I still haven't received my password you were supposed to have sent me yesterday. I can't get into the forum or blog. I have a special request for something I need, and need an explanation of it, and a cost. I have found 2 of them, but one costs $100 and the other doesn't have all the "pieces" the other one has, but it's only $49. I would like to discuss the necessity of those extras.

How about someone coming up with a program that will keep e-mails straight. I have 3 e-mails and several programs that use "user-names" that can't be the same as the e-mail name, or must have a symbol or number, and/or both. I have a hard time keeping all those things straight. "I have finally got the "application form" corrected for this page, but with my luck, it will change when I hit, "submit"

First of all thanks for the few applications that have worked in the past, this one is very poor quality due to that it seems the sound track is off every time and the video is grainy. i have tried there software before and had the same result on different PC's,If you don't mind the poor results then go for it ut not good enough for archiving

Thanks for this converter program. I finally got to try to use it yesterday and it works pretty well. It freezes up sometimes (not sure why) but I just shut it down and retry and it works. I was looking for a program to put my dvds on my blackberry curve and it works great! Thank you so much for the free software to try out. It is fun just seeing what you may have the next day!

Remember you are evaluating this software, not just getting it for free. The only way the software has became available at all is the developer wants to know what you think of their product, this keeps GAOTD alive, the evaluations and not the greedy whining of those who wont something else. So that said, EVALUATE THE SOFTWARE!! Shut up and stop whining about not getting other software you want for free. This software is not free! The developers want your opinion not you’re whining.

As to the software I had installation problems, Win XP Professional ps2, 2 dual core Intel processors 4 gigs of ram. This is the type of information that is required.

This program installed dozens of sound card drivers which killed the audio. Had to remove all the drivers and let plug n play find the correct one again. This was very inconvenient.

Acually, I rather like the converters. I´ve downloaded about 3 or 4 of them, plus that I already got some with Nero ect, BUT still there are several (unprotected)DVD´s that i cannot convert.. And that kind of sucks :P So keep up the good work GAOTD ! <3

To Cornerg - what language are you reading these comments in? Nowhere did I say that comments have to be positive - I said they have to be helpful. Or, it would be helpful if they were.
It's the comments on GotD's management strategy that I decried.
Talk about the software people.

I only came across the site a couple of weeks ago and now use it every day. IMHO:-

1. It's free - if you don't like it, go and find other sites that give away free stuff and then you can feel really smug about how wonderful you are.

2. I haven't been here long enough for any repeats yet but in terms of getting the same type of programs then maybe, just maybe, one of them will have that extra bit of user-friendliness / intuitive interface that makes it the one I will prefer to what I already have.

3. My only complaint is when the download doesn't work because of invalid licence details or falls over at run-time (which has happened to me with the Plato products).

As someone who loves messing around with utilities, thanks GAOTD for providing an extra facet to each day.

Do any of you "No Thanks, no more Rippers... no more whatever else... we need more games..." LOSERS have any clue how tough it has to be to find, make a deal with, and get scheduled 365 applications per year ? Think about it - if 1% of the offerings turn out being something useful for you. .. that's 3-4 apps/yr you didn't have to purchase. WHAT THE HELL MORE DO YOU WANT/EXPECT for FREE?

Oh yeah, I forgot.... the guys running this site are probably making more money than Bill Gates with the AdWords on their homepage and $2-3 ping they're probably getting when someone converts an app they offer here. So they deserve to take your crap, right?

Yuh. GET A LIFE PEOPLE.

You don't need to comment every time you don't want or need a download. Your lack of downloading it will send GOTD all the message they need. Yeesh.

GOTD,

I shall not be downloading Photoshop today because my drive is too small, and besides, I only have a dial-up connection and it would take forever. Why don't you let us take a week to download big files like this - do we have to think of everything for you?

I see also that it is licensed only to the individual downloader - why can't I have it for all the people in the house - and all my friends? In addition, I don't trust this submission, since there are already 98.7% "thumbs up"; *nothing* gets that high - there must be something wrong with it. You can't pull the wool over my eyes! I wasn't born yesterday.

And what if I do download it and my computer crashes? I won't have it then. And I'd have to actually *buy* it.

Can't you guys get *anything* right?

For those cry babies who complain too much about converters: Its not necessary to download and install a free software everyday. If you dont like the day's offerings simply do something else for the day. Really what the heck do you think you should get for free everyday. What do you give to the world free everyday? Do you guys realize what it takes to convince a software vendor to give away thousands of copies of their product for free.

I would like to encourage GOTD to keep up the good work. I think lots of people appreciate your work. Its just that they do not complain like others who's days only job is to get something for free. I think lots of people like me would just move on if we do not feel the need for the days free download and then check back the next day.

So pls stop this converter complain nonsense every time one is listed or better yet - you guys group together and create even a better website where you can offer excellent (and variety) products everyday.

As someone else that is getting fed up with the seemingly constant supply of converters, wouldn't it be possible to limit them to one specific day a week. This means the users who are getting fed up with converters would know to avoid the site on this day and new users or users still looking for conversion software would still have the opportunity to get this type of software.

Otherwise keep up on the good work with other programs as there have been a few gems tucked away between all the converters.

Tested the Program and it worked well for what it does. Althought I do not need such a Program it nevertheless would be very selfish and self-centered of me not to consider that there are Others out there who may actually have a need for such a Program and perhaps missed out on the previous Converters that were presented here.
So for a "quickie" freebe for those who need it go for it.

For me, the most valuable thing about GOTD is not the downloads, but rather the comments which compare and contrast the download to other products with similar functionality. I'm sure this is also very valuable to the publisher. Someone mentioned Aplus and Agogo -- I use DVDshrink.

Yawn........... another converter. My question is why would a company offer a converter limited to a single conversion and hope to make a profit from it? Who would pay for such a limited program when there are so many free programs that will do this and more? I know what some will ask........ they want me to list the alternatives with links. What am I Mythbusters or something? I don't know how to post here and include links. Besides that free alternatives are easy enough to find. I don't feel I need to point them out. Bottom line is Plato has a lot of geat programs they can offer. This offer is too limited to interest most users. Maybe 5% at best. I don't think that is the number they were looking for when they made this offer. Come on Plato you have some nice programs. Stop offering us these one trick ponies. No one wants programs that can only convert one format. What is your next offer? A program that will convert jpeg to bmp? A program to convert mp3 to wave? Or maybe a program to convert .doc files to a txt file? I think you get the idea. The program you are offering has been done before. Instead, offer something that will get the users attention. Not just something that was offered before and imho that has been done better. Please offer us something else. That is just my opinion. Your milage may vary. Feel free to AGREE or of course disagree. (I prefer those that agree). Either way post your thoughts here. Lastly thank you so much to GAOTD for the offering. I have tons of software from you guys so I always appreciate your effort. I look forward to coming here every day to see the latest offering.

Sounds like a bunch of my whiny ex-wives are here stalking me. Bitch, bitch, bitch.

If you do not want a particular program good manners would dictate that you say, at most, "Thanks for the offer but today I will pass." I hope everyone knows what 'good manners' are, at least in theory - now is a good time to put theory into practice.

I don't have a pocket pc but plan to upgrade my phone in a couple of months, so I will download it and try it then.

Thanks.

If you follow the link to the publisher's web page, you'll see right below "Plato DVD to PPC Converter" for $29.88, " dvd to ppc + video to ppc" for $41.88. Together with the info at the top of this page, it would seem that the 2nd program, the Video to PPC one, is just a trial.

The files for the trial download vs the GOTD set-up are identical, so I'd think nothing was screwed up packaging for GOTD. No registry entries are created for the trial OTOH, so besides a few meg disc space, the extra program doesn't have any impact on your PC.

As I believe is explained on their site, if poorly: If you were to try and convert a retail DVD to the available wmv or Xvid avi formats, the copy protection would make it difficult if not impossible for the Plato converter to handle. By going off the picture displayed on your monitor, copy protection is largely irrelevant. [It's your responsibility to obey any local laws/regulations] While the DVD does play on screen, it Does Not take or play real time on a current or faster PC - it's more like fast forward - so the actual time to output isn't bad. Quality could be better going off of the actual mpg2 video files on the DVD, but copied this way you've still got quality to spare considering the small frame & file sizes you're encoding.

Note that the included Xvid codec is quite old - it wouldn't hurt to upgrade Xvid itself before or after installation.

There are as always mentioned freeware & low cost alternatives -- too many to actually list. Most make use of several steps to get the original mpg2 content & then convert it - you can either perform each step yourself, or use a program that uses much the same code and performs those steps automatically. Digital-Digest, videohelp.com, doom9.org etc. all have software, guides, & forums to help you. IMHO the benefit of today's Plato software is it might be simpler for some to use...

You don't have loads of output settings to worry about, & you don't have to worry about keeping current on ripping software, or manage the ripping yourself as a separate step.

you guys are freaking retarded. This isn't "another converter." None of the converters that we have been given from PLATO have been able to convert from DVD to PPE. This is another type of converter, one that will be useful in an entirely new way.

So get off the bitch train and quite reading only the title of the page and copying and pasting your stupid-ass comments into the comment section and voting down because you don't get what you want. Like a freaking baby.

...and to add to Bailey's comment (58),
click on the publisher's link at the top of the page, you'll find 10, I say TEN converters offered by this one company on GotD since October 22, 2007 (two in the past 4 days). Only two have had above 50% in User Rating. The first one Plato DVD Ripper Pro Converter seems like it was the real deal that Bailey was asking for and it received a 75% User Rating - excellent around here for a video converter!

Thank you to #64. I (female) and not a newbie. I have had dial-up since 1997 when I bought my first computer. All I can get out in my rural area is dial-up. such a pain.

I can download the files, so my firewall is not the problem. I extract the files, and then when it says "connecting to Giveaway of the Day", THAT is when I get the "invalid key" message. I would love to try some of the software offered on here. I can download successfully from CNET, and use the software. This is the only website that I have trouble with. No other thoughts? I have no techy friends and as I said, I live far from any computer shops. Help?

My friends, what we have here is a failure to communicate. Everyone has a different view of what comments should be posted in this section. (Lenny_B @ 41 did a good job of identifying the types that are generated on a bad day.)

There is a bold statement above the comment form that says "Please comment only on the software here..." But what does that mean? If I don't like the type of software offered today, isn't that commenting on the software? If I can't get the software to download or install or to accept the registration code, isn't that software related and a 'technical' problem? It doesn't matter what I or you think the answer is - the Giveaway of the Day team is the judge.

If you don't like the comments section filling up with what you believe is inappropriate bickering, then rather than add to the filling with reviews of other people's comments, why not just give the comments you don't like a 'no' vote and move on? Any visitor has a right to write whatever they want and the GotD team has the power to prune their comments section - if they choose to do so.

Haven't you noticed the way you can only vote once on each comment? Don't you think that the GotD team could program their site so that you can only vote thumbs up or thumbs down after you've downloaded the day's giveaway? They've apparently chosen not to do it that way.

The reality is that all of the complaining is absolutely useful. How else will the GotD team know that they are turning off their loyal visitors?

On most days, I just move on when the offer doesn't look good to me - the Web is a big place with lots to see. But today I just had to 'speak' up. Not only is it factual that we're getting too many video converters but we're also seeing too many offerings from companies that have poor (sometimes awful) track records.

Those who download from this site are paying for the software with their time and with the risk of screwing up their computer systems. (Can you say 'laboratory guinea pig'?) That's why most of us want to read the comments and learn whether the time and risk is worth it. When we keep getting programs from companies that have awful track records (poor programming, slimy marketing tricks, etc), the veterans will complain and complain loudly. That's great! The message to the new site visitor today is DO YOU FEEL LUCKY? WELL, DO YUH?

I've downloaded many of the converters from this site and none have impressed me. Poor quality conversions, poorly planned user interfaces, and installation/registration problems are the norm. We, the veterans, can only take so many lemons before deciding that we don't like the taste. Newbies, have fun playing with today's offer.

For those of you having trouble with registration, try following the advice from comment 39 by Alan.

Finally, I know that getting quality applications to offer us almost every day must be very challenging. If it were easy, there would be plenty of sites doing it. There will be many more video converters coming our way. The complaining will continue. The counter-complaining complainers will continue. I'll see yet another video converter and move on with my day - hoping for a gem tomorrow (like a video converter that does a good job of producing avi from my dvr-ms files)...

Like several others I find that the license provided with this software only unlocks the "player" mode and not the "ripper" mode. The "ripper" mode rejects the license and opens only in "trial mode". Trial mode propurtedly only rips 50% of a DVD. There is a conversion oputput in the player mode, but this of course is only in real time- to rip a DVD movie this way would take as long as watching it, 1-2 hours.

I'm not gonna download it because I don't need it. Eyes aren't good enough to consider a pocket PC. But even though I'm full up on converters, I'll keep visiting. I have one program I found here remaining from a year of visits.
But that won't stop me from visiting again tomorrow because you never know. Complainers can complain all they like, who cares? Will that stop them from checking in tomorrow? No way, but if it did, who cares? Certainly not me!

and just for the record as a user of the giveaway site for a long time and my wife who uses the game link i feel that yes this site does serve a very important part on the internet it allows you to try and i say try if you wish and thats the thing if you wish nobody forces you to try any of the programs that are posted on this site each day it is not easy to get companys to agree to letting there product be posted for a free download even if it is free advertizing a lot of companys want you to pay first before you down load now so this page does serve an important link and i do think that company look at sites like this to see what programs are doing what ,but like i said at the top of the page all the negative views means nothing in the end as all that matters is if you want or need it you will use it and if you dont then dont download it

GREAT OFFERING! I just got a pocket PC and love it. One of the main things I had not yet had a way to do was put DVD video on it, but I was wanting to. Now I'm good to go. Works great, too!
