Got This program thru GOTD and working smoothly. However everytime I open the program, a version update notification pops up. Does this GOTD version allows free updates or will it invalidate the program to trial mode?

I uninstalled Soda 8, but I wouldn't say it was successfully. I have Windows 10 64bit, on a nice, higher than basic computer. Pre-8 versions worked okay, and through several generations, I used those programs. Even after I uninstalled it, I have had nothing but problems. I used a specific email address, unchecked all those add ins, made sure that I told it not to change my homepage on all four browsers. Guess what? My homepage was changed on all four browsers--and when I fixed it, it changed it back after the computer restarted. I fixed it by using my anti-virus which stated I had malware on my computer. Then, the program installation email address started getting four hundred emails a DAY> when it had been only getting about a hundred. Even after three months, with the number of emails going up, with me unsubbing from everything that comes through there, I am up to over 6 hundred a day. All after downloading a new interation of a program I absolutely loved. What happened to this company? I even got pr0n emails! Are they so desperate that they are willing to turn off people who actually BUY their stuff? (I usually use it for a month or two then buy so I get all of the extras, not just a few of them.)

It looks like the offer expired well before the install deadline. I just received my email this morning, but it is only a "Thanks for signing up to the Soda PDF mailing list" email. No code.

I will give until I get back from work this evening and then uninstall it if there is still no code.

The activate-by-email mechanism needs work. I installed on two machines, sent my email address both times, and forty minutes later... still no email response. This seems to be a common occurrence judging by many comments on this and other programs.

Oops. The clock strikes twelve and still no email. Come on, email messages should be quick and easy to send -- customized or not..

Sadly... uninstalled.

I could install in on my Desktop. Now I am trying to install it on my laptop. Every time I click on EXE for installation, it says do it as per Readme.txt file. And that is the end. Now with less than one hour left, I doubt if I can ever install it on my laptop. I have the codes for Desktop. I wonder if those will work on my laptop. Never mind. This is only for info. I will use it only on Desktop.

I don't know why people are having problems. It was a very smooth setup for me and works fine. One problem for me is that on my PC, I have everything scaled to 125% in my Settings->Display (Windows 10). Soda PDF doesn't seem to scale properly to these settings. I like to split my screen halfway and have maybe a browser open on one side and a pdf or word doc on the other side, but when I try to put Soda PDF on one half, it has a fixed width that can't be made smaller. I'll drag my mouse to the edge of the window and try adjust the width, but when I try to shorten it, the windows won't get smaller in width. This width takes up closer to 75% of the width, so the browser is tiny and only has ~25% of the real estate space. It works fine on normal 100% scaling though and will split 50/50 properly.

I've tried going from 100% scaling, splitting the screen, and then back to 125%. At first glance it seems as though it properly takes up only half of the screen, but upon closer inspection, the width hasn't changed. The window is just shifted off to the side to fit the 50% leaving the other 25% off the screen cut off. Just giving a fyi in case someone is in the same boat as me. Hopefully there's some kind of update that fixes the scaling. Other than that, overall it looks very nice and clean and has the Office 365 feel to it.

WHAT??? I download the full file from GOTD... THEN the thing starts downloading AGAIN the full program ALTHOUGH I unchecked most options in the advanced options menu? And THEN still you need to wait for e-mail key? Stopped installation.

An overly complex, time-consuming installation routine eventually results in an overly complex GUI which in trying to be distinctive succeeds principally in a shiny design clutter wherein what's fundamental and what's not pile up together across the width of the screen in an icon haze.

From irritating installation through to initial operation, the developer seems utterly obsessed with matters 'online', as if online working / online connectivity is an essential aspect of PDF management instead of a minor ancillary benefit, such obsession confirmed on a program opening that bafflingly takes you to 'Your Homepage' instead of a simple drag 'n drop cradle for whatever work you wish to undertake.

'Create', a Soda 'module' which for my purposes was actioned merely to get this software to process a Word doc as a pdf resulted in it attempting to trigger my Canon printer into hard copy output but then slumping back in on itself with a message 'printing file [doc name] to PDF, please be patient.' After three minutes 15 seconds of it spinning its wheel over a task which the freeware Bullzip (my virtual printer) accomplishes in under 30 seconds, I closed the online browser-style tab and was back to 'Your Homepage' again complete with its own 'Soda PDF Online' tab.

'Convert' I actioned so as to see what the software could do with PDF to Word. The result, after more wheel spinning, was a message to say: 'An error occurred. Temp file not e:\Users\name\AppData\Local\Temp\Soda PDF8\[diagnostic string].pdf found.' I shut the program down, re-started, returned to the silly 'Your Homepage', hit convert, and this time found that every option was grayed out other than PDF to PDF/A.

Though there will likely be some people who actually wish to edit the content of a pdf file, a task which Soda PDF apparently allows and which isn't generally to be found in freeware, just about everything else in this over-wrought offering -- reading, converting (virtual printing), merging, re-ordering, selectively deleting -- is available in markedly unfussy, unpretentious guise for nothing at all from freeware developers like Bullzip, Foxit and PDFill, none of whom have this odd preoccupation with things online and"home pages." Thanks, GOTD, but no thanks. Uninstalled.

I still can't get the file to install on my Windows XP Pro 64 and I had all other programs including my Antivirus Program off. System requirements list W-XP.

I did install it successfully on my laptop with Windows 8.1 although I had to fill in my name etc several times. I thought I was going in circles. I got the Activation key by email and it seems to be running although I don't have time to give it a good try tonight. I actually don't need it on my laptop so I may uninstall it. I wanted to have it on my desktop. I'm with BLT. Why does it have to be such a chore to install programs. Is it the fault of Giveaway of the Day or the Software people.

The word "hubris" could well have been invented for LULU Software, because its slogan - SMART & SIMPLE - is shredded by an installation routine that not only is one of the worst I've ever encountered, it's so epically counter-productive that the developer shouldn't be surprised if many a prospective customer gives up on Soda PDF because they've lost the will to live.

Installation offers a default click-thru option -- something no-one should ever agree to withany software, if, as here, they've a choice of options -- and an 'Advanced options', which in typical style of just about all software nowadays, isn't advanced at all, rather a means whereby the user can exert at least some control over what gets shoved onto her / his machine. In my case, I checked the boxes for 'optimized installation', 'create desktop shortcut', 'run Soda PDF 8', and (with some misgivings) 'install Soda PDF Notification System', this otherwise garrulous developer not bothering to explain what that system might be. I also checked the install boxes for the Soda PDF8 (Main Application) and the Soda PDF 8 Modules.

So far, not so simple. But at least, not so difficult. At the next screen though, the user certainly does need to be smart, even if the install routine isn't: both the check boxes for something called Ad-Aware Companion and the substitution by Microsoft's Bing search engine of whatever you've set up as your home page in your browser (mine's 'blank') are already ticked. They shouldn't be. To uncheck the Bing takeover, it's necessary to leave the Ad Aware Companion box checked. Trying it the other way around won't work. So-oo. . . first uncheck Bing, then uncheck Ad Aware Companion. And then, with both boxes unchecked, click on the SKIP button. (You could, of course, trust the developer and ignore the boxes and merely click on SKIP. But only if you're more trustful than I am. And only if you think SKIP means skipping an entire process, rather than skipping your opt-outs.)

I then continued with this installation, taking a screen capture at every stage -- standard practice, smart not stupid -- with those two check boxes unchecked and the SKIP hit by way of testing out its meaning and then, then:

"New web browser extension. Installed the new extension: Soda PDF 8 Creator 1.0 to web browser Mozilla Firefox."

Now, Mr Today's Developer. I am very, very picky about what I allow to be added to my browser. Picky to the extent that any developer who comes along and starts loading it without a word of explanation as to what they're doing doesn't get on my Christmas card list. As I haven't a clue why LULU wanted to install the extension, I hit the 'Reject' button on Kerish Doctor 2016 as well as WinPatrol (which by now was also flagging up a similar alert.)

Onwards and upwards then, except there's now yet another screen to contend with, all about 'virtual drive integration' and saving files to the Cloud, a facility which this developer could -- and should -- have kept out of the install routine and offered later: it really isn't A Good Idea for any computer user to start associating new, untried software from an untried source with her / his personal OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive and Box sign-ins. Or connecting to Evernote. All of that can be done at a later stage -- if the user wishes -- rather than clogging up the install.

So. Is it over yet? Er, no. The install routine from a developer touting its wares as SMART & SIMPLE is not only becoming less smart by the second, it's also becoming ever more complicated. The next screen from the "Soda PDF Setup Wizard' now wishes me to provide my first and last names and email address so as to receive a FREE Activation Key to "unlock the Create module as well as useful tips and exclusive offers". That I actually don't want the 'useful tips' and certainly not the 'exclusive offers' is besides the point; what I want is the 'Create module' which, apart from any other consideration, I'm already advised by the developer is included as standard in this version (so why am I having to ask for it?) and which has already -- for reasons unknown -- been the cause of the developer's attempted, though failed, endeavor to add an extension to my Firefox browser.

Ah well. Moving on . . . It seems possible that we might just -- just -- have reached the end of this anything-but-smart, anything-but-simple install routine. But no. Now, now: "Save, Share and Access your documents online!". Ye gods: yet another screen. And though I've already spent time, filling in my first name and surname and email address on the earlier one which said I had to do that if I wanted the FREE 'Creator' module, now this latest screen seeks. . . exactly the same information.

It is very possible that young men will suffer age-related baldness and young women pass clear through the menopause by the time they have managed to install this software on their computers. As I am of more advanced years, it seemed rather more possible that between downloading Soda PSDF8 Standard and actually being able to use it, I would be in a retirement home for the bewildered and on full-time medication. As yet, that hasn't happened. But then, as yet . . . I haven't actually used this software.

Thanks, then, GOTD, and thanks -- maybe -- to LULU Software. But having backed out of that latest install screen asking me to sign up for tips and offers when I've already had to sign up for a FREE module that I was told was already in the 'Standard' version, the installation froze and I killed it in Task Manager. I now haven't a clue whether this program will run or not. And candidly, after the idiotic mess that this install routine truly is, I'm not actually sure I have any strength left ever to bother to find out.

I think I might just stick with the delightful free toolkit from this long established freeware specialist:

https://www.pdfill.com

where install and opening usage of its apps takes less time than having to deal with just one of Soda PDF8 Standard's install screens. And no license keys ever needed, either. Whatever else today's developer may or may not know about PDF management, it clearly hasn't much of a clue when it comes to installation routines, or of making a good first impression. And that's not so smart at all. . .

I'm confused about the activation code for the create module since it looks like this module is already activated. Are we supposed to enter the activation code for this module separately or is it already fully activated?

Hi Joe,

The Create module is absolutely free for all users, therefore there is no need to enter it separately once you have entered your Standard key.

Couple of things. First, be sure to click "Advanced Install". It tries to install extra, unneeded, unwanted junk and trial features. Second, give the activation code some time to arrive, took about 15 min. before I received it [when I received it though, it worked flawlessly]. Third, I was very impressed, it did a beautiful job of converting a pdf to docx, however it tells me that it requires the OCR module to work, and that's not included in this giveaway so I suspect that feature will quit working in 14 days or so. Many of the so called "convert pdf to docx" packages actually convert pdf to jpg then create a docx file and put one jpg on each page which isn't useful. Maybe this will continue to work, but if not it will be uninstalled unless it turns out to be so great I choose to pay for the OCR upgrade, which is possible. I've done quite a few conversions and the one I did with this pkg was by far the best I've seen.

Hi ibssguy.

Thank you for the great feedback! The OCR module is only needed if a document opened in Soda is scanned therefore the Optical Character Recognition needs to be applied in order to modify any text within the document. If you are creating or editing any documents which were created as a PDF initially you will not need this option going forward. Although if you do need the extra feature please feel free to contact us at info@sodapdf.com and will be happy to provide you with a promotional upgrade link.

Thank you,
Chris

the "beautiful conversion" in my case was only a picture of the original pdf in the Word file, despite the ocr box showing ticked and the modules apparently active. I downloaded clicking from here, not their website; maybe that's why you have ocr active for now?

So after activating, a new pop-up opens offering a FREE activation key to unlock the Create module as long as you opt in for 'useful tips' and 'exclusive offers'!? During installation, I'd expanded the Advanced Options, and the Create module was already selected as standard, and couldn't be unselected. When I submitted my name and e-mail details after installation, in order to receive the activation key, I unchecked the box to receive updates and special offers, but it looks like agreeing to receive their mails and special offers is a condition to be able to use the Create module anyway!

Application installed just fine. Received and installed Activation Key easily. I was PROHIBITED from CONVERTing a .pdf document to Excel unless I purchased the PRO version for $38. Although the offer CLEARLY states the following, " Soda PDF Standard allows you to read PDFs and digital books in 3D, create PDFs from 300+ file formats, convert PDFs to MS Office files, and edit your documents. So, did I incorrectly interpret the offer? I do think that this is a nasty way to introduce a potential customer to their application. To the Manufacturer: "PLEASE DISCLOSE, TRUTHFULLY, THE EXTENT OF YOUR OFFER AND DO NOT OFFER PROMISES THAT YOU WILL NOT KEEP". Having had my say the software works, but this leaves me with doubts about the Manufacturer's future support integrity.

I am really concerned. I downloaded and initiated the install program and it stalled the first time at 99% when attempting to download the main program. I canceled and reran the program GOTD install program and Soda PDF then offered (automatically) to install an antimalware program I have never heard of and graciously offered to change my primary search engine to Bing?! Just saying, be careful if the first attempt to install does not work.

I have Soda PDF Standard 8 (free version) installed so guessing there's not much point in installing this one.

I uninstalled my Soda PDF 8 free when I realized the edit module (the one I need) is a trial version and expires in another week. Installed this version and looks like there are no limitations on the "Create", "Convert", and "Edit" modules. Those are all I need. I love Ashampoo products and have 4 of their programs installed.

I have NitroPDF but changed computers and it's on my old drive. This Soda PDF 8 Standard is going to a lot more convenient than dual booting just to use the old Nitro.

My impression of Soda PDF has always been favourable, as far as features and quality are concerned. Last time, however, I aborted the installation, since my AM asked me whether I consented to the program changing some of my system files. May have been harmless, but I did not like it, so I quit.

I think that is the warning anytime you install any software, anyway I installed smoothly, no problems at all.

Is this only converter or can be a printer?

you should improve it to make Amazon kindle books

You can't just make a program that "converts to Kindle." Making Kindle books is more complicated than it sounds because the Kindle format you need depends on what kind of Kindle you have. The easiest way to convert for Kindle is to email it to whatever kind of Kindle you have with "convert" in the subject line. The Kindle will convert to whichever format you need. This pretty much eliminates any need for a special program to do it for you.

Use "KindlePreviewerInstall.exe" or "kindlegen_win32_v2_9.zip" from AMAZON , they are FREE !!!

Installed and registered without problems on windows 10 (64-bit). It downloads individual components like create, review etc. from internet.
It seems OCR and review is not available with this GOTD edition.

For the OCR you need to purchase the Pro (at an extremely low price today from the page that opens when complete install), during the purchase you are offered to include the OCR feature.
