I realize this is the middle of January, but better late than never. It will probably carry over well into February, but I don't foresee any problems with that either.

So, here's the plan. Every day, for at least the next 50 days, I intend to post a new and exciting free game entry. I'll share a short little synopsis of the day's offering, and provide a link to where it can be had. I won't even attempt to do a game review, like Stephen does, but only to provide a small description to indicate what kind of game it is.

Mind you, I'm in no way trying to compete with GGAOTD, not at all! Rather, I would like this to be viewed as an augment to their fine offerings. So now, at least for the next few weeks, you faithful forum members can look forward to having a double dose of gaming experiences. A commercial offering from GGAOTD and a freeware offering in this thread.

Oh, and I should give credit where credit is due... The name of this thread has been kindly provided by our own LeKanaw! :-)

Right then, let's get things rolling!

Today we have a game that will probably go commercial in the near future. But for now, there's no need to get change for a dollar in order to have fun. The name is Gal Ex: Spatial Delivery.

"You and your gelatinous buddy Goup are partners in the interstellar delivery business. Goup can do all sorts of useful things, like form huge arms to wallop enemies or bounce around the world. That's especially handy when your delivery ship crash-lands on a backwater world teeming with angry robots."

So, head on over to www.ruleofthumb-games.co.uk and see if you can live with having another game on your computer.... :-)

    Enjoy the journey!

  3. Hey there FF :)

I can't find anywhere on that site to download the game itself. All I can find is the instructions download link. Where did you find a link to the actual game?

    Posted 5 months ago #
  4. It is mentioned in the paragraph before the "instructions download"

'If' I have time I'll even write a review of the game to add to the thread. :)

Todays looks promising. I'm about halfway through downloading the 129Mb of this xip file.

  8. Well, I've dowloaded & installed, tried to play & uninstalled. Guess this isn't very friendly with Vista, not even with compatability mode. Strange though, because I have been able to play probably 95% of games that say aren't good for Vista. Here's one more to fit into that other 5%.

I look forward to the next game posting FF!

Thanks FreewareFan! Looks like a fun game.. just watched the wmv on it. This is nice.. having a 'back up' when GGOTD is down!

@DD Oh man, that's a bummer when Vista won't play nice. Maybe tomorrow's offering will be compatible. We can only hope......

@WR That's a great idea, to include a link to this thread within the reviews that you make! I agree, that might bring some new members in here. Thanks for your support, it means a lot! Maybe we should request that Mr.B buy some new tables and chairs for the bar room, and polish up the glasses he uses, eh? :-)

@copmom You're very welcome! It just might tide you over until tomorrow when GGOTD offers you another commercial one.

Well, I must bow b4 the Master!!
Your sneaky plan is working well, I see! Damn :-(

Steal my title, then give even more freebies and they shall come, showering u w praise!!
I feel abandoned, even WRabbit is on your side.
Bwwwaahahah :-( What is a lonely Kanaw to do?

BTW, I much prefer this new concept of yours. A link AND an explanation. Excellent idea. Bravo! :-)
When there is just link after link, without any clue of what it is, it's much more difficult, too daunting.

So, see u later my friend, must try get some semblance of zzz's.
    Peace. M.

Nah, the Bravo goes to Mr.B. He's been trying to get me to do that for some time now. It's just that on those other program lists I post, I do not have the energy to do a description on each and every one of the entries.

So, rather than not make the post at all, I figure it's better to let the list look "daunting". Then again, some people are adventurous and like to go exploring without a map, you know? Gets the blood pumping and all that, just to see what's around the corner.

OK, glad to hear the meds are finally kicking in and you are getting sleepy. I hope you get some quality rest without the "voices" messing with you too much... LOL

Afraid it didn't tide me over! Found the d/l, unzipped, installed, etc. and then when the .exe was clicked, all I ended up with was a black screen and big white arrow. Had to bring up task manager to get out of it. (WinXP 2nd edition)

I had a similar problem as copmom on two of my computers, though I had a chalky blue screen (not a bsod) I doubt it's a graphics card problem though as one computer has two NVidia 8600 GS 250Mb cards in an SLI configuration and the other has a NVidia 8800GTS 640Mb card. Messing around brought up an error message that said "Can't intialize the scripting engine". There was also an error regarding the reality engine.

I'm wondering whether it's because they are both dual core. When I get around to it I'll load it up onto one of my single cores which are not connected to the net at the moment as I pinched the wireless network cards out of them, lol.

I googled the phrase and it pointed me to some visual basic stuff and possible problems with dynamic link libraries (.dll's), so I started to fall asleep, lol

    Sorry, no review today. :(

I have sent a copy of the error report to the guys who made the game (at their request), so if I do get it resolved 'I'll be back' :)

Thanks WR for the update. I'm wondering how this game got good reviews, when so many here are having problems with it? I'll have to check out the veracity of my source.. :-)

A daily free game with an explanation. Cool idea. Now, if we can getcha to create a standardized framework* for your daily intro, maybe Lekanaw won't carve you up and I won't have to post my link to Seinfeld's Babu saying, "You're a berry berry bad man." :-)

That's way too structured for my tastes, on this forum. I already have that format to work with on another site that I'm part of the moderating team, and that's quite enough work for me there, RM.

When I want to unwind, and just hang out with some friends, I come here, and post what I think might be of use to some folks. I don't look at my posts here as work or effort, just my desire to share with the general population. A nice casual, easygoing, laidback sort of post.

See what I'm getting at, my friend? :-)

Or, to phrase it another way, using another man's words.. " I doan needs no stinkin baj"

For some reason clicking on the edit button takes me to the home page rather than allowing me to edit the above post, so forgive me for two posts in succession. I looked for ter download sites for the game, but ended up reading some of thhe comments from the Dare to be digital forums. From there I downloaded some visual C++ stuff and updated my net framework and now I get a different message. The game still isn't working for me, but I no longer get the chalky blue screen. :)

Unfortunately the Email I posted with details of the error message was returned. So when I have time I will persue this further as from Freeware fans description and what I've read elsewhere, the game looks like a worthwhile download. It's frustrating not getting it to work now though. Anyway, I'm off to play some of the games I bought nearly a year ago, but because of the giveaway project ;) I'm only just starting to play (Armed Assault and Silent Hunter 3) as well as some of the recent game releases such as CoD4 (what amazing visuals, but the game play is too prescriptive for me. I'm glad I got the special edition hich was on offer and was actually significantly less than the standard release, even though it was being sold by the same shop. {I got an excellent ) as well as Crysis (I'm testing some custom maps that a guy has made, but they are not on general release yet)

    I love games :)

Day #2 Offering: Today's offering is a Brain Drain game called Stopple.

"Most good puzzles start with a simple concept. In this case, you need to get a block to drop in a hole. Doesn't sound hard, does it? Yeah, that's what I said about three hours ago when I started playing."

Travel on over to www.boiledsweets.com/Stopple to see if you have what it takes to win..

Hopefully today's offering will be more compatible with most people's systems.. :-)

FwF, funny you should choose Stopple. About a month ago, I learned about a game called BLOXORZ from a now-forgotten poster on this site. I gave it 5 Runes with a Cherry on Top cause it was a real challenge. I managed to get to Level 25 before someone else (ahem) began drowning me in so much freeware, bandwidths around the world are clogging up.

Does BLOXORZ look familiar to you? - http://www.ezone.com/games/bloxorz/gamecode.htm

UPDATE: Ooopsie, I finally got around to reading the intro and find they're related. This is too cool. Everybody ought to give it a whirl. The sound effects are perfect and since Stopple's installable, it means I don't have to go on-line to enjoy.

Your pal with the fingerlicking good popcorn, starting an office pool to see how many people claim they can't install the right DirectX version to run it. :-)

Downloading it now. I'm in dire need of my usual afternoon cat nap (usually lasts for at least 6 hours, lol); so will post a review later this evening, probably when the kids have gone to bed. I'll create a seperate thread though so that we don't get clogged up on this thread. :)

FwF, looks like I'll be first to report problems, likely related to my anachronistic bird & clay tablet video card. Despite tinkering with the initial video options (dumbing it down as much as possible) the cursor acts like a drunken sailor on shore leave, and (he says with a pout) it is forcing me to start all over from Level 1 rather than allow me to go to Level 25 where I left off with the on-line version. It doesn't use the numeric passwords like the on-line version. However, once you make it through to the next level, it retains that so when you launch again, you don't have to start over from scratch. The extra graphics are quite good. 4 Runes & a Cherry Pit.
