the d/l included a readme and ~16MB of setup.exe
setup only runs gotd activation, but the other d/l (said to be ver 5.0, build 501) installs. i guess the reg in the readme succeeded.
now i wonder if i'll ever find use for the app :-)

To our users who failed to find a place to input the registration information, it possibly because you have ever installed a registered version of Sothink SWF Quicker 3.x or 4.x on your computer.

Actually, it is a minor upgrade from SWF Quicker 3.x and 4.x to V4.7, therefore, the key to Sothink SWF Quicker 3.x and 4.x is also valid for V4.7.

In this case, the program you installed is already the registered version and it won't require the registration information any more.

Moreover, we would like to inform you that this issue does not effect the usage of Sothink SWF Quicker V4.7.

SourceTec has never let me down! I have many of their programs, including SWFeasy, which is even better than this one for creating flash movies - but this is great for making quick flash slide-shows or banners...

Jess - you have probably clicked on the link to go to the developers site and downloaded from there.

Below there is a large "Download SWF Quicker 4.7 now" link followed by a "Mirror #1" link - download one of those instead. The key is in the readme.txt

I've managed to install it fine but its asking for Flash Player ActiveX control version 6 or higher.
i couldn't find that software. i have the newest flash pler installed and i'm using Vista 32-bit.
any ideas?

I can't even open the file. Peazip is asking for a password just to unzip it. Now I will never get it installed in time to activate it free. Anyone have any tips?

Hey - this is the first useful Giveaway in awhile. Thanks GOTD - something to edit .SWF files is something we can use to hack our webpages and stuff. And I don't see where it's buggy or anything else - seems fine to me.

It wont start on my XP sp3, I just see the arrow/hourglass cursor for a couple of seconds, then nothing! I've tried installing it twice. If I can't see it, how can I upgrade, activate or whatever? Previous comments also have variations of this problem, anyone found the answer to this?

Question,

I'm sure this is an internal problem but, when I try to activate SWF Quicker, I get a message "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item".
This only happens with WinZip files, other activations work just fine.
Any ideas would be appreciated. I missed yesterday's GOTD for the same reason.

Question,
I'm sure that this is an internal problem, but I can't get the WinZip file to recognize the Quicker file for activation.
Message: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item".

Great product! Works like a charm for me! XP sp2. Update also works. One thing though- I definitely wouldn't use this on a website's front page. All flash makes pages load slower. Pages further back in site, ok, but not the 1st page, or you'll run off a lot of people. But flash animation is a wonderful thing, & fun.
What is wrong with our beloved GOTD site? I can't click others comments, & the durn error page is driving me nuts. Make sure you use copy before posting, in case it gets you too!

I have tried the option of direct introducing the registration key to version 5, of course, after I uninstalled v 4.7 (that provided today by GAOFTD) and cleaned any folder, file and all the entries in the registry. Funny, this installation not asked me any registration, SWF Quicker v5 being already registered. I say this because currently it's not any logo on the exported Flash movies, as if it used the trial version. Really strange ... God bless China and its generous developers! And also GAOTD :)

SWF Quicker crashes on startup. Same error codes as #47 (but in a different language). A Windows error message appears in the foreground: “SWF Quicker has detected a problem and must close".

However, if I sideline the error message window (without closing it), the program actually opens and appears to work. I even downloaded, installed and registered Version 5 successfully.

But as soon as I acknowledge the Windows error message by closing it, SWF Quicker closes down too.

Any advice would be appreciated.
Incidentally, I have had to post this thread about 20 times. I keep getting a 404 error when I click on "submit comment".

For Vajra.Use v 5..First make search.For example:first open your Swf container(File>Open>All files(not all formats),next:Preview(in the middle up) after enter swf container you will see in the left corner down this:Properties/Filter/Action/Output/.Click on Action and you will see:Action Script wizard and others.Also in the rigt corner down you will see what is in container.Click right on this symbols(image,graphics,sound).

Version 4.5 was given away in July 2009. I installed this v4.7 version on my HP desktop (WinXP SP3) with no problem. It over-wrote the v4.5 version and on opening gave the standard "30-Day Evaluation Notice." Below the notice was the button to register the product. I clicked the button, entered the two codes via *cut-and-paste* and the registration accepted without a problem. With SoThink's history of regularly providing updates, I've don't doubt they'll be offering the v5 update once they've improved it again. I don't mind waiting.

SWF Quicker is a good app, but installation may have some impact on your Windows install... It makes a fair amount of changes in the registry, though the main one you'll notice is it's added as an extension to Internet Explorer. [Can't give a good figure on the total number of changes since InstallWatch Pro logged entries where the values remained the same, because the new values were entered as hexadecimal, &/or lower case letters were used in CLSID keys/values. Nonetheless, & obviously FWIW, after uninstalling a previous version in XP Pro SP3 32, the figures it reported are: 7991 registry entries added, 222 deleted, & 239 updated.] The only glitch I experienced during install was an error message that a registry key couldn't be written -- using Regedit I went to the Sothink key the error message listed, & gave it full permissions... after that clicking the button to retry worked. The install package includes MSXML 4.0 SP2 -- I have the SP3 version installed so the install routine skipped it. The web site talks about installing Java & the Adobe Flex SDK, but that's the newer version only. Finally setup includes 8 files, 3 folders destined for Windows' Common Files folder.

Apologies if this is duplicated -> keep getting the gateway error.

I just downloaded the 5.01 version from the Sothink web site and installed into a different directory than the registered GAOTD version. It appears to be fully registered as it opened without a request for registration info, and so far no nag screens about 30 day trial.

Haven't tried uninstalling and re-installing V5.01 to try using the GAOTD registration directly, but it may be worth trying if you haven't installed the GAOTD version yet.

WinXP SP2: What a lame installer. Setup.exe comes with a "key wrapper" that connects to the Sothink site to "activate" the software, but disturbingly there's no way to install the application without accepting the bundled software attached to the install process (GOTD notifier, etc etc). Two attempts to install without accepting this default led to error messages and aborts. Good luck- or just accept the default crapola and maybe it'll install for you.

I've upgraded to version 5.0 (Build: 501) free. After installation, I had the program "Check for Updates" and was directed to the Sothink site. Downloaded and installed version 5.0 (Build: 501) with no problems (so far).

This software installed easily--name and password right there in the notes. The first appearance when opened--wow this is great. You can make a blank document-album-banner-navigation buttons-slide show....all with one program. I feel that is awesome. If you create websites this is a great program.

At the SoThink website, it says that if you have version 3.0 or higher of SWF Quicker, you are entitled to a free upgrade to the newer version 5.0

This is nice software but hasn't it been given away before? I can't speak for everyone but for me I don't have to have every release of a program. If a program goes from 2.0 to 3.0 foe example, that would be worth updating. But not say a 2.3 to 2.4, etc. That is my opinion.

An answer to Posting 3 (Jens)

I've just downloaded and installed version 5.0 over this giveaway version(4.7) and everything seems OK. Sothink website states that if you have version V3.X or later then the upgrade is FREE. (Menu option HELP/Check for Updates).
