It doesn't seem to work.
I have windows 10, but no MS-Office installed.
I've tried with .txt and .docx files

Although activated and licensed this version is crippled in that conversion from doc is limited to pdf. Options to convert to html or txt are greyed out. Conversion from txt is limited to pdf also with options to doc or html greyed out. These were the options I| was really interested in as I had come to expect very little by way of quality from PDF conversion software. I was not disappointed as the pdf conversions I tried were a disaster.

I hunted for a decent PDF to Word converter and found Nemo PDF to Word - Pretty good considering it's freeware.

Does this program allow the joining of two or more pdf files that can be saved as one pdf file?

Try pdfsam (google it)
Pdfsam is my tool of choice if it comes to joining and splitting PDF files. If you want a fully equipped version, now is the time. They just published a beta version which will provide you with a fully featured prog which is portable, too.
You might have to look well if you want to find the download link...
Cheers

For "joining of two or more pdf files [into] one," use the freeware PDF Toolkit, pdftk.exe (command-line utility for Windows machines, download it from where SourceForge or a Google/Bing/DogPile search suggests you look).

I see that their website states that the unregistered version of the program has limited functionality. To use the program without any limitations a registration key is required and once that is input the license is valid for 1 year only.

This software Version 2.0 was given away on 14 November 2013.
I tried it. Unfortunately it was not good. I made a record for future reference and today I referred back and realised it was "lousy".

Some of us are short of time, and some of us are elderly and feeble minded (me).
For those people, it would be handy if you could add your assessment, and indicate whether you will keep it.

Thanks,
Rob

Installed and registered without any problems, on opening a simple interface is presented.

Tested the programs ability to convert to word document format with a television PDF manual that combined graphics and text in a complex format.
Although the output produced was better than most converters it was still hardly usable.

The real difficulty in converting from PDF appears to be retaining a decent format; the best way of achieving this appears to be creating an image and then doing an OCR on the image, AABBY FineReader appears to use this method most successfully.
It does so by importing the PDF file and then converting it directly to word document format.
It is also available for $99 and if I was in the market for a converter this is the route I would take.

Today's download does offer some other functions that may make it useful to some people; it can convert to and fro between DOC, TXT and PDF, it can also convert from HTML to PDF, a real bonus.
If you only need to convert from PDF to DOC format then AABBY is the way to go but if you need the to and fro conversions today's download could be useful.

Oops, my bad.
From HTML to PDF should read PDF to HTML.
A bit of wishful thinking on my part, sorry!

So many converters, but rarely one that actually works at 100%. I guess this has something to do with how a document is "pre-formatted" and how the converter reads the format and then writes the output format to its liking, so to speak. Open Office format differs greatly to MS Word format, both output as *.docx but there are differences, and also perhaps if you use Adobe Acrobat Pro or something else. With that, I assume you would have to get the expensive road via Adobe and MS Word to get converters to do what they are supposed to do. A safe and free way to get things accurate comes at an expense, which is LaTeX. (however, you need to learn LaTeX first).

To round up, more effort on behalf of the developers is needed.

software not expensive and very good to use for converting pdf to Word is Aiseesoft (various PDF converter programs) or Abby PDF.
Both programs are seldom offered as freeware, but if so take the change. I often convert pdf to Word and especially the conversion of footnotes and headers indicates the professional level of the program!!

@rene van der wolf

Don't know why you get negative votes. I tried out many PDF converters (from Giveaways) as well and Aisesoft was one of the best. It only seems to have problems with some kind of JPEG pictures. Abbyy PDF however works great but has no batch mode and when installing Win 10 I lost the licence, the old key doesn't work, anymore. Same for some others like the Icecream PDF Converter that was also quite good but used to crash a lot. So currently I'm back to the very old Acrobat Pro 8 which still seems to work the best.

I am always on the look out for something that will convert PDF back to a word doc. After Adobe allowed credit card info to be stolen, then waiting 6 weeks to notify people I dropped all my subscriptions with the company.

I was excited to see a PDF convert utility for today's giveaway.

When clicking on the 'About Us' page at ACPSoft customers are greeted with a long spill a special contact form link and two different email addresses. Wondering where this company is located.

After a little searching I see we had this software offered July 7, 2014. Click here (http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/acpsoft-pdfconverter/#comment-419354) to view Karl's review.

I personally cannot tell you everything Karl did however I will show you one convert. Here is a screen shot of the original pdf http://i.imgur.com/afnZFUr.png.

Then we have a screen shot of the converted document: http://i.imgur.com/dnM0qlS.png and http://i.imgur.com/sqGhVxo.png

As you can see this converter failed to properly convert the document.

Uninstalled.

Have a great day.

Really can't blame him for not participating after reading some of the comments from our legion of complainers. Definitely our loss if he decides not to return.

Office 2013 does a pretty good job of "reflowing" PDF into docx
