Thanks Karl for info about 'Windows To Go'
I have installed todays giveaway for that reason
HOWEVER
I pre checked my version of -
AOMEI Partition Assistant Pro Edition
It was ver 5.5
After installing today's giveaway, it still remains at 5.5
I believe the update to 5.5.8 is mainly to improve 'Windows To Go'
Could someone advise how I can get it to upgrade to 5.5.8

Look at post #24 AOMEI added missing PA Pro zip download that add same registration # that you use for the first file and the partition assistant should run fine.....

One last suggestion: One of the best explanations I have ever read on the different types of backup software and the differences in each type and when you use them can be found at dotTech.org. http://dottech.org/95071/windows-best-free-file-drive-system-image-sector-backup-programs-review/ .

@Lisbeth Marquis >> Also, Many of the vendors of Hard drive Backup and Partition Manager software have articles and FAQs that give a better understanding of when and how to use theses types of software. In addition to AOMEI, check out EaseUS, Paragon and Acronis websites for info.

@Lisbeth Marquis >> Karl's response is correct to a degree because if you do not know what you are doing, why and how to use any 'partition manager' software, it is very easy to really mess up your Windows installation to the point of not being able to bootup or wiping it out completely.

My advice is if you decide to give it a try, be sure to make a COMPLETE IMAGE copy of your harddrive onto an external harddrive and know how to re install it on your main drive if things go badly for any reason. If you do not already have software that can make the IMAGE copy of your harddrive then AOMEI offers an excellent program for free called AOMEI BACKUPPER.

You can learn a lot about hard drive management at Ashraf's other website dotTech.org. A good place to start is http://dottech.org/95676/windows-best-free-partition-and-disk-manager-review/ . For more do a search on the dottech 'search' box in the upper right hand corner of the dottech page.

Hope this helps.

From reading the comments, it seems that some are downloading and installing this giveaway software; when they have no clue:

- what on earth is a dynamic disk.
- do they need it in their present system.
- whether they may inadvertently damage their system using it.

Or just because it is a twin-pack offer that also includes AOMEI Partition Assistant Pro.

Excellent software used in the wrong way by ignorant users can be counter productive.

Use your software wisely.

I just installed AOMEI Partition Assistant but already know I will be removing it because it is not using Windows standard DPI-Aware fonts. So on High-resolution monitors the fonts are very tiny and cannot be scaled to match system fonts.

It is so hard to see these tiny fonts even with x200 reading glasses - It would be safer to remove this program rather then risk making a mistake with critical partitions. Thanks anyway.

As stated by Karl comment 34 this software is dynamic disk manager for managing RAID. That requires more than 1 drive.

Read comment 23. The software you require needs to be downloaded in addtion to the giveaway.

Download Link: http://www.aomeisoftware.com/download/temp/AOMEI_PA_Pro.zip
Note: The link is valid before the giveaway ends.

They did not package both programs into the giveaway.

AOMEI Partition Assistant Pro is the program for managing partitions.
It allows create windows 8.1 to go. Migrate OS to SSD, bootable CD etc

To AOMEI Technology Support,

I just want to clarify this 3 item BUNDLE PURCHASE arrangement You're offering:
I note the 2 x Tips on the discount bundle web-page.

My invoice mentions only 2 PAiD products:

AOMEI PA Professional + Free Lifetime Upgrade $49.00 USD $9.80 USD

AOMEI Backupper Professional + Free Lifetime Upgrade $49.00 USD $9.80 USD

__________

Q1. So once the order is completed/paid: do I finally receive some sort of official recognition - of ownership & Lifetime updates, about the third (3rd) item in the so called "bundle", that being the Dynamic Disk Manager Pro, on offer through GOTD today, OR, do You only send information about the 2 programs we actually pay for?

Q2. I do have one other Question regarding e-Mail notification when updates/upgrades etc become available: Is the Buyer/Owner AUTOMATICALLY REGiSTERED to receive e-Mail Notifications about updates/upgrades, product news etc, OR, if NOT ... then what is the procedure?

Many Thanks,

I would highly recommend you download this program. First of all the price is right. I love utilites and while I don't have much use for a dynamic disk manager it is a nice tool to have on hand. But thanks to the developer they corrected ( Look in comments) Partition Pro now and a link. Both registered fine and now I have the pro version. The Partition Pro is one of the very best tools for partitioning software. Again Thanks

Cool, discounted offer now 80% off. I wonder if this also includes DDM software. On the page they write grab our "3" excellent products. But under this writing there are only two products displayed. Same if i click on "add to cart". I see only two products in that cart. Maybe just a typo.
Thanks a lot for adding PA Pro to the giveaway. Last giveaway was before i have set up this pc. Now i have got all the good aomei software plus some other on it.
Guess i use the backupper again to save this state. :-)

Keeps telling me the computer configuration has changed and needs to restart the computer, no matter how often I've restarted it. Fails to recognize 3 of my drives, and won't let me do anything at all the the 2 drives it does recognize. Can't do anything with partions, test anything, or do anything except close it down. Installed this program 4 seperate times and everytime it's the same thing. So I'm passing on this, not worth the headache

Okay, I've started breathing again...I deleted the DM and PA DL's from today, then uninstalled System Nav from yesterday and restarted my computer. I re DL PA again, but it continues to tell me application not found when I try to open it to extract. Are there settings I need to reset because of the System Navigator program, or is the Partition Assistant download today just a partial DL if you have the Disk Manager program?...continue to breathe...lol. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Had previously installed Partition Assistant in July with no problems. Just uninstalled it, DL the disk manager and the assistant again, but now everything wants to open under system navigator which was installed(was that today or from yesterday's program?) and won't let me extract and register with today's key, yet program shows registered for life with a different code but does not show as a program either under start OR when I go to programs. PLEASE...somebody help me get this off my system.
Thanks,
Terry

I'm impressed with AOMEI adding Partition Pro to the GAOTD. May I point out that Aomei also has a Freeware program called "Backer Upper" downloadable from Cnet that appears to be pretty good too, though I only have it a short while. Combine all three and you've a good suite of programs.

Does NOT run on Server 2012
Even though AOMEI states that this version is updated for Windows 2012 (#7), it installs, but will not run on Windows 2012 server, as stated in #11.
I checked this by installing both of the programs offered here by AOMEI. It installs, but pops up a message that it will not run on the server and that you must purchase the server version.
(This simply to warn would-be downloaders running Server 2012.)

Software installed and registered fine on W7 SP1. I already had AOMEI 5.5.2 Pro installed before today's giveaway. Was I supposed to delete it first before I installed DDM as there was no mention of it installing PA also and DDM was installed in it's own directory? BTW, I've always had good results with AOMEI products in the past even with Customer support help because I didn't understand a function.

The "Windows to Go Creator" only works if you have Windows 8 installed. The "Make Bootable CD Wizard" also only works if you have Windows 8 installed. What about those of us that use another operation system (such as Windows 7)? I do not have Windows 8 nor do I want it. It is my request and suggestion to AOEMI that they include in this software the option of building a WinPE bootable disk using Windows 7 or making an ISO file available for download.

By the way, I want to thank AOMEI for the 80% discount and lifetime updates. It is definitely a great buy!

This giveaway has a "free backup software" offer that says it will make system image and backup up your important stuff, that you download from their web site. You can get it from

http://www.backup-utility.com/free-backup-software.html?from=patoolbar

That would probably be more what you want than this Dynamic Disk Manager. But note: you will likely need to have an external USB drive, probably one with lots of space, in order to have a good backup that will work if your computer's existing hard drive breaks.

Yep, the Aomei software is incorporated into this, but that's NOT a drawback. Just delete the version you've installed separately. I personally like that a prog/package gives me the op to delete 'bloat'! I've also found that when a prog's got something installed in it's pckg, they sometimes, actually most of the time, seem to be less buggy, probably due to the control code. Aomei so far has had some very good to never less then fair, software. Good dl. Easy in.

@Rodolfo Giovanninetti (#21): I think you have it right, that Dynamic Disk Manager Pro simply provides easy access to an earlier-downloaded Partition Assistant--today's software does not also natively include Partition Assistant.

The standard version of Partition Assistant is available for free: http://www.disk-partition.com/free-partition-manager.html

On one hand, Karl's comment #35 makes sense and suggests "ain't broke, don't fix," a very sensible policy I've paid dearly on occasion for ignoring. On the other hand, if partitioning makes a computer run more efficiently, safer, or faster, maybe we should learn more about it and try it. I gather, though, that there are various schools of thought regarding partitioning one's hard drive.

I'm with Lisbeth: What exactly is "disk management" and why do we need it and/or why is it recommended? I have drive letters C (main), D (restore), E (a USB slot, I think), F (DVD player), and G (external hard drive for backups. I've read the AOMEI website (FAQ, etc.) but I'm not any wiser.

@ Lisbeth Marquis #31

I try it...

1) The dynamic disk manager is only usefull for you, if you have more than one disk combined to a RAID. If you don't have a RAID array, this is of no use for you. (google RAID), but and the BIG BUT -

2) This software comes with the AOMEI Partition Assistant (see post #24)

With this you can manage partitions: copy, backup partitions or drives, create partitions, migrate the OS to a SSD or new HD, disk surface tests and much more, including the Windows to Go creator.

If you never had anything to do with disk or partition management, also this part is of no real help for you. If this, what I have wrote sounds strange to you, than don't install it and don't use it.

Downloaded, installed then registered, closed app then relaunched.

Right clicked on a partition I wanted to delete and got the following error message.

AOMEI Partition Assistant can help you to manage basic disks, but failed to run, you could need to first install it and launch. The installation file is enclosed in the ".zip" file.

Does this mean that the whole package does not install as standard?

The installation file is enclosed in the ".zip" file."

@Gigi - this is probably Gateway's method of making "recovery" disks for your system, in other words, a DVD or two that you would boot off of in order to return your system to factory default. This is in case your system gets so corrupt that it won't boot, or other major faults. Most PCs no longer ship with restoration DVDs, so there is a program that will periodically run to remind you to create them for this purpose.

As for today's offering, I've been using AOMEI products for a couple of years now, and they are excellent. I don't have experience with today's particular software but AOMEI is a name that I trust from GAotD. (And no, I don't work for either.)

I have a silly question. Some members are installing this on Windows 8.1, the second release of Windows 8. Even if you've had your computer / laptop for a year, what the heck in on your C drive that you couldn't click on the MY COMPUTER icon, C: Drive, and view things that you no longer need? Then, simply delete them. I GUESS the same question could be posed to Windows 8, Vista 1 & 2, and XP. I'm not sure I want any program deleting things for me. Just wondering. Thanks !

@gigi

The blurbs on this software don't say much about making backups, though this company does offer backup software.

You might be able to use this software to make a special section (volume or partition) on your hard drive where you can keep copies of your pictures, music, etc., though it is better to do that on an external USB or Network or Cloud drive. Then if your computer stops working, at least you'll have the important stuff. If your hard drive stops working, you want a copy of your important stuff somewhere else.

If your hard drive breaks, you might want to replace it, then "restore" the operating system. Even without all your important stuff, the restoration is very large. It might be called a "system image". If you don't have a system image, a new, empty, hard drive won't help much. But at least you'll have the important stuff (pictures, music, etc), which you could load onto a new or newly repaired computer.

There's no telling what your Gateway is trying to do. The question is how is your data backed up?

You might be able to make a backup using the Control Panel. Use "search" for "backup" or "restore". Read whatever explanations are available via "Help". Most recent Windows versions I've used have ways to both back up data and make a "System Image" or "System Repair Disc". This would be part of Windows, not something that Gateway added. For a system image, it might be good to use an external USB drive to have enough space. It might be the case that an external USB drive comes with easier software to make backups. You will still need to plan ahead and study what is needed to restore to a new empty hard drive.

QUESTION: Is it something that is finally going to let me "manage" making back-up disks for Windows 7? This doggone Gateway has been telling me forever ~~ each time it's rebooted ~~ to insert blank disks so it can do its backup (somehow it knows it's not done, yet doesn't let me). Sure enough ... as many times as I've tried, and with different disks, too, all of which are supposed to be the kind that work in here, it kicks me out of that place, telling me it cannot make them!!

What am I to do? (it's been way too long w/no back-ups ... Labor Day was two years when I replaced the last crashed one w/this thing I wish I'd never gotten)

Thank you for any information re this hopeful "fix" ... ???

In short, this is no different than any other partition management software. Recently I used a different application, as I needed to correct a problem with a client, who when every time had problems with the PC, instead of allowing me to either remotely troubleshoot and fix the problem, or bring it to me as it is a laptop: instead they would do a complete restore on the system. This would create duplicate recovery partitions leaving the system having 5 or 6 when I finally was given it, as the customer was now frustrated.
Now after having done another of their quick fixes as they thought would work, the system refuses to go back to default, as they never created an image disk. Sometimes, things are better left untouched, if people do not know how to use it properly.

@Bill - The system restore is not as powerful as you think. You need to have an up-to-date backup as well, just in case. The best way is to do what Karl does, set up a 'sandbox' and let the program play to see what it does. If it damages the system a reboot fixes it. There are many out there, my personal preference is Returnil.

.............This software has a perfect “windows to go” creator on board. Install it simply for that reason. Easy to use! You don’t need an Enterprise system.

It would appear that you need windows '8' for that to work.
I have windows 7 Ultimate and I get an error when trying to create a bootable USB stick, so no good for me or anyone that hasn't got the latest Windows Op Sys.
I shall be offloading this as it will serve me (and thousands more) no true purpose.
