   AlexSJ posted a thread about a free match 3 giveaway - Azteca - (as well as another 60 minute demo) as part of a Christmas giveaway program from Avanquest. The Guru of Games, Whiterabbit, posted a free link for Azteca over there. It's actually part of a 24 day giveaway program by Avanquest. I know nothing about them, but the magic word giveaway came up, so I thought I'd post what I've been able to find out about the giveaways. I posted over on that thread, but I figured people would be interested in the whole promo program, so, viola...

   I'll reproduce here some of what I said over there.

   Here's some followup info:
   Click on the link and you get a nice looking Christmas intro ad in German that contains the giveaways. You click on the number up in the sky that corresponds to the day of the week, today's is highlighted by rotating stars. Also, they post one day at a time, so you can't look ahead. Alex reported on the other thread that the promos are only good for one day. I haven't tried any, yet, because you've got to give info. - email and name. Of course, whether you give true information, or... "less than true" information is beyond the scope of this post. :)

   As Alex says, this company runs a Germam website, and participates in another, and has U.S., UK, French, Italian, and Spanish websites, which are linked at the bottom of each giveawy intro. Apparently, the U.S. site isn't participating. The UK site, however, is offering genealogy software today. There's a special promo code. Whether that gives you a full version or not - ?. It will probably be most useful to UK users, as it includes six months access to a UK genealogy website. Alex reports that some are just disount codes. He says the French site is offering PowerDesk 7. The Spanish site has Expert PDF 4 and the Italian has Fanta Morph Pro, a photo morphing software that also lets you make videos from the morphed photos. If you need more info. in English, the individual sites don't carry all the same software. The U.K. site does have Expert PDF 5 and PowerDesk 7. I googled Fanta Morph, it's made by a company called Abrosoft: http://www.fantamorph.com/ They offer version 4. Don't see a mention of this Pro version. They may be licensing and older version to Avanquest or may have been bought out. Couldn't tell with a quick look. Taking into account my tiny foreign language skill, the French and Spanish giveaways appear to be free. I can't tell about the Italian. The other German site, blitzbox.de, can be ignored unless you're having download problems. It seems to mirror the avanquest.de site giveaways exactly.

   This promotion might be interesting to monitor.

   Thanks for the info Watcher. If Expert PDF is being given away free I can recommend it as I bought it earlier this year. It's better than any PDF conversion tool we've been given on the giveaway project (IMO). I'll have to keep a look out for the UK side of things.

   I tried the Website X5 Smart Edition - website builder software, free download with serial number a day or two later. I got up to the part of having to enter the serial number given during install, - but it wouldn't accept it.
   If anybody got it work, please post. I wanted to give the program a try.

   Hi All, I got Jewel Match (and ended up with a UK Game Manager that I THINK I have deleted) but at the end of playing the game, I am told that I only have x number of minutes left on my trial!!

   I wrote to Avanquest but haven't had a reply, meanwhile I have gone over my 60 minutes and it is not worth buying so I have deleted the game. Very disappointing.

   Hi Nola,

   I had the same experience as you just now. I can only think that it might have to do with Jewel Quest having been offered a few days ago. Perhaps they only give the full version away on the day when the offer is first made (if you see what I mean).

   I'm going to try again on the 11th as the offering on the 10th is just a promo code for a Space Station Sim.

   I'd not bothered to actually check the validity of the Jewel Quest game as I'd already purchased it. I think it must have been just a day offer, though some of the other downloadable offers such as the web site builder, definitely work as I received a serial number after gong through the simple registration process. Also a couple of the others came with activation codes and download links.

   It does look like it will be worth checking the offers on a daily basis just to be sure. :)

    I wouldn't have included the MyPlayCity games this time last year but they have cleaned up their act big time. Now they are basically the same sort of site as Gametop. You still get the option of installing their tool bar and having your browser set to MyPlayCity, but so long as you ensure you uncheck the little boxes that you'll see during installation, you'll get the full game with only the browser opening on closure. I should post these in a seperate thread as I didn't real;ize there were so many match three games available for free. I'd say the ones marked with **** are the best.

    I downloaded Jewel Match okay, but found that it is a 60 minute trial. I thought those software giveaways would be full versions, but maybe not, after all.

    Sue, I trust that Alex is on top of this and the old giveaways don't work. As he said, you didn't see the Jewel Match because it was on the German site. And your right, the US arm of AvanQuest doesn't seem to be participating.

    I'm going to post each day I can throughout the promotion.
    I'll post from all the language sites because it seems likely most of the software has multi-language support.
    Today's (10th) offers:
    UK - a promo code for 5 pounds off on Space Station Sim.
    German - 50% off on Registry First Aid Platinum
    The Italian, and Spanish, sites seem to be offering 50% off on anything (or maybe everything, I don't how often you can use it) with a promo code. This add, with the same artwork has replaced the Xmas calendar. The French are offering 30%. The weird thing is they have countdown clocks that seems like it's not available all day, even though the adds all say 24 hours. The Italian and Spanish clocks say there's only an hour and a half left, and the French says 3 and a half hours. That's from my posting time at 10:30 EST - 14:30 GMT. I know enough about international time zones to know it's still the middle of the day in all these countries. Maybe you've got to activate before the clock runs out, but get 24 hours after that. (?)

    I'll try to check back later to see what happens after the times expire.

    Okay, here's the straight dope. White Rabbit was right. Shocking, I know. :) There appears to be no hurry as all the giveaway's should be good for the duration of the special. I just succesfully installed one of the UK giveaways. So I'll be posting the rest of the non-English sites giveaways.

    A couple of notes, first. Alex, I got Website X5 to work. The instructions are incomplete. You have to use the unlock code button to go to the developers website and also give them your name/email. The code AvanQuest gave you is the product code. Incomedia sends you the unlock code, if you want to go that far. Sorry, Sue, I meant Azteca's on the German site. The reason Alex ended up with the trial version of JewelMatch is because that's what they offered. An available anywhere 60 minute demo version. It's says so right in AvanQuest's confirmation e-mail, with no mention of an activation code. (?!?) It doesn't appear AvanQuest is too diligent (honest?) about their offerings. Number 6 on White Rabbit's UK giveaway list, Fix It Express 7, has been free everywhere since at least April and probably will be free from now on. Like Fix It, some of these are older versions. Number 8 on his list is Driver Genius 8, and appears to be a full download, not an online scan. Though that's what is says on AvanQuest, exactly as Stephen quoted it.

    Right now I can only post the German promotions. Referring to what I said previously today, the Italian, Spanish, and French clocks have all magically reset themselves and so their 50/30% discounts have at least another 20 hours to go. I'm certain now this is on all the software on those sites. I hope AvanQuest doesn't start offering timer software. I'll be buying that. ;)

    I tried the Driver Genius 8 download, and did a scan with it, but to do anything useful with the results I would have had to buy a licence for the software. So, although it was a full download, it didn't come with a licence key.

    The German CHIP magazine is running a similar calendar, and they have offered a full version of Driver Genius 7.

    It is difficult at times to know what exactly you are getting before you download and install, but there are occasional (rare) gems.

    Thanks Watcher for the update on the Website X5, I now got it to work. Great that it still works.
    I wrote the German site an e-mail about their "unprecise" offering re the two games and they confirmed that the second game was only a time-limited version, in other words a 60 min. demo.
    Anyway, just makes one appreciate more the in general fantastic work GOTD is doing with offering different programs every day -
    I'll still be checking the various sites, in the link mentioned at the very beginning just substitute the number after country as follows: 1= French Site, 2= German Site, 3= Eng. UK, 4 = Spanish Site, 5 = Italian Site

    I'm just being lazy at the moment. I'm overloaded with web pages and just want to turn the darned thing off. I thought it would be interesting to see if the reg code you get with the German version of PC Booster would work with an english Version. If anyone has saved the url for the download site would you post it here. I'll propbably follow it up tomorrow at some point if no one has the address. :)

    No, Emperor I think you solved the mystery surrounding WhiteRabbit's free online scan. Yep, they gave us a free online scan, by giving us the eval. download. From a review I read on Driver Genius, it sounds exactly like what the eval. can and can't do. Boy, some of these bargains are really bargains. LOL

    Case in point: today's German giveaway is the eval. version of Perfect Image 11. At least, if I'm right in interpreting the "German" word Testversion. The English giveaway is a Harry Potter Screensaver (ooh! a screen saver. Oh well, might be good for the kids who are Harry fans). As I said, I can't report on the other 3 sites, because they're still doing their 24 hour countdowns, which will probably last in excess of 24 hrs. Yes, I know it's tomorrow in Europe. It's apparently not tomorrow in Avanquest land. What are these people smoking, anyway. Hey folks, looking for a job at a computer software house that actually NEEDS computer professionals. Think I know where you can find one.

    Whabbit, as you can see, I'm pretty thick. URL for the download site? I thought the link Alex posted is the download site. I'm surely missing something.

    The Avanquest download "Perfect Image 11" is only an evaluation version. (Forget it - LOL)
    The 11. download at

    is the full and registered version of "Advanced Archive Password Recovery". You get an Reg-key with the download, but that is the key for the professional Version - you get 30% rebate when buying that upgrade.
    I have installed it - the program is (mostly) German, but the Help is in English.

    Hi Ornithos, thank you for your response re Jewel Match. I did download it on the correct day, but it was still only a 60minute trial. Oh well, I've got over it now, lol. Particularly since WR has given us some more free match 3 games, and there are a couple in there that I didn't have, Thanks Stephen.

    Sorry about the late reply, I am usually being kicked off the net as soon as I manage to get on for some strange reason known only to Vodafone, and I was at the internet cafe yesterday for a brief time, to catch up with forum threads and do a bit of downloading. Now, its my turn to get behind in answering emails, dammit. Hope to be back to normal soon. I have struck a brief window where I have actually stayed on long enough to look at this thread and reply to it. Its midnight here in NZ, time for bed now.

    The other 3 have posted their giveaways for the 11th. Not sure whether there's anything fully free or not.

    The Spanish site is offering Registry First Aid 6. The download button translates to "repaired for free registration of your PC", so unsure if this is a full download or not. Not going to test every download. Please post if you can shed any light.

    The Italian site is offering Connection Manager. Their button translates to "free download" and nothing else seems to specify, so can't determine whether this is a full version or not.

    The French site is clearly only offering a 30 day trial version of Media Monkey.

    I'd listed the 9th in the initial post and the 10th later. Since all the old giveaways are still good, I wonder if the 50% off on everything offered on the 10th on the Italian and Spanish sites, and the 30% on the French site are still valid, but I don't it. They said 24 hr. limit.

    Been looking at the German Chips magazine Advent calendar downloads that NBL mentioned in his posts. Some of them are one day only, but there's a lot of German software still available, a couple of German E-Books, and a couple of free special issues of Chip, and one program in English that might still be available:

    The text says it was only available for one day, but, unlike the other one day only offers, this one still downloads. It contains a key in the key.txt document in the zip. It's possible the key may no longer work. Might be worth a try.

    Chip also has a seperate section of 3 dozen Xmas wallpapers that some might find interesting. Some in English. A South Park and a couple of Simpsons. And a few that the male users of these forums might find...well...stimulating.
