I downloaded an avi file, and this piece of SW could not process it (GOM and VLC worked fine in playing the file) and pops a window suggesting me to download an all-in-one codec. So why should anyone want to pay for this crippled product? On top of that, it doesn't even tell you how to link the codec to the application.

Very, very slow!
Creating menu's take a lot of time... I've tried to create a dvd with the 69vacation theme. Conversion of my .mov files to vob was rather slow (16 minutes to convert 34 minutes of video). Then crash with a message: make menu dvd. And nothing else.
Second attempt with 09bee theme. No crash. But more than 3 minutes to create one page of menu. And it has to create 17 for my 34 files...
I'm very happy it was free...
I only wanted to create dvd's with video files created on my camera. I think the program was created to do that. It does. But not surely. And so slowly...

I installed this and got it wrong the 1st time but thanks to the advice in this forum I got it straightened out and burned 33 music videos that are in .flv format as a DVD. Works great, thanks once again to the GAOTD team.

Apollo DVD Creator created a "useless" DVD movie file from a perfect 24 minutes duration asf file. The synchronisation between audio and video is completely gone! The delay is about half a second. The converted asf file (89 MB) has a dimension 320x180, with frame rate 25.000. There is no -faq- on the website as mentioned in the help file (pdf).

@77. Decryptor has NOT been offered here as you imply it has...Reason? It's ILLEGAL.

It was NOT "Afterdawn". It was infact, Macrovision that made the legal court claim.

DVDfab is NOT the replacement for Decryptor. I will not name the actual replacement here, as it is my understanding that it might be the subject of legal question...

Then again...since you have already named it, which is Imageburn it becomes your problem.

Then for rest of your post...NONE of the software you mention is from this so called "Afterdawn". They are nothing more than a file host.

I guess that with a name like "Hempman" coupled with your comments, one can only conclude that you have and are using a bit too much of your name sake.

It has installed and registered ok with no problems. However, it does not recognise my Pioneer 112 DVD writer. I will probably keep it for the moment as it can write to the HD and I can use any of my many DVD writing softwares to make a disc.

Despite the sarcasm (13) wow... I do have High Speed Cable and dearly for it. I have found downloads extremely slow on this site...maybe 10 to 15 minutes, and on this site only, for some reason. Even small programs on either links.
6 month old Dell computer with all the bells and whistles. Vista.
Not a computer dumbie but haven't figured this problem out yet.

I thought it wasn't connecting until I walked away from it one day, only to find it finally downloaded. Now I just wait it out ;-)
Maybe I am not the only one? .... just wondered why this is happening.
Great offers GAOTD

For the ill informed, DVD Decryptor is NOT illegal, any more than any of the software that rips DVDs offered here. It was bought up by a Europen company and they copyrighted it, so Afterdawn no longer carries it.

At any rate, DVDfab Decryptor is the replacement program and it actually does a better job. I've never had a problem backing up any of the DVD's in my collection with it. Also, since it rips directly to HDD, I can play the movie directly from hard drive or use IMGBURN to make a DVD. Sourceforga also has free programs for changing VOB to mpeg or AVI files. All of these programs are available free from Afterdawn.

I also recommend DVDShrink from Afterdawn, ffDShow from Sourceforge (for those files with audio problems), AC3Filter also from Sourceforge, DVD43 from Sourceforge to decode ANY DVD. All free. Takes a little learning, but these always free programs do a better job than this kludge.

For those with codec problems, try FREE codecs. If you have XP, there is a free codec pack that will solve almost all you video decode/encode problems called appropriately Xp Codec Pack. The codec pack and ffDShow should also solve any audio/video problems you have with this program.

From what I can tell, to convert this program is faster than VSO ConvertX, however I ran into a problem when it came to burning. It was counting up the % as usual, like it was burning (after the convert), and then the % went OVER 100%. I let it climb thinking perhaps there was "stuff" it had to do, but when it reached 201%, I tried to clicked cancel. Didn't work. In the end I needed to use taskmanager to close the process. On my pc, a convert with ConvertXtoDVD takes a little over 3 hours for a full length movie. On this, it took 1:56 minutes. But like I say, then the burn messed up. I'm going to try again, since I thought that even though there weren't many themes, I liked the idea of having an "animated" menu for a change, since I'm used to ConvertX. However, I REALLY miss being able to create my own menu background in paintshop pro and then just blanking out the menu's that VSO gives us.

Anyway, hope that helped you!!! I'll let you know if there was any change. If I can get it to burn, then it'll have to beat the 10-14 minutes the burn process takes in the ConvertX.

I was enticed by the "any video source" promise. That doesn't seem to be the case. I had hoped to record DVDs directly from the unedited movies on Turner Classic Movies, but apparently I have to save them as files first. Too bad my Pinnacle Instant DVD Recorder suddenly decided that it would no longer accept input from my ATI capture card. Bummer.

Oh yeah, and by kicking major butt, I mean it'll be finished converting this file before the night is over--just like it should be. Normally, ConvertXtoDVD takes between 2 and 4 hours. This program looks like it'll be the same. I'm not sure why ConvertXtoDvd is having such a tought time with this particular movie, but I tried it on my wife's computer, also, which is twice as fast as mine, and it was still taking forever. I'm not sure what the deal is, but I'm glad I got this program, because it's good to have another option at hand.

So far, I'm extremely happy with this. I normally use ConvertXtoDVD, but I've just run across a certain movie that CXtDVD is having a tough time with. It's converting it, but it is literally taking about a week! I actually stopped that conversion at around 50%, which took from Friday night until Monday (just now stopped it) night. I started converting the same file with Apollo, and it's kicking major butt.

This is my first time here, and it looks very nice. I downloaded the file and it went fast - so I can confirm it working. But I'm not ready to install it - is that ok? If I install it 3 weeks from now will I be able to use it, or is this offer only good for me to install it within the hour bracket?

Also can I use this to burn files on to a cd (I have a dvd burner but I want to test burn vcds..can this do that?)

Wouldn't buy at $39.95US, Nero Quick copy much faster using 16X disks, 2+ hr. movie about 15 mins+, slow. Editing also limited capabilities and not easy. Nero much better, would they improve on speed of copying or like Nero Quick Copy option, thanks but no thanks. Stable if you are willing to wait. Registration NOT easy.

Anything that doesnt make a file on your computer is suss. I prefer to delete a file when I am finished with it. You need more than one program to make a movie fit on a DVD. And 9 wont go into 5. Or should that be 4.7mb.

Dont know why I am writing this, GOTD will delete this too anyway.

Hi BladdedThoth,

I like to tell you that I always decide whether to download only after reading 'your review'. Thanks for the review, however it will be better if you can kindly add some 'comparison' with other similar GOTD softwares that gave before. It can be very helpful as so that if there used to be a better sw we downloaded, then we know that we may/may not have to 'keep' this giveaway then. Thanks for taking into consideration. Appreciate your guides to help non-technical readers like me. :) Once again thank you so much to GOTD and for your wonderful giveaway,

Have a wonderful day everyone. (feel sorry for all 'dial-up' pals.

I would suggest that everyone ignore #13.

As we all in the real world know, simply paying does not make anything suddenly become available. For example, high speed broadband. It does begger the question though...If #13 so strongly believes in paying, then what is he doing here?

It would be pointless doing a Google search for some of the software he suggests. Decrytor, was taken off the internet some two years ago as part of an "out of court" settlement. Just the fact that this fool, #13, is advertsing it by name might in fact be contempt of Court...Not to mention that he is advocating making illegal pirate copies of DVD's. You might also like to note that included in his public comments is a gmail email address to contact him. For those that don't know, gmail requires ID, which means they know who he is. It is also a known fact, that Google (who owns gmail) keeps copies of all emails going to and from their system...and I dare say that the "pirate police" would now be keeping a close eye on his email traffic.

Forget it!

The installation process insisted upon Adobe Flash pulgin to be installed. Even after it was installed, it continues to ask for Adobe Flash every time it was started. Then the program would not play a preview of the project.

Even without these problems, this program is way too basic. "Video to DVD Burner" is a similar but MUCH better product

I give it a negative

Free DVD authoring programs are hard to find. Other free solutions are typically more primitive or too complex to use. Even Nero Essentials (which is bundled free with many DVD burners) disables DVD authoring functionality.

Apollo DVD Creator is very easy to use and handles many video formats. On the negative side, The DVD menu component doesn't allow much customization, and the theme selection is limited.

#50 make sure you paste the entire registration number (you have to scroll down in the pop up window to get the whole number) in to register the program. This problem has happened before with other giveaways. Is there a way to make the popup window wider? Apparently lots of folks don't think of scrolling down even though there is a scroll bar on the right side of the window. Folks make sure to read the readme.txt file in the extracted folder with the activate and setup files. If you don't want to close the various windows on your desktop to find the little popup window that buries itself beneath all the other open windows on your desktop during the installation process, look at the bottom of your screen for the button to click on to bring it to the top of the layers of open windows. You have to connect to the internet to register! Don't call a program crap that you are too lazy to register correctly! If it doesn't install right the first time, READ the readme file and try again. Please don't condem a program without a fair trial.

Why all the negs on my post #26???

Do we all LIKE the inconvenience (However small) of the nag screen then?

I only posted this to add weight to the number of members that don't approve and I find it hard to understand why any member should actually WANT it, but I guess there's no telling with some people, huh?

Perhaps it should be put to a vote on the forums after all, without it's members this site would not be in operation, so we should have a say in the matter.

Or perhaps you will disagree with that, also?

#13. Since you don't have a clue as to what the real world is like, I will inform you. Some folks do not have anything available in their area but dialup or expensive satellite service ($1000 for equip and $100 a month)? Do you get the message? It is n o t a v a i l a b l e to them. Paying has nothing to do with it! In fact the latest statistics I read shows that over 52% of Americans do have have broadband AVAILABLE to them.

I just love naive, uninformed people. It is so much fund listening to them spout off on something they know nothing about.

Will SOMEONE review the product instead of giving an whiny opinion noone cares about of how GOTD is doing or not doing?

If this program supports Trimming VOB files as it says and can make menus, I am going to try it. Maybe I will have ahefty review for you soon. Freeware DVD software that is click through easy to use is difficult to find (actually doesnt exist). I am hoping this will allow a reauthoring of a DVD without reencoding my VOBs yet adding non existant menus.

#13, you are a moron! If DVDs are too expensive for you to not buy, dont buy them, but that does not excuse you from illegally copying them. If you desire so badly to watch a DVD, pay for it. Why should people need your help to be bad, there is plenty of info online about how to do it already.

Ok answered my own question, I tried it out and I don't like it...
It doesnt compress so I can fit more than one movie on a disk, I can't Fit the whole title of the movie on the menu, I even changed the text size and it just keeps going back to the default settings... after that I gave up. Would be a great program for making just one movie per disk and if the movie has a 3 word title or less.... over all I will stick with my vso

Thanks GOTD, I do appreciate the software! :)

This program will help you make a DVD from your home videos.
Simple to use includeing adding music, titles, etc. to your video.
What can I say, there is nothing new and spectaular with this program.

Thanks GAOTD!!

Maybe next time it will be a keeper.
