@ Igor:
"Somehow, after installing the program I have an English interface in context menu but a friend of mine has a Russian one. I want my Dad to install FolderIco but he doesn't understand English".

Go to control panel - "region&language" - formats and choose the appropriate format.e.i.Russian
(I had to go for English-US to have an English context menu of FolderIco)

I would like to... suggest an idea
When Coloring a short cut, it only colors the target folder. would be nice if it colored the folder and the shortcut :)

Thank you GOTD for this giveaway !!! I had been using this for a year now but by mistake I uninstalled it 2 months back.Since then I realized how organized and easy this one kept the folders in my PC.I had no difficulty in locating each one.The colors always caught my eye.

Frankly speaking,of course you could get along without this but once you use it you get to know the difference!

Hi All, Well, I installed FolderIco 1.0 On a Windows 7, 64 Bit, AMD Black 6 Core Bulldozer @ 3.4 GHz (Not Over clocked) With 16GBs of RAM PC! With No problems at all! Registration took only a Couple of seconds and everything works great! It should be noted that there is NO Launch Icon for the desktop with this nice little Application, The only folder in the Windows "All Programs" is for a link to TeoreX (The Creators) Web site, And the Uninstall program should you wish to uninstall the application. FolderIco does NOT need to be launched! You simply right click on a folder that you would like to customize and in the window the opens when you "Right Click on an Icon" you will see a selection for "Change Icon" in the listings! Simply "Mouse Over" The "Change Icon" Listing and another little window will open with a selection of colors that you can change the selected folder too! Simply click on the color you like or want to change the selected folder to, And your done! There is also 2 additional folder listings above the color options that open when you "Mouse Over" Them and they open to give you a custom selection of icons that you may change your folder to, for a special folder for "Work" related folders like "Pending" files etc. Or, "Every Day" Folders like "Games Or Downloads" etc.
All and All FolderIco Is a very handy little app that does not remain in memory and uses very little space on you HDD! Makes finding folders that you may use all the time or frequently very easy and fast! I know lots of users start complaining about the price! But, Really? $20.00 Bucks?! Yeah maybe it should be $9.99?! But in my testing today the program is bug free! Does everything its supposed to and does it fast and easy! It's been my experience that a lot of "FREE" Software can be buggy or not work all that well! Not always! I have gotten a lot of Good Software that is shareware or Free where but they usually ask for donations and anyone that has the knowledge and ability to write good software or applications? Should be compensated for there time and effort! If its something that I can use and it works good! I usually donate a few dollars to the Author! Its just the right thing to do! Even Kids expect an allowance for doing chores! So, Whats the problem? Anyway! I'm on a Fixed income! Semi-retired! But I can still find a few bucks to pay for a good application that I need! But, That's not even the issue here on GOTD! as FolderIco is FREE today! So, FREE alternatives is nice to have and I do save the links, Sometimes! To check them out at a later date! But as it has been brought up so many times! Everyday! We are here to revue and report our likes and dislikes with TODAY'S GOTD! It is FREE TODAY!

So, For my 2 Cents! Oh yeah inflation! OK! For my 5 Cents! (Thanks #21 tc1uscg, For the update! (o; ) FolderIco 1.0 is a good little utility that does everything its supposed to and does it fast and its fun! And! Its FREE! Today anyway thanks to the good people at GOTD! It may not be for everyone and that's a choice the everyone needs to make for themselves! So, If you need, Or would like to have some thing like FolderIco? I would download it today and try it for your self! It adds a little color to your explorer folders and makes for a better mood! I only just tried it today! and I really like it! I don't know why I haven't tried something like FolderIco before now?! I can find the folders that I uses many times a day as fast as explorer opens! Its brightened up my boring explorer menu! And the rest of the time you don't even know you have it! Very Nice! (o;

I give FolderIco 1.0, 2 Thumbs Up! Thanks go to TeoreX for allowing there FolderIco 1.0 Application to be offered for FREE on GOTD! And Always special Thanks to GOTD for all there work to bring us users all the applications they do everyday! To use and test and play with for as long as we wish for FREE! Thank You!
Everyone, Enjoy! Take Care, But, Always Have FUN! Thanks, Rick D.

Easy download, easy to use, fun - what's not to love?!

But I also support the suggestion that if this program allowed the user to make custom colors! wow I would actually pay for that. I spend hours every day on my computer - customizing it is just a natural thing to do and makes it more like a well loved "home".

Thanks again developer and GAOTD

@T Berendsen: There runs no exe and there is no icon for this! After installation right-click on a folder and you see it in the context-menu.

That Worked, Thank you! After installing and activating, I Right Clicked on a Folder and was given the Option to change the Icon Color.

What I would add to this program is the ability to change folders into icons not only colorizing them. But I would also like to see other type of files such as RAR, ZIP, and Briefcase to be added to this type of change too. That would make that program way better than it is now.

#39 Joe R → Perhaps your Operating System (Windows ?) is corrupted which could be due to a malware or a corrupted registry due to drastic registry cleaner and the like. I used to have that recently and I had to reinstall repair my Windows but to no avail. Check with a professional.

But that's not normal that you can't see the .exe as there is an application in GTOD as everytime. Check for any type of corruption. Do a system restore to a previous and healthy registry entries. That could do it for you too. That can also happen with a drastic registry cleaner (CCleaner and the like are more harmful than useful if wrongly used as they remove the wrong registry entries and otehr .dll which are necessary for any healthy Operating System to work properly.

To GOTD: Thnk you so much for this program. I was starting to get frustrated with my old Windows XP folder icon changer which is quite restricted! For those that don't know how to do it: right click the folder and click on Properties. Select the Customize tab. Next click on Change Icon under the sub title Folder icons and select any that you like. Click OK. Then uncheck mark Attributes Read only box and then Click Apply. Finally click OK to exit.
However this program is simpler to use.

I got it on the last giveaway, it is a simple cute program and easy to use. Is this an upgrade to what we received last time? If not, then I do not need to get it again. A suggestion to TeoreX, add more colors or allow us to make our own colors. I put the suggestion here because I can't always get the idea box to work.

Ashraf had reviewed Folderico on 26 Nov 2011.
However that was a FREEWARE.
The relevant version for XP was 3.7.2 and that for Wdw7 was Ver4.

However, this Folderico GOTD is Ver 1.0 and it costs $19.99.

A bit confusing.
The same Folderico Ver1.0 was given on 7 Nov 2012.

The Folder Marker Home Ver3.2 given by GOTD on 4 Dec 2012 is good too.

Don't confuse this with the free Folderico from Shedko, which appears to be similar:
http://eng.softq.org/folderico
Shedko notes on their site:

"Not so long ago there was similar tool with the same name.
We do not have any relationship to the paid version which began to advertise on some sites, all of our programs are free."

I have used the older v3.7 of Shedko's app for a few years on XP and find it works well for what I want to do, color folders or replace them with pre-packaged folder icons, with various themes available or importable. Depending on your settings, the app will add a 15kb icon file to each folder modified (icon changes will be portable if moved to other computers) or add a 1kb INI file pointing to a central icon library (saves a little disk space, but not portable).

If you want to create and load your own custom folder icons, then check out some of Giovanni's suggestions in his earlier comment.

I have not used today's giveaway, so can not comment on it.

I really like this program. I tend to have a lot of folders and this helps me keep my most important folders more visible. It was a little confusing after I installed because my instinct was to go and find the program to start it. Of course, all I needed to do was right click the folder to change it.

As far as I know none of these programmes allow the user to keep the ability to show both open and closed folders. Once a non-standard colour is applied to a folder, it no longer changes to show that it is open.

A long time ago, PC Magazine produced a programme which could change both features.

Does anyone know if there is currently a programme that will do this?

I downloaded this the last time.
PROS
Very easy to use
Colourized files for ease of use
Uses very little computer resources
CONS
Only colourizes files and does not give choice of extra icons

SYNOPSIS
This program does 100% of what it says it does very well and nothing more. A keeper if that is what you need.

Downloaded this last time it was offered on GOTO. Didn't use it at much at first but got a chance to change some desktop icons on my PC and if you copy that folder to a external drive, port the drive to another machine, the folder still maintains the same color there also. Not sure if that was intended but nice.

There is ONE big feature missing form this app that would make it worth it's wild. Keeping tract where the icons/folders are on your desktop. Every once in a while a game will "re-arrange" your icons requiring you to drag them around and put them back. I had a standalone app that did that but would be nice if this program would do that too. Just my nickels worth adjusted for inflation.

Pretty good and very handy tool today, especially if you love to keep your stuff organized and are used to classify your files by folders.

Personally I use another smarter technique to do that (oh yeah, Folders are just a memory of the past for me), but for what it does this GAOTD deserves a THUMBS UP except for its price!!

20 bucks?? Come on....

First of all WINDOWS already provides a massive range of icons (right-click on any folder, go to Properties, click on the Customize tab and thenon the Change Icon button to access the different icon available).

Don't like Windows icons?? OK, no problem....

I have been using this for several years now. It is useful and you can nicely distinguish folders by color. It puts a small (hidden) .ini file on desktop so don't delete it when you are cleaning your system. If you do, all colors and settings will be gone.
