Asking questions are actually pleasant thing if you are not understanding anything
entirely, except this paragraph provides

This is Aris from Likno Software team.

Hello,

since now we have replied to all emails sent to our SUPPORT with the aim to solve the particular issues you experience with activation.

Again, no one will be left behind! (i.e. without free and working license!)

Now, some answers to comments above:

@87 - Comment by Clive - March 16th, 2011 at 5:08 pm

Your point is absolutely valid and we agree with you, however please note that our applications never require that your security software should be turned off by default. This appears to be needed only to a few users (from thousands of others that successfully install) that use a very sensitive antivirus or a revision of this antivirus that became more sensitive at some point (because some days the same antivirus gives "false positive" and some NOT!). I just wanted to clarify this, but thanks for your valid point.

@89 - Comment by Angela - March 16th, 2011 at 5:39 pm
Our scripts are 100% cross-browser, and they definitely work in all IE (along with Firefox, Safari, Chrome, Opera, etc.). There must be an implementation leftover on your website, can you please email us your website where you uploaded the project so that we can check? Did you uploaded ALL necessary files produced after compilation?

@91 - Comment by wanderer... - March 16th, 2011 at 6:01 pm
Aloha! The software is 100% cross-browser (powered by the popular open source jQuery library). So Opera 11.01 is supported along all other browsers. Mahalos!

@92 - Comment by Scudrunner - March 16th, 2011 at 6:20 pm
I am not sure what you refer to, because the application installed in your PC does not know your email/password at all! Could it be that you are using any 3rd party browser addon that automatically fills your information to fields (from a stored database of this addon)? Because we cannot do this, our software does NOT store any password of yours or other information in your PC.

Mike's comment:
"In my experience VB apps don’t always play nice in win7, or with later versions of .NET, & problems with conflicting versions [& locations] of support files between VB apps are a bit common"
has put me off, though.
If anyone can shed light on this, it would be helpful.
Thanks in advance.

Nice little programme that installed, at least for me, without issues both on XP sp2 and sp3

Be very careful if installing anywhere other than their default directory/folder because, if you install elsewhere and click on 'browse' to get there, their install routine wipes out the directory path so you 'might' install it in the route of your drive - could be messy..

I now know what those annoying "new style" pop-ups are called on so many websites: model windows. I dread to think how many more of these we are now going to get. Has anyone got or know of a "modal window blocker"?

Have been having a good play with the software, and created, saved, and compiled a modal (an automatically loading window with important information that I want my visitors to read before proceeding further); linked it to a page on my website, checked it locally on Firefox - all as expected, so uploaded to web.

Works perfectly on Firefox, but modal not showing up on IE8.

If it doesn't work with both Firefox and IE, then that's a major issue, but I'm hoping that it's just something I've missed in the settings that will make it work.

Maybe one of the Linko team can help/respond?

I fully agree with the message posted above as :-
I think I share the same level of gratitude as everyone else here, for the software GOTD keeps introducing us to..and I’m sure Suzan Doyle and all her colleagues at Likno are honest and dedicated people..but it doe bother me when you go to install something and are told to turn off your security software in order to it..kind of defeats the whole point of installing security on your system in the first place!

Even though this looks like a really nice little gem of a program and very handy for those with a need of such a tool, I think I will give this one a miss..at least until it can be installed on my system without me having to “leave the backdoor open” in order to do so.

I don’t mean to offend GOTD Admin, Suzan or anybody at Likno..I’m just making a valid comment regarding how I feel about this and other programs like it that seem to share the same (..in my view) drawback.

PeterC

I DO NOT load software that requires my antivirus programs to be disabled. This is both bad practice and not how these programs are supposed to function. Software writers should be able to write software that does not give so many false positives to so many virus checking programs.

Hello Craig,

This is Aris from Likno Software team.

My previous comment addressed to you was related to a different issue, so I am not sure if this strange (and unique) problem of yours ("Bad_Pool_Header") will be solved by downloading the application from our website instead of the GOTD page:

http://www.likno.com/jquery-modal-windows/download.php

However can you please try this? Because the GOTD installer may affect the installation of our software in your particular PC.

Please let us know if it worked at support [AT] likno [DOT] com. Thank you.

Hello Craig,

This is Aris from Likno Software team.

Please read a comment we made above for the same issue, I repeat it here:

To anyone that has an “Error 32 while extracting TSU.DLL” during installation (or similar).

This error could be because GOTD wraps our installer into their installer and this may cause some problems in some PC configurations.

The solution to this could be:

Download our installer directly from our website here:

http://www.likno.com/jquery-modal-windows/download.php

The GOTD restrictions (1 day registration) still apply, since the activation is done online.

You may also email us directly at support [AT] likno [DOT] com.

This is Aris from Likno Software team.

You both asked this: "Is the GOTD license a domain license?

The answer is: The free GOTD license that we give you is the full, "Unlimited Domains" License (that costs $75)!
This means that you can create as many modal windows as you wish, for as many websites, blogs, etc. as you wish!

AND we allow business use also.
Only the updates/support is the limitation.

After resolving the "help" (menu versus button) problem, activation was as easy as 123 (win7 64bit).
Not sure whether my knowledge will be sufficient to use the program, but as far as I can see, this is rather a gem. At least I can store it for later use and - as Suzan from Likno has stated, this program in this form (without any upgrades) will be secured for the future as well, even after a potential computer crash. The extension to commercial use is very generous.
This company deserves "fans"!

Sent email but posting to hopefully help others.

I have tried installing repeatedly. Keeps telling me that there is a problem with TOU.dll installing properly.

I am running the following:
Antivirus: Norton's Security Suite
OS: Windows XP Home with SP 3
Browser: FF 3.6.15

Norton's was disabled for this download/install as I had read near all the comments. Still continue to receive same error message.

I am unable to locate this program in the Add/Install area of my Control Panel, nor is it located in Program Files on my Hard Drive.

Any help by GOTD/Likno Web Modal Windows Builder is appreciated. Thank you

Downloaded and installed smoothly on my not so new Windows 7 laptop. It also runs quite well.

Activating the product is also easy, but it does require you to visit their website through the program to get it activated. It was fast enough, just hope they don't send me a bunch of offers as you have to give them your email address.

So for anyone considering it, go for it. Looks like it's a decent program which will come in handy for those of you who run their own sites.

I followed instructions and had no problem installing and activating on Win XP SP3 on Thinkpad G41 (I know - a 7-year-old fossil) laptop, although I have to agree that the registration and activation process deviates quite a bit from the "norm" here on GOTD.

However, the more I think about it, the more I believe that such a contorted registration process may actually be a GOOD idea, because in a roundabout way it tests the ability of the end-user to follow a WRITTEN-OUT set of instructions, or to at least apply some level of logic and thought to what they're doing.

That sort of capability will also be required just to USE Web Modal Windows Builder!

This software appears to be quite powerful in its ability to create "overlays" on web pages, such as "shadowboxes" and "lightboxes" which are frequently accomplished by using the rather bulky and cumbersome method of invoking Flash components with heavy reliance on a third-party web service being up and running in order to function properly.

I'm extremely impressed with the number of "sample" projects that are included in the base install of Web Modal Windows Builder, which - if tallied up collectively - would fetch a pretty good price if they were offered up as a "premium" WP plugin package! Indeed, most of them would only require a minimal amount of customization to be ready to deploy.

People are flocking in droves to php/jQuery/MySQL-based Wordpress as a content management system for creating full-fledged multifunctional websites, including social networks and paid-subscription membership sites. If you're not aware, self-hosted Wordpress is NOT just a simple blog anymore! Web Modal Windows Builder will be EXTREMELY useful for people wishing do develop their own Wordpress plugins, especially if you're already somewhat familiar with the ins and outs of PHP.

Which brings me back to the registration issue and all the complaints about it. I hope that what I'm about to say isn't taken as an insult by some, (but it probably WILL)...

Many - if not all - of the people complaining about not being able to register and activate this software probably won't even be able to understand or use it if they DID somehow manage get it installed and activated!

Web Modal Windows Builder isn't exactly some "one-click, push-button, easy-peasy, done-for-you" type of software. It requires some intermediate-to-advanced level of knowledge about programming, and those of you who are looking for something "quick-and-easy" are probably going to be disappointed by this anyway, claiming it's "too complicated."

However, those of us who are already neck-deep into working with Wordpress on a daily basis are turning handsprings, because we now have a means to create our own custom jQuery-based Wordpress plugins to display content on our WP installs in a manner that's much more appealing than the default methods.

Thank you VERY much, Likno Software, and likewise to GOTD for providing us with this great software, and especially for the quick and courteous (aka PROFESSIONAL) responses to concerns presented here in these comments.

You seldom (if ever) see this level of service offered by the providers of the multitude of video converter and screensaver software so often offered here, which only proves to ME that Likno plans on being around for a long time to come, and that their priorities are in the right place - namely, the satisfaction of their customers, even if they weren't even charged for their copy!

Remember folks - just because something is FREE doesn't mean that it doesn't have any VALUE. Today's offering is proof of that! I strongly recommend getting this if you EVER plan to work with Wordpress or any other PHP/jQuery-based web platforms, on ANY level.

Thanks again,

Hello masclatpete,

This is Suzan from Likno Software team.

We have verified our files that are "virus free", we never had a problem with them. I would say that these warnings are extreme and maybe relate to the application's protection mechanism. These mechanisms usually create "false positives", but they are absolutely fine and harmless.

I've used Likno products in the past and always liked the products and the company. Have been looking at this app for quite a while, but hadn't purchased it yet, so this will give me a chance to check it out without having to worry about a short trial period. I was actually surprised (but happy) to see a Likno product on GotD. Appreciate GotD getting this, and Likno for putting up the offer.

Installed without issue on Vista 32bit, registration was quick and easy (just follow directions), and the program looks great. Will be a couple weeks before I can really check it out, but I'm looking forward to it. As a web developer, you're always looking for 'little extras' to add to websites to impress clients, and this adds another easy tool to the box to do just that. And as mentioned the examples are great to have. Thanks...

I've ignored Comodo's warning of impending doom and succesfully activated the program on Win XP SP3, but on each attempt at using it Comodo asks me to verify if I want to continue as the program is behaving as in a "Typical Buffer Overflow attack". I'm not happy and need re-assurance all is well. What do you say Suzan?

Thank you Likno Software for really good support and presence here!

If this help..
Windows XP Home, SP2.
Help-->Enter Activation Code gave me an error, so I deactivated Avast and COMODO:
(Firewall-Custom Policy,
Defense+ -Disabled,
Sandbox-Disabled).
Re-install (no uninstall before that) Likno Web Modal Windows Builder and Help->Enter Activation Code gave me a window with Installation ID needed in the site of the developer to receive my License(in the site)..

For the use of registering an user account in the site..
I lost my installation/license of other Likno product -AllWebMenus, so now I enter in my account where I can view my License and download the same version I have before, install, etc. ...

#37: "I will be replacing my computer soon. Will the “unique” License code still work when I reinstall the software?"

I registered a new acct when I was on their web page getting the key -- the page I got then said I could install & activate however many more times [3 I think - no short term memory, sorry].

* * *

#51: "I have stopped trying to install it... Setup stops when trying to connect to GOATD checking the activation key , saying it can not connect. Commodo was stopped, Avira Guard inactive (found no way to stop it completely)"

If it helps, the GOTD wrapper connecting to the GOTD servers is separate from any enclosed app &/or its installation/activation. Sometimes it just can't connect, & if/when that happens you might want to just try later in case the problem is their servers or the pipes you use to reach them. That said, if you have a software firewall installed, normally there is a listing of some sort with the rules for each app/process that can have access, or not. Since each day's setup.exe is different it's possible that it can be blocked just one day, either through software or [I hate to say it] user error -- more than once I've clicked block when I should have clicked Allow. [BTW I have McAfee prompt me for each app that wants access, & always click Allow This Time Only so I don't have an ever expanding list of setup.exe files I've allowed in the past.]

This is Suzan from Likno Software team.

John said the following:

"Could not install this product in XP SP3. TSU LOADER: error 32 while extracting TSU.DLL".

If you also have XP SP3, this could be related to the combination of the GOTD wrapper with our own Setup.

We had feedback from users on how to solve this:

"I clicked on the setup.exe file, GOTD screens passed by, and within seconds the error appeared.
To double check the error message, I ran setup again. This time, everything worked perfectly."

Also:

"I got the TSU.dll error in XP Pro. I just closed the popup and ran install again. Worked fine."

The web site & help file both describe Likno Web Modal Windows Builder as a jQuery interface for web site pop-up windows. I got the opinion of someone with pro site design skills, who said it looks like something for those who don't want to learn/work with JavaScript -- he also said that "in his opinion" you only needed more basic JavaScript coding skills to get pop-ups working. WMWB itself does not have a more visually or graphics based GUI, meaning it's not an app where you design how things look, & it takes care of all the code needed to make that happen -- opening the app the first thing you see, front & center is a text box with HTML code. In a nutshell then I'd think WMWB targeted at learning &/or maybe reluctant web masters/designers, who know at least a bit of HTML but would rather not delve into JavaScript if/when they can help it. [jQuery -> jquery.com]

WMWB installation is in a word: involved. Today's GOTD uses InstallMate 7 [tarma.com], & Uniextract will not work with it, so I don't know everything that setup includes... WMWB is a VB [Visual Basic] app, & it both installs necessary VB support files & *when needed* corrects VB registry keys hijacked by previous VB app installs, hinting that it might include a version of the VB runtime install. In my experience VB apps don't always play nice in win7, or with later versions of .NET, & problems with conflicting versions [& locations] of support files between VB apps are a bit common [Microsoft had it's reasons for trying to kill off VB, & some of them were practical]. WMWB also uses UniToolbox code [iconico.com], so along with the VB runtime files added to Windows system folder I got 6 UniToolbox Active X files installed/registered. That combination meant 8.8k new registry entries, though that figure could go higher/lower depending on what VB support files you already have installed etc. The program's folder itself takes up ~8 MB with 223 files, 29 folders, & an InstallMate folder is placed under All Users App/Application Data. FWIW the pop-up window for activation crashed once for me, & afterward I found a couple of instances of ie8 still running -- canceled with Task Mgr. WMWB didn't seem to have any unusual dependencies or resource demands running Process Explorer [Sysinternals at Microsoft.com].

If it helps at all re: prob with LiknoWebModalWindowsBuilder.dll... I've not used that many AV apps/suites, but most of those I have used allowed you to exempt an individual file from scans &/or flag it as good so the AV stuff wouldn't quarantine or delete it. The procedure more often than not wasn't explained well in the docs or help files, & it could involve digging down a bit into the AV software windows. Also there should be 2 keys in the HKCR section of the registry, + 2 more in HKLM -- with win7 64 I've had to run more than a few apps as admin to get them to read [or write] keys in HKLM, & I've occasionally had to make sure HKLM keys were in both regular & Wow64 sections. As far as Active X files go, I still use the now almost ancient regdrop.exe, though in 7 64 it only works with 32 bit files & I have it set to run as admin. [In 7 64 running regsvr32 manually has sometimes required a command window opened as admin, navigating to the file's folder before calling regsvr32 complete with its path. Also remember that win7 64 has 32 & 64 bit versions with the same name.]

Id like to thank Likno again for not only giving their programs away here but providing support also. I Hope that they can ignore some of the frankly ignorant and childish comments here and return in future. As a musician i used a previous offering of theirs to have moving piano notes for the menus on my web site. Allwebmenus is excellent with a good manual. I installed and activated modal windows on XP service pack 3 in a few minutes. Once installed copy the web page adress http://www.likno.com/m/36/GOTD1603 into your browser and go there. Next in the program click help then click enter activation code. Highlight your installation code BEFORE you click copy and then paste it into the box on the web page. Then copy the activation code that will appear and paste it into the program. Job Done.

FWIW, I was able to install the program on windows XP-sp3 with Norton not-deactivated without any problems. The instructions about going to help-> enter registration in the readme are a little confusing but thanks to the comments here I got it to work first shot.

The key is to choose help from the program's windows menu bar [projects, view, tools, addins, HELP] not the Icon toolbar [new, open, save, ..., links, help]

I hope this helps someone register more easily...
Thanks GotD and Linkno for this giveaway.

Chuck
