#57 foxy : Geez, people – what is wrong with Remote Desktop that is a standard feature in Windows XP and on up. why add something that you do not need to – it’s already there……..

You clearly don't understand the difference between RDP and VNC-type products such as this. Install the software and try it before you start typing so that you don't end up embarrassing yourself (like this).

This is NOT an RDP-type application. Which is good because RDP sucks.

Awesome software! Thank you Anyplace Control Software and Giveaway of the Day. I have used LogmeIn both free and pro. This is comparable in features with the exception that during this giveaway it's FREE!

I logged in easily, was able access a remote computer and preform file sharing. Logged in to a client's computer (via logmein) and put it on thiers as well. Had no problem logging into that one either. They dropped the pro version, so we could no longer file share. This software solves that issue. Someone mentioned that it was slow earlier; logmein is also slow, and you can't file share with the free version. Slow beats driving from NE Houston to SW Houston any day of the week!!!

Thanks again

don't know if this will not connect comps with different windows Os, I can't get anything but my Vista host comp to connect to the online service.

If this cannot connect different windows flavors or You cannot run Both host and admin at the same time on all your comps this is almost useless.......

I shouldn't even have to say how dangerous these kind of programs are. These programs are a hacker's key to get inside your computer.

I don't think this program is worth downloading. There are too many free tools which do the same thing.
I use UltraVNC or TeamViewer.
I think UltraVNC is better, but it's a little harder to configure. http://uvnc.com/

I received this in email instead of activation code:

"We would like to confirm that yes, there is an ability to get free
licenses of our software and to activate "some advanced features for
free". Due to enormous number of letters we receive every hour concerning our product maintenance and support requests we will provide you with further information later. Already tomorrow you will get the full answer to your request + all information about our promo-action.."

Installed easily, can't register it, says I'll get the info "already tomorrow" although this is a 24hour giveaway?
activate "some" advanced features for free? why not all of them if it's a giveaway?

I use Remote Control PC and have for a long time with no problems, the interface of this looks exactly like it, RCP was easier to setup and it's free without the hassle

Thanks to ACS and the GAOTD Team anyway

@47 Tom, it sounds like some or all of you are connecting in exclusive mode.

I've done what you are describing with VNC on XP. No hacks required, just changing some settings on the viewer and server.

"Users can connect via IP (WAN and LAN computers), or via an optional “online account”." but "This version does not include: •Direct IP-Connection mode." Are these 2 separate IP connections, or with the GOTD version are you required to use an online account?

So ...This app is only good if you have it on 2 computers 1 host & 1 admin. How can u check your computer from anywhere if the computer your checking from doesn't have this app, and , if u take ur computer with u then u dont need an app to check it. Whatever.

@47, in TightVNC and RealVNC there is an option for simultaneous connections. I have TightVNC on this computer, that option is on the Administration tab, Connection Priority, Automatic shared sessions.

Can this or any other similar program help me get around XPs limitation on 1 VNC connection ? Here's the scenario: I have a PC acting as a server across town, it is running XP Pro (not my choice) and I need for me and 2 others to have access to it at any given time. These times might overlap and currently, only 1 person can connect. I know there are hacks to make it possible, but I'd prefer a commercial solution.

Thanks

I guess if contact to customer - they could provide this feature per personal request. I'll try )

This would be a great program to monitor and admin my kids' computers if the direct connect feature was not disabled.

Don't want to have to connect to the internet and to an 'outside' server to connect to another PC in my own home. Also not interested in advertising software on my website to enable that feature.

It's not a 'Full' version if a primary feature of the software is disabled (the direct connect). I agree with the other GOTD users, I just don't trust involving a third party system (computer/server) to connect with any of my remote computers.

Without the direct connect, this software is pretty much useless. There are many 'free' on-line services that do the same thing.

Also it would be nice if the Host and Admin modules were separate install files.

Just a follow up. As i wrote earlier about "Remote Control PC" (#7), which happens to be from this same company, "Anyplace Control Software". There are free licenses on this site.

http://www.remote-control-pc.com/

http://www.remote-control-pc.com/buy.html

It is exactly the same software (version 4), from the same Author, and from the same company. Links at the bottom of the page leads to anyplace-control.com .

Hey people, what's wrong with you?
This is a nice software and you are given a chance to connect to remote PC by Account Connection - to overcome firewalls and routers settings, dynamic IP addresses and other IP address connection issues.

Can your dear TeamViewer perform the same? not. Thus use it for your direct connections or you want to have everything in one package. You'd have to thank vendors for an opportunity to use the software.

FTFL -- take my respect.
I'm not the one who thik this way :

"to #8 and all others who bitch and moan every time there is a cost associated with a piece of software, e.g. "logmein", where this individual complains that "file sharing" costs a bit for an annual subscription. Give me break...does this idiot think people are spending hundreds of programming hours producing some very fine software simple for the opportunity to pass it on free? Put in all in perspective...please. GoTD is a great service for all you freeloaders, but remember that behind all this "free" stuff is the notion that if you "use it", you might actually think about the work that goes into producing the software and pony up a few dollars."

Yes you have to install Admin module ona PC where from a connection would be performed and Host module on a PC you would like to control

2 LuckyLukeD

Contact our support group to clear up the issue.

2 MyTuppenceWorth

We don't store any private information including customers's passwords at our servers.
If you are uncertain about our security - find any security complain in the Internet and you'll fail.

2 Joji

-You go to register to use this software!? Whattttt!!! This is troublesome…
Is it?

-What happens if someone figures our pass?
No one can do that, unless you don't keep it in secret. All data is encoded.

-you must always have “host module” and “admin module” on your system tray at all times in order to connect.
Admin connects to Host. If Host is not started - connection can't be established. Clear enough. Furthermore - you may hide tray icons.

-I’m not sure about “scaled to fit” since I can’t connect with my desktop computer, but it does go to “maximized size” automatically for you, which is good.
Contact our support team if you have an issue.

-GAOTD version restricts chat… but it says “you can get a free license to do so at free@anyplace-control.com” The only problem is WHERE on that page do I get the free license?
All accounts are activated manually specially for GOTD users, to separate them from "common" users that's why you need to send a request.

2 Rizla01

Our software was developed for remote PC control and remote support. You take all risk for using software improperly.

I've just paid the full amount for Teamviewer, it's that good. I use it every day to control multiple PCs not just in my country but abroad (sounds obvious to those that understand, but isn't to everybody). I even use Teamviewer to hop onto one PC on a network and then use Teamviewer on THAT PC to hop onto others on the network and, if I wanted to, to hop back onto my own PC!!! (yeah, that'd be pretty pointless). I love its simplicity yet full feature set. This offering doesn't match the options that Teamviewer gives.

Thanks anyway GOTD

This software worked very well for me in a trial - I'm using Win7 64 and also VirtualXP on my desktop & Win 7 32 on the laptop - installed fine on all of these except that the free software restricts you to 2 host PC's unless you buy a subscription. It was a good & easy way to move files around my machines when I was having a problem with the router.

However, they do say "We can offer you a free registration key in exchange for our link placement on your web-site (google PR>0)", so perhaps that would be a way to get more licenses (hosts PCs) - I haven't got a suitable website to check this out on at present.

From an IT administrative point of view, we ban these types of applications for usage by users and vendors are only allowed specific programs to remote into the system. Before downloading this or any other program for remote access TO work machines, talk to your IT department, as this is a major security breach.

For our users, if they need to access their work machine from home. We make there department buy them a laptop and IT loads connectivity software on the machine.

Now if you need to connect to other family/friends PC's remote tools are the best. I recommend gbridge. Https:\\www.gbridge.com

I know that many people on here are technical, but there are those who are not. Bottom line... if you install something like on this on a work machine, IT will not support it and depending on your work policies, you could get terminated.

Remote control software can also be used on your own LAN. I use UltraVNC with my customers. I also have it set up for all my relatives so I can do a quick fix on their computers when they run into a problem. In my own house I have 3 computers, and sometimes I'll remote into my main computer from somewhere else in the house to check my mail or reference something. Yeah, I know I'm lazy. :)

So today's giveaway is like a clone of "TeamViewer" eh? Interesting...

But the only draw backs so far that I fould were the following:

-You go to register to use this software!? Whattttt!!! This is troublesome...
-What happens if someone figures our pass? It's not like "TeamViewer" where they change it auto... hard to explain, but today's giveaway is kinda fail...
-you must always have "host module" and "admin module" on your system tray at all times in order to connect.
-I'm not sure about "scaled to fit" since I can't connect with my desktop computer, but it does go to "maximized size" automatically for you, which is good.
-GAOTD version restricts chat... but it says "you can get a free license to do so at free@anyplace-control.com" The only problem is WHERE on that page do I get the free license?

Here are some positive aspects of today's giveaway:
-has the basic features such as shutting down, logging in, restarting, full control, view only, chat, file transfer...
-a log of your past connections.
-"OKAY" viewing quality
-easy file transfer

Well... that's all I could find on today's giveaway based on the pros and cons I found. Hope that somewhat helps?

I personally recommend "TeamViewer", it's much easier to handle and it's simpler than today's giveaway. It comes with more "useful features" such as video/voice/regular chat and easier to use interface which is a good thing for those who aren't that good at computers. :)

Anyplace control was given away on GOTD some time back. During the setup process you are required (logically enough) to enter access codes, which are then stored on Anyplace Controls servers waiting for you to log in.

I am distrustful of anything that requires you to send your sensitive access data off into the Internet, where it is stored on unknown servers with unknown controls, so that you can access it yourself from another site, with unknown monitoring during your access. There is significant potential for abuse here.

This is everyone's individual decision, but please think carefully before entrusting your data to external responsibility.

hmmmm... I think for me the deal-killer here is "This version does not include: Direct IP-Connection mode."

I've made my distrust (make that 'loathing') of web-based computing clear, and if I'm not mistaken that statement above means any use of this is blocked if one loses web access, is limited to internet connection speeds *and* connections have Anyplace Control Software's servers as a man-in-the-middle bridge.

even between computers on the same LAN.

please, someone tell me I'm wrong!

btw, the linked site for teamviewer and logmein has a bad rep on web of trust, but going to the netman link at download.com has safer links to the other pair.

logmein free notes: "You must upgrade to take advantage of the file transfer and synchronization abilities", so that's not so useful.

netman is based in the PRC and requires using their servers to link.

teamviewer is german, but it's not yet clear to me if you can use local direct connect or not. I don't think so. the client list looks good.

if laplink couldn't get me to use a 'net based server, this isn't.
