i have a question about the system requirements, though. it says you must be able to support OpenGL. what is that?

iirc pixel shader 2 came in about the nvidia geforce fx5200's, ati it looks like radeon x800's- opengl is above 1.4 on those and later gpu's.
it specifies opengl 1.4 or better, so an ati 9550 or geforce 4 is sol, period, and it takes a x800 or fx5200 (or will not render trees and grass) absolute minimum. or, getting to the last of the agp 8x cards.
I have an fx5700 with 128 megs, 512 meg ram, the hdd space, directx 9c and a 2ghz cpu... but I'm not bothering to download as I don't have WinXP, just 2k. the hardware is ok but the os sinks me.
suggested is a serious gaming rig- I'd guess a medium-strong PCI-Express video card and a system to match- 2 gig memory, pixel shader 4, yadda yadda.

If you register an account - I don't think the boosters would "expire" - if you have the account and boosters, but didn't get to install the client when the giveaway is over - that might still be OK.
I think the time limit is only on creating your account.
(I'll check on that).

I think with 64MB of shared video memory you would be pushing you-know-what uphill. :(
Your boosters are linked to your account, not to your computer. So I don`t see any problem here.

thanks, BuBBy- but the time frame is probably in years. like, about the time microsoft quits supporting XP, so maintaining an account would be pointless for a game nobody here would likely play.
that wasn't a complaint, just overtired ramblings.
I'm still wondering how long before the authentication servers disappear for XP.

Don't click on "register". click on "redeem free boosters".

Bubby......I went to the website and it accepted my login but when I try to run the game from my desktop icon it says the pw is incorrect for that ID. On hubby's it's the same ID & PW for both so why won't mine work? Also I still get the "Build 137.5 (at least I think that was the number) every time I start the game. Should it do that every time. After the build I get a "Launch" button which takes me to the login page that won't let me login.....UGH!
Whiterabbit....sounds like maybe we're having the same problem?

OK guys....here's the lowdown on what I found. The reason I couldn't login is b/c my password was one character too long (took me a while to figure that one out). Apparently the online login allows larger pw's. So I created a whole new account with a different email and all and finally got in!
Now, I don't know if it's just me, but I'm not getting an option to redeem my booster packs when I start the game from my desktop but I do get it online. Here's what I did.....after creating your account close the game and go to the Saga website at Saga. You'll be on a page with a video, above the video there's a "community site" link. Click the link and it takes you to the Forums page with a Saga "gameboard". On the top right of the game board there's a "My Nation" button, click it and you'll be at the login page. Save that to your favorites so you don't have to go through all the links next time. Login and you'll be on a Saga gameboard that is open to the "Buy boosters" page. At the top it will say "Unregistered" there's a register button.....don't click that button, you don't need to register, unless you want to of course, but then you have to pay. Below that is an option that says "Free Boosters 3 of 3" and there's a "Redeem" button to the right. Click that button to get your booster pack. (NOTE: You can only get one pack per day so you'll get the first one now and you'll have to go back tomorrow for the second and so on.) Once you do this you can go logoff, then go back to your desktop and start the game. Your new booster pack items will now be there.
Hope this helps somebody.......anybody! :)

I have a spare graphics card that has pixel shader 2. It may even have PS3, which you can have for free if you wish. Just Email me if you're interested. I did offer it twice before but the first person never got back to me and the second (a well known forum friend here, declined it. It's an AGP card, with 128Mb of graphics memory, so it should see you through for a while.

p.s. I seem to be able to redeem all of my boosters, not one eah day as some suggest; am I'm doing something wrong? Also within the ten packs that I've opened, human archers, human pikemen and a couple of others have been repeated at least three or four times over the ten sets of ten units. If any SAGA admins read this, does this mean that I have four armies of these races, or is it just the luck of the draw? Thanks.

Update: Maintenance is now complete!
We've decided to perform an unscheduled maintenance to the servers today. While this may have been an inconvenience to many of you we hope you'll understand why we did. This update is a small fix which we hope will resolve many big issues. While we can't declare victory yet we've managed to eliminate a few key crash issues internally at our offices. We're crossing our fingers that the changes will result in the client being far more stable when leaving battles for all users. Among the potential fixes are:
Adjusted the manner in which we manage memory within SAGA - memory should now be less fragmented and significantly more efficient in most cases.
Potentially resolved a longstanding issue which could cause battles to crash at the portal.
Potentially resolved an issue which could cause battles to crash when trying to return to domain mode (also known as the after survey crash).
Units can now be sent properly to and from the safe-land territories.
Fixed another issue regarding opening game slots in the battle finder GUI.

Welcome to SAGA update 137.4! We're still heavily focused on identifying and knocking out the remaining crash issues affecting some of you. We made very significant strides this week and we're pretty excited - with a little luck we should be able to finish off most (if not all) of them for next weeks update (or sooner if possible). We're all very excited about being able to get back to normal here at the office - it's far more exciting to be adding in new content and game features/improvements rather than focusing on fixing stability. Other than stability fixes the primary updates are regarding raiding mechanics. There are some future changes coming up that will continue to adjust how raids work, but for now we hope these adjustments will alleviate most of the potential exploitation and allow those who aren't interested in player vs. player conflict a way to avoid it more easily. Please also note that we've removed the manashard costs from all territory advancement. With that all said here's a list of this weeks more relevant changes:
FIXES AND UPDATES
Units will now use their special abilities when defending your wilderness territories during a raid.
God favor is again properly removed when going on raids.
Raiding now requires at least one of your territories to have two full health manashard mines on it. The raid timer is also limited by the number of manashard mines on your territory with the most mana mines plus 1 minute.
Manashard mines now produce at a reduced rate when damaged.
Wilderness territories can now be returned to the safe lands. Doing so will sell all gold mines, lumber mills, stone quarries, manashard mines, and your Keep. All units on the territory will also be disbanded according the the keep changes.
Arrows on graveyard window no longer affect chat.
Selecting the Objectives window before a battle begins will no longer crash the client.
Trade notes are now restricted to 60 characters.
Resolved an issue with upkeep that could prevent a player from connecting to the game.
Fixed an issue where peasant militia could not be deactivated properly before a PVP game had begun.
Units which are holding ground no longer have an infinite range.
Storehouse bonus for building information now always displays correctly.
When a keep is destroyed, the units on that territory will now be disbanded instead of being lost to the void.
Optimized RAM usage related to how textures were being stored.
Added better log output regarding memory related issues.
Adjusted the offset for the projected textures to help prevent collision with the terrain on lower end video cards.
Battle finder should no longer allow players to open up slots improperly.

BALANCE CHANGES
We weren't able to get as much balance work done as we'd hoped this week. We've all been so focused on helping track down the remaining crash issues that we weren't able to spend as much time as we'd anticipated on balance. However, we did manage to get a number of things adjusted and we'll continue to adjust as things progress. We're currently assessing things such as PVP stats, quest stats, and other numerous data sources to gather a fuller understanding of how things are currently performing in SAGA. Over the next several weeks and months there will be continuous adjustment as we tighten things down. With today's update the most notable adjustments are probably those made to how stuns and paralization work - in all cases the max duration was significantly reduced. Most other changes were minor and are as follows:

The Servers will be brought down on Thursday April 3rd between the hours of 10AM and 2PM CST. The expected downtime is about 2 hours.
The extra day will allow us to finish testing of a couple fixes that will improve stability and performance.
This patch contains balance changes to units as well as multiple new quests including a new Heroic quest for the Brotherhood and a high level Heroic quest, available to all Factions.

I got the the page asking me to pay and it said 10 booster packs....so I clicked on it. That's probably what WR did, I'm assuming. All 10 came up on another page, and it says double click to reveal or reveal all. But now what? And what do they mean? I turned over 1 and it gave me an archer. But how to get into the game from here, and where will the booster cards go? This is more work than it was to do LOTR Return to Middle Earth. I just don't know what to do now, and there is only 6h and 57m to go in today. I was hoping to start setting things up today.

i also redeemed all my booster packs at once (actually one at a time). i redeemed pack, sorted and revealed them all, then hit redeem pack again and repeated the process until the redeem button was gone.
i must say it is very confusing to start this game, it's been trial and error to figure this all out.
