Installed fine, started up right away, got the activation code without much trouble, but could not enter the license code because every time I click on "apply", an X message pops up that says, "This operation requires internet connection." And of course the internet connection is working fine on all the other features of the program, just not the activation code! I will see what happens but will probably have to uninstall it. Too bad, I was really looking forward to using it.

Downloaded, installed and started it. Scanning now. Will it scan tomorrow? Who knows? This had to be one of the most convoluted, confusing, registration processes ever. I clicked the icon, went to the webpage we were instructed to, entered the id and created an account, but was not taken to a thank you page. As there was no thank you page to close, it does not seem to have been registered, but who knows?
Please simplify.

Well u picked a lousy time to offer a great product like this. I'm in the middle backing up my computer so I can do a system wipe this weekend and do a fresh install of Windows, etc. But I checked out your forums n it sounds like a good program so I'm spreading the word.

So when something bad pass through and kill the cloud access then what ? Protection dead.

To be honest, i stay away from all these cloud things. They can never be secured. Believe me when i say that, i have several educations about this; LAN, WAN, CLOUD, NETWORKING a.s.o.

Reply   |   Comment by StefansART  –  9 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

Hi StefansART,

That the idea behind Application Whitelisting - anything that gets passed by is blocked. They won't be able to kill anything since untrusted apps or processes are blocked first. Application Whitelisting doesn't require the cloud to block untrusted files since the whitelist is maintained locally. To give the best protection possible, we ensure clarity to the user on what's running on the PC. Most other security solutions simply don't give that functionality and let unrecognized threats run. SecureAPlus is one of the few that gives the user that level control, and we have our own way of ensuring that stays true in the face of any threat, including zero-day viruses and malware.

Staying away from cloud technology, or any new technology for that matter is a conscious decision. We respect your decision to do so. But do rest assured that we do our best to make our integration of cloud technology as secure as possible in order to protect PCs.

To StefansART, Thank you! I have a LAN Server with over 10TB I use it as my "Cloud!" It is Never on-line! Not Just security issues! But! If I have important documents? Or, Work photos etc! On "The Cloud" and my ISP goes down! I can NOT work! Been caught there a time or two! Besides having sensitive information stolen! The PCs that I do use on the WEB are isolated from all my Work PCs and Servers. It may be safer now then it was a few years ago? But, Why temp it? I don't need the space and what I have on my PC's and servers is paid for! I don't need another monthly service charge to use a "Cloud"? I guess I am not one of the "Cool People"? LOL! I also only use the old versions of Adobe Photoshop etc! As all the "cool" New versions use the cloud and you have to pay for that monthly! NO Thank you!
Also, Depending on Prime time use on the internet or Cloud! It can be at times quite SLOW! I use a 50MBPS ISP, And I have seen that slow down to a crawl, When lots of users get home from work and get on the internet! I was doing my work from 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM to keep up reliable speeds and no freezes. Even working at night I have had a car crash into a pole! Or, Communication box and I have lost internet for hours on end! Not Very often! But, You know its always when you really need it! Right? If I consider the down time over 30 days and 12 months a year! etc. Its probably reliable at least 98.5% of the time! But! you know, Its the 1.5% that can rune your whole day! Or, Piss off a very important client! (o;
I use several hardware and software firewalls and different protection for different needs, I manly relay on Malwarebytes and paid versions of Avast internet security They have stopped any and all attacks and problem files before anything bad can happen! Thank you for your insight StefansART, I was glad to see I was not the only one that was troubled by today's GOTD offering. For some people it may be great and they may love it! I am sure it is very good software and does at least most of what it clams? I wish them all the success! But, for me? I will not use any software that relies on the "Cloud", Or A "Cloud" That I have no control of what happens!
Take Care, Always Have FUN!!! Rick D.

Thanks you for this giveaway, I really like this and when the license runs out I plan to purchase because the price is very affordable. I had a question though, I opted not to install the "Offline Antivirus", is there a way to install it after installation? And if so will I have the option to disable and enable the offline antivirus?

Thanks again...

Hi Guitarman,
We're glad you liked it. If you want to add back the offline AV you can simply reopen the installer and choose to install the offline AV this time around. It is not necessary to uninstall SecureAPlus just to get enable the offline AV.

Reply   |   Comment by SecureAPlus  –  9 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

Thank you for the quick reply. I did that using today's giveaway with no problems. But I was wondering, this giveaway has a wrapper around it only making it available today so I'm not left with an installer. Although I have registered and have an account, I see nothing in the account settings to where I can download the premium version installer later. So less say I have a problem and have to reinstall my PC from factory settings, how do I get the installer for premium and reinstall? I know it auto activates since I am registered. What I wondering, online the website I only see two options, PURCHASE the premium to download the premium, or download the FREE version installer. If I download the free version will that automatically convert to the premium version per my login license? This is a concern of mine, because I would like to purchase this after the license runs out or perhaps earlier. Which brings me to another question, since I already have a 1.5 years license, if I decide to purchase a license before then will that license be added to my current license, or that is say become 2.5 years if I bought a license right now with this giveaway? Or will it revert to the one years license the second I purchased and activated it even though I already have this 1.5 year license?

Sorry so many questions. I really like this antivirus software a lot. I also would like to add that someone mentioned Zemana Antimalware earlier in this thread, I wanted to mention that Zemana Antimalware is a scan and fix only software that HAS NO REAL TIME PROTECTION at all.

Thanks in advance for your help and quick replies...

Reply   |   Comment by Guitarman  –  9 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

Hi Guitarman,

Once you decide to purchase a premium license, it will be added on top of the current one. So if you purchase premium license with remaining 14 months, the Premium license will be extended to 26 months. The details of your licenses is maintained through the SecureAPlus account you signed up for. Before you reformat the PC go to your SecureAPlus account "My Devices" and deactivate the machine with the premium license that you will be reformatting (note that only purchased premium licenses can be deactivated). You can use the Freemium installer to get SecureAPlus back on the reformatted machine and simply enter the Premium License back to reactivate it.

I think Kaspersky (paid) and the free version of Avast is better than this.

Quote:

UnQuote

That is where the problem lies. It is called social engineering. A crook can con the user into believing his malware is the best thing since sliced bread. The user then "Whitelists" the malware - and this so-called awesome computer security solution has just been totally defeated.

Reply   |   Comment by ric  –  9 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

Hi ric,

Application Whitelisting features are complimented by the Universal AV. Whenever SecureAPlus Whitelisting blocks a seemingly innocent file, a diagnosis by those 12 anti-virus engines comes along with the prompt. So in a typical scenario where a real threat is masquerading as something innocent via social engineering, SecureAPlus gives users that extra information to help decide to trust it or block it. Application Whitelisting blocks everything that is untrusted till explicitly trusted. Yes, it protects you by putting you in control and indeed a user can mistakenly trust something they shouldn't (either by ignoring Universal AV diagnosis or a zero day threat no AV has ever detected) but SecureAPlus can retroactively prompt the user again as soon as the cloud anti-virus (from all 12 libraries) detects the threat.

At the end of the day, our approach gives users full control and it is still up to the user to resort to best practices when protecting themselves. What makes our Application Whitelisting so powerful is that it gives clarity to what is happening to your computer. No sneaky processes under your noses. Anything you don't trust are forced to reveal themselves while we provide the best information available (from those 12 anti-viruses) to help you in deciding. Other solutions out there will simply let threats slip by if their libraries miss it, while some even usurp control over the user and outright delete what they think are threats which can be damaging in cases where it is actually a false positive (aka not really a threat).

P.S.: I just saw in a reply above that the developer would like folks to detail their issue about the missing invisible program we tried to download onto our Windows 7 computers, within a request tosecureaplus@secureage.com That's awesome! However, how can we send any screenshots, since the program seems not to exist at all on my computer in order to even open it to show a screenshot? lol :)

Technical details of permanent failure:
Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the server for the recipient domain secureage.com by secureage.com. [113.11.251.103].

The error that the other server returned was:

But when I expanded the zip etc. and the gotd page popped up saying it's been activated, I can find no button to open the program anywhere. Reply   |   Comment by Mario  –  9 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+4)

Hi Mario,

Herd protect does indeed have more anti-virus scanners and the developers have done a great job at it. What sets SecureAPlus apart is that it does real time scanning with those 12 anti-virus engines to give you 24/7 protection.

Furthermore, SecureAPlus has application whiteliising features, which is what really protects you. It puts back full control to the user, and it does this even while offline.

SecureAPlus freemium license is also free for a year and easy to extend perpetually.

I do not understand how the content of my computer can be scanned in the cloud. I imagine that all my files are uploaded to a cloud computer, analised and a report sent back to me, Obviously this appears not to be the way the system works, maybe I should initiate a Google search unless a ind reader will describe to me how the system worksin a subsequent comment. If so, many thanks in advance.

It should upload a small "fingerprint" of your file rather than the whole file, such as a 16-byte MD5 hash. cf. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MD5

My Program Files folder is 25 GB in size, and that would be half my monthly quota in one event.
So SecureAPLus, do I have to commit half a month's quota in establishing your program? And then how often would you be uploading more of my files again?
Traffic ain't free, remember. At least not in my country. We pay a lot.

I don't know, Phaedron; I haven't tested it.

How much of your 25GB is non-whitelisted executables? Likely, a very small amount.

On my laptop, *all* executables only take 1.3GB of 17GB in \Program Files (x86).

Perhaps you could wait until the end of a metered month to test this so it doesn't leave you without if it runs amok.

Presently I have Avast! Internet Security installed so will opt out of the Offline AV during installation.

And the virus database can be updated on the CLI. Thanks so much for this giveaway.

Upon installing SecureAPlus, follow the rest of the installation instructions from the ReadMe.txt from GotD.

It claims to have 12 Anti-Virus engines. I can't make much sense out of this as I thought more than one AV Engine on the system would conflict each other (?) unless this has changed, what would be the advantage of it? I'm not installing today's offer, but many Thanks anyway.

Reply   |   Comment by omi  –  9 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-10)

Hi Omi,

These AV engines live in the cloud. That way not only does it manage to not interfere with an Anti-Virus that users may already have and like, but also manages to scan you all at the same time for the highest detection rates. An added bonus would be that since it lives in the cloud, your computer is not spending any resources at all from those concurrent scans, only enough to communicate with us in the cloud and send back a diagnosis.

We hope that you could reconsider trying us out. SecureAPlus'Application Whitelisting and Universal AV are tested to work with most (if not all) commercial Anti-Virus engines. Just remember to opt not to install the Offline AV during installation if you already have an existing Anti-Virus.

We moved lots of faculty and labs to "cloud" products. From MY experiences in responding to calls from staff with issues when using cloud products (Creative Cloud, Office 360, just to name 2), I've learned after supporting over 2200 workstations, laptops and tablets, somethings don't belong on the cloud. Looking at this product subjectively, I rather have something iron clad, offline and reporting anything that is trying to egress my networked machine. When you have a few thousand students plugging in USB's or phones, I can only have nightmares about what would happen if there was no network connectivity, they copied or uploaded a payload and the rest is history. I can have 12 security firms as a security providers for my home but if they live 200 miles away or if the road gets washed out, the only thing to stop the intruder will whats waiting for them behind my front door. I'm sure this product is of use to some people but not everyone. Thanks but I'll stick with Zonealarm, Bitdefender and 360 total security (these may or may not be used on my campus but those are what I used on my home system/network (not including the virus software in my router and server), oh and my virtual machines (till jumping systems gets more popular)..

Reply   |   Comment by tc1uscg  –  9 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+8)

Hi tc1uscg,

That's a great setup there too, and if you choose to stick with it we're not faulting you for it.

To clarify a few things however, SecureAPlus application whitelisting works even if you're offline. It will stop any untrusted app or process that is trying to run, let's say in your scenario's case when someone inserts a USB that autoruns to your offline computer.

It also plays well with other software, most especially commercial Anti-Viruses like Bitdefender, adding that extra layer of protection without slowing down your computer.

So it's really just a choice of beefing up you're already secure setup further. Since it's free for this giveaway I do hope that you could at least try it out and see if it fits nicely with your great setup.

Reply   |   Comment by SecureAPlus  –  9 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+9)

tc1uscg, I would hate to use your computers, being bogged down by multiple firewalls and scanners. 360 TS uses Bitdefender's engine but you also have Bitdefender installed? Both have firewalls but you have Zonealarm installed? Shotgun method doesn't equate to better security--in fact, the potential conflicts can create security vulnerabilities, as Bitdefender, et. al. will tell you. Additionally, where do you think offline scanner get their updates from? The Internet: the only defense against 0-day malware.

Today's giveaway has an offline scanner (though it doesn't mention which engine, so I'll assume it's their own) or you can get a version that doesn't have offline scanning so it can work with your existing solution (e.g. Bitdefender).

If I disregard the AV feature of this product, what's left? Whitelist. Nothing new nor revolutionary.

Some Windows versions have the group policy editor (GPEDIT.MSC) enabled, so you can easily create your own whitelist. Use WinPatrol or similar if you've got a downgraded Windows (Home...).

Bu it is not enough. You have to ensure the validity of all .exe/.dll/... files:
1. With www.ExactFile.com. In this case, you write a small .bat file and insert its name in the whitelist (so no execution of .exe).
2. With Private Firewall.

Don't know why developers adopt those MS designs: ribbon, metro... breaking my Windows customized theme. This SecureAPlus has very ugly interface: that blue is atrocious.

Reply   |   Comment by papin  –  9 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+11)

Hi Papin,

Not a lot of people are familiar with whitelisting, furthermore it requires a certain level of effort to do so in most cases. SecureAPlus implementation makes this seamless and backs it further down the user's usage by combining it with Universal AV (those 12 commercial Anti-Viruses). A lot of work has been put into making the whitelisting as convenient as it is secure. All that while keeping the application as lean as possible so as to not affect performance.

We are noting your feedback on the UI as well and we hope to make that better in the very near future. Your comments are much appreciated.

Installed this curious piece of software. While it remains to be seen how effective they are, I find that it's worth a shot. I haven't seen a lot of this kind of security software so far and the 12 anti-virus engines seems promising.

I know it's cloud based but I installed it on my desktop which is never offline anyways. On the upside, being on the cloud allows it to work with another anti-virus, in my case Bitdefender. I just opted not to install their offline anti-virus. That should solve the issue with Clam AV.

So far just finished my full system scan and no issues whatsoever. So I'm happy getting this on my PC with that 18-month license. But take my comments with a grain of salt, I'm no security expert.

Any independent reviews of this program comparing it to other security solutions?

Found this recent and balanced review of them:

Also found these on YouTube from a few days ago:

And this too:

Seems legit, but could still be improved. Interface needs work to my liking. But otherwise it seems to be delivering what it set out to do.

I'd still advise having something like Bitdefender locally installed instead of their offline AV which is really ClamAV which is alright but there are better free offline alternatives out there.

Other than that, it's a solid software most would be happy with.

Installed and not registered with problems on a Win 8.1.3 Pro 64 bit system. Oops!

Remember, this is a 1.5 years license. But it can be free:
"We weren't kidding when we said SecureAPlus can be free forever.
All you have to do is be a viral force of internet goodness by telling your friends & family about SecureAPlus."

It installs a renamed free ClamAv virus scanner. No credits. It installs a freeware desktop search machine from David Carpenter "everything" in the version 1.3.4. I don't see a credit either

A Japanese(?)/US(?) company with address. And a big marketing claim:
"The world's most powerful computer security solution in a clean and simple application that everyone can use." and "ironclad protection" or "Absolute 360° Protection 24/7. Military Grade." In my understanding, the best security solution is the brain of the computer user. If trained...

Upon start, it starts scanning with the SecureAge Plus virus scanner, aka ClamAv. In the settings you define the upload bevavior:

Unknown files are uploaded to the free service of VirusTotal:

Difficult to say, what I think. Can I trust a company which renames free software without mention the original producer and copyright? You'll decide.
(maybe the credits are hidden, where I don't find them...)

A combination of free available security tools, an interface to some of Windows built in security function. Uninstalled via reboot. Most secure with ClamAv? LOL...

---------
And...

I try to be as objective as possible. But it is always MY subjective opinion. If I see a terrible background, others find this beautiful. My taste is different from a Chinese teen. If I remark an unreadable overcrowded UI, others are happy to have all 67 controls visible at the same time. If I claim a "professional marketing", others read this as pure SPAM.
So take it "cum grano salis".

ClamAV & 7-Zip can be found on our EULA (http://www.secureaplus.com/Main/eula.php). You are however correct in saying that David Carpenter's great "Everything" tool is not yet included. We appreciate you pointing this out and we shall be adding this soon. You could however find the license within the install location (\Program Files\SecureAge\Everything).

We left ClamAV optional. The combination of Application Whitelisting and Universal AV is what really we propose that protects you 100% protection. The former gives back control to the user regardless of how new a threat is and the latter empowers human decision with as much information possible.

Lastly, great insightful feedback, everyone is entitled to their opinion, and it hopefully makes SecureAPlus better. We hope more people give it a chance to see what we have to offer.

I'll admit, the 58K+ registry changes deter my trying this. Otherwise, I'd find it worth a try.

I always enjoy reading your software reviews Karl, as they are thoughtful and thorough. Like you, I'm a TimeFreeze user, and I always get a kick out of your "Uninstalled via Reboot" comments. Thanks for all the reviews that you do! :)

Zemana AntiMalware is more better then this software and it includes Kaspersky,Eset,Avira ,BitDefender,AVG and Zemana-6 Engins. SecureAPlus is very complicated to understand and registration process is also very confusing.

Hi Joji,

Is not just an Anti-Virus, the real beauty of our solution lies on the powerful application whitelisting that puts you in control even against zero-day viruses and malware. This is heavily reinforced by the 12 Anti-Virus engines that we employ as well as the 2nd opinion from Virus Total to ensure that the user makes an informed decision to trust or block a possible threat.

Zemana Anti-Malware is a great software in itself and kudos to the team behind it. We have our own take on security and we'd like to make it better. Feel free to give us feedback on how we can make SecureAPlus easier to use. Rest assured that we take your comments to heart to improve the software for everyone. SecureAPlus is on GOTD after all to let more people try our full solution at no cost for a limited time.

all 6 of those combined aren't more gooder then Malwarebytes ..... There is only 1 superhero and a sidekick named chameleon .... And of course nothing beats a good Time Machine for all you Toolwizzers who don't want the complicated UI or registration
