I also had this problem and haven't seen an answer. Great looking game but am unable to open the file. Any ideas?

“Generic application error. Enable debug output for detailed information. This sample will now exit.”

    Thanks in advance

I got that same error. I looked at the error file and it appears to me that its a problem with my video card. I installed the game on my sons pc and it runs fine, just not on mine. That's not surprising as I have a NVIDIA Geforce FX 5500 Video card and it gives me problems with ALOT of games.
Let me see if I can post my error file......

It could very well be your video card. But Atlantis Quest goes though a one-time-only resource unpacking sequence upon first opening the game. I wonder if it would work if you shut down all other programs running in the background to allow it to go though that one-time unpacking sequence? That would mean shutting down everything including any running programs that show icons in the system tray. May not work but it's worth a try.

Maybe parts of the game are corrupted(Check the folders). Or maybe you cant run it by clicking the shortcut on the desktop.Just to be sure, go to the folder of the game(Right click the desktop icon and click 'Find Target')and double click on the game icon. Hope you manage to play your game!

  5. "This device does not support the queried technique."

Meaning, your Video Card doesnt support the feature(s) you requested of it. It could be anything; Your buffer format, your resolution, etc. Try decreasing every setting to its lowest possible value and try again.

You could try resetting all of the options in the "Advanced" pages of your display settings to their Default values. Also cleaning the nVidia drivers from your system and installing the latest drivers (which may rule out some possibility of corrupted options in your driver settings).

Failing all of the above, it is your video card - which I'd be surprised because in theory it should affect everyone running the nVidia GeForce FX (5xxx range) - as you are the only person who has expressed an issue - I'm hoping it is the driver or driver settings that are causing the problem.

  7. As well as installing DirectX 9 - you should make sure your video drivers are current, and correctly configured.

What model/type of video card are you using?
