Had trouble registering originally. I was copying and pasting the email and password. When I typed them in it seems to have registered. Maybe the copy was picking up an extra character like a space.

Hope this helps.

To #115. - Mowgli >> Very well written, and I think it expresses and reflects many GaotD users experience, throughout recent years.

I advice to publish it on the 'Forums' of GaotD, so many other could read it.
Thanks.

Some great news : If you still have the Giveaway installed on your computer and you have the original download of the zip file, Fengtao seems to have resolved the problem and the registration key provided in the Read Me file successfully works now. HOWEVER if you removed this program due to the frustration of the previously documented problem you will have to wait until the next time they rerun this.

@ cholla
No. You are wrong. I installed this piece of software on several computers today. The standard installer from the website just works fine.
There is no registration problem anymore. As you can read here Fengtao Software fixed the problem. No matter how i try to register it just works fine. No need to run as admin unless you want to use the media player with the admin account, too.

@ Mowgli
The problem with most giveaways is that they register just with the admin account. If you use a user account to start the software it shows as unregistered trial version. Here is right click "run as administator" really the solution.
Sometimes it´s just faulty software. I had that too with a few programs that came up later as trial version even if they registered fine in the first place when installing on the time of giveaway.
But most trouble is caused by the register process as admin.
Setup usually requires admin rights even if most of the programs run fine started as user. If there is registration info given with the readme file be sure to start the software twice. One time as admin (usually direct from within setup) and one time with your user account. Register both times with given data to ensure that it will run as registered version in both accounts.

'bout 1/4 to 3 Est got it to work giving one last try. Registration problems have been on-going according to a post in the GOTD forum.

Pros: this is a light weight player that won't suffer the DRM key installation/updating hassles/problems you can get into with the paid players like PowerDVD.

Cons: doesn't have the features you'll find in players like PowerDVD -- would be nice if it copied PowerDVD's separate menu mimicking a Blu-Ray player remote.

I appreciate the effort in fixing the registration problem. I've, unfortunately, already deleted the program since it wouldn't register after many attempts. Thank you for arranging to resubmit this program.

Unfortunately, this is not an uncommon occurrence. I have given up several times in the past due to registration problems and have never been able to even try the programs. I have emailed the submitting company on a few occasions and never even received a response of any kind. In other cases, the registration seems to have gone through successfully (a message is printed or the program no longer indicates it is an unregistered version) but when I try to use the program at a later date, it says the "trial period" has expired.

I appreciate the authors providing their programs free of charge and think giveawayoftheday.com is doing a great job. I've even purchased full/newer versions when I find the product to be very useful. This is what the GOTD program is all about. But some companies seem to use GOTD as bait-and-switch by giving a limited trial period only (which is not how the GOTD program is structured) and force users to pay to continue using the "free" program or simply delete it. These companies give a bad name to the program. If this behavior can be monitored, GOTD would be an even bigger success.

Keep up the good work!

@ Ulf ,Not that it matters now but you are wrong .
I tried without using "run as administrator" again immediately before
I tried the solution . It failed again.
Once I used the solution it immediately registered.
So I doubt it was just fortune or luck for the few seconds it took between the two.
So you know Fengtao Software didn't fix the problem or suggest they hhad. I had e-mailed their support after I couldn't get it to register.
This is their response sent at 4:38 AM 8/4/2012 too late if it had worked. With no mention they had fixed anything.

Regarding your issue, please try to uninstall and reinstall DVDFab Media Player 1.0.1.5 at http://www.dvdfab.com/products.htm and then register DVDFab Media Player again to see the result.

@#97 Running as Admin had nothing to do with the solution. As time passed Fengtao Software fixed the error. It was just fortune that it worked when someone ran the software manually as admin.
After fixing the problem it registered fine with my user account and my admin account, too.

Brilliant!!

Finally told how to get the registration after 99% of the World had gone to bed. Even so, the ones who did get it to register still seem to be having problems.

Developers should at least check their products thoroughly before asking the general public to make their suggestions for improvements. The litany of unsatisfactory comment above stands testimony to all the damage this company has done to its reputation by not checking their product before bringing to market.

registration finally works now, and it is playing blu-ray disc, not as powerful as my powerDVD10 or roxio cine player in displaying menu and all, but it works.
happy to see that finally some free (well, GAOTD) BD player works after the total failure of mac blu-ray player for windows that was given away here (it played BD ISO only in my HDD).
i mailed DAPlayer guys (which claimed to be the only free blu-ray disc player) to explain why it did not work for my BDs, they said sorry. mac blu-ray player folks did not bother to respond.

After reading here all the praises, decided to go ahead and install and try.
...Registration problems continued for the past 10+ hours, till Now, 2 minutes before closing-time.
Finally registered, and now... does not function with a simple DVD-movie in the Hard-Disk.

What to do now??
1) Anyone knows what to do??
2) DVDFab - Fengtao Software - Please advice.

Well. Due to different time zones between Beijing and GOTD's offices, no answer will be given to post #89 before this giveway is over.

I once paid for a full version of DVDFab Decrypter, which worked very well (as everybody knows!); but, given the serious drawback about THIS giveaway, I'm not sure I can trust those people at Fengtao Soft anymore.

They wanna sell to America? Well, they ought to give answers before America goes to sleep!

The solution for installation is to right click on the desktop icon and run as administrator. This is using Win 7 64 bit. There are only two hours left on the offer though, so I don't know how many this will help.

Registered without a hitch.
Opened in a window that was larger than my screen. Easy enough to fix but why didn't the default size fit?
Started playing a 16:9 video which it squeezed into 4:3 ratio, tried playing another but it wouldn't start. Closed programme (the "X" wouldn't work but I got it to close from the task bar).
Opened again, tried second video again, played fine, but...
For some reason it wouldn't fit on my 1080 x 1920 screen when playing in full screen mode.
Went to settings, tried adjusting zoom (couldn't see any other option that might fix it), couldn't exit settings, gave up, opened up VLC Player.
I might give this another go at some stage when I'm feeling more patient.
On a bright note, I can now install software from GAOTD again! It looks like Outpost Security (which I picked up here last year) was the problem. Uninstalling it seems to have fixed the problem. Yay!

there is NOT a single free blu-ray disc player in the market. DAPlayer does NOT play my discs. splayer or VLC does not play either. i cannot comment about others but i am pretty sure that they don't play it either. the only solution now in playing BD is a paid player like powerDVD or totalmediaplayer5 (TMT5).
i can't believe this player from DVDFab is not getting registered. it did hang up. two thumbs down.

A general comment about Fengtao Software Inc. >>
- There is a gap between their software, DVDFAB, and their Customer Service ethical-commercial standards behavior...!

The background story, of a negative experience when purchasing software from them >>

I purchased "DVDFAB DVD Copy" software from 'Fengtao Software inc.', two years ago, in their Xmas reduction offer. They have advertised or informed on their site that some countries are excluded from paying the VAT, which mine was part of it. When paying the bill I noticed too late that they charged me including the VAT. When asking them for refund (via the credit-card I paid with) they refused, and asked me to apply to their billing company (another company). Then they informed me that in order to get it done, I have to buy again their product and they would reduce the VAT, and after that they would refund me the first buy.

Issue #1 - why did they not do it automatically on the time of purchase?
Issue #2 - can I trust them that they would indeed do what they say? (after the first time... and after maneuvering such a complicated manner for a refund...)??
Issue #3 - why should I pay two times consecutively, ...for the same product I already purchased, and only then wait to get my money back?
Issue #4 - in the meantime, between asking them and responding me 'process', (quite many e-mails went to-and-fro till they agreed there might be a solution for refunding the VAT money) - the offer time was over, so when they suggested me the solution of paying for the second time, the price was higher, and their Customer Service would not reduce it to the previous sum, which I paid.
The new price was high so that even if they refunded me the VAT money, the end-payment would be still higher then my first purchase (which included the VAT sum).

Sounds Complicated?! Over-maneuvering?!

Since I purchased the software online, (not a boxed-CD), I could not send it back and get my purchase money back. So, I was simply stuck with this buying method, which left me with Bad Bad taste of their system.

...And if I was at first, intending to buy shortly after, their full package of 'DVDFAB All-in-one', I decided that in view of that case, never again I would do any business with that company of 'Fengtao Software Inc.'.

So...read this, remember this, and Beware of 'Fengtao Software Inc.' marketing and billing methods...!!

I believe the installation changes some TCP/IP and winsock2 settings.

That's why it's asking for a reboot. I turned off my firewall just in case, but still no luck registering. I also tried it on my XP Pro laptop. Same situation.

I emailed support, but will they get back to me before the giveaway is over?

I hope they understand they may be losing sales and should provide a solution.

Downloaded giveaway.
Tried to run XP, sandboxed (sandboxie). It would not.
Downloaded direct from dvdfab.
Only I downloaded DVDFab8200Qt by mistake.
Installed.
Realized mistake.
Went back & downloaded DVDFabMediaPlayer1015.exe.
Installed.
Registration not accepted.
Don't know if that is the same as repeated throughout these posts, or if it is because the GAOTD version is special compared to the download from dvdfab?

Anyhow ...

Installs into directory of your choice, ~75 MB.

It stores its settings in /My Documents/.
Don't know if that is configurable?

Program coloring, including the registration screen, make it difficult for me to read.

File browser only shows file name. No option to show any other details like size or date. Nor is there any sorting options.

Player controls automatically hide themselves.

File browser does NOT remember the last folder you were in, so you have to hunt for it again!

Other settings are accessed from a right+click context menus. Again, very difficult for me to read.

Player was using 50% CPU even when paused. Well for a time it was. Eventually it ... I see, when it has focus 50% CPU (OR MORE!), even if paused. Minimized & CPU drops.

Very basic set of controls, much less access-key controls.

It plays videos. Playback looks fine.

BUT!

It is really eating my system (CPU) up, well into the point where affecting system operation.

And what is it doing for me that any number of other players don't do (& do better IMO).

Tried to open an ISO & the program aborted.

Couple thoughts here. Open source can be modified. By me. You. Anyone. Reboots are required because various software running during install is using the same shared files. Causing conflicts. Unless I want to be paranoid and think there's some secret spy files being installed. VERY DOUBTFUL. And it's 2 Germans, of which I'm descended from who suspect the software. OK Germans, whatever happened with the enforcement of the lawsuit you had against Microsoft which required them to make Internet Explorer removable from the operating system? IE makes ME paranoid. And MS ditched Outlook Express which I loved. NEXT- tried many players for dvd. Won't switch to booray. My favorite is Applian flv and media player. Have powerdvd 10 and 7 media player which suk.

In regards to a post by Ronald from Germany :
"A software which forces me to reboot the system (XP) during installation (to hide things I shall not see) is an absolut NoGo! Thumbs down".
With most software installs it is better to reboot so the software is recognized and entered in the registry. It's not hiding anything from you. fool

Thanks to Fengtao Software Inc. and GOTD.

It is as good, if not better than my other media players: Windows Media Player, Windows Media Player Classic, VLC, Power DVD, WinX DVD Player, FLVPlayer4Free and QuickTime Player (only for QuickTime format).

I use QuickTime the least. I use VLC the most often.

What do I like most about DVDFabMedia Player?
It does not try to take over your PC and forcibly associate itself with all media type files, without asking your permission.

Some IDIOTIC softwares always do this. Real Player is one of those.

Warning to those looking at the recommended PotPlayer -I have been using VLC - I sidestepped all the controlling extras potplayer wants to load-in (I downloaded the setup program from PotPlayer's homepage). Even after unselecting and declining the extra's, in the middle of installation, Avira AV warned me that 'ADWARE/Yontoo.Gen' was found in file...YontooSetup-s.exe' Access to this file was denied. I selected "remove file", then tried to exit the installation, but it appears to have kept running. I don't see a program icon and and scanning now to make sure it's gone.
