I used this program to resize my C partition by moving 5 Gig from my D partition. Then when it rebooted it warned me on startup that what I was about to do may be dangerous and prompted a Yes or No. So I selected "No". But now my D drive is no longer accessible. I can see it but it isn't formatted. Is there a way to avoid losing all my D drive data when I reformat? Even worse is that I installed Paragon on the D drive.

does this support ext2/ext3 partitions with greater than 4kbyte block sizes as used in embeded non-x86 linux based NAS boxes and digital personal video recorders?
NAS boxes and digital personal video recorders use network connection for file transfer, therefore geometry and file system of the disks inside these devices do not matter.

So, my problem is that I was forced to uninstall old version in order to continue with installation. But then when I tried to install again, I was forced to reboot first, then try again. Rebooting caused many Windows Updates to finish installing, and by the time I finally got back online I was past the deadline.
So now, I not only can't install this version, but I've uninstalled my older, working version.
Sucks for me!!!

I know the giveaway for this is over, i hope someone sees this. I noticed that my comments, which said that I STILL needed help from Paragon tech support, didn't get approved until 2 minutes after the giveaway was over. I was angry before, now I am quite livid. How are they supposed to help with my problem when it takes GAOTD TEN HOURS to approve my comment saying i still needed help?

#12 Giovanni - Regarding Partition Wizard by MiniTool, JUST BE CAUTiOUS with releases from v7.7 onwards because:

instead of resizing a partition using the Move/Resize function

The User is now supposed to use the NEW "EXTEND" function instead.

There was sod-all warning unless you had a really good look on the website for release updates/changelog info.

BUT apart from that it is a really useful program - not perfect, but then again what is, especially when it cost the user not even 1 cent and they even provide support!

When the installation requires visiting the company website, if the registration process works only on Explorer, it would be nice to know. I normally use Mozilla Firefox on my XP pro system, and it took me half an hour to figure out that I had to use IE to obtain the registration. Please include this browser information in the readme file instructions.

At the Version 12 Home Special Editonm installation, the setup process detected the version 11 and stopped and demanded that the previous version be deleted/removed by using add/remove blah...
Got the product key and S/N.

Can I back up the system prior to do this, can I wait (because giveaway showed that the version 12 is installed now and went to the GOTD website) despite the fact it is not. GOTD gave me a dialog box claiming that the Version 12 HOme Special Edititon.

Will that work if it is going to be installed again after the giveaway is over with the product key and s/n.

Don't want to loose the version 11 or the version 12 and get caught in between...

Please help.

Thanks.

Why is this taking over 20 minutes to download the zip file.?
Just wondering! It increases by .1 MB. At 53.5/134MB it still had 16 minutes to download. At 85.1 it still had 10 minutes to download. Very slow download on Windows 8.

Although it's listed as Version 12, it's actually Version 10; 10.1.19.16240(22.11.12) @ 141Mb also, called Version 12. Previous Version 12, I installed in Oct 2012, was version 10.1.19.15721(04.05.12) @ 150Mb. Haven't noticed any difference yet. If it's Version 10 they should say so.

I agree with Rob (#8): Let's keep the conversation here and not at another site. Give your impressions, test results, opinions and final verdicts here and not at your own money-making site. I realize that folks are making money off advertisements on their site, which is all predicated on the number of visitors to their site, and so it is advantageous to try to get folks to your site, but do it in your signature as GOTD provides, not by trying to steal folks here to your site to get your opinions and final verdict. Personally, I don't go to those sites to read their reviews - I'd rather read the comments here to make my decision.

Since I see that Paragon is monitoring comments here... I'll ask the Paragon folks AGAIN...

You HAVE to straighten out your product naming and versioning ASAP. You've got the 2013/Free/Compact/Home/Special/Pro/etc editions, and a version 11 name may actually be a version 10 software. AND you should note that with each Paragon GOTD, there a ALWAYS TONS of questions regarding differences between this version and that.

The company and the software may be great, but the confusion caused by your product naming is TOTALLY WRONG.

To #31 (Don)

Who is whining - apart from you, that is? You are also being gratuitously offensive.

Perhaps you have some difficulty comprehending simple English, otherwise you would have noticed that Paragon's 'Registration received' page said that one would receive the required information within 15 minutes; if not received in that time, one was to check one's Spam folder but if it was not there either that one had to do something about it. So I did, in this thread, and those very helpful people in Paragon's support department responded above by asking me to contact them direct. I did, and received the requisite information by return of my email. Fortunately they were more able than you to understand simple English and willing to respond courteously and efficiently, which is why I took the trouble subsequently to thank them in this thread.

Ive been using Paragon Disk Manager since 2009 and love the software. I know its a different program suite, but it shares similar functions with today's giveaway. It's saved my bacon more than once. Sometimes hardware upgrades, sometimes hardware failures, and sometimes my own stupidity, but it just works. I'm getting ready to upgrade (likely when the 2013 version comes out). As a suggestion to Paragon, if you offer a special sale coupon when you do this type of giveaway there are those of us who will spend and upgrade. Hint. Hint.

#11 are you really whining that it's taking awhile for your license code? It's free! If you want them to get it to you faster you could PAY for the professional version. It kills me when people complain about petty issues when they are getting the software for free! Quit your whining!

My comment addresses both the software and the company. I had a previous giveaway's edition of the software and when I ran it, it showed my D:\Data Drive as "Invalid". I queried Paragon on this and even though it was a freebie and after the giveaway had ended, they responded to me.

The bottom line was that Windows was allocating more space in the individual partitions than the total size of the disk (partition 1 + partition 2 = more than the total size of the disk)! They explained how this had happened and, more importantly, how to fix the problem; all without putting my data at risk.

Though I have used other partitioning software before, I can attest to the validity of Paragon's software and the company's commitment to the user, all based on my actual, real world experience with the company. Theirs was the only software to detect the problem with my data drive, and they fixed the problem for me. I owe them a debt of gratitude, and hence my comment on, and recommendation of, today's software offering.

1) How is this different from Paragon Partition Manager™ 11 Personal Special Edition, which I downloaded from GAOTD in Sept. 2011 ??

Partition Manager 12 is the latest and, therefore, the most up-to-date version of the product with Windows 8 support.

2) Does this one do the weird “alignment” to 4,096 for SSD or hybrid HD-SSD that I don’t understand?

Yes, it does. This new alignment type was not present in Partition Manager 11.

I realise that you were trying to be helpful when you replied to my previous (#11), saying: But I doubt you checked the Spam filter/folders on your e-mail provider’s servers. :)

However, my ISP does not filter out stuff from Paragon as I regularly receive emails from them and their eparagon service - what's more, I've just received another 2 from their helpful Support Service with the necessary information and another from their eparagon service with the same info. So obviously it was just a glitch somewhere in cyberspace - perhaps even a Black Hole (woo-hoo).

#2: "i am following the readme file. i got my serial and registration info, i click on the install product on the install manager, and all that happens is my screen flashes. I cannot seem to install it. Running an AMD ASUS 64 bit processor with windows 7 ultimate x64."

With Paragon apps running the GOTD setup.exe normally expands the Paragon setup files in the user Temp folder -> that runs & gives you various options, normally to prepare a boot disc, install the app etc. *IF* I understand correctly that 2nd stage is where you're having problems -- *if* that's the case you can try drilling down into the Paragon files/folders in the user Temp folder, finding the actual installation .msi file, & run that. Note that those files/folders will be deleted once the Paragon setup routine runs its course & there's no need for them any longer, but if/when something goes wrong they can be left in place, so if you do install from the .msi file you'll probably want to clear the user Temp folder manually when you're done.

#10: "I have a Ubuntu Linux OS 64 bit dual booting with Windows 7. I’d like to delete this partition, leaving the existing Windows 7. Would this tool allow me to remove it and recover the free space?"

Yes. Do remember though that win7 will use a small, hidden partition to store it's boot files, or in the case of dual booting a couple of Windows OSes, those files will be placed on the 1st partition -- AFAIK you can do fine without having those boot files on another partition as long as you're not using BitLocker, but obviously you need those files to start win7.

If those files go missing when you remove the *nix partition, you might do a win7 repair install, but the way I handle that sort of thing is using EasyBCD [free for home use from Neosmart], which will run portably after booting to a generic LiveXP or WinPE boot disc or USB device [see reboot.pro for info on those]. Or you might install EasyBCD, format the *nix partition, then run EasyBCD to make sure win7's bootable before you restart it -- if the boot files are missing they were stored on the *nix partition, & EasyBCD can put them back wherever.

That said, I don't use partition apps to move partitions -- only to expand, copy, & otherwise manage them. Stuff happens, so before moving the data in a partition you should perform a full partition image backup, e.g. using one of Paragon's backup apps. Well, once you have that backup you don't need to use the partition app to move anything -- in a situation like yours I'll delete the 1st partition, or re-format & seriously shrink it, delete the 2nd partition, then using the boot disc restore that partition backup I just made to the 1st available free space. A side benefit is it can be faster -- by necessity you're reading/writing to the same drive when you move a partition, but a backup archive can be stored most anywhere -- reading from one drive, writing to another can be seriously faster.

* * *

#11: "Hmmm, 20 minutes since I got their ‘Thank you for your registration’ message but still no email with the product key and serial – And there’s nothing in my spam folder either!"

But I doubt you checked the Spam filter/folders on your e-mail provider's servers. :)

You would have a LOT more spam if providers didn't filter out stuff before it made it to your inbox, but a side effect is you miss getting some stuff you want. If on a GOTD offer you don't get a fast response with your serial # or key, try another e-mail service. We have Roadrunner, which has some filtering controls you can set for your account(s), but even turning all that stuff off, I frequently have to re-register for a number using my gmail address.

* * *

#12: "Another nice option is the one which enables you to replace the current MBR (Master Boot Record) of your system with the default one: this is a very useful feature if you run a PC with 2 different OS in dual boot and suddenly decide to roll back to the original system setting."

IMHO Please be careful with that sort of thing -- stuff can happen that can be a PITA to fix. I highly recommend using a Paragon backup app to create a backup image of the first disk track -- it only takes up a couple/few MB so multiple versions can be easily stored. Even if you never do stuff like multi-boot, a serious malware infection can add it's code to that hidden portion of the disk, & without that backup the only cure is reformat & start from scratch.

* * *

#17: "Gparted is the best and easiest to use partition manager there ever was. And has always been free."

Nothing wrong with GParted but you don't mention it's a *nix app. http://gparted.sourceforge.net/

Nothing wrong with *nix either, but most Windows users prefer running Windows apps in Windows. There are operations where Paragon Partition Manager will need you to re-boot, but not for everything the way they'd have to with GParted on a *nix Live CD/DVD.

Win 8. Got key, installed, tried to run and nothing but a brief cursor circle. Uninstalled previous free partition manager and this one. Re-booted. Did the install again and still just the brief cursor circle and then nothing.

Try opening different wizards manually from the folder C:\Program Files\Paragon Software\Partition Manager 12 Home Special Edition\program. For example, the files createonepart.exe or formatpart.exe. If some external storage devices are connected, disconnect them and try launching the Partition Manager again.

This is undoubtely one of the BEST PARTITION MANAGER software I ever used so far.

TWO GREAT FEATURES which are worth downloading:

a) the ability to select two adjacent partitions in order to redistribute free space, by making one larger and the other one smaller.

b) the ability to create Linux-based bootable media (supports Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X file systems), meaning you can gain access to the HDs of your machine even if your system for any reason doesn't bootup anymore.

Another nice option is the one which enables you to replace the current MBR (Master Boot Record) of your system with the default one: this is a very useful feature if you run a PC with 2 different OS in dual boot and suddenly decide to roll back to the original system setting.

However the awesome freeware "EasyBCD Community Edition" does the same thing and even more for FREE:

So overall I give this GAOTD 2 THUMBS UP for the PARTIONING side, but a THUMBS DOWN for the SYSTEM BACKUP basic options this software can provide (only full backups are supported)

Tutorial GParted:

It runs from a CD, so no install is required; however, if you wish to, you can also create a bootable Live (Linux-based) USB drive for it, thus without burning any CD, using the excellent freeware "UNetbootin":

Partition Recovery
Move/Resize Partition

As far as I know this is the only FREEWARE providing you with a Bootable CD/DVD & Bootable Version even for 64 bit OS: just burn the ISO file (see link below) onto a CD using any CD/DVD Burner software (ImgBurn for instance)

Please note that although the free Home version doesn't allow for merging partitions, the bootable ISO does!!

As for the BEST FREE PC BACKUP solution, my recommendation goes to the following two magic FREE tools, which are FAR BETTER & MORE COMPREHENSIVE TOOLS compared to today's giveaway:

http://www.aomeitech.com/aomei-data-backuper.html
http://www.fbackup.com

The first tool mentioned above can even restore individual files and folders from a backup image file without being forced to recover the entire backup. In addition to that, this awesome software also supports HD and Partition cloning operations, which can be very handy if your main intent is just to upgrade/replace/migrate your old HD to a new one (SSD supported).
And listen all!! It even provides you with a LINUX BOOTABLE DISK EDITION completely FREE of charges, which helps you recover files outside Windows making possible to backup & restore your entire system (HD, Partitions, Apps settings, Operation System etc...) even if Windows no longer bootup in anymore: how cool is that??

http://www.aomeitech.com/download-iso.html

The second FREE software mentioned above (FBackup) uses ZIP64 compression (meaning it can create zip files over 2GB in size) and, unlike most (paid and free) backup software out there, it's capable of making a mirror without creating unnecessary folders.
And as far as I know it's also the only free backup software out there supporting BACKUP PLUGINS for specific program settings.

Here there's a list of over 100 different plugins ready to be used:

Enjoy!!
