This is NOT an SEO Submitter for Search Engine Optimization and submission -- it merely brings your "announcement" email to the attention of people who publish such announcements.

This is also NOT a "re-distributor" in that the programmers do NOT offer to distribute your announcement email -- that's what the software promises to do ... if you ever get a license. (The first target in their list is THEM as a TEST, not as a source of redistributing your announcement email for you.)

Google will NEVER update on demand, they may take a week or more to re-find any site they think is interesting and refreshed, and only then will Google re-index that site, so your announcement email has to go through many hoops before it lands on a Google search:

-- received by someone who can republish it

-- they republish it

-- Google re-searched the re-publisher's web site (if ever!)

-- THEN, you search Google with the proper terms to find your announcement

-- AND you scroll down the results to find your announcement in the list of appropriate responses to your search terms -- you may be #1, #1, #100, or #1,000, you have NO CONTROL!

We could simply make a broadcast email sent to all the "re-publishers" who we find around the web who offer to republish the kind of stuff we want to announce (art opening, the birth of our grandchild, a new widget for 1/2 price, we are running for president, we found a lost wallet with a million dollars in it, yada, yada).

I imagine the developers built this tool FOR THEMSELVES to submit their TECH software to TECH sites, and then someone in the building said, "... why not release this tool to the public? ..." -- yet it seems to have NOT gotten any more development and appears to me as (un)sophisticated as an in-house tool used by the programmer geeks themselves (no offence intended).

CAPTCHA wise, if it works -- I only saw it work on THEIR OWN SITE! -- then it's clever and valuable, and THAT would be a great stand-alone tool.

As mentioned before ... oh, see my own #17 above -- I NEVER got a license, so ...

And another search to see if *any* ‘advertisements’ actually appear in Google (keeping traditions, I made the article subject quite unique;).

Now, 22 hours after posting there is still nothing showing up in Google.
This must mean that all "succesful" posts must have been moderated away with.

Giovanni, glad you decided to spam our forum again xxx

Like #15 I found this application quite baffling. Not only does it insist on direct submissions instead of RSS, but one really has very little control over where your "news" is published.

As it is, I can only characterize this as a spam disseminator. That's not the way I want to promote anything.

Maybe I have been missing something here, but if there are better behaved ways of implementing this, I certainly didn't discover it... and I'd love to hear about them.

Win XP Sp 3 installed ok , accept that it instals to the c drive and does not give you the option to instal where you want it , which is a bit bad nowadays and the developers should correct it.

For some reason it installed Microsoft soap, what ever that is, which does give you the option where to instal it.

I don't have any news to publish yet, so without that I cannot try the prog out. Their website gives sample of news submissions such as Employee hired or employee fired ; not exactly in the same category as Freddy Starr ate my hamster , or Double Decker bus found on the moon!

Installed, spent a frustrating 30 minutes fighting with a UI from hell that kept replacing my data with placeholders, requires the release to be really short, only to reach the last page where it only lets me select one place to submit without going through yet another registration process. After reviewing the list of press locations it offered, I determined this was going to be a waste of time anyway... not one of the 100 (really? Seemed fewer) on their list was one I would have gone out of my way to include.

Uninstalled. Encouraging idea, poor execution, worse selection.

ok, i installed and went through the steps. It submits to "one" website? Now if you buy it at a monthly service fee, it will submit to others. so therefore this is not a giveaway but a tease. Nice idea, but sorta stingy in both promotion and test driving the software. As such i would not recommend it to anyone for review. Give me the full version and i will give a full review.

What is the idea of software that put YOU on the top 100 list when 1000+ other users have the same program or similar programs ?

Being on the top isn´t always the best solution when you like to reach more customers... What is a onetime customer compared to a regular customer ?

When you search, do you then look for the price first or the service you get for the price ? Anyways, most customers like low prices, but they also like a good service too, so be on the top is more than a onetime search for the "top 100" !

I am surprised it can identify many capcha images. One big reason for creating capcha was to PREVENT automatic account creation. The capcha image is supposed to be very difficult for a computer to read. This program can be used by honest people in a positive way. But I personally consider auto capcha reading unethical.

As a former reporter and also former full-time public relations professional myself, I know press releases can be wonderful tools. AS LONG AS THEY OFFER RELEVANT INFORMATION the publication or news station or blog will want to share themselves. Especially if it's something special or exciting that will relate to their audiences! It also helps if they are very well written themselves, so the recipient can use the story submission as is, if they wish.
Just please don't use it to spam ads or other information useless to recipients, or it won't do you or anybody else any good anyhow :)

Very Unorganzied software, Downloaded and installed ok but was not a registered version even thought the Key Wrapper said Activated. Complicated to set up with way to many steps. The concept is a good idea. The software to activate fully requires a $18.99 Monthly Subscription and this version will only send your news article to 1 website. See Screen Shot Below.

Good points. Let me try to add a few more:

- Claiming to be able to bypass a CAPTCHA system either makes them look incredibly stupid for not capitalizing on it within the spamming community, or like they aren't telling the truth. If it's the latter, ultimately nothing is actually being submitted to CAPTCHA controlled sites.

- The creation of any CAPTCHA bypass software would simply be adopted by the people who are the reason we have to type CAPTCHA's to begin with - the spammers. Desirable sites with web forms will become more complicated to manage and security firms will continue to invent an even more annoying system that is not as easily defeated by a free giveaway program such as this one.

- Some people mentioned fees of $20 per month for the service. If this was the case, then aren't they just re-submitting the same releases to the same websites every month? And if they are, wouldn't these agencies quickly learn to ignore your product entirely? Nobody opens the fifth penis enlargement email.

- Plain and simple, this program allows you to basically spam the 100 agencies in the list linked to in comment 12 above - and hope General Electric or Toyota's public relations departments haven't come up with something more interesting and newsworthy than what you've got. If that's what you want to try to do, go for it but remember...

- ...If it actually does work as promised, it's existence has already been announced to all the agencies thanks to comment 12 above. Do you think they're going to be happy about finding out their CAPTCHA system they specifically implemented -- because they do not want automated submissions -- has been defeated by a company who now will do specifically that, and by the way, wants something from them - mainly for them to publish your news release? I'm sure they'll get right to it. By the time the hundredth penis enlargement ad arrives you're just pissed.

Says it is free but unlike most of the downloads here you get a key to activate. This one charges you and makes it an upgrade. At least this is what it seems to be. If that is the case this is free offer is a marketing tool in itself. If I am wrong and missed the key somewhere let me know. Would like to use this tool but not if I have to pay monthly for it.

I think the activation server is bugging up. The developer quite frankly didn't anticipate the number of people downloading, and their server has blocked activation. Hence the program still telling you to register when you close the app (which is annoying).

Great exploration and sharing, #2 "devnullius" -- thank you very much.

I notice that the program is NOT registered, and it only offers to register me when I click on a news site to contribute / send to, then it takes me to a web page asking for $19 or $20.

This is NOT FREE?!?

This is NOT a GIVEAWAY Of The Day?

And note the constraints:

Strictly non-commercial usage !!!

Seriously?!?

Let me see now ... this is a broadcast press-release software enabler that permits us to tell the world that we have a ... NON-commercial announcement to make?

"Hello world, PLEASE do NOT spend any money on me, but I have something urgent and exciting to tell you all anyway, details to follow ..."

Get real! =8^o

"non-commercial" in deed!

I wrote an email to Soft Solutions asking them to make good on their offering here since I cannot get the supposedly "free" version to register.

Click the [ Register ] button in the top left corner of any screen but the opening 4-button row, and get the same inability to register.

I do not think the 100 sites will be overwhelmed today because:

(a) the software probably does not work for most of us (me, at least), and

(b) we're not ready to waste time on a non-commercial press release -- and what for?!?

Others have noted that on-screen buttons overlap, and that may be an error of programming that depends on a computer system's default fonts and screen + / - "magnification" -- programmers should avoid depending on defaults.

My display shows the program without overlapping.

Yet, I object to any program that cannot work at any user-chosen pixel dimensions across and down, as, invariably, I either want to see more on my big screen; or on a smaller screen, a program hangs off the edge and I cannot see it's controls.

I also want to cut and paste anything I see, especially scrolling lists, and this does not let me export the list of sites, nor does it promise to allow me to add my own sites as time wears on.

I note, though, that the ONLY time you can see what the submission web sites are all about is AFTER you click [ Start Submission ], then the list gets populated with additional descriptions, like, "... Internet ...", or "... Technology Marketing ..." and so on.

But if we have a political, personal, art, automotive, food, or other type of press-release broadcast to make, how would we build our own function-related list of press-release-receiving sites, instead of accepting Soft Solutions "technology" defaults?

That is, even if we could get the offered version to work at all?

Click!
Love and hugs,
Peter Blaise

PS -- devnullius, let me offer an alternative to your provocative quote. Google and other translations suggest:

Cuiusvis (sp) hominis est errare, nullius nisi insipientis in errore perseverare

Attributed to Marcus Tullius Cicero

"Any one can err, but only the unwise err persistently."
"Any man can make a mistake, only a fool keeps making the same."
"Anyone can err, but only the fool persists in his fault."
"Any man can make a mistake, but only the unwise persists in his fault." (insipientis = unwise; sapientia = wisdom)

Also, Errare humanum est perseverare diabolicum

It's hard to say how many of the websites you're submitting to have already blocked these. Press releases in general have become somewhat useless as everybody does them now. So there's no way to know how effective the program really is.

Although you are spamming sites, it's typically those that get multiple e-mails from the same source that tend to be the problem.

The best technique is to send individual e-mails to properly researched e-mail addresses.

Very probably, one of the most baffling apps ever offered on GAOTD. Points to note if you're thinking of downloading and trying:

1) This isn't a news publisher. It's a Press Release submitter, of which there are countless numbers on the Net, including many that are free.

2) Because 'News Publisher' doesn't publish anything at all it cannot guarantee that anyone else will. And even if some obscure, shoddy, no-cost 'news publishing' site somewhere accepted a submission via this GAOTD app, such a site will not, and cannot, optimise it for search engine ranking. . . so you might just as well have not bothered making any effort in the first place.

3) 'News Publisher' and its quoted Softpedia Editor's 5-star Excellent Award must've come as a surprise to Softpedia. But perhaps this 'News Publisher' app was used by, er, this 'News Publisher' developer to issue news of the award and Softpedia hasn't gotten round to reading it yet.

4) Any software, or any website, that talks of 'Press Releases' -- as this one does -- demonstrates only a comical ignorance of that with which it professes to be familiar. Press Releases were last sent out in the days before TV news. Only idiots and amateurs would ever submit to a TV Newsdesk, editorial copy seemingly intended only for publishing via a printing press. The last employee in my company to use the term 'Press Release' instead of 'News Release' was soon out the door. And that was 14 years ago.

To sum up: News Release submission software is commonplace. That none of it is worth bothering with, free or paid-for, is explained by the fact that media organisations and their staff do not spend their lives, combing through cheap junk websites purporting to "publish" editorial of journalistic interest.

Instead -- though only when days are long, boring, and empty (perhaps twice a year) -- they might refer to the digests from majors like PR Newswire (fee to client: up to $1,100 per news release dissemination) or, in the United Kingdom, PR Web (client fee: up to £200 per News Release.)

At the end of the day, if you've a story to tell, it will sell itself / communicate itself if it's newsworthy enough. Alternatively, you'll use a consultancy that does it for you because its staff are from the very media you're trying to access and they know the editors, news editors and features editors in ways no online website or online submission vehicle can ever hope to emulate. But then, they do charge $200 an hour for their services. . .

Thanks, then, GAOTD for today's offer, but what with its misleading title, mysterious 'excellence' award, and an all-too obvious lack of familiarity with how news is actually disseminated, I can't see why the developer is even bothering to produce this app -- still less why anyone should waste their time with it as a free-today or paid-for tomorrow. . .

I used the program to promote today's giveaway.

I skipped the email verification sites.

Also, sometimes the captcha recognition will fail. The program will continue automatically if you do not manually type the captcha. You could try in a second round. The program works smart this way.

I saw 2 page not found 404's - there might be more: I mostly just set and forgot about it ; ) Most sites seem to work fine.

I could export the successful results - I posted the html file here: http://minus.com/mbcgoKqC7K/ . A few posts seem to have made it.

Now for the test if Google finds the posts...

Up until now? No. Which means, the top sites aren't that top according to Google ;p I will keep looking here...

My advise to the makers of this program... I think you tried to find another income for your OCR recognition software? For this is what truly surprised me of this program: the auto-captcha recognition feature!! Many professional spammers would love to have this feature as a standalone product. And frankly, so would I! For I think I digitized enough books to last my a lifetime... And some of them are really impossible to solve ;p This kind of product would be NICE to have alongside Ad Muncher's ad blocking system and give me back the internet as it was for me in 1995...

So thank you and peace!

News Publisher is very business oriented. Because of this, I never got to complete all the settings. When I finished the program, I was linked to a page. "Register News Publisher," according to the page News Publisher costs about $ 20 a month. A little I began to wonder now, are we given lite version for free for a month? "The program is available for $ 18.99, but it Will Be free for our visitors as a time-limited offer." It's a monthly charge. Could be good and know what today's gift is really about.

Well, you can call it a mass-spammer, true, but I was seeing in it something useful to post news and scientific research data.
My use of the software would have been of genuine nature, not to spam.

But this software is as I said above, a huge BLUNDER!!!!

1. If I owned one of those 100 top sites, I'd be looking for a way to block post from such a program.
2. To add insult to injury, GaotD does not allow software to be installed for business use. (so how do we test this without ticking off the top 100).

I can't see how testing this will help the developer without hurting his project and/or reputation.

Thus, testing this software seems futile.

@devnullius:

For what it's worth, the "Top 100 News Websites" list can be found - and copied to the clipboard - by clicking the product link above and scrolling down to the section called "Sample submission reports" (right above the download button on the site).

The sample reports look like images, but they are PDFs. You can select the text and copy it to your clipboard. The reports include the names of all 100 sites.

I've never heard of any of them, either, and I consider myself fairly aware of these things.

I chose not to install or try this software for that reason and because of devnullius' (always) excellent review.

Wait, so the software is free just like it is on your website, but it requires a monthly subscription to use it effectively (basically, the whole point of using it)?

During the third step (Create Login ID), a window prompt opens which says that I only have the "trial" version of this software, and to create an account, it leads me to your registration page, which offers a monthly subscription for 20 bucks a month...

So what's the deal? If this doesn't come with a subscription, how is this offer any different than the version that cab be downloaded from your website?

Today's giveaway is a pretty decent app designed for those who want to increase their online business, by putting their news directly in front of their customers and prospects, and want to have high quality traffic for their websites without paying big bugs for ADS.

However, I doubt that these kind of programs may match the TERM & CONDITIONS of any GAOTD realesed here, such the impossibility to upgrade any GAOTD programs to future versions and the prohibition to use them for commercial purposes).

Besides that, you can also submit your news, press release & business info by using excellent FREE online press release submission services, like:

At first excited for an online marketing tool, I quickly installed.

For registration, you need to create a log-in id. VERY strange is that you cannot just pick a username! It expects at least two numbers?? Also, you internet site must be domain-part only. I guess this is done to prevent problems with already registered user names on the 100 'top' sites... Your password will be visible in the program too.

Now for the fun part :( FOR EVERY 100 "top" sites you need to create an account! The program helps you with this - you don't need to visit all websites.
From News Publisher's website: "Automatically recognizes captcha images.
News Publisher also recognizes captcha images automatically; you do not have to fill captcha images before submission on any of the websites." - this actually works well.

You email address cannot contain "+"-sign.

In short - this program is only for English advertisements. Many of the top-websites are
'just' wordpress blogs and the like. I do not know most of them. Sadly, there is no list available. Only in the program you can see a list of sites - but no way to export this(?).

This program tries to be a 'legit' front-end to a kind of software that is considered bad practice. You can call it 'news' - others will call it spam. And that's what this tool is for: posting spam on 100 'top' websites. In the end, all depends on the value of the 100 "top" websites.

If you have a (small) company and throw one of your first stones in the SEO & Online Marketing pool - go ahead, try this program. The auto-captcha make it very convenient and if you have a good value advertisement already lying around... Go ahead and post your 'spam' - you might end up lucky.

Only too bad the 100 sites will be spammed like crazy today due to today's giveaway ;0

Peace!

Devvie

we are deeply sorry for the problem with activation for News Publisher. It should have been a registered version installer and such trouble was not expected at all. Due to weekend we noticed the issue too late, still contacted the Developer at once.

Unfortunately there've been no answer from their side so far. We will be keeping you up-to-date.

Sorry for the inconvenience and have a nice day!
