It is fast, no audio-video sync problems, puts out very high quality conversions, and automatically selects the optimal settings.

Did you closed the program completely and than run the Activate?
If the program was still running, the activate can't do the job well.
Advise: restart Windows and run the activate.
After the completion, start the Apowersoft Video Converter Studio 4.4.2
Good luck

I have the same experience with this application on Windows 7 with desktop icons appearing upon each use and needing to toggle on and off to make them disappear. Why are there negative votes on this comment pointing out a legitimate bug in the program?

Failed to activate. Closed it, reopened, read the comments on the web, but after several attempts and it says it is activated, it still says it is unregistered, which is confusing to me. Can't register as I don't have a code thing for that dialogue. I fear it may close down one day and leave me with an unworking program. Uninstalled. Very disappointing.

Quick check on APowersoft's HP was promising enough to give today's offer a try. Sure enough, download, setup and registration on Win 10 no problem whatever.
First test on merging 2 YT files went smoothly, though one of the files had to be upscaled (or else the other one downscaled) and even the upscaled portion of the new file is surprisingly sharp.
Now my next test went onto creating a small slide show. There are a quite a number of transitions available but no advanced time setting for slides and transition. Export to mp4 and playback faultless.

Now came the not so good part i.e. trying for video grabbing through the detector activated.
Both Chrome and Firefox warned of unsafe site or some such.
No problem when doing via entering the video URL.
To sum up, today's giveaway is definitely more than a converter but not what I would name a full-blown studio.

But as a giveaway you could do worse. There are certainly no quality issues or otherwise.

I am keeping it because my downloader for YT videos adds a silly watermark on full HD quality videos and would like to have $ 30 for unlocking (the free codec!).

You can set "Preferences"----->"Specify the CPU Cores" to lolwer CPU utilization, but which will reduce the speed of conversion.

In Windows 7 itself there is an option to set the max CPU-power.
Mostly I have set the max on 85%. That's fast enough for me.
It don't know if Win10 has something like that.
In Win8.1 it is the same as in Win7:

But if you reduce the number of cores, the remaining ones will overheat even quicker!

There needs to be a facility to pause the conversion as in Format Factory and PowerDirector - hardly a complex programming feat.

Michael, if your computer overheats then you need to get it cleaned out. Power off, plug out, open up the machine and very carefully remove dust by gentle brushing or vacuuming out.
If you do not tend to that soon you might be in need of new hardware.

I do use Process Lasso but could not see any setting for reducing the today's converter except by using "Throttle", but when I chose to do that, a very strong warning popped up suggesting I should not do that, so I didn't.

I have reduced the CPU to 85% which has completely sorted out my overheating problems with this and other software which is fantastic. (The constant heat here in Nicaragua does not help.)

Reply   |   Comment by Michael  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-2)

mike
If have checked this kind of setting in Win10.
Via Control Panel, Energy ... the max of the CPU can be installed.
Therefore the CPU does not have to work so hard and become hot.
Process Lasso: does this program reduce the heat of the CPU?
Michael: maybe just clean the fan. I have seen a laptop, that became hot, very hot. I removed the bottom and clean the fan. Every repair-shop can do that.
It will extend the live of the CPU.

I really appreciate your help today as it has solved a really big problem for me.

To clean the fan on my HP laptop requires the removal of the motherboard as the fan is underneath and there are no external panels I can unscrew to get to it.

I had a previous Sony laptop ruined here in Nicaragua by repair shops and am not letting them near another computer of mine. I have tried several "computer experts" here over the years but never again. I will eventually get it fixed when I am back in London as I am not up to taking it to bits myself.

At least with your assistance my computer is properly usable in the interim. Many thanks.

Reply   |   Comment by Michael  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

Michael
Can you give me the version/type of your HP laptop?
I can't imagine that's so difficult to clean the fan.
Laptop's are difficult to open, that's a fact.
I had trouble with a Asus laptop: after a few weeks I read somewhere to use a small pin for removing/sliding something.
Mine old laptop was also difficult, until the manufacturer of my new laptop recognised it and with a screwdriver clicked it open. Just what I needed.
If you mail me the number/type of the front AND back of your laptop, maybe i can find something, like a servicemanual; ootje.gotd (at) gmail.com

Any software that claims to include video editing must also include frame by frame forward and backward and this one does not which makes it useless for editing.

"Having said that if you know of any converters that also do frame by frame editing would be kind enough to post the link?"

videohelp.com/software has 5 categories of video editors -- each category lists individual apps - click on the link for an app & you see comments, links to guides, alternatives etc.

As several video editing apps move to 64 bit, an alternative for some *might* be live *nix discs already set for working with video.

And there's always one of the oldest, most reliable, often fastest video editors ever, & VirtualDub is free. There are 2 cons -- 1) it's linear rather than non-linear, & you don't have a bunch of tracks where you can move video & audio clips; 2) it doesn't include codecs, nor will it work with every codec, so there might be some cases where you create an intermediate video file to be encoded elsewhere.

The 24 hour period referred to is the GAOTD period. The program remains functional. "Later" means "after this giveaway has ended"

Thus: ""Later you need to purchase the software if you want to keep using its full functions.""

Means: "If you do not activate during the 24 hour giveaway of the day offer, you will be required to pay in order to obtain full functionality.'

I REALLY hope that that's clear enough

Ran the setup file but did not allow it to open program, then ran activate and now allowed it to open the program as it does as registered using this method.

Tested each of the functions, convert, download, record and make MV (slideshow) and they all worked satisfactorily.

Convert is limited in the control of the output but I think this is to help the less experienced in using it. Editing functions…. Most except for sharpness but it did allow trim, crop etc.

Download worked on YouTube without any difficulties but as with all other down-loaders I have tested failed when attempting to download the BBC I player programs.

Record worked once hardware acceleration was turned off and gave a pretty decent output again without any difficulty.

Make MV initially gave problems but on reopening the programs was able to make a slideshow of fairly decent quality.

A program that does what it claims and is simple to use.

Video Converter Studio Support
Thanks for using Apowersoft Video Converter Studio. I’m the support of Video Converter Studio. Here are some tips about how to use it.
1. Instructions:
Video Demo about how to use Video Converter Studio
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=woLMmtEBAAw
Manual of Video Converter Studio:
http://www.apowersoft.com/how-to-use-video-converter-studio-4.html
2. Registration
When you’ve already completed the software activation but it still reminds you to register, you can shut down the software first, exit it completely by right-click on the software icon hidden in the Arrow Pulldown next to the notification area on the task bar, then run the activation file and restart the software to try once again.
Notice: The free activation of the software is available in 24 hours only. This is determined by Giveaway of the day. Later you need to purchase the software if you want to keep using its full functions. You’ll get a 50% discount if you download the software from Giveaway of the day, however.
3. Advantages and disadvantages of the Video Converter Studio
Advantages:
*Windows-based software: Compatible with all Windows versions with 32 and 64 bit.
*Streamlined interface: Optimize user interface to make it very easy to use for people of any skill level.
*Broad-format support: Offer a wide range format and chosen devices for you to convert files to.
*Fast conversion speed: Conversion speed is enhanced to save more time when converting files.
*Practical editing features: Trim, split, crop, rotate, add effect/watermark/subtitle to make your video more eye-catching.
*Acts as Video Downloader: Built-in video downloader is able to grasp videos from 10,000+ video hosting sites.
*Multi-mode Screen Recorder: Support to record screen and audio activity in multiple modes.
*Nice movie making functions: Create private MV with personal pictures and music to make photos, selfies or snapshots more organized and interesting.
Disadvantages:
Even though the speed for converting large files has been greatly improved, it is still under the influence of file size, resolution, quality and so on especially when you convert a 4k file. But for converting a common file, the speed is enough.
The Device Pulldown is designed for videos only, for example, if you convert an audio to iPod and select the correct model from Device, you’ll get a video not an audio.
Cannot drag and drop but by pressing the button under the MV Maker tab to import pictures to the software.
Sincerely,
Michael

We seem to be having a lot of luck getting a few of these all at once.
But you have a point. How does the Apowersoft video converter differ

Can anyone compare any of the recent video converters?
Are they all the same inside?

In my experience, the Aieesoft is just a smidge better. Mostly in that you're not getting a "commercial" plug for their product every time you open the file.

Granted, the "WinX (whatever)" only flashes for a brief moment but if you're running subtitles or any kind of captioning and the video file opens with someone talking right away, it's hard to read what they just said. I found that annoying so just never played around with WinX that much.

Other than that, they seem to be similar enough that most folks probably wouldn't notice a lot of difference.

RE: what's the difference between this & most other converters, I think it depends on whether you have a use for the other features, like the downloader, recorder etc. & how well they work for you.

RE: the GUI, it works with an emphasis on easy, so in that respect it's kinda like an everyday claw hammer, where loads of brands sell the same design. IMHO it may also be the main difference between Apowersoft Video Converter Studio & most of the better free &/or open source alternatives, which may offer more options at the cost of not being so easy to use.
