Bootfighter Windom (59Mb)
Bootfighter Windom XP SP-2 is a freeware doujin arcade action 3D arena shooter game developed by Y. Kamada. Gameplay is similar to ‘Armored Core’ and features battles of giant robots on 3D arenas. It’s an English translation from Japanese, and has several modes of play available, including online play.

If you have a good fast PC, Team Battle mode and Blitz Tactics mode will be ok, but with a slower PC, you’ll probably want to play using Practice mode or Survival mode as the other modes have too many robots, explosions and things happening that might otherwise slow the game down too much.
You combat your way through 4 different scenarios versus the twelve robots included in the game! Each robot has different abilities to do with their design and although missiles and cannons are the main way of fighting, there’s add-on gear a-plenty too! You can of course transform some 4 of your mech, almost needless to say! Flight and air-to-air battles included! Air-to surface, surface-to-surface and surface-to air play as well! Some weapons suit hand-to-hand combat, while others, depending on the ammo, operate over hundreds of metres!

It’s a brilliant and splendid mech fighter game, something of every boy’s dream, to fight and pit various giant armed mech against each other. It is said that it plays better even than Gundam on the PS2! Ok, are you ready then, missile (mecho pseudo macho!) madness in an urban environment and is your mech the last one left standing? It’s only had a title and single screenshot before on the forum HERE.

The various modes are: Practice mode where the enemy AI is disabled; Survival mode which is you versus two mechs in a 2 onto 1 mêlée; then it gets altogether better if your PC can handle it, Team Battle mode where you pit your army of mechs against another mech army; Blitz Tactics modes where as well as the two mech armies, there are enemy mech warships too, as if mech massacre wasn’t enough!; Online contest mode, where you can have the satisfaction of destroying your friend’s mech if he doesn’t get you first! This can be played multi-player if you wish. There’s also an option for custom pilot creation based on your own avatar pics and different voiced effects. I have included a link to one particular custom mod.

Animations, lighting and the shiny armor mech models are absolutely fantastic; and the game has had many updates to fine-tune its gameplay and performance. Music and sound excel to match. It requires at least DirectX 9.0c and you will need to install MS .Net 2.0 if not already installed on your computer. It is suggested that you have updated versions of your DirectX and graphics drivers. Despite its title, the game should play on XP, Vista and Win 7. For Vista and Win 7 use 'custom install' and install to eg C:\Games not to C:\Program Files, and once installed right click and select 'run as administrator' to play in Vista.
You can find a full run-down of the controls at the Caiman site HERE.
This is high-powered fast action fun in all the best senses! It’s nothing if not highly spectacular, and brilliant entertainment!

Please don’t blame me when you stay up half the night, or all night playing this for the first time! It is excellent almost beyond compare, and stands up very well alongside expensive commercial offerings. For a freebie, it is really, as in really exceptional!
You know you want to blow up all your friends’ mech armies!
