    Hi,

I share the same activation problems as many users here.
I am always told to try again or check my firewall settings.

I have tried deactivating both my Winxp and gateway firewall to no avail.
Therefore I really wonder what is causing my connection problems for software activation.

I would really appreciate any help to resolve this issue of mine, as i saw no solution in other posts.

    Merry Christmas and Regards,
    funniezatee.

  2. Are you installing these programs the day you download them?

    Hi ZeckOwner,

I do understand that I have to activate the program before the time limit as stated in the main page is up.
    My steps were:
    1)downloaded the zip file
2)uncompressed it into a folder on desktop
    3)installed the program
4)started the activation by double clicking on the activation file (the one in the desktop folder)

Did i miss out or do anything wrong?
Or am i supposed to copy the activation file into the folder where i installed the program?

    Thanks a lot.

I am having the same problem as funniezatee. I have installed and activated several programs previously on the same computer. Now I get the try again later or check firewall error. I have activated the same program on another machine with no problem. I'm guessing it has to do with firewall or something but as funniezatee said, I have disabled both the Windows XP firewall and my gateway firewall with no luck.

    Any ideas?

    Hi all,

I share the same pain as all of you.
I wonder if the administrator can help us out in some way by putting forward some solutions,
since so many people suffer from this problem.

Otherwise i am afraid this is going to drive me to some other similar sites that i see on the web.

    Regards,

Am also receiving Setup activation error messages; specifically, "Activation module failed to connect to www.giveawayoftheday.com. Software activation is not possible at the moment. Please try again later or check your firewall settings." There is no firewall block message and the dial-up networking tray icon doesn't indicate any outbound traffic when initializing setup. According to the download clock, I still have 16 hours left to activate and install the software (which is SolveigMM Video Splitter).

Any of you that are having problems, use a router? Some routers have hardware firewalls. I don't have problems with activation (I use 2Wire DSL/router/firewall). So I don't think it is a problem with giveawayoftheday end of things.

  9. I can tell you this much from my poking around things. The activation program, actually all it does is make a call to the website here and gets the HTTP response of a code of some type (from MySQL and PHP) to get the program setup to continue to run or put in registration info (Example of received info from today's setup program [seems to be encrypted]: "ÔÐæ]3" . If you can browse the internet, and seeing that you have posted, that you do, then it most likely still is an issue with the firewall. In my case at home, I use ZoneAlarm. It pops up and I make sure to say "Allow" else it will block the HTTP connection. Remember to check your Windows security settings as well as some people actually have 2 firewalls enabled (a third party and the Windows one).

This can be done by going START -> CONTROL PANEL -> SECURITY CENTER -> Select "Windows Firewall" under "Manage Security Settings for:" -> Select "Exceptions" tab -> Click "Add Program..." -> Select your activation installer (this probably will need to be done each time for each program).

I hope this helps and I feel your pain.

    LORD Bless,
    -Timothy

I can install and activate ton another computer on the same network so it has nothing to do with my hardware firewall. The problem must lie with windows or my software firewall but I've disabled both the windows and software firewall and get the same error. I will try to continue to solve the problem and let you all know if I figure out something.

bytor62... It is okay to run a hardware firewall (from your router, etc.) and one software one on your computer at the same time. But you stated: "The problem must lie with windows or my software firewall". Never run two software firewalls at the same time! The Windows XP firewall is a software firewall too.

While we are on the subject, never run 2 or more anti-viruses or anti-spyware, etc. at the same time either. Nothing good ever comes from this. All it does is to confuse poor Windows. And it blocks things it shouldn't be blocking. Plus it puts Windows in a good position to crash.

ok, im another one in the same boat. all games and all software give me:

"Activation module failed to connect to www.giveawayoftheday.com. Software activation is not possible at the moment. Please try again later or check your firewall settings."

now, first, the wrapper that "the people responsible for this site" created never triggers any notification and i can confirm it never even gets to attempt a connect to the internet that is detected by me.

some have come with its: a firewall problemm, a router problem, ISP problem, a proxy problem, etc.

now, here is currently the data i have about this problem that doesnt let me activate (and install) any software on my main computer:

1-firewall i use is not the cause. i have another computer with the same firewall and i am capable of activating the software there (not that i want to install it there, but thats another matter). also i have disabled the firewall on my main computer to no effect. basicly it has nothing to do with my firewall.

2-router, proxy, ISP, whatever- i have connected a portable with windows media center (+ NIS2006) to the same router that my main computer and was able to activate the software. so it has nothing to do with : router, proxys, ISPs, etc.

3-all computers i was successfull on, and all other persons computers i know which where able to activate the software where all on intel cpus (this could be eliminated if someone with an intel cpu stated they also have the problem), some had my firewall.

summary: this problem is either related to AMD cpus, or a specific windows/software configuration (excluding firewall) that i have on my main computer.

as an aside, "us programmers", when we get an error, we normaly get a return code from the function we were attempting to do, and generally output that information in some way, even if it is to a log file, if we dont want to confuse a user with return codes and stuff. now, the only way i see to solve this problem is exactly that, please ouput the damn function and return code of what you were attempting to do instead of just giving a "i was unable to connect and its probably because the site is overloaded or your firewall"
the return code will most probably give an idea of what area is causing the problem.

id hate to have to debug your programs (hoping the wrapper is not debug protected) to get the damn function and error code your wrapper is doing. not that its the first time i have debugged third party software that dont seem to be able to solve their software problems and resort to "theories" of what can be causing the problem.

as it stands i cannot install the software on my main pc, where i do all my work.

Sorry Sergio, but I'm using a DELL Dimensions 2400 w/ an Intel chip ( Windows XP Home edition )and having the same problems as eveyone else in this forum. Have followed all the standard "Disabled the firewall", "removed my router" blah blah blah w/ no changes.

I too see no errors AT ALL in my firewall software AND see no messages in the security audit ( control panel ).

"Activation module failed to connect to www.giveawayoftheday.com. Software activation is not possible at the moment. Please try again later or check your firewall settings."

Why does anybody need more information that this plain English error message provides? It means the link between your computer and GOTD can't be established for activation. And why are some of you ripping GOTD to fix it? As for many of us, activation is working fine and always has. So how can it be their fault? I mean really?

Now I ran "NETSTAT /A" before, during and after successful activation. And it looks like to me that it uses TCP ports from 2106 to about 2145. Now if some of you are convinced that it isn't your firewall, router, or anything on your end blocking these ports. Then there is just one thing left that makes any sense to me. That is your ISP thinks they are doing you a favor by blocking these ports for you.

So why not call your ISP and let them figure it out? After all, that is why you people pay big bucks to them for, right? Neither GOTD nor I can do it for you. As we are not paying your ISP for support. You are! Plus they wouldn't listen to us anyway.

so you are saying that even though i can install using my portable with the same firewall connected to the same router connected to the same isp (funny...) that it is a problem with my isp, my router or my firewall.
    interesting deduction.

I guess like others here, I appreciate the range of software GOTD flags up, but I only download that which is of genuine relevance to my needs. So far I've done six downloads, in three of which the activation module couldn't connect to GOTD. So I did what the error message requested -- and tried again later. Successful connections were all made on the second attempt and the software activated OK.

As to the difficulties some are experiencing, it'd certainly help if Sergio's point about function / return code could be implemented.

  18. It is not related to AMD. GAoTD works for my AMD machines at home - AMD64 and Sempron.

someone here has said they have the same problem on an intel machine.
so it is clear, like tjchan points out that its not AMD related.
(thank god those days of incompatibilities are long over)

well, to me its more than obvious that there is something on my machine thats causing the problem.
what i was trying to ask is to reduce the problem, by narrowing it down, by examining the function/return code.

it is unfortunate that not everyone here has another portable/pc where they can activate their software. and obviously, you would have to some up with a solution to move the software back to the machine where you really want to use it...

some, that have this problem, will be in what the "general message" states, but it is obvious that some other thing is affecting the rest of the persons. i thing that not everyone here that is having this problem is "computer illiterate".

but , like in some other forums, it seems they dont read these forums.

so, apparently i am left with the only option of debugging their software, if (and i have a feeling their wrapper is debugger protected) it is not. now i just need some time off from all my other activities. yap, do what they should be doing...

and if i find out what it is, i can garantee i am gonna call IDIOTS to them.

No that is different! The problem is now obviously that computer is blocking those ports.

    Hi,

Just to add my thoughts...and that is ALL that they are as I cannot immediately confirm.

I had been successfully installing selected apps when it was a two step process, i.e. prior to this "single setup.exe"...so I *think* that it might have something to do with some requirement of this single exe...but there isn't anything that I have seen to indicate this.

I have disabled my firewall and rebooted me laptop, still get the same error. Even with my firewall enabled, I do NOT get a message asking for permission for setup.exe to go out.

I copy the file over to my desktop, run the setup NOT disabling my firewall and it works just fine.

The primary difference, for me, between the two computers is that my desktop has .NET (asst versions) installed and my laptop does not...and I have not real desire to install it on my laptop unless I can get some sort of confirmation that that really is the problem...

Anyway, just my 2 cents, HTH someone else...

I believe it to be a site issue. I have never had this problem either with the two step process or the single step until I tried the Diskanalyzer Professional. Nothing changed on my computer, unless the computer fairy did it!!

No one was able to activate diskanalyzer.

By the way, try openDNS. Comcast has "accidently" blocked access to download.microsoft.com too many times.

I am having the same activation problem. I am on broadband, however, I decided to try by using a dial up account with another ISP and the activation worked first time.

So If my ISP is blocking a port can givawayoftheday people post which port is used so I might be able to ask my ISP to unblock it.

It did it again last night. This time I noticed that my router speed dropped to 1 Mbps. If I go to another website the speed jumps back up to 55 Mbps. Any thoughts?

    Posted 1 year ago #
  27. Bugmenot - The file for DiskAnalyzer IS the full version. There is nothing truly to activate. That exe IS the full version EXE. Download the demo and compare the files and you will see this is so.

Example: Kinda like Coffeecup Software - no serials just one EXE for trial and one EXE for full registered version.

Kepler: Sounds like your router is your issue.

If this problem is to do with the router then can any one give any clues where to look.

If it's to do with ones ISP then again clues as to what to tell the ISP.

Surly someone should know what is the cause of this problem????

    Posted 1 year ago #
  29. jb1957: Not sure where to look off the bat because to me this absolutely makes no sense. From a networking standpoint, you are browsing the web. That's all that's really required to activate from a technological perspective as GAotD's wrapper technology doesn't use any special ports which would be blocked (to my knowledge anyway - using only port 80). Sorry, I know it's not much help. But I'll be asking techs around here to see if a solution can be found.

tjchan: Are you saying the wrapper uses Port 80?? if so it maybe the problem.

I use a program called Spyblocker Pro which monitors port 80 and blocks all manner of spyware on the fly.

Maybe you can give it a try? At the moment the web page is down so can't direct you to it sorry.
