supertintin is the best skype recorder software I've tried so far. lightweight yet recording quality is excellent. Too bad I missed this give away but I bought a license anyway. I am completely satisfied with its overall performance.

Before I download ANY software from this site, which is in my opinion a very GOOD site to find FREE software, I skim through the comments. I have found answers to issues concerning the offered software. Taking THREE MINUTES to read comments WOULD tell you that if you don't use Skype, why download ??? Can you magically manipulate software to the service that YOU prefer, don't think so. I myself, made many errors in the beginning, because I DID NOT READ & THINK before I acted. Reading & knowledge of a OS system just keeps me & my computer in a working well together existence. If GOTD ever offers a "DID NOT READ, THINK SCAN" for the days offering, I'm downloading. Just to have, as security, in case I'm having a "BAD" reading day.

Whatever. This program does what it does. If you don't use Skype stop whining - or maybe you should check out Skype. We plan our meetings with it and it works well. Now we can record the conversation and finally hold some people accountable for their broken promises.

It matters not whether I click yes, the comment was useful, or no it wasn't- the machine adds or subtracts any number of points without regard for whether I picked yes or no. Sorry, people, you just aren't getting accurate feedback on your comments!

One small piece of feedback:
I tried to changed the save location of the recordings, selected the Change... link, typed in a new folder name, and hit OK. It didn't actually change it (presumably because the folder didn't exist - I wanted it to create a new folder), but it also didn't give any warning that the location hadn't been changed. (It is a little more obvious in the options dialog that it didn't change since that shows the save location in the form and it doesn't get updated, but it really should give an error message, or attempt to create the folder if possible.

Just an observation re. the comments.
Those initial comments pointing out the skype only limitation of today'
s offering, may have been submitted and read by GAOTD staff before comment #1 was posted.
Moderators would have inserted post #1 as it contains information to clarify the capabilities and limitations of the software to be read before user comments.

If I press record, and then start a Skype call, it does not record. I have to start the Skype call first, and then press Record.

I usually know if I want to record just before I make the call. If I have to call first, and then click Record, I may forget to record it.

So please include the ability to click Record, so that it records my next Skype call.

I did not download this software,I do not have Skype but i did let my family who does. They all told me that the software works great for them and now they are complaining that I need to get Skype lol. My family said that it was very easy to use and it's been recording without any problems. Maybe next time if GAOTD puts the recorder for MSN up I'll download it, Thanks GAOTD

HEY! I can't record AOL instant messenger. It says it only records Skype. When I tried to record AOL instant messenger anyway (because I am stupid and can't read) it does not record AOL instant messenger.

Also, I think it should have some of the features of photoshop in case I want to do some graphics while I am recording AOL instant messenger, even though it only says it records skype. For as much as I am paying for this, you would think it would do everything.

By the way, what's a help file, and is there any point in reading it?

Agree with sentiments of Ed (#13). I enjoy the opportunity to try software of which I likely otherwise would not be aware. Gee, so some of the (FREE) offerings are things that sound interesting and worthwhile to me; others don't; so what? I--and I expect most of us using GAOTD--realize that there are millions of users out there and not everyone wants/neeeds the same programs. I appreciate the efforts of both the GAOTD staff and the authors of the software to make the programs available for free and look forward to offering constructive comments that the software authors tacitly solicit. In the meantime, to those of you who simply want to complain that a program being offered (at no cost to you other than the "trouble" to download and activate it) doesn't fit well with your individual situation, I suggest you take it somewhere else. We are not amused at your immaturity.

The promo at top of GAOTD page says " Record all audio and video streams including Skype voice mail and screen sharing video;" but that is obviously deceptive, since the first posting says it ONLY records Skype.

A very big disappointment, but glad it was pointed out before I bothered to download and install.

Looks great, thanks GOTD! I know not everyone is liking this, and it's for Skype users only; but...I'm a Skype user and so I think this rocks! :)

@ #11 jj, the free MP3 Skype recorder you mention looks, good, but it appears to be only for audio. Supertintin does audio and video, including conference (more than 2) calls.

Installed smoothly on 64-bit Win 7 Ultimate. Since I use Skype this program does exactly what I wanted. I asked a buddy to install it and when we tried using it there were no problems. Recorded picture-in-picture along with both audio streams. Nice simple interface and stores as an avi file. I'm impressed and it's definitely a keeper for me. Thanks GOTD!

Well,
I have been involved with GAOTD team for over a year now, and have tested and retained a lot of software programs. I must agree sometimes you just get a program which does not come through with what they advertise, so be it, it is what it is. I will move on tomorrow is another day.
Thankx to the GAOTD team,
Coty

It works just fine with both old and new versions of Skype. Good recording options. It's a clean, simple install. The original GOTD description should have been a little clearer that the giveaway version is for Skype only, but I got that from the comments. The only comment I would make is that Options don't belong on the Help menu.

I purchased the full-version (for Skype) about a week ago after researching several alternatives. Installed great on Win 7 x64 Home Premium and works like a charm for audio/video call recording. It's MY first time, I think, to have the experience of buying the full version of a program and then seeing it on GOTD! Ah well.

I have enjoyed many free software offerings from GOTD over the years, while passing on many more as something I just wasn't interested in; I've also uninstalled some I initially installed. That's what makes this site so great. FREE software! Download it if you're interested; pass if you're not, but really this should be a "No Whining Zone" folks! Thank you GOTD!

Annoyed? No. Too strong a word for me. Disappointed might be a better word. - I don't use Skype but I have friends that do. So I'm off to send an email to a few select people about this one. Perhaps they can/will try it and maybe even post a real message about it working or not working on the systems they have...

And after that I'm off to check out the Game Giveaway. Thanks GOTD & Imtiger.

Man, I'm getting tired of the complaining on this site. You know, the underlying reason developers offer their wares FREE on GAOTD is to receive constructive criticism on how their product is filling the need and/or could be improved.
If I were a developer of some of these producsts, after reading many of the comments users give, I'd say giving my stuff away in GAOTD is not worth it. You complainers are going to spoil it for those who approach the giveaway with gratitude.
I check out the comments to see whether or not the GAOTD app is suitable for me to try out. And many times what I might say has already been said. There are apps that are more global in scope (utilites for example) and others that are specific and require that other apps are already installed (such as Word, Skype) and those geared toward devs (such as the Flash menu creators).
Not all apps are going to appeal to all members. So, if a particular giveaway does not fit the ticket, please quit clogging up the the comments section with whiny complaining. We really don't care if you can't use the product. Go cry to momma. You are getting the bloody thing for free - it is a gift, a privilege, not a right, nor is it your own private free software store.
Good grief, it's as if some people think GAOTD and their devs should read each mind and only provide items that fit everyone's needs.
So, prima donnas, if a product isn't tailor made for you, just pass it by, don't whine, wait till tomorrow or next week and maybe something will come along you can use - and be grateful for it. And if so, try giving some *constructive* criticism that will help the dev make improvements as they see fit.
Or, go get a computer science degree and learn how to code your own tailor made apps. Oh, and maybe you could offer them through GAOTD and experience the prima donnas from the other side of the picture.

I agree with #9. The developer states very clearly in the FIRST comment that it only works with Skype. Perhaps they should mention it doesn't work with Skype Portable as well. However ---

I don't use Skype and am ignoring this offer. Perhaps if enough of this happens the vendor will recognize the limitations and give us something more versatile to try out! The way it is now, I can't decide if it is something I want to purchase.

I recommend using the free "MP3 Skype Recorder v.1.9.0" instead, available at http://voipcallrecording.com/. Have been using this plugin for more than a year, and works like a charm, without any failures etc. Recording quality can be adjusted, and the software can be configured to manually or automatically record Skype calls. Simple but effective. Cheers, jj*

I am annoyed with the offer as well, because of the skype only bit. However everyone who is writing comments this morning seems to be overlooking the fact that comment one clearly says that. Just ignore this offer, boycott the vendor and get on with life. It's just one day in the GOTD world. They give this stuff away for free, what more do you want!

It's extremely disappointing when a software company comes to GAOTD with an overhyped product. It can "this, this, and this!" Then, once we've taken the bait and spent time downloading, extracting, installing, registering and then check it out we find the "switch."
"Just for GAOTD members: software that really only does that.

Proud and happy to have new email address, or home address, or a phone number, or all four, a representative makes a comment.

"No, nothing is wrong, we only give you 1/4 of the wonderful 4 features of our, admittably over priced software."

"What? Why the uproar? You can purchase the completely working software at our site. PLUS! We'll give you a small discount. That's a GDOTD (great deal of the day).

Please note that Supertintin Skype Recorder requires Skype to be installed on the System: If you are (like many) running the portable version of Skype the "No stream to record" popup will indicate that no recording is being made.

@ Imtiger Software Team and GAOTD Team: It is always very useful to indicate whether the programs you release/offer are depending on other programs to be installed on the system... Especially bearing in mind that USB/U3 portable applications are so very popular... Skype being one of them!

Thanks

It would be nice if the developers joined forces with an online storage facility and allowed recorded data to auto save to an online storage account as it is being saved.

This is the opening line under key features above. So what do we have here? A Skype only or everything capture software?

well, i don't know but it looks like this works ONLY on skype (which i cannot check since i do not use it) i use VoipBuster and it doesn't work (no data stream to record it says) i tryed to record a Podcast from Podcast.com...no datastream to record.

I guess the install gives it the name supertintin for SKYPE with a reason. it would be appreciated if GOTD WOULD MENTION THIS TOO
SuperTintin is a recording tool for online interviews, conferences, lessons, podcasts, or family VoIP calls.
none of the above except maybe family voipcalls with skype

Easy registration, and nice simple interface, but while the blurb above says you can "Record all audio and video streams including Skype voice mail and screen sharing video" it seems to be limited to recording Skype only, and unable to process Google Voice or other audio chat. Skype is fine, but it is not everyone's audio of choice, and somehow this limitation is oddly irritating.
