Iraq has announced that it will deny a license to controversial private army Blackwater Worldwide, preventing the company from providing protection to US interests in the country.
The Iraqi Government said that the decision was due to improper conduct and excessive use of force, in particular the 2007 killings of 17 Iraqi civilians by the company.

as for the subject: good riddance, mercenaries by another name, etc.

Commenting 2.0 service Disqus has announced support for FriendFeed, allowing users to natively import FriendFeed comments into Disqus.
The integration between the two popular services has been the top of many users’ list for over a year, and while WordPress plugins, and more lately a hosted service promised some levels of integration, you can’t beat native support.

Yeay!!!! I am using Disqus, but now I will never leave them

A little late to download now, but thought I'd comment anyway.
Installed and runs with no issues on Vista Home Premium 32 bit SP1.
Some issues with it which I am trying to resolve through the programs forum.
But, it seems to be a useful piece of software to keep on top of numerous forums.
Much easier to have it all in one place than having to check each site individually.

Installed OK, but "Stack overflow" error was generated on my attempt to target a vBulletin forum I frequently use. The program successfully uninstalled in about 15 seconds, including the time to report the error using the uninstall tool.

I give this one a thumbs up and about a 8 out of 10 rating. There are a few features that I would like to have seen, such as the ability to move the sections around rather than have them side by side in the screen. I would prefer if I could put the viewing window below the resources and display columns, but that's just my preference.

Those who say this is just a browser either need to look closer, or do not have a need for such a program as this one. I am the owner of multiple forums and find this program to be extremely useful in just the few minutes I have been using it. Instead of typing in each of the forums I own, or those I frequent, I can simply see them all quick and easy and pick the ones I have to work on that day, loading up the forum in a built in viewing window in the program rather than have a separate browser open - which I know from experience leads to temptation in wanting to surf the Internet and not get your work all done.

I have loaded up and tested two of my forums so far, both for being able to see them and for being able to delete unwanted posts and post my own posts, and everything seems to be working really smoothly. I am very impressed with this program and will be recommending it on my Techno Dragon computers blog in the days ahead as I get more of a chance to play with it and test it out.

Thank you for this program! Thumbs way up and 8/10 stars!

I downloaded this to try out with Yahoo Groups. Unfortunately, many Yahoo Group owners do not add RSS feeds to their groups, so if I want to keep up with new posts its tough to do on a realtime basis. The digests are just too late for some things and individual email notifications just fill my email with lots of irrelevent stuff.

Use Yahoo Pipes and build your own RSS feed by scraping it. They're really easy to set up.

What I want is a reader that will handle web forums like a newsgroup.

Haven't tried this but from the comments, doubt it will do anything like that.

I use my browser to view forums. I have no need for a software which informs me about new posts without letting me to post.
This program is not worth the money. Just use your browser to check your favorite forums for free (with ability to post).
I'll pass today.

Belong to many, way to many hobby groups and use Grouply,
which is nice in that it lists all the groups with activity and topics of the posts, so I can quickly see subjects that I want to read. Direct links to group and topic

http://www.grouply.com/

Works well with Yahoogroups, but there is a time delay -- will get yesterday's postings today.
Also, there are ads in the summary email but this hasn't spammed me.
Because grouply has your yahoo id and password, some groups have disallowed.

Quote from grouply:
>>"All your Yahoo and Google Groups in one place!
Can't keep up with the daily flood of messages from your groups?
Stay current in 80% less time with the Grouply Smart DigestTM, a daily personalized email summarizing all your groups.
Tired of going to multiple websites to manage all your groups?
View a single, cross-group event calendar. Quickly search message archives across all groups.
Want to find people who like what you like?
Discover new friends who share your interests. Find out what's popular and who's reading what.
Grouply is free and takes just seconds to join!
If you're not completely satisfied, immediately go back to accessing your groups via Yahoo and Google. "

Hoping Web Reader will handly the dozens of forums I go to as well.

Another example, of another software publisher, looking to get a free ride on GOTD.

Today's offering is crap. It's poorly thought out, badly executed, and doesn't do anything that many a free browser already does.

Although I'm a loyal fan of GOTD, I have to say it's a shame that the number of software offerings on this site that are not worthy of acquisition -- free or paid-for -- seems to be increasing all the time.

That's unfortunate for GOTD users (though hey, they can get over it: in the UK at least there are real, quality freebies from magazines like PC PRO and others) but it's certainly not good for GOTD.

Sad, really.

Got it. Tried it. Hated it. Have several forums I use. Tried to get the hierarchy to work for me, but it doesn't. Crashed computer several times.

I've already spent at least 3 hours with this, and I needed those 3 hours. I can see where it might save time but I'm either not smart enough, not focused enough, or it just doesn't work the way I need it to.

There are definitely two versions on their Web site, one of them being a free Lite version. The setup executables weigh in at (in Bytes) 1556753 and 2545705; the GOTD setup is 1686827. While the difference between the Lite and GOTD exe files is minor, the latter is certainly not the $29.95 version. While I don't perceive anything nefarious here, GOTD needs to clear up this confusion. BTW, unlike other developers who offer a "compare" for their full and free versions, I cannot find anything like that at ChemTable.

The digests are just too late for some things and individual email notifications just fill my email with lots of irrelevent stuff.

For sites with RSS feeds I use Snarfer and am very happy with it.

At first glance, Web Forum Reader seems to work OK for Yahoo Groups (even with authentication required). I did notice that it seems to have a problem when setting up the group. When you first try syncing after adding the resource the authentication window hangs. I found, however, that if the window is closed, then after a wait of several minutes it will eventually successfully sync.

May be useful for forum with no feeds.

This isn't very useful. The main problem is that you can't select only certain sub-forums to keep up to date. This is really annoying when you're not interested in every thing posted on the forum.

Those complaining about RSS feeds and the like have no idea what they are talking about when it comes to use of this program. The program does not help you brush your teeth either.

They are an awful lot of people that have commented in this forum today they are basing their comments on other posts. Neither of which have any idea what there talking about because they have never tried the program. These comments are rolling snowball of ignorant post.

Background: I have been using this program for several hours. I visit forums several times each day. Each form that I visit uses a different format.

This program has done an excellent job for me. I do not find any feature to quibble over. It is a program that I have been using and will use.

I am astounded by the number of complaints about issues and have not bother me at all.

I looked at this product a few months back.. This is the free one. I downloaded it back then and the thing crashed time and time again. I could never get it to work and I've been working with software and computers for years. The pro one only has a few minor fixes but I never even tried it. They are trying to pull a fast one here. You can also tell by the size of the download on the free version and the pro and compare it to the one being offered here. Someone got one over on giveawayoftheday.

It doesn't seem to work with secure forums that require an .htaccess login.

It completely screws /hide and other forum hacks.

Encrypted forums are impossible since there's no place to add the key files.

Uninstalling leaves a little garbage in the registry (insignificant).

This is complete trash. It's almost like somebody decided to write a modern browser, gave up half way through, and released the work in progress as something else.

As to Firefox Live Bookmarks, there are (at least) two online tutorials worth reading:

(especially useful the paragraph "How to get the orange icon on your site")

Anyone know if this works for Yahoo! Groups or MSN Groups? Guess it doesn't matter since I get those updates in my email anyway. Think I will pass this one up not because of anything bad (though several comments of crashing don't help it score positive points), just have my wife coming home from the hospital today and have other more important things to do. Thanks anyway GAOTD.

I thought it would extract the data from the website so it would be more like reading newsgroups through an app. Not so.
