I give it a thumbs down because I went through the trouble of downloading a large file, installing it, registering it by providing my e-mail, entered the registration key, and the program continuously crashes. I'll stick with tried and true and FREE Picasa and recommend others to save their $40.

I like AShampoo software generally. The "Spam" people talk about is offers for program upgrades at a discounted price. They are not overwhelming, maybe a few a month. No big deal. Use an alternate email address if you just can't handle a few extra emails every month.

One complaint: It appears that Ashampoo doesn't understand the concept of "free updates." I have re-purchased several of their programs, since they charge for every update. Among others, for example, I've paid for their "Snap" program 3 or 4 times now, and I am preparing to pay again, to update it to Snap 6 (for $8.00, instead of $20 retail). That shows how much I like the program, but I don't like paying for it (and the others) again and again.

There is nothing new or different in this photo editor (even the latest paid version). Several free photo editors can do the same stuff like photoscape, picasa, and several others that can be found by googling.
Among the paid versions, Corel's paintshop costs a little more and matches industry standard Photoshop in functionality.

Good God..... how many times must it be said that email is NOT SPAM when you give a company your address and permission to contact you. If you can't figure out how to opt-out then you have a severe ID-10T problem.
As far as the program goes, I have had other versions and liked them as I am sure I will this one. I have purchased several of their products and have been pleased with both the software and their tech support.

The free offerings from Ashampoo are solid considering the price. I've used a number of their products without complaint. And if it's something I don't like, then I simply uninstall it.

As for the email, once I've opted out within a week or so, no more emails. Or, as others have suggested, use an alternative email. (Those are free too) Complaining about free software is like complaining about a free cheeseburger because it isn't filet mignon.

RE: spam. Go to their website and unsubscribe from their "Service Letter" (email list). Done once, spam ends. I've used their products for years, no spam.

Why do you complain so vociferously when you won't undertake a simple unsubscribe operation? How un-free-enterprise of you.

@ #34: I absolutely agree 100% with what you said.

As for this software, I like this program. I didn't care for the dark background of the Zoner program offered earlier and I really hate Adobe products in general simply because they are bloated and cumbersome. I like the products from Ashampoo - they always look nice and do what they claim. I liked the overall look and set-up of the program. I tried adjusting a photo and organization. The screens were clear & concise, and I could easily figure out what I wanted to do without having to reference a help file for the basic features. Set-up was very easy and I only needed to enter in my user account info to get my registration code AND have it conveniently stored into my account, should I ever need to reinstall. If you don't already have a user account, it is easy to set one up with this company. More importantly, unlike other companies that require your payment information to make you a "customer", Ashampoo allows you to make a free account and they keep all of your products and registration keys available to you, including the ones from GAOTD. This is the only company of which I am aware that does this.

For those complaining that this isn't version 10, grow up - the rest of the adult population isn't your mommy. You don't work for free, I don't work for free, and the people who make this software don't either. Offering the older version of their software that they have just upgraded is generous and smart - it allows potential new customers to have complete access to a recent version without driving the company into bankruptcy. I am more apt to purchase their software if I can try it for longer than 30 days. As for their e-mail offerings, every time this poor company offers a product, there are the trolls claiming the e-mail ads are spam or that their other e-mail accounts have been hijacked. First, e-mail ads from companies are NOT spam, so kindly stop parading your ignorance. Second, you can opt-out of all their e-mails while still keeping you account with your product download links, registration keys, AND special offers (you just won't be notified by e-mail of said offers). Third, you go through the same registration process as a real customer - one of those people who pay for the products that generates the funds to keep the company going. In other words, unlike other companies, these guys treat you extremely well, ie. like a customer. Last, I've never hacked to the point that they somehow discovered one of my other e-mail accounts.

I totally agree with #34 and others who support the offerings on GOTD. I have purchased and use many Ashampoo products regularly and have not found any yet that I can say are poor products. They all do what I need them to do! Sure I get the odd email and popup, but those are easy to remove, and i like to be shown what may be available at a reduced cost. Ashampoo suipport is excellent!
I currently use Ashampoo PC10 and find it excellent.

It seems to always be the same people whom do the same complaining and I really wonder if they are capable of CONSTRUCTIVE criticism?

Try the product, it is free and uninstall it if you do not want it. You do not get "Loads" of Spam and you can opt out of those as well.

C'mon people grow up and be positive for a change!

For all those complaining about spam and so on from Ashampoo, why not do as I have done. Get a free hotmail or gmail account for free offers from Ashampoo or anyone else, and let them spam you if they want. I NEVER check my hotmail account unless I need to check for a registration number or something like that. As a result, I have no idea if they sell your email or not, and I don't care if they do. I have 8192 unread messages on my hotmail account right now. I guess I should start deleting them :-) Ashampoo products are great, and having access to your registration numbers on their website can sometimes be very convenient. Personally, I like the company and their products.

Yes, they send a lot of email "special" offers. So what? I open them if I please and don't open them if I please. I can ignore things if I wish. You can always ask them to stop sending email to you and they will. I see no problem in them informing you of other software offers. Why give away their software if there is no possibility of return on it? You might really like it and want to learn about their other software products.

To Peter at #29: Peter, did they send email to the address you used to register the software as well as the business address? I've used the incorrect address to register software before myself, so that's what might have happened. I think they show (under info) what email you used, but I'm not sure. Not a good idea if they somehow grabbed another email address and used that as well as the one you gave them - I agree with that!

This, like all other Ashampoo products I have, is an outstanding offering at a very reasonable price. Getting a fullly registered version here is very generous! I am a bit surprised at some of the comments here - if you don't like the fact that Ashampoo will email you offers, (1) remove yourself from their mailing list, not hard to do, and (2) go buy another program instead of getting this great software for $FR.EE. Getting email from a company whose product you are using and whose product you got from them for $FR.EE is a small price to pay, so quit your bitching & moaning for crying out loud!

Claims such as Ashampoo sending emails to an address other than what YOU provided Ashampoo with is simply not believable. No, they do not infiltrate your system looking for your other email addresses. Even the hint of that is assinine! Obviously statements made like that are from folks who have some bone to pick with Ashampoo... probably for reasons of their own stupidity.

This program is an excellent choice for folks looking for an outstanding graphics management program. Take the time to work with it and use the help available. Once you get to know the program beyond your first 5 minutes, you'll appreciate just how good it is! There is plenty of room for individuals to customize the program as per their own tastes, so no need to accept defaults.

Never had any problems installing any Ashampoo software before, and today's offering is no different. If you do experience a problem installing, it is most likely the result of how you have your system configured (and most probably, some virus protection &/or firewall configuration). So before you go slamming the offeror, look at your own system first. Too many others have downloaded & installed the software sans problems.

Thank you, Ashampoo & GOTD, for providing a Class A product!

There are so many of these and I have loads so I can easily do almost anything and I would not have downloaded this except there is one thing I still lack. That is I need a renumbering facility in the caption field (because for some strange reason Picasa on line displays only the caption field when displaying photos and not the filename and I like to show my photos there with easily seen identifying numbers). Once again I’m disappointed because although I can batch edit the captions I can only do it with all selected photos getting the same caption and not with an increasing counter on them.

Commenter #2 is Absolutely Correct...

If you accept Ashampoo's 3rd rate imitation of Adobe Lightroom, you will be bombarded with spam from Ashampoo. That is how I ended up BUYING Photo Commander 9 (as an add-on offer after buying Burning Studio 11).

Photo Commander 9 is truly garbage software. It does nothing special. Its so-called photo optimization controls produce mediocre output. Its photo organization capabilites are mediocre too.

The free Picasa does everything that Photo Commander does...but Picasa does it better!

Photo Commander was not only a waste of my money but it also was a waste of SSD space. I UNINSTALLED my PURCHASED copy and went with Picasa...much happier result.

WARNING...once Ashampoo gets your email address...they will massively spam your Inbox. I had to set them as 'junk mail'.

Ashampoo's true claim to fame is their Burning Studio, which is a great alternative to Nero. But the rest of the software is 2nd rate compared to the competition.

I agree with the other comments that the advertising from Ashampoo is not a problem, you can either unsubscribe or use a email filter. You cannot blame them for marketing their products. I have found their products to be very sound and they actually do respond quickly when you need support.

I wonder how others would compare this to Adobe Elements in terms of features.

They sent spam to a different address than I use to register software.
That infuriates me, because the other address was for business purposes only. They must have some way of extracting emails.
Their products are over-rated. I copied CDs once and they played at the wrong speed. Company told me there is an adjustment. Why should I have to bother if it would have been copied as the original.
Best to avoid the headaches and find free or well established software
from vendors that are not whores.

Photography is one of my hobbies. And I like to try photo applications.

Installed Photo Commander 9 in Windows 8 Pro. The first impression is slow, even in browsing. Compare to the free tool XnView which I'm using now, I feel PC9 is 10 times slower. I guess it because I have many raw format photos. PC9 doesn't support Panasonic RW2 raw format, but support Olympus one. And when previewing/editing raw photos, the photo doesn't rotate automatically base on the EXIF info. It crashed many times when I tried to browse a folder with 41 raw/jpg mixed format photos. Once it crashes, the cached thumbnail will be gone. So the next time, when browsing the same folder, it caches again.

What's the difference between version 9.42 and 9.43? I have Ashampoo Photo Commander 9.4.2 (Jan 31 2012, 21:54:23). However, when I go to MyAshampoo – My license keys, it says Version 9.4.3, 2012/04/20. When I go to the program folder, it says date created 3/26/2012. Just wondering if it's worth the bother of upgrading. Any thoughts?

Downloaded and installed without a problem on Windows 7 64 bit.

However - the very first two things I looked for don't seem to be supported? I take hundreds of pictures for ID cards, and crop faces to a Vignette to print on the card. Maybe it is there, but the word 'vignette' does not appear in the help?

More importantly, although extensive EXIF information is available, every single one of my pictures contains my name within the EXIF data because it is embedded into my camera firmware, but looking at the data through this program it seems to have been stripped out?

When the first two options tried disappoint me I am reluctant to start creating groups, tags etc on some 36000 photos! Unless somebody can tell me I am making a mistake?

I lost a free version of Zoner in a recent reinstall, and decided to give this a try. It's actually quite good. I was dismayed at first with the bright interface, but relieved to see that there is a dark theme option.

It doesn't do RAW thought it seems. Selecting a Nikon NEF file crashed it. For free quick JPG manipulation, pretty hard to complain.

I am downloading the program now. Everyone complains about the 'spam' from them
1. I get minimal emails from them and have registered many of their products. I like their products.
2. Unlike other products given for free here, your registration code is saved by them, so if you ever have to re-install the program, the registration code is there to do so. This is not true for almost every other give away here. When my computer crashed and I had to reformat it, their giveaway's were able to reinstall for this reason, while most others were not.

Like most Ashampoo software that is software that is efficient without being extraordinary.
As a respected German company I trust Ashampoo and as such I prefer to use their software to freeware products that may not have trustworthy background.
I have used Photo Commander 8 in the past so I have updated to Photo Commander 9 and on first glance it seems to be fine.

I use sometimes the built in automatic adjust funktion in a batch mode for quick and easy impooving picture. I put them in a special folder rename same like adding an "a" to the filename and compare them one by one with the original pics. Some are realy better, other you better throw away immeadiatly. Especially the balance of light and shadow is impooved sometime quite well.
If you have valuable pictures and enough time you better do the job individually with photoshop or something like that.

Photo Commander 9 is very similar multipane browser as the newest Zonar and ACDSee products. It seems that each has it's specialties. I think this one is far superior in the rather excessive file organization options.

Burning disks - printing thumbnails - finding duplicates - browsing pics and previewing movies... this program is a big monster of stuff jammed into one interface. I would usually give it to ACDSee for having the better image handling, but I haven't played with this one and found all the tools. Take you all day just to figure out everything this does. I would still recommend Photoshop or Gimp if you are looking for a full batch of image processing tools. But this one has lots of options and tools.

It's a bit slower in some processes and even in just browsing. But it's not crippled. You may notice the thumbnails coming up differently and lagging a tiny bit. There is publishing options - lots of them, although I didn't see the Facebook/Social site integration like Zonar.

You can set the skin to "Dark" because the 1999 era default white window frames are just horrible. It should be set dark by default. "Dark" is still a bit lighter than the others (kind of a slate grey color).

Overall - I would describe this program as A BEHEMOTH - and you'll find out why it took a little more than most GAOTD programs to download!

REGARDING ALL THE GRIEF ABOUT REGISTRATION:

If you let them send you emails, you'll be able to participate in their "name your price" deals, and other really cheap bargain deals.

I get 1 or 2 emails a week, and you can delete them in bulk after several months - you can stop them, but it's not an issue if you don't - I don't see why people complain about it.

They don't "Spam" and they aren't selling you off to others - thats the typical users lying that happens here when people don't like registering. Get over it and give out your email. Register once and you won't ever need to again with future GAOTD deals - there's absolutely no reason to pretend that you are a victim with these folks. I got today's key by providing my email and password login that I normally use on their site. They added the key to my account -get it done - this way is actually superior.

I have now bought a few items from them, and got them at unbelievable prices. As much as you want to believe there is a free version of everything you can put in your machine - there is a few products from Ashampoo that are well worth the price when they discount them.

ALTERNATIVES:

If you miss this deal, or if you do want something similar to today's deal that's free, I highly recommend the Zonar Photo Studio Free version...

Just a quick question. Which version is it exactly. I have already bought a while ago the 9.4.2 version. Thanks for reply. A great day to all :)

Hey Fubar @#2! Good to see you here. That AShampoo info was useful. Like most of your comments. Please come back more often.

I downloaded but haven't installed this yet, from the documentation it appears pretty basic. As usual, there's already a newer version with more features. If you're interested in Ashampoo products, note that they're running a very short-term special. You can choose from a list of ten of their products, including Photo Commander 10. You can choose the lesser of 5 items or $100 total list price for $20.
