   I posted the following games (28 not counting the online ones)in another thread after answering a particlar question and thought it would be a good idea to create a thread dedicated to Match Three games, which includes gem matching, bubble shooters and a variety of other styles. All the games I've posted are commercially available games (elsewhere), and not technically freeware, though thank to these sites, the games have been made free (legally free).

   Those marked with **** are the ones I consider the best, though some of the othes are also excellent games; just not my thing.

   Please note that with gametop games (also FreeGamePick and MyPlayCity see below) your browser is opened to the distributors page when you turn the game off, but it's nothing underhanded. You can just simply turn the browser off (using the X) and that's it. I've tested virtually all the downloads from this site and they are all clean, though recent additions do ask if you want a tool bar installing and/or making gametop (also MyPlayCity and FreeGamePick) your home page, so do please make sutre that if any check boxes are presewnted that you uncheck the boxes. All the games are full versions and have no in game advertising like some free download sites.

   I wouldn't have included the MyPlayCity games this time last year but they have cleaned up their act big time. Now they are basically the same sort of site as Gametop. You still get the option of installing their tool bar and having your browser set to MyPlayCity, but so long as you ensure you uncheck the little boxes that you'll see during installation, you'll get the full game with only the browser opening on closure. I should post these in a seperate thread as I didn't real;ize there were so many match three games available for free. I'd say the ones marked with **** are the best.

   I've just discovered that to play the MyPlayCity games you do have to install the toolbar, so you may not want to bother with these. You can install the game even when you uncheck the toolbar and browser option, but when you go to play the game you are asked again if you wish to add the toolbar and/or change your home page. Id you uncheck all of these you can't gain access to the games. :)

   However, I'll leave the links in place as a couple of the games, notably Atlantis Quest, are very good match three games.

   Rome (and its sequel Persia) can be gotten as free downloads with ads somewhere too. I'm away from home right now, so I can't check, but I know someone on these forums found them for me.

   It's a shame that MyPlayCity have reverted to using the browser trick in payment for having the games, though you can still find some games on the site that are safe. Of those 3 games I mention above, Atlantic Quest is probably worth having the home page changed for a short while.

   You can always change your browser back once you've played the game by right clicking on your internet browser icon and selecting internet properties. From there you can type in your usual home page. Try using the default button first. Though each time you want to play the game you will have to allow the MyPlayCity program to hijack your browser.

   However, there are some of the games from this distributor that do work without having the toolbar or browser hijackings occur. You can tell which these are when you first start the installation process after the first EULA agreement, which is the standard one you get with all games. After agreeing to that you get another window opening, with a couple of tick boxes that ask if you want the MyPlayCity toolbar adding and your browser changing. If any of these are unchecked (usually at least one is checked), it means that the game will play without either, so you can uncheck whatever’s checked (advisable), install the game and play. The game will play fine; though you still get the MyPlayCity page opening at the end, when you close the game down. This is closed by pressing the Esc key after 5 seconds. (You’ll see why if you download and play one of the games).

   I may just trawl through the games and make a list of those that can be played without the browser and toolbar sometime this week. :) BTW, you can add another match three game to the list I posted yesterday. You can uncheck both the toolbar and browser hijack and it still works. It’s called:

   Apart from Lab Enigma, I’ve so far found a couple of the MyPlayCity games that can be played without the browser hijack and toolbar being added (though I’ve only done a cursory look so far); none are match three so really don’t belong in this thread, but I’ll mention them anyway:

   Last Pilot v Machine Nations, which needs to go into the space shoot ‘em up thread (though it's not actually a space shooter)

   There's at least three arkanoid/breakout games that I've not mentioned in the arkanoid thread which can be found over at MyPlayCity, though I'm not too bothered about them as I think I've got a couple of hundred of the things (lost count a couple of years ago, lol. I’ll probably add them sometime soon. They are called Vivid Arkanoid, Underwater Ball MyPlayCity Arkanoid and Monkey’s Friend, plus a few others which can be found at Gametop. Though only the latter – Monkeys Friend works without the browser and toolbar options.

I recognize a few of the game names and will explore many of these links over the next few days and weeks! I'm sure there will be several that will help keep me glued to the computer over the long Canadian prairie winter!!

    You know, I was just thinking - even if you have to accept their toolbar, you can deselect the actual use of it by clicking onto the View button on the (XP) Toolbar. With that in mind, you can 'have your cake and eat it, too'. :)

    Hi, all... I've never accepted the toolbar, and the games work just fine. Just de-select the two boxes before download, and only the game downloads. Yes, the site screen does come up at the end of each game (as in Gametop games) but you close it and that's the end of it. So not sure why some are being stuck with it... ??

    Thank you sooooo much Stephen. I love match three games and this weekend the weather is gross -25c windchill is -37c (I live in western Canada), so I will not be leaving the house at all, and since I don't care for television, just one of these games will keep me going all weekend. I don't reply much, usually just read stuff, but I wanted to wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and good health in the New Year.

    Hi RosnSC,

    You're right, but I think you have to select both of the boxes that are indented which means not only do you get the toolbar but your home page is hijacked. You can install all the games without the toolbar or the browser being hijacked providing you de-select them during installation, but when you try to play the game they always ask you again. If you don't select both the toolbar and the browser hijack you can't play the games as the play button is locked until you check both (or all three as there are two browser hijacks). Though as I mention somewhere above, you could always accept the browser hijack temporarily while you play the game then change your browser back to normal (which is easy enough).

    It's really no big deal; just a minor inconvenience in my opinion. It really depends upon how much you really want to play the games. Personally there are a couple of MyPlayCity games that I'm interested in, so I may just accept the consequences.

    I've still to make a list of those games that are exempt; of which there must be quite a few, because I found three out of the eight or so games that I originally installed worked without having to accept the browser hijack or toolbar installation.

    Maybe its a locale thing? I certainly can't play a higher proportion of the games without having the toolbar and browser hijack. It will be interesting to hear from others who can confirm this. Do remeber though that you still need to uncheck the boxes when you first go to install the games and no matter what, your browser will always be opened when you close a game down, but this isn't hijacking because if you open your browser it will still be linked to your usual home page be it Google, MSN, Yahoo, or whatever.

    Cheryl, if you do download the games from iWin, please DO create a restore point before you install them because iWin are notorious for messing up the registry with unwanted garbage as well as having privacy issues. I installed an iWin game some time ago and it took me ages to clear all traces of it off my system. You have to install the iWin games manager to play any of their games whereas with the others you don’t have to.

    If you had to scale these sites on their 'badness' towards a PC's health, I'd give Gametop and FreeGamesPich one star each, MyPlayCity 2 stars and iWin four stars. (Where more stars means more junk and difficulties) You can read the WOT {Web of Trust) reports and community member comments about iWin and the other download sites via the following links:

    Some new browser flash games, family / kids friendly (the three shooter-games are bubble blopps), with only little advertising. Maths and digits friends will have a lot of new puzzles to solve. Mahjong and Hidden Object Games, Match 3, Cards, Dices, Arcade...
    they all look fresh and friendly :) You can download some of the games and play in full version offline. A toolbar (Google) and a browser-"hijack" can be installed but that game I tried was playable offline without the toolbar and without browser problems. However after every level they want to show you some short advertising for their own games; when offline you see only a place-holder. As I am no registry-crawler I can not say if the program would leave some relics in the system - however, I have installed and played in a sandbox.

    Whiterabbit, thanks for the heads up on iwin.com. I will be very careful and do some investigating and preperations before I do anything with them. Appreciated very much. I read in the review for "Tiny Cars" that you were not feeling well, hope it's nothing serious; you're too busy to be feeling ill-er than you usually do. Hoping you feel better real, real soon! :^)

    Hi Cheryl, I think my journey to see my som passing off into an infantry regiment really exhausted me. I was virtually bed bound yesterday though I did manage to cobble together a review later in the day, but when I woke this morning I felt rather less than healthy - well relative to what I usually feel, lol.

    Nothing but a few days of taking it easy should see me right. I didn't like not writing a review as I've become accustomed to posting them, but I just wasn't capable today. I may give my hydrotherapy a miss tomorrow, but maybe not as it's the last one until after Christmas.

    So very sorry to hear you're feeling worse. You've been a busy "Rabbit" these days...maybe you're overdoing it. Just remember that your health is more important than these game forums are. Take yourself a couple of days off and rest. Everybody will understand and will be patient 'til you are feeling better. I think we're getting off-subject here. Maybe we should transfer to the "old coger" site :) !! Don't miss the last hydrotherapy session before Christmas; especially if it helps at all with the pain.

    Unfortunately I had to miss my hydro because my daughter had a bad toothache so I had to take her to the dentist. That saved around $70 as the sessions are very expensive. Enough to order two more games that have been reduced for Christmas, lol (Mass Effect and Grid)

    A good friend has just given me a great match three game as a present that's just been released; called Call of Atlantis. It looks like its a sequel to The Rise of Atlantis, but this one has some extra's added, making it an even better match three game than its predecessor. You can check it out from Big Fish Games:

    Hi, fullbug... I agree, it's one of the best. I think Wrabbit was referring to the fact that it's free there. They've got some good ones. (tho Yeti Bubble a sort of ho-hum popper) I love that mini-clock on your page. :)

    Hi, Wrabbit! There's a nice colorful shooter there called Golden Path. A little different, as the balls don't tend to obey gravity.
