Sorry for 2 comments. I will allow that perhaps the problem may be in Windows 8, but if so, it seems it would happen every time, not just most of the time. I've noticed I'm not the only one with Win 8 that has the problem.

Again having big problem installing this one too! I firmly believe at this point that it's a GOTD problem, not the software offered, as it happens frequently. Running Win 8 64bit. The installer doesn't do a thing except activate and open the browser to the GOTD thanks page.
I downloaded the software from the makers site, the free trial, as it's the same version number, but even that didn't work. It told me unable to create a temporary file, error #5 access is denied. WHAT is that all about?? I don't know, maybe a lot of GOTD offers just don't run on Windows 8? It's really depressing to keep trying the offers and can't install. I even changed firewalls to McAfee hoping that was the problem, but no. Can't this be fixed somehow, GOTD??

Dear SoftOrbits staff: I went to the website to purchase the Sketcher software, and the corrected price of $8.99 shows OK. Underneath that on the purchase order page, there is a tic box for "Premium Support and Major Updates Included ($9.95)" Firstly, what does major updates mean? Is there a 6 month limit to these upgrades? Also, when I do tic it, the $8.99 and the $9.95 somehow add up to $33 plus change. How is that? I hope you can answer before I go to bed in the next hour. :)

Well I will try posting this but my last post on how to disable the update check wasn't allowed so I doubt this one will be allowed either...

This one has an automatic update check (setting hidden in the registry). As such, you might want to disable the update check, if you're handy with the Windows Registry:
Change the "disableUpdates" from "0" to "1" in this location (Windows XP SP3, unsure of others):

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\softorbits\PicWatermark

Downloaded and installed without a hitch. Placed a quite usable watermark in any of nine different positions but no provision to insert multiple instances across photo. Did not accept .PSD file as input.

This program looks very promising but I have found (or don't know how to correctly use it) some things ought to be looked into. Your experience may vary.

1. Dragging a picture onto the desktop Watermark icon does not open the program with that picture ready to modify. Instead a message box appears that has a command line help message.
2. European date and 24 hr time standards are used when selected in the Text Watermark Name area with no way to configure the program to use USA standards.
3. Once you place a watermark there doesn't seem to be a way to edit or remove it. This really ought to be corrected.
4. The program doesn't retain changes to the font size or offsets when you close and open the program again. Nor is there a way to permanently change the GUI program configuration.
5. When you change the font size to 12 clicking the up/down squares doesn't change the location very much.
6. If you use smaller font sizes (11 and lower) the position boxes offset is reversed! i.e. If you click on the Position UP box the text moves DOWN and the DOWN Box moves the text UP!
7. If you use text sizes 14 and higher the text moves in the correct up/down directions.
8. When setting a Y-offset nothing happens on the cross hatched screen unless you change the rotation angle. You can then change the rotation angle back to 0 again.

Each time I use the program the Y-offset using the Position squares moves the watermark more or less than other times when changing the font size. i.e It doesn't always move text to the bottom or top of the sample screen with different font sizes. The larger the font the more it moves. Maybe it's OK on the real picture but since you can't get rid of the watermark once it is placed I didn't actually place it on the picture.

When I tried to place a smaller font size as a second watermark using the down box the text disappeared from the sample screen.

It would be a lot easier if you could just place the text on the picture and then drag it to where you want the watermark to be (use a layer).

I haven't had time to test the rest of the program but this is enough for starters.

I can tell this is going to be a very valuable tool for me since I enjoy posting photos....especially in a stingy "this photo is mine" kind of way. And I can tell that I'm not the only one who wants to be credited for my work and/or ownership of photos as the use of watermarking software by others will gladly prove. The software itself is really easy to install and use. The user interface is simple, pleasant and user-friendly. I really love when programs work like this as I can get easily frustrated and give up but not without using words I wouldn't dare use in church. It's my personal feeling that others who want to protect their photos as well as be credited for them, this software will make a big difference in your productivity in getting them watermarked quickly and professionally. It's a two-thumbs up type of software for me. Thanks GAOTD and SoftOrbits for making this program available. I'll be checking out other SoftOrbits products for sure!

I was not able to register the software. Each time I enter the registration code it tells me that it is incorrect but I have reviewed it carefully and see no errors. The code was in the text file that came with the software download.

I used to download quite a bit of the software that was offered here - after all, it's hard to beat "free." With that said, I've cut way down over the last six or seven months because a LOT of the software offered has not been that great.

However, I REALLY appreciate it when the software developer or staff member monitors the thread on "giveaway day" to answer questions, etc. It shows that they are interested in the users of their software getting positive results from the product they have allowed to be offered free today, and that interest speaks volumes toward their "future" customer service.

Just on the basis of developer involvement I'm going to give this a try. Thanks for being interested in our product experience!

Actually, having the folks who first made a watermark removal tool now present a watermark placement tool makes perfect sense. It's kind of like hiring a hacker to supervise your system security LOL. They know how to do it properly, and better than most people would. Thanks, SoftOrbits!

Installed and registered seamlessly (Win Vista 32bit). Tried it out. Decent software. Good work. Thumbs up. Thank you the program creators and the GAotD team for this giveaway!

One tiny thing: the program, during the start, tries to call somewhere (via Internet, of course). But the firewall intercepts this, and the program doesn't mind :)

Installed and gave it a whirl! Uninstalled after about 10 mins of use! Much better watermarking facilities in most Image Editors. I have used Zoner Photo Studio for ALL my watermarking. (all visible watermarks can be removed so really it is just putting your name there maybe boosting one's ego) Having to use a separate program whilst in your editor seems to be another unwanted step.

I downloaded this program with no problems and put a watermark on a picture, however I was able to remove the watermark using the same company program photo stamp remover.

I too found that's fitting the watermark to the size of pictures is fundamental and can't really understand why programmers don't think about that.

I really don't get the need for this kind of appy; therefore I have not dl'd it because I would NOT insult my clients by assuming they would steal my work for them!

If they did steal my work I would simply GIVE something even better to their competition and sue the a?se off them and they would NEVER get any works from me again!

Steal my work please and pay the price! I can always use the money!

Cheers friends.

BTW... thanks for the offer!

#9, Marty Cordova, yes, it is able to put watermark into the center / botton / top of the image as well as resize the watermark depending of the source image size.

If you want to use batch mode to watermark several photos of different sizes, will this program adjust the size of the watermark to match the size of the photo?

Batch Picture Protector 4.0

And yet again a “weapon of mass destruction“ to mess up all your beautiful photos in just one swoop!

Summarized, my assertion regarding the use of programs like this reads as follows: Photos “decorated” with watermarks – published on “the uh... Internets” (thanks to George W. Bush) – are the purest environmental pollution!

The best way to protect your valuable photos anyway, is not to publish them at all! Photos with watermarks are a great nuisance, they don't really impress somebody and unnecessarily use up storage capacity.

Consistently and logically, I today so very politely say: thanks, but no thanks!

To be fair, Photo Stamp Remover was not created simply to remove watermarks. It is designed for photo restoration. The current giveaway provides those who want to publish photos and other works on the net with a batch method of watermarking.

Answer to Number 5 "par anoid".....Yes.....this is from their help file and it's also on the web site.....

""Batch Picture Protector can work with the major image formats, including JPG, BMP, TIFF, GIF, PNG, PCX, TGA. After adding watermark image can be saved in a new file in the same or different format.""

The Suite they sell has all three removers, ie. this Photo date remover, PDF version, and for Movies like removing Channel markers from TV movies we copied. If I am reading right we can buy that suite for $30 today? Right. $10 apiece is cheap.??

Their website sez "Works with all major image formats". Does it work with TIF format? RAW? BMP? PSD? PNG?
I'm not going to download and install it just to find out what they think is all major formats.

Downloaded with relative ease. Installation was simple with no extra "toolbars" to worry about. Registration number is provided so you don't have to go searching their web site for it. Although you do have to enter an email in the box. But, since it seems to accept anything you can add whatever email you want.

Interface is simple, straightforward, and easy to use. Anyone that has used any type of program that's similar will have no problem using this one.

I watermarked 62 very large photos using an image centered onto the original. It took about ten minutes to mark all of them in batch mode and allowed me to choose a directory in which to place them.

I'll give this one a "thumbs up" since I actually tried it BEFORE rating it.

@1:Jim Stone,

Your comment looks like you are trying to compare SoftOrbits to some other folks who generate virus programs and then create antivirus for them! :D

I am sure that Softorbits is just fulfilling some market demand.

Program is able to produce watermarks that are very hard to remove with or software or some other. We suggest to use semitransparent watermarks that cover important parts of an image (like face) and has a large size. Also add small glow or shadow effect to prevent watermark removal using XOR byte operation using mask.

So, just to be clear, this same company makes both this program, which lets you protect your images with a watermark, and Photo Stamp Remover, which lets you remove watermarks from images.

That's . . . interesting.

Seriously, am I the only noticing that the existence of one of these products makes the other one rather less useful?
