Many people had problems downloading and installing Sunday's free game, "East Side Story". For them, I present "Free Games Story". In other words, here are some free games that you can download and setup with ease. I highly recommend all five of these games.

This first game is called "TWISTER". You control a tornado, picking up items as called for, and generally wreaking havoc. Categories of items to grab are vehicles, livestock, people, buildings and trees. The graphics on this game are very nice. And you can't help but like a game where people, when picked up by a tornado scream, "Whoopee!!!"

At the following link, go to the lower right side of the page where it says "Play Offline". There is a download link there.

Next is "ACES HIGH OVER VERLOR ISLAND". This is a nice little arcade shooter, with nice graphics. You get to fly a bi-plane, using very easy control methods (and you don't even have to worry about altitude). The tutorial is quite helpful in learning to fly. Check this one out!

"REBOUND REVOLUTION" is a platform game with a difference. You play as a bouncing ball. It is very entertaining, and has over 50 levels. (WARNING: This game may not work on VISTA unless you have a GameMaker converter.) Here is the link:

I'm not sure I can properly describe this next game. "NETSTORM" is a battle game, taking place on floating islands. Excellent graphics and very entertaining gameplay. And it's just plain cool to look at!

This game is called "CaiCar Jongg", but I don't really consider it a mah-jongg game. A parking lot is packed, and you have to remove the cars two-at-a-time. However, they can only drive out the bottom of the lot, so many times you must plan your strategy ahead. This game has over 100 levels. I have only played a few so far, and they were somewhat challenging.....progressively getting harder.

I have been having a wonderful time on YoYoGames this evening (here in NZ it is evening), and I've downloaded as many games as I can on dialup. I'm looking forward to downloading many more. What a wonderful site this is. I've also downloaded CaiCar Jongg and Rebound Revolution and will get around to downloading your other 2 game suggestions tomorrow.

Thank you so much Dan for these links. I am going to have a wonderful time playing these games.

  10. Not sure if I can do this, but i expect it will get deleted if I'm not suppose to.
I am going to recommend this game site. I will be truthful and tell you that there is a very small amount of advertisement , but for what little there is it is made up for the games they offer. You can download and play full size games like, Big City Adventure: Diner Dash; Blood Ties; Atlantis Quest; Dream Chronicles; Chocolatier; Slingo Quest; Space Invaders; Maelstorm: Family Feud; Flip Word; ect...No viruses or spyware, family friendly ,no time limits, 100+ free, premium games! I have used this site for over a year , they have never spammed me and i have never had problems. Let me know what you think please.

Glad to see that people are enjoting the game links!

Many of the games on YOYO are made with Game Maker. The newer games, made with Game Maker 7.0 work on Vista. But any downloadable games on that site that were made with
Game Maker 6.x will NOT work on Vista. However, I found a nifty litle program that makes them playable if you have Windows Vista.

The program is called "GM Converter", and it is very simple to use. After downloading a game, if you try to open the .exe file, but nothing happens, then the game is most like a GM6.x game. All you have to do is open your GM Converter, drop the .exe file into the GM Converter window, click enter, and viola! Instant Vista compatiblity! The converter now shows TWO .exe files in it. The original (labeled as such), and the new file which is compatible with Vista. Place both those files back into the game folder, and use the new one to access the game.

Make sure that when you move the two .exe files back into the game folder, you leave the GM_Convert_Game file in the game converter window. I accidently moved it into a game folder once, then had to go searching for it the next time I needed to convert a game.

This may sound complicated, but it is much, much easier than the description above. If I can do it, anyone can! -Dan

Duh! I guess I really should have put a link for the converter in the previous posting. I'm only 52, but I think my brain is about 110.

i'm not sure if this one has been posted before (i might have posted it myself):

    AGS games

it is similar to yoyogames in that these are all games made with AGS (adventure game studio)and most, if not all, are submitted by amateurs.

there are some really excellent games here. they are pretty much all adventure point and clickers. they are sorted into lots of categories, often by size, so it's easy to find smaller downloads.

a lot of the games were submissions for themed contests. these contests have very strict rules so it's interesting to see what people have done.

just as an example, here are the rules for this months contest (there are also archives and it is one of the categories):

This month is about 'Love Is In The Air'
    rules: TwinMoon

These are the guidelines for MAGS competition 2008-04:
It's springtime! The season of rejuvenation - trees start to blossom and the world awakens after its wintery sleep.
It's also the season where it's getting warmer: girls start wearing short skirts again and guys start wearing tight t-shirts again.

Which brings me to the following rules:
    1. The main character in your game must fall in love.
    2. There must be a ladybug in your game. (It doesn't have to be any part of the story or a puzzle, just put one or more in there somewhere. And since I like ladybugs, it's not allowed to let the player kill any).

Your game should include at least two things from the following list:
    - a valentine card arriving too late
    - blossom (in a tree, in someone's hair, in your inventory, use your imagination!)
    - a bird's nest with an egg in it
    - a common snowdrop (flower)
    - a poem or some lines of poetry being read out loud
    - an inventory item having something to do with Romeo & Juliet (a DVD, a book, a costume for Romeo)

(By the way, it's National Poetry Month in America in April, you might do something with that.)

Make sure you have a good obstacle which prevents the lovers from being together; like a protective dad, the girl playing hard to get or a canal which prevents the lovers from reaching each other.

    GAME DISCOVERY OF THE DAY!

If you like puzzle or logic games, you NEED this game!

LINX is not only a truly great puzzle game, but you can also create your own levels. Then you can easily and quickly upload them. You can also just as easily download new levels. I have created three new level today and uploaded them to the site. That means if you get this game, you will be able to play levels that I have created.....even if they aren't that hard! And maybe I can play some levels that YOU create!

You may need to use the GM CONVERTER I described in a previous post in order to play this game using Vista.

There are 40 Original levels in this game, and over 100 total.

I would try to describe this game, but you'd be better off just seeing it for yourself. Have fun! -Dan

Do you long for the days when all you had to do was lounge around in your cave and occasionally go out and pick berries or throw rocks at dinosaurs? If so, then you will love CAVEMAN CRAIG, which was just recently created for a competition, and uploaded to to the following site on April 20th:

    http://64digits.com/games/index.php?cmd=view_game&id=4744

The following is a description from the creator:

"Caveman Craig is a unique, humorous sim game in which you need to breed, train, and protect other cavemen, who perform various tasks to keep your cave alive and thriving. You need to protect your cave from various threats such as carnivores, opposing cavemen tribes, and ultimately, the Tyrannosaurus Rex. As your cave grows, you will receive bonuses, larger threats, and as a result the game will become more tense and fast-paced. The game was created in GM 7.0." (This means it will also work with Windows Vista).

I just discovered this game, and have played it just a little, but it looks like a winner to me. The graphics are cartoonish, which I always like, and there is humor, which is another plus. And for you ladies out there, here is a perfect opportunity to see what your husband's lifestyle was like BEFORE you met him!

Caveman Craig is my free game of the day for April 23rd. Now go get it and have fun! (No dinosaurs were harmed in the making of this game). -Dan

    * 50 sometimes very hard levels
    * Autosave
    * Editor
    * Online highscores

Here's a free game for Friday. THE TOWER has you building towers of differing heights, using different types of stone. The towers get tougher as you advance, and for the taller towers you must build a good, stable base. I noticed that as you build taller towers, an effect that might be wind seems to cause the tower to move slightly, making it tougher to build. This game was just submitted this week to the website. I have tried it, and I found that even as soon as the fourth tower, things were getting tough.

It's a free game, so why not give it a try.

Here's a free game for Monday. It's called CRAB BLASTER, and once again it is from those great up-and-coming game makers at 64Digits. This is the description from the site:

"Crab Blaster is a puzzle game with some platforming and shooting in the mix. Use 3 different types of ammo, explosives, special blocks, chain reactions and gravity shifting to reach the exit of each level. Win achievements to unlock new levels, areas and mini games."

I played this game long enough to decide to keep it on my PC. I like the little crab, which is really more like a tiny robotic thing. This is a good little puzzle game.....just make sure you don't waste ammo knocking down blocks.....they only give you enough to solve the level

This game works fine on my Vista system.

Here is a FREE game for Tuesday (okay, so I'm 5 minutes early).....CRAYON PHYSICS. You have GOT to check this one out! Everything in the game looks like it was drawn with crayons. There is a red ball, and you have to maneuver it over to a yellow star. The great thing about this game is that you DRAW rectangles on the game to get the ball to move. Here is how they describe it:
    _________________________

"You play with crayons and physics. The goal of the game is to move the red ball so that it hits the stars. You can cause the red ball to move by drawing physical objects. With left mouse button you can draw and with right you can remove objects."
    _________________________

If you find the game easy, try playing it without ever using your right mouse button to remove objects. C'mon.....I dare you!

Supposedly the maker of this game is working on a retail version with a lot more levels. Until then, here is the link:

    http://www.kloonigames.com/blog/games/crayon

The download link is just under the three screenshots of the game. I have managed to complete all the levels, but it isn't that easy.

Okay.....so today's (Thursday, May 01) giveaway software wasn't something that would really appeal to the average user.

How about if I help make up for that by not offering a link to one game, or two games, or even three games......but FOUR games!

CHROMATRON is a game of colorful lasers and mirrors. And it has 50 levels. Here is a short description from the web site:

"Four free games of laser beams and mirrors, for the Windows PC and Mac OS X. Features 200 levels of fun, 50 in each game! No cost, no ads, no popups, just a game that will absorb as much time as you're willing to spend on it. "

This link will take you to all four download links to:

    CHROMATRON
    CHROMATRON 2
    CHROMATRON 3
    CHROMATRON 4

(Yes, they even work with VISTA)

That's four games with a total of 200 levels! And there is even a link under those, where you can just download ONE ZIP FILE with all four games in it.

So, if you'd like the pleasure of shooting lasers, without the guilt of remembering your Mother saying, "You're gonna put someone's eye out!", then why not try this puzzle game.

FREE GAME for Tuesday, May 5th (yes, I know I was in the wrong month last night!): SPHERINTH. Here is a description from the game creator:
    ________________________________________________________

Spherinth is a mouse controlled level based game.
Go through levels solving puzzles, unlocking gates, dodging enemys and more.
What seems like a simple mouse manuevering game turns into a crazy struggle to beat each level.
Complete with around 25 challenging levels, 4 boss fights, hidden secrets and a whole lot of fun.

SPHERINTH is a good game, and there are a lot of secrets you must learn as you play, in order to advance to later levels.

WARNING: This game will not work with VISTA unless you have a GameMaker converter, as described early in this thread. It should work with XP and earlier versions of Windows.

Here is a FREE GAME for Wednesday, May 7th (I think I finally got the day AND date right!)

FALLING TROY is a game just put on line yesterday. Kind of tough to describe, but I will try. First, the graphics are GREAT! You control a Roman guy who can run and jump. You are in an area that looks like a Tetris type area. There are three columns where objects fall. These objects look like beams made of wood, steel, and concrete. if you can line up three or more in a row or a column, you score points and they disappear. However, the way that you MOVE the beams is very novel. You must jump onto a beam, then run off one end of it. When you run off one end, the beam moves the opposite direction onto the next column. Learning how to do this just right takes a while, but I think it is worth it.

This game was challenging for me, and I think you will like it, as it is something different. FALLING TROY works on VISTA, as well as earlier Windows systems.
