Re. 12 and 26:

I have received an email form Eltima Support:

"We have fixed temporary inability to download age-restricted videos which are not embedding-protected. Please, upgrade to Airy 1.0.42 and the issue should be gone. Airy 1.0.42 can be downloaded from our website: www.eltima.com/download/airy.exe "

And this new version indeed functions properly. Thanks, guys!

I did not install this product from here but I had it installed a few months ago. It performed perfectly and I was very happy with it. Could only recommend it. There was no video it could not download from YouTube. Then it said "there is a new version, absolutely free for you", and I installed the new version over the old one (thus losing the old version). It became registered, so that was ok.

But now, most of the time it shows "This video is not available for downloading", and does nothing. Only simple, old or short videos can be downloaded which have absolutely no restrictions whatsoever, be it for copyright, or geography or age or whatever. It has become now much worse than any free or paid YT downloader out there. I can only advice everyone to stay away from this product. Complete waste of time and nerves and resources. They made me lose a perfectly functioning product by upgrading, which I assume is the same version being offered here today. Shame on you, Eltima software.

@Eltima, by the end of the day I tried downloading again and still encountered the same problems. Since there were no solutions posted here, I wound up uninstalling Airy and grabbing a copy of one of the freeware programs recommend here. Thanks anyways!

I Don't like having to paste a YouTube address. Why can't the software get the address from YouTube. Some of the other YouTube downloads just require the user to click on a button to start downloading.

Further to my previous comment, i just installed and activated this Airy Youtube Downloader software.

It looks good. I will not integrate it with my Chrome browser. There is no need to. Very simple to copy and paste the URL into Airy.

I like the simple, easy to use user interface. It is good design when something is designed to be simple to use. Not clogged up with a lot of bewildering choices.

Thanks to GOTD and Eltima.

I use Greentree YTD Youtube downloader freeware. But you must be careful when installing it or when updating to latest version. Do not allow it to install ASK toolbar, change your browser home page or install suggested "freeware".

Other than that it is pretty good for normal Youtube downloads.

There are Youtube downloads that are "restricted". For example, something too graphic like the video of victims' bodies of MH17 missile downing of airline jet.

Youtube then asks you to input your Youtube ID and password in order to download the "restricted" video. But this NEVER works. Even if you input a proper legal Youtube ID and password.

There are other software that can overcome this Youtube "restricted" video blockage and can download the video.

Be aware that this Airy giveaway is a downloader software.

It is different from the Screen Capture software.

I was going to bypass this giveaway since I usually just use Video Downloader in Firefox to download any YT videos I want to save, but for one particular stubborn video that Video Downloader wouldn't download tonight, I thought I'd go ahead and give this a try. Tried it in 1080, 720, and mp3, and all it would do was queue them up, they never even started downloading. Uninstalled. If it can't do it any better than what I already have, don't really have a use for it. Ended up using keepvid.com as recommended by Angus Carter at the top of the comments here since I've actually used that before and just forgot about it, and while it didn't give me a working 1080p version, it at least downloaded SOMETHING, and both the 720 and mp3 version worked just fine. Will have to remember keepvid for those stubborn uncooperative YT videos. :)

Majesticwi, I use VideoGet for youtube videos. I have noticed lately that some music videos won't download and also wondered if they had some type of protection. They were all songs from the 80's.

I would like to see them (or anyone else) add a delayed download option. I would pay for that. I have limited internet access (yea, go ahead, laugh) but I get unlimited between 2am and 5am. so this is when I do much of my downloading.

I fail to see why anyone would pay for this when the free software alternatives will do much more, and do it better in most cases. Jdownloader for instance, can load a list of YT videos and download them all at once, do it without problems, download anything from any site, change your IP, and basically handle everything for you with browser addons. The choice is yours.

I forgot to mention an important detail, I did not integrate Airy in Chrome. I just go to the youtube link, copy it and then paste it in the window of Airy and then I choose what I need and hit the download button. And I wait.

Guys, it must be a different issue than Chrome as I have it. And it works perfectly fine. I used the mp3 as it was originally just to get an audio of video you tube. But it is fine. However, it would be nice to add a feature: converting the sound to an optimal quality which is not provided.

I also tested the mp4 and it was quick as it was a small video. By the way at first it queues to download, but then the size of the download appears. And then you just click on the magnifier glass to listen or view your video or radio.

Based on this experience, I warmly recommend this software. I have a laptop Windows 7 and use Google Chrome. Also guys, make sure to get the latest Chrome and Java as these might be in conflict if they are not updated regularly.

Regarding today's giveaway,I am usually not too interested in something that downloads YouTube vids,I am usually looking for something that downloads other Videos,as well.Usually,if a Vid Downloader downloads YouTube,it fails miserably in downloading other vids, for the most part. Also,SoS is offering a video "studio" today that supposedly does the job, able to download from "1,000 + sites." I have had no experience with that particular software. In summation,I usually resort to IDM,simply because it usually does not fail to sniff out vids,Maxthon's resource sniffer does an excellent job as well, but wondering whether there are any more suggestions for a Good,Free,Video Downloader that is not limited to YouTube and Vimeo, and not not much more, that is not filled with Adware,Malware, constantly phones home, messes up your system, etc.Any and all input / suggestions is gladly welcomed. Suggestions, anyone?? Gio ??

Downloaded and installed on a Windows 7 Pro x64 desktop.

I wanted stand alone YouTube downloader primarily for audio MP3. Today's Give Away installed and activated without any problems.

In use, I had limited success. Newer videos like Lorde's Royal and John Legend's All of Me and Happy by Pharell Williams got stuck in "Queued for downloading …" and never started. While home made or older videos like ELO's Strange Magic downloaded without a problem. All these downloads were attempted in both video and audio only formats. The newer videos copy protected ? Airy can't handle the newer video YouTube format ??

Unless someone has an answer, uninstalling is looking like the best option. Sorry I didn't install virtually at first for a trial run.

I'm removing my chrome browser and installing Firefox and not because of this software issues only, but because it stops many downloads in the middle of the process and is restricting the Youtube videos and downloads at random places.
No it is not my computer problem, Opera works fine on the same Youtube videos, but the same short cut is being disabled in chrome.

Downloaded, installed, activated on Win 8.1 Pro x64 - all straight and easy. Tested with a list of songs I anyhow wanted to download from YouTube, what in my country this is legal for personal use. The app did it's job as written in the description fast and without bugs. And because it's free today I give it a thumbs up. But if I would have to pay for it, I would choose one of my free gems, e.g. YouTube Downloader HD or DVDVideoSoft, but I don't list them all at this place and I will recommend none of them, because in my opinion it's about this giveaway and not of dozens of free alternatives, which also have to be sorted out carefully. Just one example: #17 Mike recommends ChrisPC VideoTube Downloader, but this app is highly limited in the free version, and for the add-ons or the pro version one has to pay.

And last but not least I once again woul like to say thank you to the gaotd team and the developer's who give away their apps for free.

And many thanks and greetings to Karl. I appreciate your daily comment and your tips about reboot you gave me. Since then my system remains clean, even if I try out some registry killing SW.

Well, today's offer does, what it claims, though it's a bit annoying, it requires to have your bookmark line visible. However, I do prefere my usual video downloader from Freemake. Please be aware, that their Video converter also is a Youtube (and much more sites)downloader. It converts the file to the format you wish - at the same time it's downloading the video. That is a pretty nice feature, and best of all - it's freeware. Greets from Denmark.

Could you kindly sens us a screenshot of Airy "About" screen, a screenshot of the error message that you receive (if any) and inform us your PC specifications and OS version? $19.95 is a pretty steep asking price when you consider the huge amount of competition out there providing this service for free.

I use KeepVid which is free, works on my Windows, OSX and Linux machines and does exactly the same thing.

Maybe you should check your firewall.
Airy need contact with Internet for downloading.

A test with the firewall disabled? Just for a test.
When Airy works, you can make a rule for Airy in the firewall-program.

@ Helen (10):

Google has disabled all extensions that do not come from its store, because of "security", in the latest update of Chrome. They do not like Youtube downloaders because they own Youtube.

So if you use Chrome you need a downloader program like today's giveaway, or one of the many free alternatives that are mentioned in the comments.

Maybe the problem is that there is inserted an advertising.

Technically, you're able to download.

(Though Youtube has their terms of service (use) on their site)

Good for just personal use, no commercial use? Your thoughts?

Word for word.

"You may access Content for your information and personal use solely as intended through the provided functionality of the Service and as permitted under these Terms of Service. You shall not download any Content unless you see a “download” or similar link displayed by YouTube on the Service for that Content. You shall not copy, reproduce, distribute, transmit, broadcast, display, sell, license, or otherwise exploit any Content for any other purposes without the prior written consent of YouTube or the respective licensors of the Content".

Installed and registered without problems on a Win 8.1 Pro 64 bit system.

A German company with address.

One of the many YouTube downloader.

A small non resizable window opens, you can integrate this software in your browser or paste a YouTube URL - and only YouTube URL's. All others are not recognized.

The browser integration is a bit different. It adds a link in your bookmarks toolbar (which you have to enable, disabled on my browser), if you watch a YouTube video, you have to click the link in the bookmarks toolbar and then the URL is sent to the program. No real browser integration in my understanding.

If it finds the video, you can select with a scroll down the video resolution and type, you select the download directory and it downloads. Not more or less.

Does this in my short test without problems... as all of these downloaders.

Uninstalled via reboot, my firefox addition is sufficient for me.
