Installed program without a hitch. Activate program is another story. It opens, trys to connect for activation and then returns "failed to connect Try again later". Have tried many times, and time is running out. How do I activate this program. Other GOTD software has not had this problem.

It's a general sheet music program although it does allow guitar tab notation. It doesn't seem to show chords (above the sheet music), although I haven't worked with much. I learned to read sheet music (mainly treble clef) when I learned guitar and not the tab notation.

It's programs such as this which caused a major crackdown on midi sites about a decade or more ago because they allowed one to convert midi files into sheet music. So if you have some midis you like you can use this to create the sheet music for the songs.

Also, how does it automatically know my name and email address without me entering it?!? Creepy...
Check yourself (if you use an email client like Outlook Express on your local computer) in the "Settings>Mail" tab!

I see it attempts Internet access every time the program is opened and I see no way to disable update check (I assume that is why it's trying to reach out onto the Internet). I wonder if it will stay an activated full version if allowed to keep accessing the Internet for months/years? If you have a third party firewall like I do, you can block it from accessing the Internet with it; never found a way to block a program from accessing the Internet with the Windows firewall though...
P.S. I'm running XP Pro SP 3...

Installed on 32bit XP flawlessly. First you have to open setup.exe after installation you have to exit it do not run. Now click activate.exe and you are now registered as License to GiveAwayOfTheDay.

But it is not what I'm expected. It is more on music notes and not guitar chords. The TuxGuitar open source is more understandable when you are studying guitar chord and at the same time it has music notes.

Never or less, this GAOTD release is very useful for musicians specially dealing with music notes.

As a professional guitarist this caught my interest so I thought I give it a try - Verdict, from a purely pro view is this program might be good for beginners, but I have my doubts. The GUI is messy and confusing and the learning curve would be very frustrating. I pass on this.

Well I did extract the zipped folder (first thing I did). I always do that.
Tried it another couple of times. Still doesn't activate for me. Uninstalling.

#2: Make sure to extract the zipped folder (as the directions state) before running Activate.exe. It didn't activate until I did that.

As someone who has been composing music on my computer for about 15 years, I thought I would give this product a shot. The software that I normally use is extremely out-dated, but very easy to use. Guitar Tab Maestro 7 is very similar to a lot of other music composition programs, (Finale, Tux Guitar). I don't see that it's is especially geared toward guitar players, aside from being about to put music in by tab. The process is slow and tedious though. The interface is common, and inputting notes is very similar to my other programs.

I was a little excited when I saw that the program also lets you use a piano roll, but it was short lived when I saw that it's more of a viewing technique than anything else. It's almost useless.

The only thing that I like about this product is that you can set up scores, and print them. However this is available using other programs, some of them even for free, such as MuseScore.

All in all I would say that this program is not something that I would use, and I will go back to using my old standard. I would love an up to date program that is as easy to use as what I'm using now, but after trying Cakewalk, Finale, and many other notation programs, none are as easy to use as my old Voyetra software. To bad they only make headphones now.

Extract the files, run setup. Extract (don't run) the Activate.exe files and then run from where you extracted the files to. This allowed me to register the program without problems. I hope this helps.

#10 Once you have installed your program, make sure to turn off the program installation and software. Then you can click on activate.exe which will activate it for you and take you to give away of the day activation webpage. Now you can go to your program files to fish out Guitar tab, and right click on the .exe to create a shortcut on your desktop (Send to and select Desktop). Now you can conveniently click on your desktop shortcut to start Guitartab maestro. And there is no need to enter any serial number. ;-)

I don't see big difference with TuxGuitar (Open, free and the bonus : compatible with GuitarPro tabs ).

It's a music scoring program and it's clearly not aimed at guitarists. Look at the tutorial page, it's all score notation. It's got nothing to do with guitar tablature. This program isn't at all useful for guitarists who use tab and don't read music. If you wanted to buy a guitar tab program you'd have to pick guitar pro over this any day. I look at this and it's simply completely unusable. I wouldn't even begin to bother trying to work it out and I studied film scoring and composition with a major in guitar.

I play the guitar for a few years now, so I gave this a try. I also use Guitar Pro and Powertab.

Installation was quick, registered without problem. My impressions:

The GUI is a mess. That's one of the biggest problems. After Guitar Pro, you find yourself lost. I think you can get used to it if you take the time, but it needs some improvement.
The sound: Midi, not better, not worse. Sounds like an old mobile phone's ringtone. It's not a major drawback because it doesn't have to sound good, it's enough if you can distinguish the instruments. The drums and keys are good, distortion guitars are not.
I tested it with some of the demo files, and some downloaded tabs. It opened and played the demo files well (they are in sfd format), and also .mid files, but had some trouble with .gp4 tabs. Notes were off (maybe it doesn't like detuned guitars) and it couldn't handle some time signature changes (Dream Theater is a very good test subject I think :) ).
What I liked about it is that it has quite a lot of features. You can add custom tunings, you can find a chord list, it can import .mid and .gp4, you can export to wave or mp3 etc.

Personally I like GP better, but if you don't have it, it worth a try.

I used the activate exe file several times - sometimes with the programme open, sometimes with it closed. The GOTD website comes up saying that it has been activated, but, each time, whenever I re-open the programme it still shows itself as a "trial version". Is there something missing in the instructions?

hahaha, at last, a freebie (at least for this day at gotd) a music app designed for the guitar player.
i'm just a guitar beginner but this application has the potential to help my inner creativity (if i have one, LOL).

downloaded fast from gotd server using mozilla firefox 23.0
installed on windows 7 home premium sp1 x64 (all microsoft updates installed as of august 8, 2013) desktop computer with 2x2gb ddr3 1600mhz gskill memory running at 1333mhz (default supported by mobo), intel dh55tc mobo, nvidia 9800gt 1gb ddr3 video card, 1tb sata I hitachi hdd.

the software package is in compressed zip format, GuitarTabMaestro7, size is 22.9 MB (24,083,877 bytes).
when uncompressed, the full 30-day trial installer is present.
the gotd activation wizard is likewise present.

i closed guitar maestro 7.x after installing it and clicked activation wizard "activate.exe", size 3.14mb, file version 2.0.1.16, product version 2.0.1.0.
activation was successful and the product is licensed to "GiveAwayOfTheDay" (aka GAOTD, you, you... nevermind... :) )

in the little time i have used this software, i found the following:
the guitar maestro 7.x app has a few music sample compositions.
the music samples are playable under its own built-in music player.
the only drawback i have encountered so far is the lack of a "back" button in the main gui, unless i'm mistaken or missed this button (similar to back button of steam game client).

guitar maestro 7.x has the ability to export musical composition to:
image, pdf, or audio (wave format), and has the menu to publish it in the web.

thanks, gotd and maestro music software.
