After messing with trying to install for a couple of days with negative results I tried the suggestion "use Control V" rather than the context menu.
It worked....... much to my surprise!
YMMV

Shock!
I came back to tell anyone that's still trying to install this app that much to my surprise a previous suggestion to "use Control V" to paste in the User Name and Serial number instead of using the Context Menu actually worked on my machine.
If you haven't dumped the download in frustration you might give it another shot! The dialog box for the serial number, etc., wouldn't take a Copy/Paste with the mouse nor would it accept any typing. When I used Control V and the serial number dropped into place in the box I cursed!
The idea seems idiotic to me but it worked.
YMMV

I concur #258, did a real test on a Vista Home Premium 32bit, image to ext USB, create a boot up recovery CD, use built-in partition restore to factory default (hence, everything is gone, 3 years stuff, boy, the computer run much faster, this take some courage to do if you don't trust it ). Boot up with CD and USB HDD connected, choose simple restore wizard, couple click and off it go, 60GB all restored including the hidden proprietary restore partition. Beautiful.

wish I can test x64 in action.
it's a keeper.

I installed this on three separate machines. All three were running just perfect before hand. One machine I had to bring up in safe mode and remove the software. It's fine now. The second machine is in the process of doing the same. The third machine is running fine with it. The ironic part is that all three machines have the identical hardware from their motherboard to processor to memory to hard drives. The only difference is the cases.

# 164: Brian:

Yod don't need to worry. After making your backup, you just have to burn a Rescue disk (CD/DVD). Just use the in built Paragon Recovery Media Builder.

Afterwards - try to boot from the CD/DVD and browse to find your backup-file.

Downloaded to my older XP SP3 OK but it would not accept my s.n. as a valid entry so deleted program ( no time to fool around with it.

This is not a comment by me !! I also have a XP SP3-system, but I had no problem installing, registering, running or anything else.

Alf. does not equel ALF; this might be very confusing.
Thanks all for the appreciation; it was all my pleasure.

I was unable to install the program and no matter what serial # combinations of caps vs non caps, the letter "o" for a zero I used, the program would not install and always came up with an invalid serial# message.

I tried a second registering a second time and got a different serial # just in case the first one was bogus and it too came up with an "invalid serial number" message.

Although free and apparently fully functional, I'm extremely disappointed at Paragon for running a offer that resulted in being unable to install because of bogus serial #'s. I just see this as unprofessional and operating in bad faith to the public

Yes, it's possible, can use either external disk or DVDs, up to you.

Yes, but if you had GRUB loader installed, you will need to re-configure it after restore.

Paragon products use a modified GOST-28147-89 encryption algorithm. The password size is limited to 256 symbols.

You were sent product key and serial number, please copy-paste them. The most common problem is that people try to enter their name instead of product key or that extra space character is copied. Just be careful and it will install just fine.

This one is not trial, but it has some limitations in comparison with commercial version: it's 32 bit only, and no WinPE CD (though you can create default Recovery CD, so it's fully functional software).

I want to express my displeasure.

Yesterday (07/29/2009) I tried (on and off) for a full 24 hrs to activate the Paragon Back-up Pro 9. Most of the time I was redirected back to the original download page. The rest of the time I was informed that a connection could not be made.
During the day I was sending and receiving my normal emails as usual. So I know that my system was working properly.
I have the personal version of Paragon Back-up, but would have liked to have the Pro version.

What happened here ??

#250, nobody supposed to know that link, but consider lucky if you did.
the readme instruction is all you need to know to get it installed, some early some late and some missed(many times when I don't have time to check, GAOD ran good stuff).

BTW, W7RC x64 not supported, I think it's purposely offer x86 only, if you like it you'll buy it. But I won't buy it unless I see it actually works, the RC will be gone eventually they don't need to exclude x64.

For those who couldn't install because installation aborts when pressing "get serial":
use registration link http://www.paragon-software.com/registration/db9pro.html

For those who can't install to Windows 64 bit:
this GAOTD release of Drive Backup 9. Prof is only 32 bit

Please try again.

Tried to Install 4 times. Saved to C: and unzipped. Ran the Setup and got the install page and then nothing.
Went to the Program file in C:\Programs and found DB9_Prof_free_en windows installer there instead of the installed program. Ran that and got a Drive H does not exist error and end of program.
Did not get the registration option for sending email.
I soooooooo wanted this Prof as I am very happy with the previously offered Personal Disk copy... :-(((

I get a screen that says "Drive Backup 9.0 Professional Edition (English Version) activated"... ah, no such thing. It never asked for my email address, so it isn't mailing me anything. Nothing is on the start menu, nothing that is functional is running. Free, but not worth the price.

So now my work is set out for me...

format C: , then reinstall my whole world. Which fortunately I can do because I have a dual boot system and just backed up this morning the old fashioned way.

I hate bad programmers. "Works sometimes" is never good enough.

Excellent program. I have several other Paragon programs, from previous GOTDs. THANK-YOU !!!

Question: What difference does it make to follow #33's installation plan vs. the Paragon one? In both cases, the .msi file is on your computer, and the software key is in your e-mail. But, pointing out the .msi file is good information. I extracted Setup to the Desktop, so it would be easier to find, then made another copy of the .msi installer to keep.

Well, it did not install fro me either!!! I followed the instructions to the letter from #33. Here is what I get..."The windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance." What the crap is this??? I have downloaded many things without a problem.

Does anyone know if I can down load from the Paragon site and use the registration info they emailed me?

for #160, when you get your email with your reg info, highlight each item, right click and do a "copy", than use the "cntrl key with the V key" to paste it into the selected place on the reg box.

for #168, (for vista) look for it in your temp folder, its usually in
/appdata/local/temp in the folder that it named it to put the msi file. just move it to some other folder and click it. After you can save it to a CD for later.

Installed easy. Made a recovery disk (DVD), booted off disk easily. Nice GUI on the recovery disk, seemed easier to use than Bart's PE (and others!), just a clean quick disk image and recovery program. Haven't figured out how to do individual file/folder backups... don't think you can, strickly disk/partition image/recovery program. Very nicely done! Thanks Gaotd & Paragon! Nice download, glad I caught it!

I found that trouble with registration was a space after the end of the first code, whatever it was called (not the serial number). Remove that space and it might work.

It installed on my XP Machine, but when I rebooted I got the BSoD! Had to do revert back to "last known good" configuration on subsequent boot up. Safe mode didn't help.

Once program was running I got through the wizard ok, but the launch program failed some seconds after it started backing up the partition (note: the MBR backup succeeded). I've run the Free (non-pro) edition before without problems. the Pro Version has incremental backups. Too bad it dies!

OK, we are all having the same problem, no key, I installed 2 times and nothing, those that are getting the key, well, that doesn't work all the time either.

I even tried to run revouninstaller and it can not find the program. What's up with this program?

And why doesn't the software company respond with the answers?

Or has anyone here figured it out yet?

An answer to this problem would be really helpful.

#155 and #160
"I have the same problem as Alex (#155) Won’t accept pasting the serial number so it has to be typed in and keeps saying ‘invalid serial number’. double and triple checked typing……."

Instead of "copy" and "paste" do, "copy" then click where you want to paste it and then do, "CTRL + V"
This will work instead of "Paste" in areas you cant right click and use "Paste". Hope this will solve your problem. It did for me!

I made innumerable attempts to complete the installation. Three different serial numbers were sent to me, none worked. I kept getting a little window with Invalid Serial Number. I finally just gave up and deleted the installation files. They need to do a better job of making sure their software works when it is offered free. I have no desire to ever use anything they produce again.

Installed fine (used method from post #33 above) on Windows XP Pro SP3 alongside Paragon Backup Personal Edition. Both versions look very polished and professional. (But it may be quite a while before I actually use either one.)

People who want to install on some other drive other than the default of the "C" drive may wish to watch the installation carefully in order to spot the option for changing the installation location. I did not catch that option the first time around and, by mistake, installed the Pro version on my hard drive "C." An uninstall from the "C" drive and a re-install on my drive "D" seemed to go off without any problems.

Well, I am stumped. I cannot get it to install on Vista 64 no matter what. I tried Alf's system (which is ingenious and for which I thank him regardless of my outcome!) but I still got the message that it does not support this operating system. I even tried downloading the Pro version from the website but it would not accept the serial number from the giveaway version. (No big surprise there but I figured it was worth a shot). I tried using the "modify" and "repair" options while attempting to run "DB9_Prof_free_en.msi" but still no vista 64. I give up.
