Now this bunch of **** have infiltrated Tech Republic website as a free download. When will it ever stop!!!

You better have a total cleanse wipe program to make sure you have completely un-installed this program and over-written any remaining files in your pc - that is if you did not create a restore point before you installed the program.

90% of this program is offered free with Winpatrol, other than the tweaking of your RAM. I'd suggest using Winpatrol and a freeware product mentioned above rather than this.

Geez, on top of all the mentioned good reasons to not even bother downloading this program, it sucks up 8% of my resources. I'm no wizard, but just that it seems is doing me more harm than good.

Off to uninstall.

I have read all the comments about this program and decided not to download it. I use Defragmentor Premium and the Windows defragmenter program. #46, don't tell people to use Advance Windows Care Beta from Iobit if they like their computer. If they don't like their computer, use Advanced Windows Care and wreck their computers like I did my old one. After that it took two hours of help via telephone for my brother to walk me through getting my computer up and running in safe mode. Not long after that I had to buy a new computer. Registry cleaner programs can totally wreck your computer, by taking out files that you need to run Windows and make your computer unbootable, meaning that it won't start and then you can't come on web sites like this one and write comments like these.

These kinds of programs are very useful if you have limited RAM. I have 512MB RAM with a 2.10 ghz AMD Athlon 64. I plan to upgrade my RAM in the future, but for now, I'll use this program.

I wonder if this comments it's for the program Clean MemXP.
To test a program, to see what you like and what not, you must want to use program. The most comments here is from users that they don't want to use a memory defragment program. So, how you can write a review for a program that you have decided do not use it?. The truth for me is that there are systems who needs a utility like cleanmem and other not, depends for anyone for us to see if my system got better or not with this utility.
But, when write a review for a program, compares this program with other similar programs and my opinion is that there are not other utilities in this category with so many features. It's a program and file launcher, a startup manager, a Task Manager, a PC Locker(work fine). There are many freeware programs which have these features, but i prefer a program that has all of these from 3 or 4 programs running to my system and reduce system resources. i don't want a program to freeup memory, a program for launcher, a program to watch CPU usage and free RAM, a task manager, a startup manager..... I think that this is a parameter very importand. Finally i believe that from single developers has been written very useful utilities (freeware or shareware) in the past, so i don't care if the official site is free or not, the importand is what programs doing, and this utility doing many.I send a e-mail to author about subscriptions. the answer is that it is a onetime price.I give to this software 9.

If the function of this websites rating system is to point
people to good software then it is failing and this particular
software prog proves it, the good ratings obviously are
from people who have no clue as to what they are talking about.

This software is Crap and if you are a newbie who comes here
looking for advice on good software then that 79% may convince
you to install this more than useless prog.

66 comments are spot on and as for those who say do not comment
on things you havent tested well all I can say is if you put
garbage like this on your machine just to test it without having
a need then you need to get a hobby.

I like the concept of this website and am not putting down the
newbies here as we were all ignorant at some point.

But as they say a little knowlege is dangerous . . 76% you gotta be
kidding me Right!

Addendum to # 33.

I tried to install this program without disabling my anti-virus which the software developer implies disable all running (active) programs.
Yea... right, and never when I install a new program. Norton 360 would not allow an install or the developer's software would not install, and whatever, but the program would not install with 3 attempts. But the uninstall application installed itself.

Now, when I decided to un-install, the program called home via IE7 and being on DSL (always on), it connected to a website and tried to install a script on my pc!!!. And why?

Software developers want to have feedback about why someone would
un-install their application and no problem with that. But this one tried to install an active script into my pc - and no other reason seen but spyware of some kind. I retrieved the codes but who cares.

And most disturbingly, check their email...Yahoo. No self-respecting software developer would use this.

So be forewarned about all of this company's activity. Buy a commerical firewall and anti-virus. Norton or McAfee and protect your pc from crap programs like this. Nothing more than spyware tring to install.

And this is an overseas software company, and where does all the invasive malware generate from - capturing you confidential info and cannot be prosecuted?

To GAoTD, you should run these programs on your pc's first to evaluate before posting such as this to us. We love your website and your efforts, but this should be unacceptable software made available on your site.

Thanks for reading,
Ken

If you download a program and judge it by the AUXILIARY functions it appears to offer, and pronounce it "very useful", you are NOT really judging the program.

If a program claims to defrag main memory to make your apps run better, anything ELSE it offers is just that... extra bits. It's like dessert after main course dinner. If main course is a disaster, but dessert is good, is the whole dinner a good experience? NO!

And as #18 already explained in the various articles he linked to, there is NO NEED for memory optimizers in XP, or Vista. Windows use as much of the memory as possible to make everything run faster, and trying to anticipate it may actually trip it up instead. All this "flush stuff out" does NOT make anything go faster. A hard drive may slow down when it has to jump around to find the fragments, but RAM operates MUCH MUCH faster than that! Any sort of speed loss due to RAM fragmentation is meaningless! It *sounds* good, but it's NOT practical nor useful!

Thus, the primary function this program claims to do is nothing but "snake oil" (false claims of utility).

Even if it throws in 100 other utilities, it's still junk, as it doesn't do what it claims to do (or perhaps it does, but that in itself is useless, doesn't matter which way, it doesn't work, period).

If you buy a car, you would like to drive it around, yes? You don't want to it to sit in the driveway and show it to people how pretty the paint is, the beautiful leather seats, the premium stereo, and so on, but it does not run, right? You buy a car to drive, yes? All stuff like leather seats and paint, and stereo are EXTRAS, right?

Same with this program here. It's primary function is bogus / useless, which makes all the other stuff (which are nothing more than a wrapper on top of Window's existing stuff) negligible.

As for #38... who in heavens reads a review in INDIA with no credentials whatsoever? Heck, I can open up some bogus websites in one hour with reviews I penned saying this is the next best thing since sliced bread. Would you believe me? Probably not. You'd want to read reviews from FAMOUS sites, like LockerGnome, CNET, and so on. That reviewer didn't even bothered to research the memory optimizer claims. He essentially regurgitated the entire features list. Sounds like a shill to me.

Hello

I personally prefer What's running over procexp from Sysinternals, and it's free too!
I agree that these kind of programs are useless, best thing you can do is to get a better TaskManager and check where the bottlenecks, system hogs, ..., are.

At the moment of starting to write this there are 78%(=120 votes) that state that this is a good program no matter that those that know something about computers have done their best to demonstrate that :

- this software seller is even to cheap to pay for an actual own url but instead uses a freebie website *sigh*

- that this software seller mentions on his webpage that 'All programs are freeware for personal use only.' but on the other hand demands money for them *huh!*

- that this 'professional' software all need Visual Basic v.6 libraries *ROFL*

- that all the tools that he offers have been done better, smaller, faster for free

- that the main selling point for this program (defragmenting system memory and optimizes performance) is neither here nor there especially if you have XP or Vista. Even if you have an older OS then it still won't do much good because of the memory footprint this program needs

- to top it all of, it's on a subscription base and a time limited GAOTD offer *excuse my French but WTF*

And still you have people such as commenter 21 who just about genuflects before this program although it is clear to anyone with half a brain and a bit of computer savvy that this is not something worth buying, or installing.

And still you have people such as commenter 57 that gives it 8 out of 10 although he couldn't even download it.

And still you have people such as commenter 58 that fawns over it and it's 'very unique great interface', which commenter 18 was far less impressed with and for good reason.

When finishing writing this there are 79% (129 votes) thumbs up.

I guess some people just love to stuff their PC with crap.

I am in complete agreement with "BuBBy"(entry#18). It's up to you, but unless you're running win 3.1 or 95, you shouldn't mess with it.
Let your machine take the time to work for you, unless that extra 1/2 a second is seriously essential for a primary process or program.

Virtual memory is HARMFUL FOR YOUR COMPUTER. You exchange a lot of harddrive space for no RAM. All it does is make starting up go faster, that's all. Don't be a CHEAPSKATE. You can buy RAM for very cheap prices!!! I'm buying RAM, and it's $10 for 1 GB. That's a lot!!!

I'm playing the Quake Wars beta, and you need a lot of RAM. I have 512 MB, and it really takes awhile to load the game, then load a server, and load the map. Virtual memory WILL decrease the speed of the game. Virtual memory takes away RAM and takes away harddrive space.
And then there's problems...MORE RAM crashes, slow downs on the computer, and you can even kill your computer if you're not careful.

Read #18!! That's the actual truth about Virtual Memory.

#44: First, please note that today's giveaway is *not* a disk defragmenter, it is a memory (RAM) optimizer, as some comments have noted.

For disk defragmenting, try Auslogic Disk Defrag from http://www.auslogics.com/disk-defrag/index.php. It's the best free disk defragger I have found so far, and scored higher than IObit on recent defrag tests. Diskeeper Lite also is popular, but I object to its frequent pleas to upgrade to the paid version.

I hope this is helpful. Don't forget to visit my blog on free and cheap utilities and Web sites at http://jonathanstoolbar.blogspot.com .

The first thing I note is the web1000 host, a free host with a most abysmal reputation for letting freeloaders sites build up links, hits and search engine presence, then dropping them and putting something unsavoury on the same url.

The second thing, the inconsistency of the program's licencing.

Thirdly "memory optimizers" are a busted flush, the last thing you want when memory is tight is something else demanding more allocation of it. The one possible case is the "force swap" before running a large and delay sensitive application.

This is really scaping the bottom of the barrel, on a day when there is no game giveaway... wassup? run out of screensavers?

Clean MemXP, First Off I noticed is a very interesting and (gotta try all the features) type program, I was pleasantly surprised in testing it and checking out all the features it gives the user. Nice additions such as these fabulous RIGHT CLICK FEATURES:

1) Special New Lock The Computer (with counter and nice graphics

2) Quick Defrag (To free mem PRONTO, and tidy it back up) *Sweet!

3) Restore (Enable/Disable Main Program Menu

4) Showdown PC and Emergency Quick Shutdown

5)Program Launcher - *Custom Launch Your Favs

6) Control Panel - *Easy Access Is All...

7) Screen Saver - *Nice Addition

8) Screen Resolution - *Love this addition, nice easy, way easier than all the other res changers i have tried

9) Extra - *Hide/Show Taskbar, Disable/Enable START MENU BUTTON, And Hide/Show Desktop...

10) Monitor MEM - *Gives You graph window to inspect RAM & CPU Usage

Now the MAIN Program Window includes:

System, Drives, Task Manager, Services, Startup Managewr, Special Folders, Program Launcher, Settings & Options AS Well as yet another great shortcut to LOCK Computer with custom locking routine...

And Of course the drop down top menu options:

FILE, Extra & Help

And not to mention, monitors for CPU and MEM in The Task Bar As well as an ACTIVE PC looking Icon For RIGHT CLICK Access to What Is Called the Extra Drop Down Top Menu.

I Give Clean MemXP (SO FAR) a hearty 9 out of 10... I like what it does and how it feels is very unique great interface and functioning as well as features as stated above, I would probably change 9 to a 10 or lower it if the program proved neg in function, but by the looks of it its a keeper and a GEM! Oh and BTW There is a auto defrag & release RAM That can be set to your personal liking as well, it is located In The Main Window Under Settings.

Thank You "Give Away Of The Day" & Especial Kudos to: "FOTIS" Software.

Have A Good Day!

Just to point out what should have been obvious in the first place. this program does not claim to defragment your “hard drive”(as mentioned by several posters above), rather it claims to defragment your RAM (random access memory). Therefore the Windows© defragmentation program is in no way, shape or form comparably to this program. Not that I am recommending this program. I am simply pointing out the error that several people seem to have made.

One more thing: The "review" linked to in #35 shows this program's memory footprint at FIFTEEN MEGS of RAM. That's right, 15 MEGS.

Care to guess how much mem is MaxMem from AnalogX taking up in my PC right now?

716K.

That's right, LESS THAN ONE MEG of memory.

I am sorry, but an alleged RAM optimizer should be svelte on RAM as well. No thanks. Nice try, GOTD. Something a bit more professional next time, please?

This CleanMemXP version 8 is shareware, any freeware versions are older. At uninstallation CleanMemXP did not try to run a script of any kind. I liked the shortcuts to other programs. All in all this program is okay, it does no harm, but I don't think too much of the memory defragger - you can have better elsewhere. The price after the 1 year GAOTD periode is $8 per 6 moths.

First... #38, NOT even one word of review about this program from you either!! You wrote six lines of spoiled little boy whining about judging a program without trying it is so unfair to you becaue you want to 'read a review to try the software'...umm, why can't you just read the manufacturer's review and then download the program?

Is it all those horrible negative comments from people that don't even bother installing the app??? So evil and unhelpful and misleading to you..... Try reading for comprehension instead of flying off the handle, Alot of those comments are VERY informed about a rogram because they understand the environment it will be working in.

For instance, KNOWING that windows loses perfomance by using ANY memcleaner means that they can pass judgement on a memory cleaning program without installing it!!!

PS. Of course, they probably don't know anything anyway!! Oh WOW....wait a minute, alot of those negative comments put links in their message to support what info they are passing along. Isn't that EXACTLY what YOU want when reading comments from others?

please take your personal opinion statement to the forums where IT belongs(with this one too, although I did re-explain why this program is not strong again...)

OPTIONAL FREEWARE PRODUCT.......a few have mentioned IObitDefrag but to fulfill MemoryOptimizer needs(can be useful when multiple programs seem to keep 'tripping' over each other within memory) is........IObit Advanced Windows Care! Under 'Tools' you will find a memory cleaner option! Rate me good... Rate me bad... just have an opinion.

Thanks for the EXTRA COOL EFFORT SHORTHANDED GOTD!!

And you guys (#37 and #39) aren't paying attention. This program allegedly defrags active memory, NOT your harddrive. IObit Defrag is completely unrelated.

CacheManXP (#39) is related, and actually optimizes your pagefile settings, so it works better than simple memory recovery. However, remember #18: such programs are USELESS in XP and later. Windows automatically loads as much stuff into memory and swaps out useless stuff any way. Trying to "anticipate" Windows may actually conflict with it.

As for the other functionalities, like lock PC, one-click shutdown/restart/logoff/whatever, and so on, there's no need to load a mutli-meg program into the tray for that. I've seen MUCH MUCH smaller programs that does very similar things, and do much more. Just go search on Majorgeeks.com and you'll find more than you can do with.

Here's a few more things you should consider:

FOTIS website (the one linked to from GOTD) can't even be consistent about whether it's free or not. On the VERY TOP of the page, it says "freeware". If you click on "home" it takes you to homepage of their freeware offerings. On the VERY BOTTOM of the SAME page, it says "Buy CleanRAM XP" and links to a shareware payment site.

Web1000, the host of the site, is a FREEBIE host site like Yahoo! Geocities or Angelfire. See their "toolbar" on the top?

I *hate* to say it, but I don't trust a "company" that doesn't even want to PAY for its own website, much less be consistent about what it's offering.

And for 3.3 MEGS, PLUS size of VB runtime? God knows how much RAM this program takes up when running. Sorry, I'll stick to smaller more PROFESSIONALLY WRITTEN programs.

I hate when people make comments about how good or bad a product is without testing it first!
Then please, PLEASE, read the comments more carefully, especially comment #18 ...

This program is really not worth the hassle nor the money.
Everything else in it is elsewhere available for free (without any time-limits!) or it's useless.

This can be said without disrespect to GOTD, they can offer whatever they want. And at the same time we can say anything we want about what's being offered. It's up to the individual reader to make a decision based upon what's being said here. And the majority of the comments do offer some solid, well founded and unbiased feedback, although perhaps mostly not in favor for the program offered today.

What's wrong with that, for [insert your deity here]'s sake?

well now, isn't this just a duck trying to make a buck. This prog is no better any other free program out there. Personally i use cacheman XP which does one job and does it well and that job is control memory better than what XP can do for itself. As for all the "other offerings" provided in this program XP has all of it and what XP offers is better, quicker and far more concise. Defrag? i use smart defrag from iobit and that my friends is a far better far quicker and way far more concise defragger than what is offered here. In short nor gonna run this crap.

I hate when people make comments about how good or bad a product is without testing it first! It's very missleading toward those who would like to read a review to try the software. To all fans of GAOTD please! if you would like to discuss the softwares being offered before testing it don't leave stupid unrelated, untested, and unsatissfied comments like what i have been reading for the pass 2 -3 months now. A internet blog site or something will fulfill that purpose. Only comments that should be on this site are review comments with decent ratings that will speculate the performance and overall productivity of the software. THANK YOU!

Surprised that no one has mentioned iobit free defrag utility 47 freeware and major geeks acknowledge this as being good and it works in the background, only using 3k at the mo on xp,still this does much more and gives details of running cpu and ram, only real fault is cannot full screen ,normal screen a tad small on 15".

For the people that didn't took the effort to click the links in comment #18 I quote:
Memory boosters, optimizers, and washers --- whatever the name, they all do mostly the same thing, free up physical RAM. They do this by forcing as much allocated physical RAM into the page file as possible. Does this make your computer run faster? The short answer is No. In fact, just the opposite is usually the case.

Conclusion: Don't use this kind of software. Free or not.

DO NOT Install this program. It trys to runs a script during un-install which can only be considered as a danger to our ps's.

More later - gota run.

Like some of the comments say. Lot of free stuff that will do the same thing. Guess I will pass on this one. Still, most everyone here will agree, even this is better than a screensaver! Give me a "+" if you do NOT like the screensaver offers, a "-" if you do.
