Today - 10.23.2012 I just launched the program (used it only 2-3 times to see the features when I got it), as today I got InPaint 4.7 as a GAOTD, and wanted to compare the features.

Guess what? The so called 'free' program has expired. I guess any purchase decision leans to Inpaint?!

Like any job that needs to be done, in this case wanting to modify a image, it’s good to have several different tools in the box. Like virus checkers, reg scanners and the like, not one size necessarily fits all including this and similar programs. In the case of Photoupz I had very good results with a couple of sample pics and would recommend it and glad to have it.

Thanks to GOTD and Smartopic Ltd. for the chance to try Photoupz.
The program worked well using it in Administrator Account but as others
have said in Standard User it's not registered, leaves a watermark and
will not save.It would be helpful in the decision making process to
know this before D/L and installing.I use Administrator Account just to make system changes and ad programs and Standard User for general usage.
GOTD is it possible to let us know this before hand?

I'm still looking for help at # 102. I hate to miss out on this program. It seems to work great but I can't activate it. Vista 32 won't activate as Admin. "Failed to connect. Try later." error.

#104, vika6, here is my after for your #3 before. People were asking about the steps involved. It's not a deterministic process, so your results will be different, but these are the steps which I used: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7.

Oh dear, here we go again.
For cryin out loud, Photoupz people - what have you got against Users?!?!
Okay, we have to register using an administrator account - but why can't we RUN your program as a user?
I've installed, activated, and run - all as an admin, but when I change to my everyday account, a secure, Standard User - your program ISN'T REGISTERED.
Please - let us activate your giveaway/loan/trial for all users on our machines. Please.

Windows XP SP3 - could not get this software to run. I would hear a blip over the speakers - no popup error message. Just nothing. Uninstalled. Reinstalled w/o security package running. Uninstalled and gave up. Most GAOTD offers that I have tried have installed with no problems.

Very nice software. Does what it says and does it quick.
Denoise does take some time depending on the size of the photograph. But if the size of the photo is less then 1 mb it doesnt take more than a minute.

This is not up with InPaint and is lacking in some quite basic functionality. Although the ability to add lines not to be interrupted by the removal, the core fill algorithm isn't quite as good as InPaint so even the addition of these lines don't make up for it. Functionality wise there are some issues/irritations. When zoomed in on a pic it seemed you couldn't move or scroll the pic, which is strange. Having to click a zoom in button to select the zoom in function, then click the zoom out button to zoom out is unnecessarily complicated. Far better would be zoom in with left button, zoom out with right. Finally having the painted area opaque does not help with selecting areas, would be easier to use if this was slightly translucent.

Wow. I am impressed. Easy to install, easy to use, works very well for the average user. I suppose if I was a professional photo editor I might want something closer to perfection; but for the average person wanting to remove a blemish, it's exceptionally good.

Installed fine on Windows 7 x64 Home premium.

After seeing the amazing results @13 I just had to give it a try. ;-)

Anyone having trouble with Windows 7, use the downloaded programs differently this time, and any time the file has these three options.

"Activate"
"readme"
"setup"

I have no problems if instead of setup/activate, I run the activation first, let it extract, giving the same three options. Then I setup/activate. Never have a problem that way. If I ignore that first activation file and go right to setup -- that is when I will have installation problems.

Program is OK. It works best with smaller areas, but then most of these programs do. I will keep it and play with it. Thanks Smartopic.

It's the first time I have used such a program and I found it awesome! However, I'd like to know how can I undo a particular editing I did in an image without affecting the modifications done after that. There seems to be only an undo button which goes through the process step by step. How can I jump to a particular modification and alter that without undoing the subsequent ones?

To comment #s 31, 41, 45, 73 - could any of you please explain the steps to how you got such beautiful results? I tried a couple of different pics (a sample PC pic & one of my daughter) but did not get anywhere near the results that you did. Obviously there's potential for this to be one of the greatest pieces of software given away here IMPO, if only I knew the proper way to use it. Thanks in advance for any help!

To #53 & #93: I also have XP SP3, and an AMD processor, and didn't encounter any problems. At the end of 'Setup,' the program asked to be started, and had a box checked (I don't remember the exact wording). I unchecked, exited the program at that point, and then ran 'Activate.'

I, too, got the same message – “PhotoUpz.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.” So I decided to check my desktop, and there was the shortcut for Photoupz. I double-clicked on it, the program opened, I checked 'About' (the right-most icon) and the program showed that it was registered to 'Giveawayoftheday!'

Try it again, and good luck!

Arghhh! Yet another program that needs stupid .Net! Going by another of my computers that has v2.0, v3.0, v3.5, and v4.0 installed - each version for one two bit program that is a handful of megabytes including this one, then .Net frameworks run out at 180 - 210 mb each! So, I have 800 megabytes of .Net running 20 megabytes of programs! No wonder Windows is called bloatware! Developers take note - stop using this crap!

Two thumbs up - the program isn`t extremely accurate but still excelent for very quick and basic changes. If you like them , you can always work a bit harder with more sophisticated software.

Installed on XP SP3. Install and registration went through just fine.
Tried it on a few photos but did not seem to get good results. Maybe it's me or the backgrounds were too complex.

Did not work on shadows very well either.

Certainly did not perform the magic shown in the demos. I am intrigued enough by the easy 3 step process to want to keep the software but I will need to play with it some more before using it as a replacement for my Paintshop Pro Photo even for quick fixes.

My suggestion is to add a tool that will automatically remove shadows.

I have tried to get this program to work for me. 3x I have downloaded it, and 3x I have deleted it. When I click on the program icon to start the program, my computer freezes to the point that I have to do a hard restart.

I'm disappointed, as I really would have liked to give this program a try. Guess I'll just stay with GIMP.

TEST, ASSESS and REPORT.That's how I figure out if I want this or not. Don’t defend those that wont test this software or any other. After all is that not why we are here for? To the developer Smartopic Ltd. NET Framework dependency should be listed for System Requirements:. For those that are dial up more software downloads before you can use this would be nice to now first. Another 2.7 MB dotNetFx35setup.exe is no big deal but to be informed is what this is all about for you and me.Then I can TEST, ASSESS and REPORT.

I think that the whole idea of GAOTD is to give something and get feedback wether be it positive or negative. I have personally dowloaded many programs and not every program will suit everybody. I also thank those that recommend other programs to compare with.

Anyway - I wish you all a very merry Christmas and thank GAOTD.

This app is like a combo of my two fav apps - iResizer & inpaint.
No fuss - Installed easily - Win XP sp3. I tested a few images and compared quality & speed vs Inpaint and it matches it very well. I Like the denoise filter built in -decent results. Nice simple GUI and a few other filters. I recommend you download & install for the toolbox - file is portable and should work out of the box for everybody. Thanks Smartopic & GAOTD, really appreciative for this one today. Cheers everyone.

This software is very similar to Inpaint and PhotoStampRemover. Its no better or worse than either of them. All three are similar and all do a bad job on anything other than removal of a simple object such as the boat in the Azure wallpaper. I will keep all three, but I dont know if I will ever use them. I do however use the Retouch tool in Picasa3 often as it does a brilliant job removing spots and blemishes off faces.

I am a text oriented person. I HATE hieroglyphic (icon)only user interfaces. Spreading icons on BOTH left and right vertical margins is just a waste of space

Playing with it I've found that I often had to take 2 or 3 passes to get the right fill.

I REALLY would like to be able to control where it is picking the fill color from. I've been working on one spot where it insists on using inappropriate fill (dark in light location). It seems to always be working on a horizontal displacement. I would like to be able to specific vertical selection, since many of the fixes I want to do are vertically oriented. I tried to rotate the image in the hope that would affect the copy from point, but it continued to use the same inappropriate selection point.

I place it on par with the other similar tools that have been offered here. It has stregths and weakness

Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised to learn that it is based on the same open source starting point as many of the other tools.

Wow! This little program just saved me about 6 hours work since I had been using the clone tool in photoshop to do the same thing. There's a lot to be said for doing some things "old school"... but, then again sometimes making a change can save you a lot of time and effort. I love this program! It installed fast on XP. The user interface is easy. It does EXACTLY what it claims to do and it does it beautifully. I will purchase this program when the free trial runs out for sure.
