iSkySoft a company not to be trusted!
Promote their product with:
"You get lifetime free upgrades" but then don't honour their promises saying:
"PDF 5 and PDF 6 are 2 different programs now. "

WHAT IS WITH REGISTRATION???
I read the readme, the program installed okay, so I FOLLOW the misleadingly simple INSTRUCTION to go to http://www.iskysoft.com/video-software-windows.html to get a registration number AND THERE IS NO PLACE TO GET A NUMBER!!!
There is a place to RETRIEVE a number you've already registered with, but RETRIEVE isn't the same as GET and entering your email without a password in that input area DOES NOT WORK.

BTW, FORUMS held the answer, but by the time I got back home to my PC, downloaded, installed and ran into this brick wall, and read Forums, it was too late try to register. So, I've lost out on this product. Thanks for making registration so bloody easy, Wondersoft.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I was quite happy with the testing and went on to purchase a license, with lifetime upgrades(one of which I sincerely hope will be default for conversions to be the original resolution).

Downloaded and installed on Windows 8.0 without issue, and the registration e-mail arrived promptly. Agree wirg various earlier commenters about missing features/capabilities, especially that there should always be the option to convert to the original resolution and this should be added ASAP in the next program update!

It has nearly every other that I look for, including selection of the number of CPU cores to run on and the ability to take advantage of graphic card's GPU to speed up conversion.

I was intrigued by its 3D conversion possibilities (not many of the converters off this feature). So I converted a 2.0 GB movie into 3D, and it took less than 30 minutes (went away to do some household chores, so didn't take an exact measurement). The resulting 3D side-by-side converted movie looked quite nice on my 55-inch LG television set (considering the compromises taken for converting 2D to 3D). The 3D result was subtle, with Sandra Bullock standing out reasonably well from all the spinning space debris, not as good as when I saw it at the movie theatre but good enough as a conversion.

I'm not really sold on the idea of something being added to my machines startup routine.

Now, if it had some kind of gadget such as some kind of drag and drop deal, I'd be all for it. But there is no evidence that suggests that the startup entry it adds on installation is useful.

I will have to agree with the commment here about the CUDA acceleration. Tested on a machine without it, and one with , similar specs, lesser hardware , did about the same time , give or take 2 to 3 minutes difference..

Needs to improve and needs to be less nagging on the promotional side.

Lot's of people claim all of these softwares are basically the same except it's under different names. Not so , if you have tested them throughly you'll notice some of these converters excel over others out on the market, guess its a preference of what you need to get done with your conversion products, thats all.

During install, the WELCOME screen has poorly written sentence with both parentheses in the wrong places. That is an indicator of possible shoddy workmanship. You DON'T want that as your first introduction.

Simple understandable EULA.

The FAQ Tutorial page for the iSkysoft Video Converter Ultimate is extensive. This will be most helpful.

Registration complaints I see. The reg happens after install and the email is sent with the #. Then go to MENU in the upper rt corner of the software and hit register. Enter your used email and the # sent.

While it's true that this program does a lot of annoying stuff to clutter up your system that it shouldn't do, most of it can be undone and removed easily enough. You can delete the two entries from your startup list using msconfig. You can remove the right-click-context-menu items in the registry entry HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers. You can uninstall the virtual sound card driver. What additional system service did you discover? I haven't found that.

@18 - VictoriaSee: Software Informer notes most (if not all) of the programs installed on your computer, and tells you when new versions come out. I don't know how many GOTD users install it, but I don't anymore.

As Software Informer is directly from GOTD, you can be 99% certain that it's fine, BUT if you're not sure what a program is, then it's NEVER a good idea to install it anyway - whether you intend uninstalling it immediately or not. You're far better off risking missing any deal by cancelling the installation and searching the web for information on the 'unkown' program/file (starting with your security/antivirus software's website) than risking infection.

I rarely comment here but felt the need today after trying out this peskyware. It is dreadful!

Yes it may be able to do what ffmpeg and all the other free converters can do but:

Its slow, even with CUDA acceleration.

It regularly phones home, dumps a load of entries on context menus, installs start up programs and services including - this was the deciding point for me - a new audio driver which is set to be the default one, messes up audio playback and turns off muting and does Heaven knows what else. You don't even want to look in the installation folder and see what pesky pests are hidden there.

And do you know who's audio driver it is? Clue: its visible name is the cryptic "WsAudio_Device".

It's Wondershare...

Wonderful!

You have been warned!

Select the "EDIT" button next to the added video. On the EDIT screen select "ADJUST". On the ADJUST screen there is an Aspect Ratio pull down menu. You can also Crop, rotate and flip there.

Excellent software today! Thanks!

Guys- just FYI- todays software looks pretty similar to "Wondershare Video Converter Ultimate"- you can compare a screenshots here:

http://oi43.tinypic.com/2lk7lvn.jpg

and:

http://oi41.tinypic.com/2v9c7xl.jpg

Keep in mind- in Wondershare Video Converter Ultimate the program by default check for updates at startup, and without any warnings updates itself. In this way you lose the registration.

Because todays GOTD looks the same as Wondershare Video Converter, even in the settings- I am pretty sure it will update itself when the update is available, and you will lose the registration. In Wondershare Video Converter- even if you go to Preferences-> General-> Automatic updates and click on "Close automatic updates"- the program updates itself no matter what you choose.

The decision? Use the firewall to block the program from internet access- in the todays giveaway- you have to block "C:\Program Files (x86)\iSkysoft\Video Converter Ultimate\ISVCUSplash.exe".

The idiotic down-voting of constructive posts will always, I guess, be a huge irritant at GAOTD. Such is the case with marksg's post @ #24, a really helpful contibution to this thread because it will perhaps flag up to many here the existence of a sadly under-publicised freeware converter that has become better and better with every passing year:

http://www.softpedia.com/reviews/windows/XMedia-Recode-Review-163891.shtml

Do I use it? Yes. Of course. It permits a level of flexibility that no commercialware -- anywhere -- allows. Is it high quality? Answer: just click on the screenshots in the above link.

Do I also use iskysoft? Yes, of course I do. iSkysoft is Wondershare, trundling around under a different name; today's GAOTD was given away on Glary a month or two back. For speed and ease of use I've found it first-rate -- the GUI is a major improvement on the clutter so characteristic of many other video converters.

For professional-level conversion work though, with the facility to manage every aspect of the job and make particular use of the brilliant MKV container format, then XMedia Recode is outstanding -- and entirely free of charge.

Thanks, then, to GAOTD and iSkysoft for today's offering (and shame on the clowns who down voted marksg's post.)

I generally try to resist all the video converters to avoid cluttering up my current system the way my old one got cluttered, but I couldn't resist this one. Note that the giveaway is an older version 3.6, and it immediately prompts you to update to 3.7, the version described on the web site - but updates are not included with this giveaway. You can skip an update, but you can't turn off update checking. You might want to turn off the setting that adds all output to your iTunes library automatically. I also tried clicking on the Audio driver check button, and it didn't just check - it automatically added a virtual sound card to my system and incorrectly changed my system default audio output to speakers instead of optical. That's a bug that should be fixed, and it should warn before installing a driver that you might not want.

It is very fast, faster than Handbrake or Aiseesoft on my i5 system, probably because it uses the Intel GPU. For example it took 4.5 minutes to convert a 1 hr 45 minute DVD rip movie from MPEG-2 format to MP4/H.264. The CPU utilization only hit 34%, and the CPU fan doesn't kick into high speed the way that it does with the other CPU-based converters. And it does automatically preserve the original resolution, which is good. It even does a good job of keeping the size close to the original or reducing it in the case of a better compression codec like MPG-2 to H.264. However when I look at the details, it is slightly reducing the video quality and also the audio quality (e.g., it converted 160 kbps audio to 128 kbps, which explains some of the size reduction). And unfortunately on this test it put the audio slightly out of sync with the video in the output MP4 file, although that didn't happen in other tests.

Unfortunately the editing capabilities are very rudimentary in version 3.6, although it looks like they have made some slight improvements in 3.7. Basically you just have trim, crop and a few color/brightness adjustment choices.

If you install the browser extension you get a pop-up Download button when you mouse over a video window in the browser (sometimes - it's a bit erratic and may take a few tries). I prefer Flashgot as a video downloader for Firefox.

Overall I'd say it's marginal rather than a definite keeper. It's fast, but it reduces quality slightly and it has some problems with audio sync.

Does anyone of you knows a converter which can ?

Xmedia recode is still better and free. It allows you to covert video and simply copy the audio so as not to lose say DTS-HD master audio [5.1] or True HD [also 5.1]. Most of these converters change the audio to AAC or MP3, AC3 if you're lucky. I convert all my blu rays and dvd's to mkv using it saving lots of space and discs. II can put 3-4 movies on a dvd as a data burn, the br player plays back perfectly. Or put them onto a flash drive. MKV is the format of choice as it allows for uncompressed audio in any format.

ISkySoft installed and worked ok an an older WindowsXP. A conversion from MP4 to MKV seamed fast. As Giovanni says there are plenty of features. I'll keep it.

There was some confusion during installation. The email that was sent said the registration code was for version 4.6.0. When I ran the program it said there was an update to 4.7.0. I updated to 4.7.0 and then entered the registration number. It worked ok.

Downloaded and registered OK on windows XP. No time at the moment to try it but
1. Disapointed that a newly downloaded and installed program says its out of date and an update is available. But according to the write up updates are not available for this GAOTD version so thanks for out of date version to try. And even if it could be updated what a waste of time to have to install an update to a brand new item.

2. During installation AnviTaskmanager reports at least 3 new startup items added. I really don't need non essential stuff starting up at windows boot up. Does anyone use video conversion software every day and want it running in the background all the time? Not looked but I expect one is software that checks for updates which are not applicable to this installation anyway.
