Thanks, JC! (The reason I did not see the readme file and the activate program is that winzip directly installed.)

The activation period for this software has expired but now I know I have to manually extract the files first so that I can run the activate program before the setup program.

While the installation and initial use of PhototoFilm went well the rest sort of sucked.

I'm no codex expert and really don't want to be but some expertise is
required to use this software. I guess you could do as I did and just
keep changing codex sets (?) until one of them worked but that does
not leave me with a warm easy feeling.

It also posted some sort of error message each and every time I closed
the application. The error message was bad enough but, to add insult
to injury, it was in French. I guess that is appropriate if the error
message was meant to be insulting ("I fart in your general
direction.") but I've no idea since I don't speak or read that
language.

On a more functional level (compared to Photo Story 3 available at IBM downloads) it offered only one choice for video transition between pictures and that was well below the number of choices available in Photo Story 3. Further, Photo Story 3 allows the user to record a voice-over which is also unavailable in PhototoFilm. And Photo Story 3 also supports movement of the photo while it is being displayed which, again, PhototoFilm does not.

These may sound like insignificant differences but for my purposes
they are not.

So, long story short, I'm sticking with Photo Story 3.

The quality of the film was very low inspite the fact that I selected the high resoultion for the large and high quality photos.

To all XP user: Movie Maker in XP is much better than this. Btw, I tried this, and it gave me an very unsatisfied .avi file. The quality of the soundtrack file is much worse than the original one. And the file is about 27 Mb (original soundtrack is about 4Mb + some pictures).

I honestly believe that the products offered by this software company are featureless and uncompetitive with other products. Their site is also unlike most software "selling" websites. Featureless products that have a price tag.

Perhaps they would try to be a bit more innovative and a new website design for their software as well? *Just a tip*

# 48 & 53, Well Done...
#53 you could start with filehippo.com, freeware-guide.com or mabe
nonags.com all are good sites ok. or you could do a simple freeware
search in google or yahoo.

Still waiting on useable Shareware turned to Freeware...
This is a very poor feature today but I do like your Site and yes the
comments are always worth a read. (well not exactly...)

As stated already, this software is mediocre at best, but we have been given it free of charge to do with as we like so giveawayoftheday.com and KC software both deserve thanks. This program though just doesn't let us output the quality desired nor the functions available in a lot of other free programs out there.

Made a video of 30(ish) birthday party pictures. All images were taken at full resolution on a good Nikon (etc). The quality of the video was.... pretty bad. The program also craps out and stops responding when I tried to add the music. I may need to play more before rendering a final verdict, but so far.... not so positive.

Not a bad 'little' programme. if you have you slides inorder before loading, works just as in the demo, however the "organize" screen has or rather presents problems for me. I cannot get proper acess to the buttons to organize slides. may it is because I am using win98se or i have my screen parameters set wrong. not sure. maybe someone could offer some help as this program is special. it offers some animation to the static sildes. much better presentation than power point.

I agree that Photo Story 3 is really nice. It does a good job, very easily, not much fuss. Most of the time, though, I use Pinnacle Studio, it gives more flexibility for advanced video editors like me!

P.S. Just kidding about that "advanced" part, lol! More like "semi-intermediate!"

These comments are annoying to read. Everyone's just bashing each other. But like the few of you who gave feeback I agree that this program is...well, mediocre. Plus there are just tons of imaging programs out there that are free. Just have to know where to look. I think this is a pretty lame release but...it's free and GAOTD was nice enough to let us have it for free. This is a great website. Thanks you to all the GAOTD staff. You guys are awesome.

Not too well coded. Worked to create a p2f file, but when attempting to save to AVI received a foreign language error message and would not create AVI. Furgitaboutit.

I am not too impressed by the quality of programs available here, even if free. Too many are very amateuirish at best.

While This software is not on I think I would have much use for , I do occasionally find some real gems on this site, But I use GOTD another way.
If I run up against a problem that requires a unique software solution, I go back thru the previous GOTD offerings and try to find a program that might have worked ,then go thru and see what freeware alternatives were suggested.
As for the "First To Comment"section why not set your alarm clock a little earlier and try for a "Last to Comment" on the previous days offering.

reply to big D , I know you are thankful and so am I but I am sure that all the software that is given away here is good to a degree , and the reason that they have a comments sections is to get an idea of the sellability of their product good or bad, they want to hear it all . I am not being hateful nor am I being kind here I am neutral and will call it as I see it , and thanks again to the GOTD for setting this up I use alot of the freeware given away her.

What is the big deal of being the first to make a comment? Do you stay up all night and wait for GOTD to post the new giveaway so you can put in some stupid comment? The comment section is for comments on the GOTD and not for seeing who is first. As for the GOTD program today, you can do the same thing in WinXp and you don't have to waste the extra space to have it on your HD.

Constructive comments directly linked to the product are always appreciated. GOTD team don't have to do this they WANT to do it. Are there any other sites that do this for us??? GOTD keep up the good work and many thanks!

I like the "I'M THE 1st POST! LOOK at ME!" first poster comments because it reveals who the younger - jr high school level - posters are, and whenever I need a review on some POKEMON GAMES or maybe little TAMAGOTCHI toys or baby dolls to give as birthday presents or christmas presents to little nieces and the kids, I can contact them and ask because I know they will have it and know it very well.

And it's good, because there is a permanent record of their posts so everyone will always be able to see them in the future as they get permanently indexed by search engines and their names and emails get archived on the internet. That will come in handy later, like at their graduation or employment when their friends or employer do a search on google and their names or emails come up. It will provide loads of enjoyment and fun.
