It IS portable.

I installed it to "My Documents" and then copied the "LeaderTask" folder to my thumb drive and ran it on other computers, which allowed me to update my personal ToDo list at work, at my girlfriend's house, etc. I think the only thing that might be missing is registration of file types, that sort of thing. Not a problem.

I used to check this site every day. It has become worthless. Freeware is now listed on other sites. It used to publish software to promote the other works of the developers.....now I find no worth of my time.

I notice that all the screenshots shown are for the "expert" version which is plainly quite different from today's giveaway. Seems to be a certain lack of honesty here.

For most people, this is of cause useless
without Email. And as another reader pointed out
earlier, the features found in
this offer are already
available in Outlook and Windows Live.
LeaderTask sync service is a ripoff.
You can sync via Live and that's all free for everyone.

The other issue I have is, the interface color scheme
is way off limit what my eyes can take without getting seizures.

Uninstalled
all thumbs down

(3rd followup)

OK, I went ahead and ran what is usually the uninstaller file “unins000.exe” in the LeaderTask program folder (in a foreign language, so I could not read the messages), and it appeared to run as a normal one would, progress bars and all.

However, nothing was actually removed and the program continues to run as an application registered to "giveaway". Odd. I normally have no issues installing dozens of GOTD offers and others.

Maybe I'll simply keep it as is, unless a re-release later today fixes some of these issues...

There's really no point to linking it to Outlook... If you have Outlook, you have every one of its features already. Authors, give us something *different*. Stop trying to sell us things we already have.

(another followup)

Installed on a Windows XP Home system. As another commenter said, this did not create any shortcuts, either on the desktop nor anywhere under ...Start Menu\Programs\LeaderTask , so I created my own Start Menu folder and shortcuts.

Also it defaulted on my system to install directly under the root of C: drive as follows:

C:\\LeaderTask

I would rather it default to install as:

C:\Program Files\LeaderTask

I used the Administrator account to install, and it ran fine under that account; however, it would not properly launch (error message dialog box) under any other user account. I did a machine restart and the alternate-user-account problem persisted.

I then intended to attempt to uninstall then reinstall it using a non-admin-privilege account to see if that would make any difference with it running under other user accounts. However, when I tried using Revo Uninstaller (or Windows own Add/Remove Programs), it was not listed.

I found what is usually the uninstaller file "unins000.exe" in the LeaderTask program folder, but when I double-click/launched it the dialog box that appeared was not in English (Russian, maybe?). I suspect it was asking whether it was OK to proceed with the uninstallation -- another wrinkle.

The built-in version updating is expired/disabled for this GOTD edition, although it is set to check for updates by default which shows a version 7.4.0.2 already available. Does that correct any of these issues?

Again, seems to be a nice program that is unfortunately plagued by installation issues which likely justifies the low-scoring initial-impression ratings of previous GOTD offer days. I'm surprised they haven't addressed these issues by now -- maybe they need to outsource that portion of their application development to another programmer if they want to increase sales.

Just started looking for something like this for my office staff - keep them and me organized :)

However due to being only able to look at what it can do rather than trying-out what it can do; has left me looking for an alternative. The GAOTD is completely useless without full functionality. Do you get full functionality in the trial version?

Oh, what's that I hear calling, AnyTime Organizer 2012....

(a followup to my previous comment)

Reviewing (for myself) the previous times LeaderTask was offered here on GOTD for what I claimed were "mostly good review" comments, I see that the percentage approval was actually quite low. I wondered why I recalled an impression that this was any good.

So I reviewed and noted that most of those comments were complaining about earlier more "candy-like" color schemes, or one time when the default install was in Russian, etc. Only a minority addressed the actual functionality of the program.

Filtering out that sort of fluff and the usual "get this better one for free" comments that offer no justifications, LeaderTask seems a quite competent application that, like any complex software package, would take most people a reasonable amount of time to appreciate (or despise) before posting a fair comment.

Also, for those of you who do not know what it's for, simply click the link next to "Publisher" in the info box near the top of this page and you will see all the previous times this has generously been given away here on GOTD with mostly good reviews.

Thanks, Almeza, for this updated version!

I am surprised to find the overwhelmingly negative comments and rating regarding this offering. I first got Leadertask from GAOTD at least three years or four years ago, and have been quite happy with the program - to the point that I actually purchased it. The only program from GAOTD that I have been totally happy with to this extent.

I have used this program primarily for its thorough task and project management capabilities. I especially like the fact that this is a portable program that you can run from a flash drive. Better yet, I can run the program from my Dropbox folder and have it available at multiple computers that I work from.

I have found the program to be incredibly well-supported over at least the last three years - regular updates and bug fixes; quick response to email queries from their customer support staff; and, a very active community forum for questions and suggestions regarding use of the program.

I don't know why Malwarebytes would identify this as malware, but my personal experience has never led to a problem with the program.

I personally think that EssentialPIM sucks in comparison to Leadertask.

I cannot comment regarding using the program as a mail client, because I have never used this feature.

Overall, for my purposes, this program has been quite useful and undeserving of the criticism it is getting here. I would highly recommend it.

don't see many reported installs yet, so I'll report past experience with this program which was that it did not behave properly, so I had to uninstall it. Needless to say, I don't plan to repeat the exercise. Sorry, I don't remember all the gory details, just bottom line summary. It may be a good company, but they sure stubbed their toe when they mention 3 times in the short description above that it has email client when all the reports from users are that it does not include that. For this reason alone, I would give them a bad grade on today's offering. In other contexts, namely actually buying something for money, such a maneuver would be called a "bait and switch" and be prohibited either by law or regulation or at least by honest business ethics. Shame on them.

Running Windows Vista & Xp
Downloaded and installed fine. Also Registered ok. This particular program is good for those who need a personal information Manager. Leader Task has alot of Options for organizing your personal or business information. As it has a Calender, project manager, Notes etc, this particular version as already mentioned Lacks email capibility. Again I am sure some will mention other freeware programs that have can do all that Leader task can do plus have functioning email.

I see nothing wrong with leader task today and looks to be a great program and will suite to serve some needs I am sure.
Because of the Watered down demo Version I would not give this particular download a full thumbs up.

This next Blurb is for the Sysops of GOTD. I have been a Loyal Fan of the site for many Years and enjoy comming to your website Daily for the software given away here. Some days we have been given some real Gems from here and I have truly appreciated the Free Giveaways.

Some days we get some really not so great software being that it has been a watered down special versions made for this site or away to market software with some Hitch or catch to it.

I think the People who have created this project GOTD have fallen a little short of their original Vision and have to take a step back and rethink about what is being offered on the GOTD website and does it meet the starndards that have been expressed in the About Page.

Case in Point:
Giveaway of the day is a win-win solution for both publishers and clients
The idea behind this initiative is that many sites and publishers offer trial downloads; but only we offer giveaway downloads. What does that mean?

Basically, every day we nominate one software title that will be a Giveaway title of that day. The software is available for download for 24 hours (or more, if agreed with software publisher) and that software is absolutely free. That means – not a trial, not a limited version – but a registered and legal version of the software is completely free for our visitors*

The software product is presented in its full functionality, without any limitations save for those mentioned in Terms and Conditions.

I'm just saying this is what is being published to the Public on About US and I hope That GOTD Operators Take this a Constructive Critisim.

The Last thing I would like to see is the Good Name Giveaway of the Day being Affliated with Crapware, Shareware, and become a second grade run of the mill website.

A very Loyal Fan
Ron

This GAOTD is (once again) just the STANDARD version of the full program with basic features that can be found in free tools as well....so it's not worth downloading!!

More demanding and professional users may find handier using more advanced task and project management apps like:

http://www.ebineutrino.org/crm/?CAT_ID=&LANG=en
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Others/Finances-Business/CRM-Express-Free-Edition.shtml

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Scheduling/InTask-Personal.shtml
http://www.nostopit.com/Products/nostopitTASK/tabid/183/Default.aspx

Alternatively or in addition to it, home users can give free tools like (Portable) EFFICIENT PIM FREE EDITION, "!myPlan Freeware" and/or FAMILYFILE a whirl:

http://www.efficientsoftware.net/
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Others/Finances-Business/myPlan-Freeware.shtml
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Others/Home-Education/FamilyFile.shtml

@jeff b #3, most programs throw something into you AppData folder temporarily. Something made your OS think that was were you wanted certain programs extracted/installed too. I suggest installing it to your desktop or program files folder. Unless you use something like CCleaner, your PC will remember your preferred location for all programs wanting to install directly into your C drive. I install mine on my desktop and it creates a portable folder. You can then right click on LeaderTask.exe and create a short-cut to desktop. (Both of which can be moved around later.)

As for today's offer, it reminds me a lot of All My Notes Organizer. I agree with most people here in that it is once again a limited version that should be available as freeware and NOT offered here in the guise of Free Premium Software.

Evernote is free and does all of this and so much more, in fact, it has advanced so much I would have to take a day off to really learn everything it does but it installs on your home PC, smart phone, work computer and integrates with outlook so you can add or read reminders from home, work or anywhere you are at with your smartphone and synch them up with one click of a button. It also works with dropbox and many other applications. It's very simple yet can be as advanced as you need it too.

Win XP SP 3 installed ok

It gives you the option to instal it where you want , but did not create a desk top short cut which is bad and does not autostart up after instal either.
So I manually created a short cut.

Statistics and reports and email only available in the expert version

http://www.leadertask.com/content/view/14/29/

It is a bit disingenuous for GAOTD or was it Leader task to put the
heading for todays giveaway as as the Expert version when it is only the standard being offered.

Try clicking on the Club button, it then says a news version is available 7.4.0.2 with a button to up date.

Seeing as this offering is free without up dates , it would be very easy for someone to click update and too late realising they have crippled the prog.

Not had a chance to try out all the functions yet but ,
I have been using " Essential PIM " free version and it seems on par with that.

As this offering is free , if you want a basic PIM , without needing email function or reports I would still say this is worth downloading.

UPDATE:

The valid key lies in the file "chartdir.lic".

But then I get a message saying the key has expired. So, I continue and it's the evaluation version. E-mail is available.

Then I enter the data in the file "activate_leadertask.ltkey". This time, key is accepted.

But I'm back to the GOTD version, not the Expert Version. Hence no e-mail.

I'm really fed up with that crap.

After reading some of the comments I thought I'd give this a try anyway. Many of the useful features are unavailable and without them makes keeping the program pointless and as previously pointed out the site is blacklisted although I ran a scan of the installed software and nothing suspicious was found. Really don't this software with its limitations is worth keeping as similar fully functional freeware is readily available. Thumbs down on this one.
