Nobody mentioned WinUtilities, which was a GOTD a few years back. It's a great suite of tools, free version appears to be the prior paid version, and you keep getting the updates. They have tools for finding duplicate files, finding empty folders, registry cleaning (if you insist), registry backup, clean uninstall, and a whole bunch more, including plugins for browsers and all (or nearly all) of Windows own tools linked from their program.

This program is rife with significant spelling and grammatical errors. These errors remind me of a low-end owners/assembly manuals crudely translated from Chinese to English. If this is an indicator of the company's Quality Control oversight, then it would stand to reason that the program coding is just as shoddy and riddled with errors.

A substandard program that is allowed to manipulate operating system and user files as a core purpose of it's function is a time bomb. I rate this program as potentially DANGEROUS to the health of your computer.

Do these boosters really work? One thing is for sure many corrupt your installed software. I have used a lot of them over the years and I wouldn't like to recommend any of them especially when cleaning up your registry. From missing icons to deactivated programs and many other issues these cleaners cause through false positives or Incorrect results. Great to keep your PC clean and tidy? If you know how to clean things up manually why run the risk of using something which isn't guaranteed not to make quite a few errors?
CCleaner is great for cleaning up web history not much else..why it even adopted a registry cleaner is beyond me...if Microsoft thought a registry cleaner would be useful they would have included it as part of the windows OS cleanup tools.

I'd been running PC booster for just under 25 hours trying to find duplicate folders (configuring the program to search all five drives and search all file types), and it still hadn't finished so decided to cancel the search and make it simpler by re configured to search for duplicate files one drive only and only for images. That was started at around 9am this morning. Nearly 3 hours later its still scanning the drive.

These scan times are not acceptable as far as I'm concerned so will be deleting the program. Thank you for letting me test the application. It would have been worth keeping if it had worked better; (i.e. scan times of less than an hour for a complete scan of my drives {7.5TB}).

usually I come by here for Mac apps if there are any, which happens rarely.

software like that isn't needed for the Mac (lucky Mac users we are) everything from OS-X 10.2 upward does optimization automatically, even defragmenting if at all needed, no registry etc, etc.

So I guess the market for these apps will persist as long as Windows is.

Out of interest, how good are these apps really? I'm asking, reading the comments, it makes me wonder....if they deliver what they promise.

ps, my first post here... go easy on the rookie :))

Yesterday, the server had problems activating due to heavy load.

GOTD team, #23 let us know "Considering this please download and install the program during the giveaway period. The registration of this product will remain active for some time after the giveaway period is over."

I just tried againg activating. No dice, today we get: "Registration failed. Error: the license key was banned"

Soft4Boost has withdrawn the key, we will not be able to activate anymore. The promise by the GOTD team was a loose promise.

I've been coming here for the last 5 yrs. on a daily basis and posting on a yearly basis: I like to read, learn and keep a low profile, plus collect good little apps that I use routinely. There are 3 people I am ever thankful: first and foremost Ashraf, a selfless and knowledgeable guy, Giovanni an important "dude" because of his input and mike a guy that gives a deep insight into many complicated technology inquiries. The rest is just traffic, people coming and going, giving good and not so good opinions and experiences. Anyone criticizing the 3 biggies is far from reality and should reconsider posting here.
Regarding the today offer, like many others, unnecessary and superfluous in a crowded market. I stay with Glary, CC and adopt a newbie, Diskmax. Thanks GOATD and the 3 biggies!

Well, it's still scanning my F drive for duplicate files and now it's been over 14 hours since I started the scan, with no sign of it finishing.

I'm going to have to leave my computer on all night just in case. Though I'm wondering whether it's hit a glitch. surely it shouldn't take co long even if there's quite a lot of disc space to check (7.5TB in total across 5 drives)

@all bashing Ashraf's contribution as 'making money from us', consider that his review is actually real, in-depth and honest as opposed to the unclickable and non-existent awards most companies plaster their site with.
Today is no different. Soft4Boost boasts of 5-star awards and the likes but provides no relevant links to them anywhere, the few linked reviews are unrelated to the claimed awards or editor's picks. A search for the claimed award/editor's pick yields no results. Yet in my search I've clicked through several Brothersoft pages. They're unintentionally making money with non-existing information because the software company I'm looking for isn't being honest. Oh yea, Brothersoft has the download, but there's no award, editor's pick or even a user rating and the so-called review is usually a copypaste description from the Soft4Boost website.
My personal stance is, if the award/review isn't linked it doesn't exist because you must be a really stupid PR-guy not providing links to favorable reviews, editor's picks and awarded downloads. I mean you can copy an image but not a link? Come on, get real. As a result all those shiny 5-star images become debased in meaning and purpose and raise more alarmbells than anything else.
This is also the reason why I haven't even tried PC Win Booster. I won't trust a program, especially a system-critical program like this, if the company can't be honest about itself. They have to beat established reps from other well-known programs and this isn't the way to do that. Certainly not in a saturated field like this that always has been surrounded by heated debates and criticism about its validity.

Can't really blame companies like Brothersoft for Soft4Boost's dishonesty of course, but I'd go for Ashraf's review any day here on GOTD. Yea, he's making money but atleast I'm getting what I'm 'paying' for. So kudos and woot to Ashraf for that, I'm more than happy to un-AdBlock his site, just like I did GOTD.

With regard to Ashraf's CCleaner link, the page he links to from here is very deceptive as it has a fake/ad download link at the top of the article and a big fake download button at the bottom, far bigger than the plain text ACTUAL download link. It's VERY easy to see how drken clicked the wrong link, and it's in Ashraf's interest that users do so that he gets click through earnings. So whilst he has no control over the ads that may appear, he does have control over how clear he makes the download link to save people being deceived.

I had also faced some problems with activation so I wrote e-mail to the support service of PC WIN Booster's team. I was told all these problems appeared due to the large number of requests to the activation server.

They have given me a one-year activation key that will work also on the future versions of PC WIN Booster as well. Now PC WIN Booster is working fine.

What can I say about this application? It seems to be interesting... Right now I am comparing it with CCleaner. Register's cleaner in PC WIN Booster is realized better than in CCleaner. In addition, PC WIN Booster has several functions, which are absent in CCleaner.

I am sure that if the activation problems were not arising, my first impression about this application would be much more better.

Thumbs down, thumbs down, and thumbs down!

Windows 7 x64.

Installed. During the installation it asked me to shut down Skype, because it is using filed, needed to be updated… However- after installation is says “Unable to establish connection with the server…”. Which mean- unable to activate. I do not have a firewall, I do not have antivirus. And no- I do not have any virus or so. I DO have an Internet connection. Tried to go to their site to “buy” the product- the site were down.

Few minutes ago the announced price was $80, now is $39.95. Funny way to do business…

And what the heck is this “$50 per year”? Seriously?

Final verdict:

I am ready to use this software, but only if somebody pay me $80 initially, and then- $50 per year.

So- thanks anyway, GOTD, and last goodbye Soft4Boost!

Hi Irene, no, it's not the same. Ashraf is making money off the back off the giveaway project by directing community members to his web site to read 'The Full Review' Why doesn't he post his full review in full here like Whiterabbit does over on the game giveaway site?

He's simply posting here to make money and not as a service to you and me.

You will always find others posting useful comments here amongst the chaff.

We will just have to agree to disagree. Personally I think its wrong (I won't labor the point and won't say any more on the subject. I'm sure there are others who agree (and disagree), but this isn't really the place for such a discussion.

I suppose the giveaway team don't mind otherwise his comments wouldn't pass moderation.

LancasterPA, Ashraf has been posting here for some time and a lot of us are very thankful for it. He, most likely, has been here before you were even considered a wet dream. GOTD would not be what it is today without the fine and outstanding contributions Ashraf has made over the last several years. Personally, I hope Ashraf is here to stay for a very long time. A lot of us really appreciate and thank him for his input and help. LancasterPA, to you I suggest the following, learn to respect your elders!

PS: CCleaner, Free Internet Window Washer, Glary Utilities, & ToolWiz Care are Free and the best programs out there.

Thanks, GOTD Team.

I am waiting for some one who has installed and activated PC Win Booster and run a registry clean up operation using it - to let us know what happened to his PC as a result.

I go to Ashraf's website separately from GOTD.
If GOTD users think Ashraf needs to fish for additional clicks here, that's laughable.

Talking about aggressive registry cleaners, so far my personal record was with a German software (name withheld to protect the guilty) that gave a total of 49,590 registry errors found.

In view of the ridiculously high number of errors; and just for fun I decided to proceed to let it "clean" the errors found, to see whether it would destroy my PC. After the cleaning, several good software cannot operate. That was expected.
A total restore was done using Acronis Total Image.
This experiment is not recommended for all users.

Lastly, Wise Registry Cleaner (freeware)is tried and trusted over and above CCleaner from Piriform, for registry cleaning purpose.

I don't trust the so called boosters, optimizers etc. And this one to cream of the public with such a high "subscription" to keep your PC healthy in their eyes (and bank account). A lot of these report false positives making it look like your PC is lagging in speed etc.when it is not.
If your PC is running ok, don't mess with it!

Installation & activation of PC Win Booster itself...

Add-on toolbars etc. were reported in the comments on the GOTD download page -- I only saw that if you use the CNET downloader to get the free PC Win Booster trial, & then it was the CNET downloader, not the app's installer that presented those options. That doesn't mean that some time in the past the PC Win Booster trial setup didn't give you those options, but it doesn't today. Regardless, there is no GOTD activation key as such, so downloading the trial won't get you anything but the trial.

Once you do install the GOTD version of PC Win Booster, when it's started it automatically tries to contact the developer's server(s) for a license key -- if it can't make the connection it pops up a window with the options to cancel or retry. You can click retry a few times, then if it hasn't gotten that key yet the message box goes away & you're shown another message with details on what won't work until you enter a key, & there are 3 buttons to close, register, & activate -- if you click activate & then click cancel on the activate pop-up, the retry message box re-appears. This morning several times PC Win Booster appeared to hang or stall as it was attempting to get the license key -- it seems that's just the overloaded server(s) as when I [finally] just left it alone when it hung after clicking the retry button, it did activate or register eventually.

Installation includes an older copy of Microsoft's C/C++ runtime installer -- there is a hotfix available from Microsoft, so visit Windows update after install. Also, the "msxml3a.dll" file is added to Windows' system folder -- I didn't see anything to hint that this would give anyone any problems, but if one of your critical apps uses XML you might want to check its operation after you install PC Win Booster.

RE: comments on PC Win Booster not canceling an operation immediately -- some apps, some installers, & Windows itself for that matter don't always respond quickly when they're in the middle of whatever task... if you want to kill something faster use Task Mgr or similar.

RE: comments on advertised awards... I didn't check out any alleged awards on the PC Win Booster site because to me those awards don't mean a whole lot [awards or their denial can too often be bought]. That said, many major sites have *separate* regional versions, & stuff like awards & reviews may or may not be shared among sister sites. While some developers do boast of awards they haven't received, some people do take a western centered approach, figuring if it's not on the US version of a site then it must not exist, & that's perhaps just as wrong. :)

@ 20 Heavy Water and 26 LancasterPA. Altruism is fine - if you have enough money on the bank, that you do not have to work for it. Otherwise you'll starve. The question is not the altruism, but it is:
a) are they defrauding me, b) do they aim for making me do something, I don't want to, c) do they use the GAOTD site to sell me their own products, d) and last but not least, is it useful for me what they are doing. The answers are no, no, no, yes. What they offer to me is far better, than all those absolutely needless comments, like "... I can't use it, therefore it is not good..., bla bla bla". Am I right, that you are not using Google, Facebook & Co. because they are making money with your clicks?

I thought I ought to post the following with respect to one of the suggestions I made in the Idea Informer above: That is that today's giveaway is 'Ridiculously expensive. Reduce the price significantly'.

The developer replied and said the following:

PC Win Booster is a part of Soft4Boost.com package. Register once at soft4boost.com and work with all tools from the Soft4Boost.com package. Subscribe for $24.95/year or $39.95/lifetime. Subscribe for $80 is a mistake. check their website or the answer they gave to my comment above (in the Idea Informer feedback box for a link

I've already posted to apologize to the developer as I'm sure my post which at the moment stands at number 1 will have influenced some community members. I feel bad that I didn't check thoroughly and would like to publicly apologize and hope that the giveaway team will correct the mistake above where they have said it costs $80

50 bucks for a cleaner like this with so many free and better tools out there? Most of GAOTDs' developers here seem to live in another world.

Do you agree with me dudes?

Please Google the following excellent FREE tools as for some odd reasons (filters?) I cannot post any download link today!!

* TOOLWIZ SYSTEM CARE (==> My Personal First Choice)
Terrific FREE PC tune up utility providing you with over 50 effective built-in tools designed to speed up your SYSTEM and make your PC like brand new. Among them there is also the award-winning "Toolwiz Time Freeze" module, which can be downloaded as standalone software as well. Thanks to it, you can deal with any virus, malware and unknown risk without being worried anymore, because it basically creates a sort of VIRTUAL ENVIRONMENT for your system partition through a "sandboxie style", kissing malware (and your wallet) goodbye for good. Best part is that you can enter and exit from this VIRTUAL SYSTEM with a single mouse click, without the need to reboot your PC: COOL, isn't it dudes??

* DiskMax (==> My Personal First Choice)
Pretty unknown but very indeed effective FREE cleanup utility in my view, which makes your PC like brand new again in a few seconds time: simply amazing dudes!!

It provides you with 4 scanning profiles:

- “Quick” mode, to empty the Recycle Bin, remove all related temporary data, browsing information, history and browser cookies in a blink of an eye
- “Standard” mode, the same as above plus removes user accounts data, as well as leftover files from old Windows updates, orphaned Windows installer files, windows logs, multimedia and instant messaging caches etc….
- “Detailed” mode, the same as above plus web browser form data and database optimization, user assist, Windows event logs, deep PC scan, prefetch optimization and more.
- “Complete” mode, the same as above plus Hard Disk defragmentation.

Last time I’ve used it it found over 4 GB of junk missed by other more popular registry cleaners, like the overrated CCLeaner for instance!!

* (Portable) Comodo System Cleaner (==> PCMAG Editor Pick)
* KINGSOFT PC DOCTOR
* JET CLEAN
* PURAN UTILITIES
* (Portable) SLIM CLEANER – SlimWare Utilities
* FREE Windows Tuner
* Portable GLARY UTILITIES + Glarysoft Registry Repair
* CLOUD SYSTEM BOOSTER 2.0

Enjoy!!

My 0.000002 cents for today's giveaway!!

I've been scanning for duplicate files since 08.20am this morning with no indication how far it is from completing and its still scanning. It's now 12.23pm, that's over four hours to scan 2.250GB SSI's, 1 x 4TB spanned drive (includes a 3TB and a 1.5TB Drive) and a 3TB drive

Dear users,

We have contacted developers regarding the activation issue. They are trying to solve server problems and recommend the following:

"Activation occurs on the first run of the product.

Please run an already installed copy of PC Win Booster later. Server experiences a very high load.

We bring all our deepest apologies."

Considering this please download and install the program during the giveaway period. The registration of this product will remain active for some time after the giveaway period is over.

We are sorry for inconvenience.

GOTD team.

@12: Shame on you - not on Ashraf! It's true, that the link in his comment leads you to to dottech.org, not to somewhere but to CCleaner review. Scrolling down, you will find a title "Conclusion and download link" and - at the bottom of this title a download link, which points to Piriform, the developer of CCleaner. A wise advice: Think before you bestride your horse and ride an attack. Having said that, I would like to mention, that guys like Ashraf and Giovanni are for me one of the reasons, to visit the GAOTD page every day.

Yes Mardel53 but why didn't Ashraf just direct us to piriform 'directly' rather than via his site. Seems like he's touting for income by forcing us to go to his site first.
