To add to my earlier comment, I also tried the Tipard MKV Converter on these files. It took a bit over 8 hours and produced HUGE files, i.e., a 405MB MKV blossomed into a whopping 2.36 GB.

Pros:
1. Convert both DVD and videos.(I tried home DVD and commercial DVD, add and preview both well, the conversion is processing.)
2. Support MXF, MTS etc recorded files. (welfare for those who like recoding with HD camecorders)
3. Devices like iPhone 5, iPad 4, Apple TV 3, Microsoft Surface, etc are included. (a clear list of Profile)
4. Have basic editing effect as some video-conversion only software. (the trim is useful for me.)
5. One mainly three-step software – can’t be easier that it.
6. Resolution and aspect ratio can be adjusted by inputting. (better for users whose device resolution is not usual)
7. Coupon code on the software can be copy

Cons:
1. Language interface could be more (Although it has four already)
2. Only one skin, hope it could be more

I have the same problem as #39 - it triggers BitDefender which stops it from installing. I know that I can disable BD and proceed but why? Looks like a decent offering but the risk/reward just isn't there with the free alternatives available. Thank you though GOTD, you have supplied me with some great software!

I noticed the exact same thing, in fact I came here to post the comparison

Having used Aiseesoft's converter for some time it really came as a surprise to see the exact same interface. Who's ripping off who I wonder

I wish Tipard wasn't quite so obsessed with iOS applications. It makes me worry that their products might not work as well with Windows and Android file formats and applications. I'll try this out, though, hope it lets me put movies etc. on my Android tablet for my next long trip.

Talk about easy installation and worry free on registration code, the registration came already filled in and all I had to do was hit enter. When I think of Total Media I think audio included and not just video. I did want to convert some .wav to .mp3 but that is just not happening. If there is a way and I didnt see it please point it out for me. Other than that, if you want to convert video this is one awesome tool. Thanks for the giveaway.

Will this work to convert .wtv files recorded from a cable TV source? I would like to watch shows on my notebook during my lunchtime at work, but any converter I've tried shows the file as converting but once it finishes the recording is unable to be watched. I don't recall this problem when moving shows recorded with a program I used to have. Just with new shows recorded in Media Center/Win7. Any other suggestions for recording instead of Media Center would also be appreciated.

Is it just me or is this Product IDENTICAL to "Aiseesoft Total Media Converter Platinum" that you gave away a few months ago? Start Up screen, buttons, actions, preferences ALL are the same. only the name has changed!
It also appears ALL their other Offers/Products have the same remarkable appearance and capabilities.
Has Aiseesoft been "taken Over" or is this just a Marketing Stunt?

Hi Tipard,

Thanks for the GOTD, it's appreciated when the vendor attends to us. However, BitDefender flags the setup.exe file as having a virus it can't remove. It's listed as Gen:Variant.symmi.22821.

Looking forward to your reply.

After installing and registering I ran Malwarebytes and it picked up one of those Pub infections showing in my registry. I keep a clean computer and the problem was not there prior to installing the Tipard software. With that the I removed the Malware and the Tipard software will probably be safe to use now.

I tried to install this on my Windows Vista machine.
It Looked like it went through with the install - but the software is nowhere to be found. Tried twice. No joy.

Then I tried downloading the trial version from Tipard's site - but the user name for that requires an email address. User name for the giveway version isn't an email... so you can't use the trial version instead. The Trial version DID install without a problem.

Technical issue may be in the GOTD setup file.

Also - seems like quite a large number of positive hits when there are only 7-10 comments. Seems a little fishy.

I installed and registered without issue.
I added my DVD (which to this day was the only program that could actually find my DVD) into the converter loaded the settings for my tablet and hit convert. It is converting as we speak. I even get the thrill of watching the movie while it converts. Only question I have is that the settings I used were for a Nexus 1. I have a Nexus 7. The settings for that will work for mine? Yes? I hope so. I have tried probably 15 different converters and none so far could even find my movie, let alone convert it. Most wanted me to add files separately but since I don't know what they are, they were useless to me. Their help pages were awful. Thx Tipard. If this works, It's a keeper. Ty GOTD

I bought this software last year after trying several different ones that convert DVD to MP4 (ipod/ipad) files. This one was the best of what I tested. The user interface is pretty simple and there are quite a few formats to choose from to convert to. You can convert to pretty much any hand held video player format.

I own quite a few DVD movies that my grandkids love and I wanted to be able to put them on the ipod and ipad. This software does a great job of that!! The quality of the MP4 is good and it converts faster than other programs I have tried. I love this software!! I will give this one 5 Stars!!

I have Tipard Total Video Converter Platinum 6.2.16 from a previous giveaway (and I like it). What does today's giveaway offer in terms of features, functionality, and benefits that I don't already have from this company? The comparison at the link you provide is for Total Media Converter Standard v. Total Media Converter Platinum. If this program differs significantly from Total Video Converter Platinum 6.2.16, and if I decide to install, will it install over the other program or alongside it?

I've purchased multiple software titles from from a single company before when I understand the differences. Not that I'm planning to do this from Tipard, but I am saying that it is important for your marketing to differentiate your products from other companies' products, as well as from your own company's.

ok I have 1 Concern, I have downloaded the software and installed it with no problems on a machine I use for testing running Win 7 64bit. Program does what it says with no problem. I tested it using a dvd of Transformers 3 and converted it to mp4 format to use on my Tablet. Worked like a charm. My Only Concern is when I try and go to the Website it has been blocked By Trendmicro my inet security, for being reported in online Scams and Fraud.
"Trend Micro has confirmed that this website can transmit malicious software or has been involved in online scams or fraud."
Now that being said I Wonder WHY? I normally dont trust websites that have been reported. But That ASIDE the software does work. so giving it a 4 out of 5

Thank you for clearing things up, just tried converting the DAT file from one of the VCD to mp4 format compared it with Aviosoft Video Converter Professional:
Differences:
Video created by Tipard Total Media Converter
Video size:1.17 GB
Resolution:800x480
Bit Rate:2003 kbps
Frame Rate:29.970 fps
Audio:
Sample Rate:44100Hz
Channel:2Channels Stereo
Bit Rate:126kbps

Video 2 created by Aviosoft Video Converter Professional
Video size: 2.78 GB
Resolution:1080x720
Bit Rate:13955 kbps
Frame Rate:29.970 fps
Audio:
Sample Rate:44100Hz
Channel:2Channels Stereo
Bit Rate:94kbps

Although Tipard Total Media Converter had the option of Video Resolution 960x540, i choose with its default Audio/Video settings : both software having GPU feature enabled. So played the converted video in 29 inch SHARP LED HDMI (AQUOS) TV . Both the videos were comparatively similar, except for the aspect ratio, one created by Tipard didn't fill the entire tv, since its resolution was 800x480 but one created by Aviosoft filled the TV , but one downside of the video created by Tipard was after 15 min to video play the voice didn't sync with the mouth of the person.
So i changed the Audio Bit Rate to 96kbps and did the conversion, played that video and sound still was slightly not in sync with the mouth. So i am presuming bringing down the audio bitrate to 80kbps would probably sync the audio. Its a lot of time for conversion, for 1 and 1/2hr video.
I m on Win7 Pro, dual core processor, 2gb ram, 1gb Nvidia GT210 , and the video was converted with music playing on the background.
Thank you for this software, support for Resolution:1080x720 would have been a great edition.

I'm quite a bit puzzled. Even more puzzled then about the different opinions what non-comercial use could mean.

Will we be able to use this converter next year or in a month?

Though a giveaway, meaning "The software product is presented in its full functionality, without any limitations save for those mentioned in Terms and Conditions", will full functionallity be limited to limited time?

My question came from the readme file from GOTD, quote:
"This registration code can be used only for one user. If Tipard Studio finds the revealing of the code, we will make both the code and registered version invalid. The copyrights in all content on this site," and in the same readme there is one Registration code for us all (the same).

The code in the readme file will be used by all (many users) of the installing visitors, much more then one user that is!
Also the code is already revealed by GOTD in the readme file to all the downloader (they don't even have to install)!!!!

Will this software stop working shortly? I need to know. When this converter stops working suddenly and unexpected I will not even try it.

Inspecting the properties of an flv file in the convertor, I noted the bit rate for video and audio was listed as 0.

The convertor plays the file successfully.

(MediaInfo shows these ok)

Similarly the video bit rate was shown as 0 for
- divx, avi

Ok for wmv, mp4.

Excellent. This is one of the few Chinese produced convertors that actually handles Chinese characters in the path, filename and mp3 tags.

It also successfully handled the various formats I threw at it, which cause some convertors to hiccup.

I'm a bit worried about the 'auto update' function- their site says (the) 'Auto-update function makes sure you always have latest version.'

I guess that would invalidate the giveaway license -or has it been/can it be disabled?

I found the two references to the output folder a little confusing at first ('Destination folder' and 'Tools, preferences, output folder).

Would have liked:
- the ability to set output folder = source folder as a check box as per some convertors
- variable bit rate (VBR) options for mp3 conversion.

Thanks- good one.

This is the latest version of a well-featured option amongst the plethora of media converters. Like others it handles two way conversion of a multitude of different file types. NVidia & AMD acceleration are now par for the course.

Grappling with the sheer range of conversion options could be a problem but Tipard handles this well, including both recently used and customised profiles, general video or music types and more specific playback devices. The ability to extract lossless audio from DVDs is useful. Watermarking will be of use to some too.
Overall, the user interface and the options provided appear to be all that you (or I at least) could want in a domestic use product.

Like others, despite the multitude of requests over the years, it still comes with a teeeny-tiny, itsy-bitsy preview window. This rather prevents you from assessing the quality of file output, which may well be important if you're wanting to do more than watch your latest movie on a handheld. Perhaps Tipard and others will eventually listen to requests for expandable windows, zooming within these and side-by-side playback of original with the preview/output file (Oh look, a flying pig).

In use, I found that it wasn't possible to get Tipard (or its Aiseesoft twin) to load a small number of standard video files that I can otherwise play back (or convert with the free FormatFactory) without any problem. These were few in number, however, and acceptable files were converted without problem.

If, by small chance, you don't already have a converter, today's Giveaway is well worth the download.

Tipard, no mention is made of running setup.exe 'as an administrator'. Is it required, or must setup.exe be run from an actual administrator's account?
And will the installation allow other limited users to run the program, once it's installed? Will it appear in their Start menus?

@Tipard

Can this also BURN to DVD??

If not, when will you be offering the Tipard DVD Creator again? ;)

I've been waiting for that one for a long time now. LOL I know the software makers think that "Blue Ray" is the "future" .. But not me. Or at least not for me.

I think Blue Ray is going to be dead soon. You know how "they" roll things out.. Little at a time, to make you buy the same thing over & over again.

Kind of like they did with "8-Track," "Cassettes," CD, MP3 Players... etc. For video it's been, VHS, DVD, and now "Blue Ray" .. But we all know what should be next & very soon: The little "Flash-Drive" cards! It's only logical. What "records" in a "Video Recorder?" - Memory chips. Must be.

Flash drive chips are/or should be, the wave of the future, in my opinion.

Anyhow, thanks for the many offers over the years.

Previous experience with Tipard’s products have been good and a quick test of this program proved no different, speed of conversion was good as was the quality.
If the conversion was stopped before it was finished the partial conversion was left in the output folder; useful as you can check if the conversion is going to be to your liking, some converters delete partial conversions.
When setting the output values it was not possible to set the resolution to the original other than by typing it in, that is it was not in the list of options. Personally I do like this to be available as an option so it was something of a disappointment.
Finding the original resolution can be done if you use a small program available at the following link;-
http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en
It puts itself in the Explorer context menu and gives you good information about the media file chosen.

I'll be keeping this download as it looks promising.
