The program doesn't work for a start. I added various videos and clicked to convert to iPod and the program reported that it was done. It saved a 6kb file. Yeh, converting failed. Not just that, but when I tried converting video to Pocket PC format, the program crashed. Back to using mediacoder!

I took a chance and ignored all the negaative comments of 72% down and 28% up and tried this out and IT DOES WORK. it is converting a rmvb file to mp4 right now as i post this. I have tried freeware and pay programs and they did not convert my rmvb file to mp4, all I got were error and can not convert messages. this one was very easy to figure out what to do to convert and start the convert program. just pick out the file you want to convert, select it then pick out how you want to convert it and then where to place the converted file once it is done then press start. it also has the option to turn off your computer if you want it to if you leave it running then go out or to bed it will do that for you. you can also bulk convert if you want to, also.

At the moment I’m trying to work out which if any of my XBox, cell phone, PalmOS PDA, WinCE PDA, JXD301 and CMD F70 PMP will actually *play* 3GP files. If it turns out that any of them do, I’ll review this software. At the moment though it’s looking like I get Sunday off from GAOTD this week :-)

You know, it really wasn't obvious from the description that this generates files in anything other than 3GP format. I didn't work this out until I installed the program and started playing with the tabs.

By the way, a menu would be nice. Icons are all very fine but it wasn't at all obvious at first where to click to register. Happened across it by accident while clicking on anywhere that looked like it could be clicked on... the link to paying, and to register should be on the Help menu. You do want people to find it easily after all.

OK, I installed it, and when adding/opening files there are several pre-defined types to choose from, and FLV is not among them that I could tell.

So unless there is another way to convert this format (that was not obvious to me), I think their web page has a mistake: perhaps the "FLV" reference should be removed (on the "corrected" page link for this product which I listed in a prior comment).

However, it did very quickly convert an AVI "test" file to a properly-playing MP4 format file, much faster than the playback time.

Seems pretty good to me -- I see no harm in keeping it for at least a while.

Also, you never know when one brand converter might do a job that another can't -- I've certainly run into that situation before.

Thanks, GAOTD and A-one Software!

Yeah it's free sure - but like a bunch have said -- there are freeware/opensource alternatives that do the job better imo. And those are free to begin with.

Can't understand why anyone would actually pay for this.

I have to concur with the others that have said to use MediaCoder..it simply does everything this does and lots more, including Flash to any other format you want..and it's fast and free :)

OK I am currently in the process of reviewing EVERY SINGLE video converter around. and hell there is a lot of work.
The latest I tried is "A-one iPod PSP 3GP Video Converter" : and I'd have to give it thumbs down. It is nowhere near as complete as the last one I tried this morning : ConvertHQ Premium (neat, does a LOT of output formats all in one,etc ..).

OK this one (above) is free : someone spends their time programming such app .. for the good of mankind.

I guess you get what you pay for

Nice Program, but i was not able to convert from wmv to 3gp, its start fine and one seconds later it says conversion completed and I have a 20 byte long 3gp file (the wmv is about 5 minutes long).

To bad it cant do flv files, but as long it is free why complain.

@SteveSomers-

Personally I tend to use SUPER from erightsoft for most of my conversions. This is freeware and converts to and from EVERYTHING (including audio #11). It will even rip mediastreams for you.

And it is far from perfect; give it tricky formats and it gorks up the job.

I'm a serious 'techie', FWIW Ive been a computer geek since pre-8080 days and know more about digital video formats than a whole *lot* of pros.

Try tossing video from a sony handycam miniDVD at it, just for fun. Or alternate interleave OpenDivX 4. oops.

There are often uses for specialized tools like this one even if most don't find they need them.

#33: some reviews are not all bad... the bad reviews generally come from people that just do not want another video converter ;-)

to me, it seems to work fine and quickly. it might not support all file types, but hey... if the file types you need are supported, why not give it a try? :-)

A note to GAOTD and the software vendors. I'm not interested in the size of the file I have to download. I am though interested in how much the application offered takes up of my hard drive. That info is often buried layers deep at the vendor home page, sometimes it can't be found at all.

The program looks good and without any complications its easy installed on my vista computer. The only problem is that it seems to take a little longer to convert my videos that expected. But otherwise it works great.

#33 There have been times when I have seen bad reviews but wanted the software so have tried it out myself and found the bad comments incorrect. Take as you find in all areas of life and don't be swayed by others' points of view. BE one of the reviewers, not the reviewee who takes everything others say as gospel - some of them may not have even tried out the software and yet you are missing out.

I read a quote recently - "If 5,000,000 say a foolish thing, it is still a foolish thing". See what the software can do for you rather than what others claim.

It is a keeper fer sure. I done instilled it on all 3 computers. This is my pick for the best giveaway in quite a while!

Do these developers even realise that this type of software comes free with most decent mobile phones?
Try downloading the Nokia PC suite I was using that to encode into 3gp before any of these shareware offerings were on the market.

Waste of time and effort

Thankyou GAOTD for your sevices. It has netted me quite a few great little programs. Personally, this software is not for me as I have no personal electronic devices to use it. That being said, however, I think some people are treating GAOTD like a genie. They only ask for what they want, instead of critiquing the software. Saying you can get something for free instead of getting this software for free is just silly in my books. Why bash software that is offered for free, just because you find other similar software for free? That doesn't help software developers create better software. It doesn't help us to know if we should d/l this program. It's a waste of time. The most help is when someone points out problems with the offered software so we can be wary of them. Thanks for you time, everyone. :)

#11 - er no it doesn't support CD ripping - it's a video convertor you see.

This one's surprisingly good, particularly for those new to "borrowing" videos. It's a nice tight interface and runs well.

Personally I tend to use SUPER from erightsoft for most of my conversions. This is freeware and converts to and from EVERYTHING (including audio #11). It will even rip mediastreams for you.

It's available
here but be warned it's very, very "techie" so if you don't know for example what format you want to code to it will be useless.

I just converted about 10 AVI files to 3gp with this. It was quick and the quality was very good. Exactly what I was looking for.
I'm running Vista and haven't had to shut it down in the taskbar (opened it from scratch a few times to see). The only thing I didn't like was when I was adding videos it didn't remember the last folder I was in each time I clicked on the plus sign. Not extremely bad, but a little annoying since I couldn't use the CTRL button to select multiple videos.

Nice little piece of software, quick and efficient. Quick download and easy to use. Had to be crashed a couple of times but overall 6/10.

At #5 that was the biggest tirade of nonsense I have ever heard. You may think it makes you sound clever but really you just sound like pretentious twat.

I disagree...for maximum efficiency, losses should be recognised before they are expected to occur but gains should not be recognised without verifiable evidence.
That way we can not be disapointed.

This program does what it says and does it quite well. The bad side is that it feels pretty unstabe and hangs up when beeing minimized in Windows Vista. (I had to, ctrl-alt-del, kill it four or five times - every time due to minimization)

I tried to convert an .avi-file to be played on PSP and it went fast and painless. (I did choose the lowest quality) From an original filesize at 175mb the program compressed it to under 40mb. Like I said I used the lowest quality and mono sound, but over all I liked the result!

I gave this program the thumbs up but that is just because it is free. As a pay-to-use program I would nerver ever give it the thumbs up!

This program installed on my vista computer with no activation issues. But I am wondering how this program compares to the DVDFAB HD Decrypter 4 (professional version) as DVDFAB also has sams/similar feature set.

Maybe giveawayoftheday should feature DVDFab professional for free on day?
