Sorry, changing the folders name will lock up the game on Lan Play.

You should try downloading codecs or, if you want, you can replace the movie folder's vids with these "fake" ones.

*** For those who are having problems when lauching the game ***

It's probably a codec problem.
Try going to the Ingenious folder on Program files and changing the name of the folder "Movie" to something else.

Good luck!

I am rnning XP Pro sp2. I got to play this game maybe 3 times and now I get the opening splash screen and the error message box that says the program had an error and has to close. I did report the error t there is no indication as to what the error is, since I am no programmer and can't read te technical report.

This game is horribly broke. Freezes when exiting, computer won't move if I change player options, and the computer takes extra turns.

Was not able to run this game. Using Vista Home Premium. Tried installing several times, including setting to XP compatibility and running as administratior. Donwloaded a second time, same results.
Have had no problems with other software.
Thanks anyway... Everything else I've downloaded worked as expected.

I'm disappointed! The game started strong, but as I play it, it stops working right in the middle of the game. Clicking on a tile to play it, nothing happens. Only way is to close that game (darn, I was winning) and start another. I'm glad it was free, I'd hate to pay for it and find this problem :(

Hello Gamers,

I just wanted to tell you a little more about the designer Reiner Knizia. For the modern board game player, he's a big deal. Reiner's one of the most prolific and successful game designers out there and has over 50 games in print at any time. He designs games for all types, from small children to hardened gamers and he often has an interesting scoring mechanism in the game. In this game, Ingenious, it's that your lowest colour value is your true score. The same mechanism is used in his game Tigris & Euphrates, highly rated by serious gamers.

Board games have changed a lot in the last decade and now many are being converted to PC versions. If you've played games like Settlers Of Catan, Niagara or Carcassonne, then you're enjoying the fruits of German designers and publishers. Nip over to www.boardgamegeek.com to find out more about these games. My favourite Knizia game is Through The Desert.

Cheers,
jon.

same problem as #78 - the game apparently hangs after Computer takes a turn. When it should be my turn, I can't select a tile. It looks like a good game, but I can only play a few moves before this happens. :-/

Follow Up to my #76 comment: I updated the Kaspersky virus signatures and tried activating again - this time with no virus reports. So it was indeed a false positive. I've installed and been playing ingenious. GREAT GAME! My wife and I are having fun playing over our network... let's see, winner does the loser's chores for ...

Thanks GGOTD and Merscom for an addictive game. I downloaded this with only 14 minutes to spare but am so glad I got it. It took 3 tries for me to win but after using the tutorial I did it.
Thanks White Rabbit for your review - I always look for that before downloading.

Nice game, but as simple as it is, they managed to screw it up. Every once in a while, once in practically every game, it gets stuck: you can't highlight any of the pieces to move. Once it even happened to me on the very first move. The only cure: save the game, exit comletely, start it again and load saved game. Then you can play.
As a giveaway it's OK, but I wouldn't pay a dime for it. Too buggy.

In case anyone ends up with the error:
"...failed to start because ad2mpegin.dll was not found..."
Like I did, here is the fix:
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=319912

Add the ad2mpegin.dll and ad2mcmpgdec.dll files to your Windows\System32 directory.

This error message appears because the application you are attempting to start cannot find the ad2mpegin.dll file on your system. If you see this error message when you start an application, and you recently installed Premiere Elements 2.0, copy both the ad2mpegin.dll and ad2mcmpgdec.dll files from the Premiere Elements directory to your Windows\System32 directory:

1. Navigate to the Premiere Elements 2.0 folder. By default, this folder is installed at C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Elements 2.0.

2. Copy the ad2mpegin.dll and ad2mcmpgdec.dll files.

3. Navigate to the Windows System32 folder. By default, this folder is installed at C:\WINDOWS\system32.

4. Paste the ad2mpegin.dll and ad2mcmpgdec.dll files into this folder.

During activation, Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0 reported a virus alert: Trojan-Dropper.Win32.Agent.boh in C:\Documents and Settings\Toolman\Local Settings\Temp\we24DC.tmp
Kaspersky prevent writing this file and the "Activating..." dialog is still displayed. I don't know if this is a false positive from Kaspersky, but I was wondering if anyone could shed any light on this. I know GOTD says these things are malware free and I welcome some information from them or the developers.

Have to wonder about the apparent need to manipulate the thumbs up/down ratings though.

Same as #30. Installs fine, but crashes upon launch, even before it manage to open a window. Only getting the XP pop-up to send or not send error report (have sent). Using Windows XP SP2, but no other patches or updates at all. Game looked very interesting. Hope they will fix this problem and offer an update.

Those of you with kids especially should check out the website of the creator of Ingenious--this page particularly: http://www.convivium.org.uk/kgcoolstuff.htm# I downloaded "Sudoku Hex" "Decathlon" and "Catego" there. These are games in pdf files with pieces or scorecards you can print and cut out for family fun.

Note to #61: The expiration date is for the download service that GOTD uses, not for the application.

Installation was easy, tutorial was informative enough to get me going. Nice colors, had to turn the music off. All in all a great game. :)

Well an easy donwnload and I must say a very nice little game, they say games like this keep the mind sharp and it is an easy and slightly addictive one. Easy step by step tutorial that actually guides you through by letting you complete the steps. I still have to figure out the point system though. I don't often download games but this will compliment the MahJong game I downloaded a few weeks back, you can only play the one supplied with windows so much and variety is good to have.

Exactly the same as #10. Reinstalled twice. Re-downloaded but it has the exact same md5 hash, so I expect the same result. Also, while not opening a window, the running process consumes 98% of my cpu cycles. Very disappointed.

This game is definitely worth getting!! I agree with the others, WATCH the TUTORIAL to learn how to play the game. I have a 5 yr old who is very bright, especially with computers, and he really loved playing this game. And I loved him playing it because unlike other shoot 'em up games which are pretty mindless usually, this one requires him to think. Thanks so much again!!

Merscom has had very few duds in the offerings here, and this one may be the best yet. Installed easily, the tutorial is excellent, and the network play worked without a hitch.

Good game, good graphics, music you can turn off if it's not your thing, (some of it wasn't my thing).

All in all totally worth the time to download and install, and you miss it today, and you like puzzle games it's worth buying. We'll be playing this one for some time to come.

I LOVE this game!!! It is very addictive and the colors are nice. If you like puzzle/thinking/strategy games, you will enjoy this. I have yet to beat the computer, but have come close. I don't think I will tire of this one anytime soon. Since there are no "levels" to beat, the replay-ability of the game is infinite. I tend to play games until I beat them and then leave them behind for a long time before playing again. Not this one! Overall, a 10/10!!

Thank you GGOTD team and Merscom! Keep up the great work!!

I've never bothered downloading any of the games on here as they never look very good and I don't play alot of games on my computer but I liked the look of this on so gave it a try. Its actually pretty good. Takes a while to get to grips with but once you get the hang of it it's pretty addictive. One thing I didn't realise at first was why I was losing games when I had the highest score, after a second look at the tutorial I realised you lose if you have the lowest amount in any one of your colours eg your lowest colour is blue with five, your opponents lowest colour is red with 6, your opponent would then be the winner. This adds an extra element of strategy as you have to try to keep all your colours scoring well.

If you like the look of the game you probably will like it and it may well be a keeper for me.

Downloaded, installed and activated with no problems.

The name suits this game. It looks simpler than it is. I agree with #21 that it is part chinese checkers, part othello and part something else. The graphics are clean and simple. Large and easy to see for those of us with low vision. My only complaint is that even when full screen is deactivated, the board remains on a full black screen, therefore blocking out all other windows.

Overall this game gets a 9.5 out of 10.0!! As usual Merscom has given us yet another keeper. Thanks Merscom and GOTD!!!

Typical, the first puzzle game that I found here that I might like, and it doesn't work for me. Anyone else have this problem: it goes into the game, then you're at that "find lan game" page, and I can't click on anything or close the program. I have to use task manager to close it. Anyone with a solution to this, let us know, thanks!
