Ok upadate from my Earlier Comment 53.

Clicked on Get Key from the software AGAIN.
went through the process again, same email etc all of a sudden
EMAIL came through clicked confirm Link And YAY the Key Came through
this time, after many failures and now getting this Key i HOPE its for
the Full Version and not a 3 day key.
As i clicked on the about Tab on the software it tells me the version
Number (Ver:1.0.11.121) and Copyright Info etc, but does not Mention
if its a Fully Registered Version. I guess it must be if its Running.

Hi Everyone
I'm also having some problems getting this program to register. I'm running a fairly new Toshiba Satellite P500, with an Intel Core i7 CPU, Q720 @ 1.6GHz and 4.00 GBs of Ram. As I've been using this site for a couple of years, I think I can safely say that it's not the computer, or anything I'm doing.
` I did the two email procedures, got the serial number, but every time I went to input the number, a window would pop up to tell me that an error had taken place and the program would now be closing. I then did another reboot, a re-install and another reboot.
Now, I can get the program to start, but I can't access the registration window. One might think that would mean everything is okay, but I'm not convinced, as the "About" window makes no mention of the serial number, nor of the ubiquitous mention of GiveAwayOfTheDay.
The program does look interesting, so I would hope that Engelmann would extend the deadline, so that this problem can be corrected.
Anywho, everyone have a good one!

Yes Engelmann Website seems to be up and running, Same problem though
getting a Key from them, and yes checked my Email Spam folders etc,
but still no Key.
Earlier Today i downloaded there Movie Setter 3.0 which users the same
Get a Key Registration Process, Sent my email details etc, Sent it,
got Reply and Clicked on the Confirmation Link, AND LOW AND BEHOLD
there was the Key for MovieSetter.

So why is there a problem with Simply Good Pictures Sending the Emails?
Bet they keep our email address even if we dont get a Key from them!

Not Good for any software company even with Free or purchased software.

Cant even test the Simply good pictures!!! without a key.
Cant wait around most of the day checking for 1 email to arrive
after, waiting for 2 hours now, also giveaway will be finshed soon
and wont be able to reinstall to get the geta key pop-up.

Not Happy So Far.

I do not like to complain about programs I get here, even if I don't like them, since they are free. However, I installed this program and have been waiting several minutes on an email so I can get the key. This is such a hassle. Is it not working again? The giveaway is over in an hour, and I hope to get it registered before then. I would suggest, in the future, to only offer programs that can be registered automatically when they are installed. You will have alot less complaints, I'm sure.

I think not. All the comments about registration and poor interface design were a put off. The author's web site is a further put off - no version info, no program details, poor navigation - poor reliability (site is down). The final straw was noticing that the app required .NET. No way will I be installing that (280 MB!) bloatware.

Simply Good Pictures seems to do what it claims reasonably well, but for processing large numbers of pictures it's not so convenient. The program would certainly benefit from implementing some of the suggestions posted in the "How would you improve Simply Good Pictures?" box above.

A few hours after installing the program I received an email offer to upgrade to Photomizer at a discounted price. Apparently Photomizer is the "Pro" version of Simply Good Pictures. Too bad Photomizer wasn't today's offering. Maybe another time?

Can I get some help to uninstall this program - it isn't showing that it's installed on the Start menu even though I did install it. I'm on a new laptop that is now going to have the registry junked up since there is no "uninstall". Is the Developer going to fix these install issues?

My first time here, was recmd by a friend. I do not know what it going on, but do wish someone could tell me why I cant get a registration key so I can use the product!! Someone told me earlier that maybe the item will still be available tomorrow since the website is down. My website never goes down. I pay the extra $50 for heavy traffic. Now I see why the software offered here is for free. Very dis'pd

To ask someone to turn off most of their protection (antivirus and firewall) in order to register a product seemed a bit much. It looked interesting, though, so I set a restore point and clicked to start the registration process, and no go, cannot navigate. tsk tsk tsk.

Do you provide us with the registration key later, like you did with the Coded Color Photostudio mistake????

I must echo @31 Ben who had problems contacting the registration page. Also @44 Clive who requested the use of general default browser, not IE.
In addition to Ben's report, I did (VERY reluctantly) disable my firewall and tried again - still no connection. I am interested in the software but unable to try because I can't get past the first screen. Could somebody PLEASE post the registration link so that I can apply for a key?

To future software developers (and GOTD might consider taking it on as a policy): the requirement to disable antivirus and firewall is extremely bad practice, especially when you are also required to connect to the internet. (It is less critical if you can download first, scan, go offline and then instal). Secondly, use DEFAULT browser, not IE.

I have tried to get Simply-good-pictures installed on my W7 computer and my wife's XP system. It is after 9PM and the website is still down. I need 2 activation keys. Will you please get Engleman to honor the activations after the site works again? Thanks. Jerry

P.S. As of 10:00PM eastern a direct try to engelmann.com results in no connection to their webpage.

I too cannot activate the software nor can I access either their parent site or sister site.

This is why I don't like to purchase from software companies that offer online activation. They can take your money one day and disappear the next.

I downloaded after GOTD's update so I thought that registration would not be an issue and things would go smoothly. After downloading, I opened and read the readme file (which does not say it will register online but...!) says to fill out the pop-up window, which I'm assuming will allow me to give them my information to receive a serial number back. UNFORTUNATELY, I do not like, thus do not use IE. So, when this windows tries to take me where ever it's going, it uses IE and I get an error message. I guess I won't be able to use this freebie, Too bad, it sounded good! Maybe another time.

Also, Linda, (#41) that was a very appropriate response, I thought, to someone (#12 but actually #14) that wanted to bitch about spelling! I agree that if one has something to say, back your words up with your name!

if you will carefully note the part in #17's reply about the "disappearing options" you will find that THIS ONE'S A REJECT for sure.

Also any program that recommends you turn OFF your virus program is immediately suspect.

I am totally agree with #44 as well.

A number of users have posted comments that the activation/website isn't working.

This is just to confirm that there does in fact appear to be a problem.

It appears that the Engelmann & Simply Good Pictures websites are unavailable. (therefore their product activation will also fail).

What a waste of time. Totally useless registration process. It insists on opening IE even though Firefox is my default browser. Then the page failed to open so there was no way to get a registration key. Please GAOTD team make publishers supply the registration key in the readme file. That would be much easier.

Ok, I must have missed something. Either that or re-installing with the new download did something, because my key came quickly. So, on to a comment or two:

1) Indeed, "optimization" is as correct as "optimisation." It is a case of American vs. British spelling preferences.

2) I loaded up a couple of pics and found the optimization to work wonders on pictures that are just a little under-exposed. It made them "pop" pretty nicely. I was impressed.

3) I can see why people might want a "batch" function. Assuming that you had a lot of photos and wanted them all optimized to 100%, being able to do that would be nice. But that would imply that you had a lot of photos that needed optimizing, which I suppose, if you are like me, you do. With this software, you have to add each and save each and if you like what it does at 100% every time, it would make sense. Not sure how you would put that in the software though.

4) I also looked under "extras" under "settings." Though relatively few, I liked what they had to offer, especially starting up maximized or not.

Thanks both to the publisher and GAOTD.

Like many others, I am having a hard time registering. I downloaded and installed the software and ran it. In the pop-up box I entered the contact info. About an hour later I got an e-mail with a link. The link took me to the company website and send all the info would be sent. 7 hours later, I got an e-mail, but that was suggesting an upgrade. I stil have no serial key. Did I miss something (having already checked my spam folder)?

I have the "N" Euro version of Windows 7. It comes from Microsoft without the Internet Explorer browser. This is common for European versions of Win7. Unless I install IE which takes up a ton of room and installs over 1700 registry entries just to register this software.... Ain't gonna happen. Why the developer chose to do this I don't know...

Also the software "dials home" often. Why does a photo cleaning app need to communicate with the seller of the software? It's more than an update check. No wonder they want you to turn off your firewall and antivirus. webreg.exe comes back as "potentially unwanted program" by my antivirus so I restored my system (by choice).
Doesn't matter if it's benign, NO software and publisher should distribute software in this fashion. All this jumping thru hoops and system space for a little utility? Just isn't worth the modifications the software makes to your system. Why can't a little utility be simple? Most users will never know what this software does in the background. Just give me the app without the bloat and silly IE requirement please. Install IE for a photo app? I'm not crazy.

As far as I can tell, this is POS software! Requires an old version of MS Framework, then will not start, once installed. After visiting the publishers website, it's a lot of double talk.

Obviously if you can't get the program to start once installed, you can't register/use it. Uninstalled it and will wait for something that actually works.

Well, the first try, the installer didn't like having .net 3.5SP2, so it crashed my .net framework, then after a horribly slow download, finally installed the old framework and this software, gave a pop-up that came and left. Now it says I need a code to run (and I have to re-install the 3.5 SP2 framework too). All in all, thumbs down from me!
