Just wanted to add to my comment of how it worked so well. I found that if I changed the default save folder to a different folder, the program would crash every time. As long as I let it save to the default folder the program wants to use, it works fine. Not a big deal really, as after I save it to the default folder I just cut and paste it to the folder I want it in.

I re-tested acropano under Windows7x64 and emulated winXPx32 with the 5 photos of the zip file.
Crash in both instances ...

Ran OK on Vista Home, but could not get any 2D panos to stitch. Is this only for 1D stitching?

It did work for me with my XP. It installed, registered, and worked for two panoramas I tried. There was the odd problem that after the first panorama I did, after clearing it and loading more pictures, the first 2 pics of that set were labeled "2". Huh? But it worked.

addendum to my last post, I've tried it on 3 different computers now, XP Pro SP3, XP Home SP3, Win7 64bit Premium, the program crashes on all three, I've tried only using as few as 2(3MP) size reduced to 100+kb, still the program crashes on all three. POS software, wouldn't uninstall properly on the XP Pro computer, setup sys restore so I wouldn't have the same issue on the other computers. I'm thoroughly unimpressed with this program. I've tried all three types of "panoramic" settings, still crashes. I have a hard time believing it's an "OS configuration" issue as stated by both the developer and GOTD team, especially considering it's 3 different OS's. Even tried to run as administrator as previous comment stated, program still crashes. I haven't said this about any program here before, but I HATE this program.

I initially thought this program was pretty neat and unique, but when I noticed the links on this page to the different FREE similar programs, I just had to try them out. First one I tried was Microsoft ICE (using the exact same images) and it outperformed AcroPano by a long shot.

The images I used were of a clock tower (Google "create panorama" it's a single image file divided into 6 parts [3 rows, 2 cols]). I first (after cutting out the 6 images) combined the vertical columns then combined the two resulting image. MS ICE auto-sorted the images, AcroPano made you do it manually and created some weird images if you had them in the reverse order. The MS ICE final image had a level roof and a single set of clock hands, AcroPano had a curved roof and an additional "ghost" set of hands.

Only reason I would consider buying it would be because of the way you can make some off the wall images by combining the images out of order... but that's worth about $1, not $99.

I was hesitant to try this after the reviews. It installed without problems on my XP sp3. I had three pics I took last summer of Mt. St. Helens (aprox. 4.24 mb each) I intended on stitching but never got around to it. Beautiful results. From downloading to installing to stitching the three photo's together took about 12 min. I am very impressed.

installed fine on my XP machine as well, but every time I try to composite pictures(I've got several different panoramic single type photos I've taken from Ft. Myers beach to the Philippines) and it wouldn't work for any of them, extremely disappointed, BIG thumbs down from me. As for comment #1, also crashes when I am using the sample photos. Not impressed in the least. For a program that you're charging $100, you're getting money for a faulty program. BAD business practice. Not just that but, where did you learn to spell?

Horrible.... spent three hours trying to prove to myself that my computer must be at fault. Tried on 2 desktops and 3 laptops. Win XP SP3, Win 7 Pro, Vista Home........ took 2 very simple pics specifically to make sure it was not a problem there . Crash, crash, crash. If this prgm was a case of booze, I'd give it to my worst enemy.
Sorry bout that.

Eh... not a usual "stitcher" but lets see:
1. YOUR ERRORS ARE MOSTLY BECAUSE THERE MUST BE 20-30% OVERLAPS BETWEEN PHOTOS. That means you must have a piece of the picture 1 in picture no.2 to work... and so on until you complete a project.
2. pricy software, nice one, but pricy. also free alternatives but i think there aren't as fast (didn't try many of them).
3. if you have an Android phone or even an iPhone you can stitch with apps. Works quite well on droid.

I've used the free version very successfully for years. I have had problems with the memory error and usually find that increasing the maximum iterations fixes it (double it or more). I'm still running XP-32.

I do agree that more control over the picture's outcome (placement, trapeziod correction, and more) would be a big improvement. And, not having to start from scratch every time!

$99? You're joking right? That part is just a joke?

If not, this program needs a TON of improvements to be even worth close to that amount.

The ONLY pictures I can find that work on this are the ones you guys provided. That is not realistic.

So now there are 2 problems. It costs $99 and you can't even use your own photos, because they don't meet the exact specifications. (What the heck are those specs anyway? I didn't see anything about it in the program)

This program also needs more features and layouts. Only 3 possible layouts for $99, and the 360 looks ridiculous.

Also, for the copyright. You are able to change the frame color, but you are not allowed to change the copyright color. So If I want it black to go with a black background and make it seamless, I cannot see the copyright. That's kinda an obvious thing.

Sorry, have to uninstall this mess. Tried on two different Windows XP SP3 machines and 2 different Windows 7 machines. Does not work on any of them. All attempts were with their suggested sample files.

AppName: acropano.exe AppVer: 0.0.0.0 ModName: acropano.exe
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00059e7a

Releasing a program that seems incapable of running on any of 4 machines makes me question what exactly I did install on my PC because it sure doesn't seem to be the program you describe. Guess complete virus / malware / spyware scans are on order for this evening.

Installed and registered without issue (Vista Ultimate 32-bit) using "Run as administrator" on the setup.exe. Appears to work fine with the sample photos. I have some pano shots I've taken, somewhere on my system, but no idea where they are at the moment to test with them. Seems to do what it's supposed to, within its limitations (no grid, as mentioned previously). The frame dragging arrows are a little confusing, changing from the double-headed arrow to a regular pointer when you click to begin dragging(??). All in all, not bad for a freebie, although I would never dream of paying 100 bucks for something like this. Too many free and capable alternatives to make it worth that, even if the intrinsic utility of the software made it a high value item, which it doesn't. Thanks GAOTD, and to the developers, adjust your expectations price-wise. Ain't gonna fly at that bite.

Sorry even here no luck :(

Vista HP 32 bit - installed with admin-rights (just in case).

I can add pics but the two tabs (Frame + Preview) are dead. After the click on Next the programme crashes and is closed. Only the normal win error note. No reason given.

I tried it several times with the developer's sample photos.
Nevertheless thanks to GOTD and AcroPano.

Installed easily. Tried it on a few of my photos and seemed to be a bit faster than both ICE and PHOTO STITCHER. It even worked with a few files that could NOT be stitched in the other programs due to an "image mismatch".

Personally, this one is a keeper for me. Thanks GAOTD!!!!!

It crashes as soon as it analyses the photos. No error messages, Windows just tells me that the program stopped working. I tried with the sample images provided, I tried with photos from my camera, it still crashes.

Microsoft ICE and Panorama Maker 5 (software that came with my camera) worked just fine - so I know the photos are ok.

Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit, plenty of RAM and HDD space.

MY ADVICE TO THE PROGRAMMERS:
Before you release the program CHECK IT OUT as customers are easily put off, after all the object of the exercise is repeat business.
Remember it takes time out to install a program even a free one and if the programe does dot work then the reputation of your company goes down the drain and they are unlikely to call back. They are more likely to tell their friends to avoid your company as they cannot be bothered to check their products and in doing so wastes peoples precious time.
If you want to let your company go to the wall, ignore this message, I for one am not impressed and I always believe in quality control and looking after my customers, that is why I am still in business after nearly 50 years !

I´ve been using photo-stitching software for years now. The one i like the most is called PTGui. So I know what I´m doing when it comes to shooting a panorama sequence for stitching.

This program installed fine and registration was successful.

I loaded a 5 picture sequence I had stitched with other software and the program crashed when the sequence analysis started.

Then, to make things easier for the app i loaded a 3 picture sequence, but the program crashed again.

I made several other attempts with different picture sequences of different sizes with no luck.

I don´t know what the problem is, but i could not get a single panorama out of this software.

Perhaps this program doesn´t get along well with windows 7?

My hardware:

Intel I7 950, Asus P6X58D Premium, 6 gb Corsair DDR3 Ram

Many, many complaints about errors, program crashes, and not being able to see whether the software is registered or not. Too many particular configurations of OS on existing PC's. Just not fit for the world.

I downloaded sample.zip and have memory max on my machine and run nothing else at processing time and have plenty of virtual memory and diskspace, so size of photos or computer memory shortage is no item, but still experience a programcrash every time I try to stitch them together (even when I only try 2 photo's).

Because I'm by far not alone, I boldly state that this software is just not stable enough for general public. Some are able to use it, the lucky ones, but many, many people have problems.

How can somethiing like this be sold and even more, how can it be sold for $99,- Beats me, I use Zoner, also a giveaway some time ago. very good.

I'm going to mature arcopano in the trashbin.

#48: "...I use Hugin, and Microsoft ICE (ICE gets better results, Hugin is more controllable, works when ICE doesn’t.)"

Both good apps, FWIW whether you do panoramas or not Hugin can do lens correction, which is nice for regular photos, maybe essential [depending on lens used] for stitching.

Can't say how well AcroPano Photo Stitcher works because for me it doesn't -- tried in win7 ult 64 SP1, XP Pro SP3, & a XP Mode VM. I can say it's a portable app though it's installed via InstallShield, meaning in the XP Mode VM ~1600 new registry entries & a few new InstallShield folders in Program Files & Program Files\ Common Files. As already posted [#6] Uninstall through Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel got rid of ~99% of that. There doesn't seem to be any unusual dependencies using Process Explorer [SysInternals -- microsoft.com], the program's folder holds 59 files, 2 folders, ~3 MB, & all but 4 of those files are images to skin the GUI.

I'm uninstalling it because of:

1-11 out of 12 tries fails to stitch the pictures.
2-Every second or third try I get memory overflow error.
3-The successfully stitched view can not be exported or shared.
4-Lost almost 50$ of the pictures view when stitch.
5-No control of which side or part to overlap into each other.
6-Can not stitch (properly) different resolution saved graphics.
7-Crashes constantly
8-Not finished software and not worth any money for it.
9-Got frustrated of constant memory error on win 7 pro 32 and 64 bits.

Sigh. $99 for this? That's just taking advantage of the un-informed user, which I consider unethical. Why don't developers survey the competition before setting out? Even priced "free", it offers little to recommend it.

Some features to the good:
1) Accurate stitching.
2) Control point placement adjustable
3) Decent framing option

Some points to the not so good:
1) No horizon placement control.
2) No horizon tilt control
3) No projection control
4) Cannot add/delete control points
5) No "grid" stitching (linear panos only)
6) No way to identify filenames in pano w/o starting over (ie. reprocessing)
7) Processing work load "all up front"... that is, preview is full size instead of "fast" proxy size.

As mentioned above, M$ ICE is "way" superior and free. Also, the pano functionality in the free version of Zoner has more features than this tool, plus being integrated into an excellent image manager.

Hi all
I'am James Corner from AcroPano.com. I saw complains about "Memory Shortage Error", the reason can be various. And my team is working on it.

Things you can do to avoid Memory error:
1.Avoid large size files.
2.jpg/jpeg photos only.
3.Keep Overlaps between pictures(if not, program wont find similar part to stitch).
3.Choose right stitching: horizontal, 360 degree or vertical.
Demo photos for stitching: http://www.acropano.com/download/sample.zip

Best Regards

Some extremely excellent free alternatives:

1. Hugin: http://hugin.sourceforge.net/
2. MS Image Composite Editor: http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/redmond/groups/ivm/ice/
3. Autostitch: http://www.cs.ubc.ca/~mbrown/autostitch/autostitch.html
4. PanoTools: http://wiki.panotools.org/
.

In my experience, Autostitch is really simple to use, and has never failed to do an excellent job.
Hugin pulls through when I want to pan or distort while stitching.
Between the two, you should be covered.

You can check out other similar software in the chart here:
http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Stacking_Software

But seriously, $99 from a no-name brand? Isn't that a bit high?

Installed properly on Win 7 64 Bit system. Ran it, registered, and tested. didn't do so well on some pics I've stitched before - in fact, didn't line up at all on one of them. re-started the program and registration didn't hold - wanted me to re-register. What a pain...

Wanted to mention that the "Advanced" area is not clear what we're able to do and how to interface with it... The software GUI isn't friendly to anyone who's new to it - should have some kind of interactive demo to run new users through the software and introduce the features. (Especially for software that's almost 100.00 - I'd expect something real special for that much money that you're only doing panoramas on...)
