I've decided to start posting details of one Freeware game as often as I can, hopefully one every day until FreewareFan returns with the project he had started a few weeks ago, as I'm getting serious withdrawal symptoms, lol. I will test each game before I post details of it to ensure there is no malware etc, and to ensure that they do work and have some interest. Though I probably wont have time to do a full review. In fact I’ll copy whatever details I find on the sites where I find these games, rather than spend the time writing my own words; well most of the time anyway.

I may not be able to post one every day because I've resumed my role as a map tester over on the BF2 Mercenaries site,(after several months break, testing maps for the recently released Crysis game as well as other Beta test duties at Alawar and elsewhere for Battlefield 2. Also I want to continue with my regular reviews here on the giveaway project which will still take precedence over any Freeware posts I make.

The first game to be added will be a game I’ve mentioned in the comments section several times over the last year and it belongs to my favorite arcade genre The Arkanoids. It's called Poing. Don’t let the name put you off, lol

Whiterabbit.. I downloaded and extracted the zip file for Poing, and when I clicked on the .exe command, a box popped up saying "Memory access violation" and wouldn't start. What could that be?

Maybe I should do a write-up on each of the top 3 SHMUP-DEV contest winners for the past four contests. That would be nice, as shoot-em-ups are generally ignored on this site.

  4. I love SHMUP's also if you have time, could you find the newest good text adventures... I love them too.

Sure. The IFComp and Text the Halls just finished, I'll review those games as well as I can.

"copmom" ... I've the same problem as you.
    "Memory Access Violation" ...
At least there's no 24 hour deadline.
Here's a 2 for 1 deal to help 2 people with one answer.

    Known Bugs
IMPORTANT: Poing cannot be run in a limited account of Windows XP! (you’ll encounter an access violation error if you try). Because of the way the game writes hiscores and levels in the level editor, Poing must be run in an unrestricted user or administrator account

Thanks "goodgotd". Since there's not a time deadline; I'll log-on as "Administrator".
    I'm using XP-SP2. Thanks !

Thanks Stephen, for the new Freeware Games thread. While people are sorting out the download issues for the "real" games, I thought I'd offer one of my favorites for those who are starting to feel "withdrawl" symptoms from lack of new games to play.

If you need a quick fix, try:

    http://www.miniclip.com/games/roly-poly/en/

It's free, it's safe and best of all, it's fun!

    Enjoy

    Johnny Appleseed's back with a forum - http://www.nordinho.net/index.php

Face, fwiw I'm a fan of the miniclips site and awhile back I posted a link to an amusing little series there called Sling, but can't find my post now! (I think BubbyCo ate it)

There are several games in the series, and as I recall, even an option to download zip files to play some of them offline if you go to a different site. Try:
    SLING,
SLINGjr (for a quick game during coffee breaks),
    SLINGette (perfect for the ladies),
    SLINGoween BOOO!, and
    SLINGFire.

Wow, I cut & pasted that awfully fast... hope those hyperlinks work.

thank you face and "the magi"-

nordinho is an awesome site. they have games for everyone.

another really great site (although smaller than nordinho) is: http://lazylaces.com/
it mostly point and click/escape the room type games (which i happen to love) and is run by a really nice brit who recently moved to my side of the pond and married a nice american girl. he's just back from his honeymoon, so the site, which had been on a small hiatus, is now back. (how's that for an example of one of my funkyfamous run-on sentences?) the site also has a great archive.

oh man-no! i'm barely crawling out of a long (not so great, as it turns out) marriage. i am nowhere near the honeymoon state, and currently cannot even imagine getting there again.

i just really like the site.

    p.s. check your e-mail :)

I hadn't seen Sling before - it's definitely another keeper. And speaking of marriage, I think Sling and the Roly Poly hedgehog make an adorable couple.

Sorry if I haven't replied to anyone I've been preoccupied with Beta testing custom maps for Crysis as well as a Battlefield 2 mod called Marines that is very near release. Also I've been doing a big clean up of all my HDD's (around 16)
, trying to gather all my documents into one file all my favorite links and other stuff that's got scattered over the last year. Anyway, I've just spent the best part of my early morning sleep time on a new Freeware post. The theme is Wheeled games. You can find it by following the link below:

I don't know what the poblem could be Graylox? Try redownloading it and installing it to a different folder. In the meantime I'll see if there are anymore download links. You may need to remind me though as I easily forget these days as I too am part of the 50's brigade, though only just lol {51}).

Lockett - that's a great idea. I'd love to write some up myself, but just don't have the time. It's great that you are willing to spend time doing this as well, and a job worth doing is always donequicker by two. I look forwards to seeing your reviews. A couple of the games I posted in via the following link should be included in your space shootem up's, for example Fraxy:

Hi,White Rabbit nice you are thinking of me!
Do you mean my problems with some of the Realore Games ?
I downloaded and installed them several times, even the GameTop download (Azteca) gave the same result.
The background pictures are not shown, music and sound o.k., you can read the menue, you have the cursor and perhaps you can find a clickable point. The game is running but no pictures are seen. With other games the splashscreen looks like a folded blind on the left side of the screen.

err... dumb thought- pure backwoods WAG- possibly related, since I felt pretty D'oh! when somebody pointed it out in a drive-by fruiting related to some utilities not fitting in the allotted (non-resizable) window...

Do the symptoms change if you change the screen DPI? As in, change from large fonts to small in desktop properties>settings>advanced>I don't recall what tab?? (IIRC that's 120 dpi to 72 dpi...)
