever player, but I think that tends to get a lot messier, harder to keep track of than using Shrink.

#6: "Works fine except “add subtitle”. Lets you choose subtitle file in an srt format but then the subtitle does not appear while playing video or other activity. Not clear what this feature is supposed to do. Should it hardcode subtitle in the output file? Coutld not find in help anything about subtitles."

In case it helps... There are 3 types of captions -- graphics subtitles, text subtitles, & embedded CC or TT. The 1st is made up of pictures or graphics on a transparent background that's overlaid on top of the video when subs are turned on. Closed Captions are plain text embedded in a usually mpg2 stream that when present can be extracted to use for subs. Text subtitles can be in any one of dozens of specially formatted text files -- the most common may be .srt. There are apps/tools to render text subs to the graphics version, as well as OCR apps that convert graphic-based subs to text files.

While there are players I'm not familiar with, & so may have this capability, pretty much the only way to display graphics subs is as part of a DVD or Blu-Ray on disc or hdd. The advantage is you control what it looks like -- the disadvantage is it doesn't scale well. Text-based subs OTOH are rendered & displayed by the player, so can look good scaled to whatever size you like. They're also editable. Quite a few players, including the default player on many Android tablets/cells, will display text subs in a .srt file as long as it's in the same folder as the video & has the same name. Text & graphics based subs can be embedded in a MKV or mp4 file container, though fewer players will display them embedded that way.

Video converters don't do much in the way of working with subs or captions -- that's stuff you handle using separate, specialized tools. Working with a DVD source they're mostly limited to overlaying graphics subs [when present] on top of the video before [re]encoding. They also may give you the option of overlaying text based subs the same way, using the same part of their code more-or-less that they use when you add a text-based watermark. That's what you get with WonderFox DVD Video Converter, though there are fewer options than some converters.

#7: "After installing and uninstalling WonderFox DVD Converter on my computer and laptop, I discovered it had NUKED my junction point and various different Windows subsystems started barfing."

NOT doubting or making light of your problems, it's odd... 2 days ago WonderFox DVD Video Converter was offered elsewhere, monitored the install in my XP Mode VM, & wound up just copying the folder to my regular win7 64 install -- No registry entries or keys needed -- no files other than start menu shortcuts added outside the program's folder. Aside from installation adding a few rudimentary uninstall keys/values to the registry, it's for all intents & purposes portable.

I am waiting to try this after I see a developer response to Rob Pomeroy #7 comment. I have not idea how in the world a video converter could break those junction points. Makes no sense to me. The program should not be changing anything at all in the file structure of the system.

Well, an update after a fairly disastrous experience with this product.

Like many I.T. professionals, I have my Windows 7 "Users" folder on a separate partition. The C: drive links to this using a junction point. It makes backup and restore of data or O/S and applications much more efficient.

After installing and uninstalling WonderFox DVD Converter on my computer and laptop, I discovered it had NUKED my junction point and various different Windows subsystems started barfing.

So thanks to WonderFox (or is it "BlunderFox"?), I've just spent my morning fixing my work computers (you have to boot from a Windows 7 repair disk, for starters and then there are some registry repairs to make).

URGENT: If you use junction points as above, DO NOT install this product.

Features of this DVD Video Converter have been improved a lot since last giveaway. I think developers pf this software are very responsible for users.

As for the product, this one is video converter + DVD ripper + online video downloader in one program. Its rich features indeed help me to do more with my collection of DVD movies an videos, so a thumb up from me.

Loaded a multi-episode DVD (TV show). Selected "All Movies" load mode. Software failed to detect 6 of the 7 episodes on the disk. In "Main Movie" mode, it just detects the "play all episodes" single file. So no way of ripping all episodes from disk. Fail.

Try MakeMKV instead: http://makemkv.com/

Or select from one of many here: http://www.videohelp.com/tools/sections/decrypters-dvd-rippers

Program is installed to a new folder program files(x86)instead of program files (x86) on windows 8. There is no space between the s and ( in the installation. Icon does not appear until computer is restarted. Thanks it also activated v4.71 which I could not before.

This software was offered here a few days ago. You can see a demo of how this software works at http://www.aj3000.org/demo/demo.html .

In my previous review I write that the software takes quite a long time to convert a video but it was probably caused by the fact that I was running a lot of apps at the same time.

As I wrote before, I believe it is a software worth having. Enjoy.
