Your article has educated me. Btw, Binfer is a great tool for sending entire albums to someone. A nice photo sharing tool to add to the list.

who the heck is giving this software a thumbs down?? clean install, Works fast, Does what it says. Just because you may not need to use it doesn't make it worthy of a thumbs down. By every measurable variable, This is good software. Thanks Artensoft & GAOTD.

**Off-topic, I'm afraid (concerning Loaris)

So just to confirm, after reading the above comments: the program still worked fine but was restricted to the same definitions database as uploaded with the giveaway. Trying to update the database results in the download of a new .exe but the original giveaway license key is NOT valid. The new install performs a scan but without a payment of £30-ish will not provide you with the tools to quarantine/remove them.

A real shame seeing as Loaris still features on the GAOTD home page as highest rated software. Uninstalled.

My sincere apologies to GAOTD and the developer of today's software for this unrelated comment.

After trying it, not happy with it, it tool long time to show the preview and created huge file, over 500MB out of only 300 sublets and small pictures. The result is disappointing, it mixed blue and yellow backgrounds and created brown and dark streaks.

Nice and stable piece of software, definitely one to keep if you care to have reasonably sized photo mosaic prints. Added 900 pics, output tif format 6,700 x 6,900px and got my machine to process the mosaic in next to no time with my own test pics. Blown up to 100 % view in PhotoshopCC2014 I was pleased to see very adequate quality, at 240 ppi print size would be just short of 28 x 29 inches. Because I used a real mixed bunch of photos of various exposures I also applied a Topaz filter so smooth the overall picture. Very pleasing indeed.

Thank you @GOTD and thumbs up for Artensoft. A real deal today :-))
Re some writers’ problems with the anti-Trojan software. Besides Symantec (never let me down!) I give my machines an occasional check with 2 freewares, Malwarebytes and Junkware Removal Tool. However if anyone of the 3 ever showed a real Trojan up I would not waste time with removal. Format c:\ etc would be my, albeit loathed option.

just a simple explanation
a picture of 25000 x 18900 is equivalent to print size 250 cm x 189 cm at 100 ppi, i.e. approx 98 x 74 inches

I'm not impress by the koala and penguins demo. we can clearly see the original image beneath the mosaic. If this is all this GODT does? 50-50 transparency?
Tnx Ootje

I've got the 1.7.. Is there really any difference between that (which works well) and the 1.8? Seems a waste of time to me unless it has more in the upgrade but I noticed no one mentioned it.

I confirm Karl's finding about The Loaris Trojan Remover 1.3.6.4. It does not update the database but does begin a scan and gets hung after scanning 87 or 88 files (my two tries this morning). I bought the program for a second computer not yet turned on for the day aund I'll check it out and advise later.

Addendum:

Most programs I have installed in the last time had had about 27 registry changes during install. I start Regshot exactly after the question of the installer for the directory to install and make the second shot exactly after the installation before the question comes: "Do you want to start the program?". This means I do not count registry changes due to the first program start or the registration process. Changes of file associations should always be a seperate process (and question!) after the installation process. It should not be done automatically.

Reply   |   Comment by Karl  –  9 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+25)

Karl, registry changes are certainly useful info to add in your review. But at least equally useful would be to know how many of the changes are left behind after the program is uninstalled - by its own uninstaller, not by reboot. If nothing is left, then we can install and try the program for some time without consequences. But if many are left behind, I'd personally avoid installing the program altogether. As for using registry cleaners, I always advise against them.

I clarify that in most cases we would not uninstall immediately by reboot, which removes everything, but after some time, e.g. if we find we're not using it, or it develops a problem, or we find a better alternative.

I've a registry backup for every new install I do. Using Erunt

http://erunt.en.softonic.com/

it ensures that I have an auto backup that is rewritten/updated with each boot, progressively with a new dated backup every 24 hrs, and I do a manual backup again before any install/update. It DOES keep your reg intact, and the cardinal rule,"Backup, backup and backup." can save your hide.

Reply   |   Comment by MikeOD  –  9 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+20)

I know erunt, I'm using it. But it won't enable you to cleanly uninstall a program a year later.

Reply   |   Comment by tomcat  –  9 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+6)

Unfortunately just checking the registry on install is not sufficient to trap all the changes programs made, Microsoft allow the developers to use it for many other purposes.
I believe Comodo have a program that will track changes to the registry made by programs that are installed and tracked by it initially.
In Windows 95 and 98 it was much simpler to track changes make the system, in fact it was by far the best method of hacking the system to extend the life of trial programs.
It is not a viable method in NT systems because the vast number of writes to the registry.

I use to use Erunt as the de facto registry backup/restore tool. Now I use something better: Acelogix Registry Backup and Restore. This freeware uses the preferred shadow-copy methods to guarantee a proper backup for OS XP to Win 8.1.3 with option to compress the actual backup too that the older Erunt does not do. It has an excellent GUI and supports command line options as well.

I had version 1.6 from an earlier giveaway. I chose to install this into the same folder. The install was smooth and easy as all of my previous preferences were used. There was no need to use the key as the program remained registered. Thank you GOTD team and Artensoft.

Tested the 'Photo Mosaic Wizard' earlier and found it as a reliable and simple piece of tool for making mosaic photos . All sorts of customization can be done even after the generation of mosaic.
Mosaic images can be saved to JPG, BMP, PNG, and TIF file formats. All in all impressive and it does not require high amount of system resources.

Some Nice and Considerable Free Alternatives :

*AndreaMosaic - Very effective and well-known program in this category. A portable version is available.

*Mosamic

* Mosaic Maniac Collage Paint - a Paint[dot]NET plugin that will help you create photo mosaics.

And

*Foto-Mosaik-Edda

Thanks

Installed and registered without problems on a Win 8.1.3 Pro 64 bit system. A clean install.
A clean install changes about 24 to 40 registry keys - adding 7 to 10 keys, adding some values and changes some keys:

We had a previous version Artensoft Photo Mosaic Wizard 1.7 on April 23, 2014. Here are the old reviews:
http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/photo-mosaic-wizard-1-7/

A (Russian?) company without name and address - and the most impressive list of customers besides Microsoft:
From Walt Disney and Virgin to Microsoft and NASA. The latest news are from April 16, 2014.

Load the photo bases first!
http://www.artensoft.com/ArtensoftPhotoMosaicWizard/photobases.php

A resizable window opens. You choose your master image and the small cell images to create the mosaic. You need at least 500 to continue. You can make these from your photo directory or you download ready sets from their website. For example 8000 flowers with 430 MB.

http://www.artensoft.com/ArtensoftPhotoMosaicWizard/photobases.php?V1.7.125_SR=GOTD2014_r1_R

Then you create the mosaic, you can correct and alter size afterwards and store your new picture.

This is done without problems, fast and …

read the hints! you need several thousand tile to produce a good mosaic. 5000 and more. You need a master picture without to much different colors and details.

Does what it claims. If you like to make Mosaics, take this.

I'll keep this, maybe I'll use it once in the future...

LOL: The Loaris Trojan Remover 1.3.6.4 did work exactly two weeks. Remember, it was a lifetime license - of course without updates of the program. But the update of the database was possible. Now, with a "new" program version, the update of the database has stopped, too...

Have a nice weekend!

I have the Loaris version 1.3.6.5 and it is still (apparently) doing its job with updates too. I'm not computer savvy so I depend on you guys to advise me about programmes. Thanks to all for trying these out. I may try this mosaïc too. Thank you to GOTD too for the possibility of these free select programmes!

I Appreciate GAOTD very much, thank you to the crew, to the constructive commenters and especially appreciated are GAOTD efforts to correct problems (like this LOARIS one) and misundrstandings. Thank you of course to the companies and authors that make all this possible for us geeks, and conventional folks.

Although the Loaris did find several things, other software did not, I was not happy after shutting down my computer and turning it on a few hours later, only to have the 'Blue Screen of Death.'
And we all or most of us know what that entails doing. Apparently it had removed several items from my system32 folder, it should not have.
Needless to say, a clean restore, and several hours later, I was up and running again.
Sometimes cloud storage is not so bad, when it comes to saving pertinent data such as apps, product keys and license codes.

Regards Scudrunner's Loaris reply....

The way I see it..... we live in a world where the bad guys are constantly putting out new virus, malware and adware infection schemes. In order to maintain a good line of defense and offense in some cases you need tools that not only have frequent definition updates, but they keep the detection tool updated as well. Although Loaris offer of a lifetime license is appreciated, using an older scan program 6 months from now with the latest definitions is not the best pro-active approach in my opinion. A better approach on Loaris part would have been just to offer a limited subscription that included all the updates and definitions release in that time period. Thanks Loaris for keeping us updated on your efforts to resolve the issue, but I have no plans on re-installing.
